Once again Summit Artspace is looking for artists to participate in its Akron in Plein Air Competition that will be held July 26th through July 28th. Selected works will be part of the Streetscapes 2013: Akron in Plein Air Exhibit that opens August 2nd. There will be awards presented at an award reception on August 9th. Akron Area Arts Alliance Has Opportunity

The Akron Area Arts Alliance is seeking a designer with tremendous creative vision and an independent spirit who is interested in bartering design services for office/studio space at Summit Artspace. We have creative business space complete with wireless internet, meeting rooms for clients, copy, fax services and a kitchen. Great company, too!

We are interested in seeing if we can make a match between a great designer who is interested in being in the BEST creative space in downtown Akron in exchange for design services primarily for exhibition announcements, assistance with our web site and a few select additional design projects per year. These could range from signage to an on-line annual report.

The Ohio Collage Society is looking for artists to participate in their 16th Annual Postcard Collage Exhibit. The show will run June 19th through July 20th at the Downtown Gallery at Kent State University. The deadline for entries is August 19th and it is for members of the National Collage Society. The Untold Story of The Three Little Pigs
In this highly interactive production by Alyn Cardarelli, the audience joins club reporter Random Adjective in using reporting skilss, and the 5 W’s and 1 H of story telling, to uncover the truth. Through interviews with witnesses and recreation of events several stories emerge. The “true” story of The Three Little Pigs is then selected by the audience at each performance. This production is available November 2013 through February 2014.

The Lincoln Project
Developed by Miranda Garrard and Stephen Farkas, history will come alive when President Abraham Lincoln comes to your school. Up close and personal, students will see and interact with the man behind the legend. In celebration of the sesquicentennial of the Gettysburg Address, Lincoln will speak those historic and moving words. Available February 2014 only!

The Emperor’s New Clothes
“The Emperor’s New Clothes,” by Dennis McCarthy is a re-telling of the classic tale about two tricksters who convince a monarch that they have woven him the world’s finest suit of clothes, which, of course, is invisible. The production is available March through June 2014.

Akron Art Prize Call to Artists

Downtown Akron Partnership (DAP) is now accepting applications for the second annual Akron Art Prize sponsored by the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation (MCMF). Applications will be accepted through Friday, July 5 at 5 p.m. EST.

The competition will kickoff Saturday, September 7 with the finale taking place Saturday, October 5, 2013 in the grand lobby of the Akron Art Museum. The winners of the competition will be announced at the finale with the first place winner receiving $5,000 and the honor of displaying their winning piece in the Art Museum for the week following the competition. There will be five $1,000 runners up prizes awarded at the finale as well.

Peninsula’s 5th Annual Plein Air Competition Seeking Artists

This plein air event, 5th Annual Plein Air Competition-Along the Crooked River: 100 Years Later, will take place in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Village of Peninsula, Friday through Sunday, June 7-9. Artwork must be created on site in the true impromptu plein air style and is open to artists 18 and older. There is no limit on the number of pieces of artwork produced during the competition, however, only two pieces may be submitted for judging. Prizes will be awarded and artwork created during the competition will be on display at the Peninsula Art Academy from Saturday, June 29th through August 10th. “Brushstrokes: Then & Now” Women’s Art League 80th Anniversary Show April 26-June 1

The Women’s Art League has put together a show of its members that will open on Friday, April 26th at Summit Artspace with a opening reception from 5 pm until 8 pm. The show celebrates the 80th anniversary of the group and titled Brushstrokes: Then and Now. During the opening reception there will be a sale to benefit their scholarship fund. In addition to being on view during the Downtown Artwalks on May 4th and June 1st, there will be four free workshops and they are listed below.

4th Annual Summit For Kids Call for Participants

Planning has begun for the 4^th Annual Summit for Kids!! The event will be held Saturday, August 17, 10am-4pm at the John S. Knight Center. Last year’s event drew a record crowd of more than 18,000 parents and children … and this year the attendance is expected to exceed 20,000!

The Akron Area Arts Alliance has participated in this event in the past and plans to continue. The price has remained the same and they have expanded the Main Exhibit Hall to accomodate more exhibitors. Please consider being involved in this great event.
