A garage door is the largest moving object in the home. An improperly adjusted garage door opener can exert deadly force when the door closes; which could lead to an entrapment of children or adults and subsequent injury or death . I experienced the injury side of this myself. Our house was built in 1959 and we had two old wooden doors that were hard to get up and down as it was. They were basically falling apart. I remember we had a string attached to the handle outside to pull it down. Anyways, my six year old daughter at that time decided that since I was out there doing something she would put on her roller skates and skate in the garage. So, as she is skating along she begins to fall and grabs a hold of one of the arm joints that bend when the door is open . The garage door begins to fall on her as I run to try to stop the door from crushing her leg. She fell backwards out of the garage and I slowed the fall from the inside. The door hit her in the shin and broke it. What a nightmare as I imagined how much worse it could have been. She could have crushed her fingers in that joint or worse. We took her to the ER and she got a cast and did fine. She of course is 15 now but neither one of us will be quick to forget that day. I myself just never though about the safety hazards and why its important to maintain the doors and replace them if needed until that moment. So, Tip #1 Teach Your Children About Garage Door Safety!!! Do not allow children to play or hang on your garage door. It is dangerous and can result in injury or death. Do not let children play with or use remote controls. You should always keep remote controls out of their reach. Next week I will give you tip #2.

We had a gentleman call because he had a problem with his garage doors not working. It was mid December; we were booked solid and couldn't get to him that day. Rather than tell the customer we would have to schedule an appointment another day our Tech, Derrick Pulley, helped him over the phone. The customer was so thankful he took time out of his busy day to stop by our office to thank him personally and leave him twenty dollars. So, it truly does pay to go the extra mile. Whether you receive anything or not you will still feel fulfilled in helping someone in need.

The garage door is the largest moving object in a home. An improperly adjusted garage door opener can exert strong and deadly forces and might not reverse the garage door in an emergency. The garage door counterbalance springs should be properly adjusted in order for the safety reverse system to function properly. Thus, proper installation and maintenance are extremely important in order for the garage door and garage door opener to operate smoothly and safely.
The header bracket, which attaches the front end of the opener track to the header wall, must be securely attached to the structural members of the garage wall. If not, the opener might not reverse the garage door in an emergency. The rail can also pull away from the wall.
All garage door openers manufactured and installed in the United States since 1982 are required to provide a quick-release mechanism on the trolley that allows for the garage door to be disconnected from the garage door opener in the event of entrapment. The quick-release handle should be mounted no higher than six feet from the ground. Homeowners should be familiar with this mechanism, because garage door springs can relax over time, and pulling the release could lead to a free-falling door.Garage door openers manufactured since 1982 are also required to reverse the garage door if it strikes a solid object.
The wall console/push button should be mounted at least five feet from the floor and the remote controls should be kept out of the hands of children. Children should never be allowed to play with or use the garage door opener remotes or wall pushbuttons. Homeowners should also keep a moving door in sight until it fully opens or closes.
Under U.S. federal law (UL 325), garage door openers manufactured for the U.S. since 1993 must include a safety reversing system, such as photoelectric eyes mounted no higher than six inches above the ground, with a light beam spanning the door opening. The garage door opener is required to reverse the door to the open position if the beam is broken. Other examples of safety reversing systems, allowed within the guideline of UL 325, include electric safety edges, which reverse with approximately 15 pounds of downward pressure, and a garage door and opener system without photo eyes, tested together, which reverses upon approximately 15 pounds of pressure.

We carry different size extension springs, and if we don't have it we can get it. (Torsion springs we cannot sell for liability reasons, but we do have them and can install for you). Also, for the garage door we have weather seal for the bottom or for the perimeter. We can even get you panels for most garage door's depending on the age and style of the door. We have hardware such as handles, locks, hinges, rollers, operator brackets the list goes on and on. For the garage door opener we sell, gear and sprocket sets, limit switches, trolley assembly's,motor capacitor, logic boards and anything else that can be replaced. Cold weather is here!!!!

I know we have been over this before but wanted to re-post as a reminder. I do know alot of people go into there garages for whatever reason, some have washers and dryers, some have games to play out there and some just to gaze out the windows and see what is going on outside but still from the comfort of a closed door. Whatever the reason that we spend time in our garages it is pretty nice when there is no cold or chilly weather blowing from under the door or from around the sides or top. Before it gets to cold be sure and check the bottom weather stripping to check for chinks, tears or missing pieces. Also if there is air coming in from around the sides or top we have the perimeter seal, that comes in several colors to match your trim or door. When it gets cold is a good time to grease and lubricate your rollers, door track as well as your opener track, if you don't have the correct lubricants we do have our maintenance pack that comes with the spray lube and tube of grease as well as the wax stick and instructions on what to lube and grease. You can also give us a call and we can make an appointment to come out and do a yearly maintenance on your garage door and opener, our technician will inspect your springs, cables, rollers, track's and your opener, it's also a great time to check your remotes and keypad batteries, in our showroom we do have batteries available for you. If you really want it warmer you can even add insulation to your door to make it more climate controlled as well as a stronger door.

Product Installation. Products shall be installed in accordance with the specific installation instructions provided by the product manufacturer.

Safety Compliance. Dealers shall provide a safe working environment for employees and shall comply with applicable safety regulations. In addition, dealers shall inform customers regarding safety features of products and safety precautions to be taken in the operation and maintenance of a door system.

Contracts. All contracts, verbal and written, shall be free of ambiguities or omissions that may obscure or confuse either party's obligations.

Consultation Services. A door & access systems dealer's professional knowledge is a valuable result of their training and experience, and when called upon for service or for technical advice, it is proper that they be paid for rendering these services. If applicable, such charges should be acknowledged by the dealer prior to providing the service or technical advice.

Negotiated Agreements. The code recognizes the important role of contract negotiation in which a single door & access systems dealer is selected on merit, followed by the development of required construction details and costs. Negotiated agreements should be in writing for the protection of the dealer and dealers customers.

Bid Procedures. When the sealed bid process is utilized, the following should apply : Dealers should not seek to obtain price information concerning a competitor's bid or proposal before all bids are submitted.

Proposal Compliance. Proposals and product installation shall comply with all applicable building codes, ordinances, regulations and laws.
