2012

"We were warned."

Nobody does mass destruction like Roland Emmerich. The ID4/DAY AFTER TOMORROW/STARGATE-helmer just knows how to deliver those crumbling civilization goods, and 2012 is shaping up to be his end-of-the-world piece de resistance.

Here's what's going to happen: on December 21, 2012, the world will end. No doubt about it. And since Oliver Stone won't be here after the fact to profit from the apocalypse, Roland Emmerich's beating the apocalypse to the punch by offering up this explosive treat of things to come.

The significance of 12/21/2012 was first brought to our attention by the ancient Mayans who tipped us off by having their "Long Count" calendar end on what translates to the Western Gregorian date of December 21, 2012. The Mayans were incredibly intelligent in math and sciences, but when it came to the gentle let-down, they were all thumbs. But it's not just the ancient Mayans who thought this was our expiration date- modern, more alive scientists have thrown their smoldering hat into the ring with apocalyptic theories ranging as widely as geomagnetic reversal to galactic alignment to good ol' fashioned self-fulfilling prophecy.

This movie is going to RULE! John Cusack, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, Danny Glover & The End Of Times star in a must-see laundry list of all the things we shouldn't wait to fear. Start building the bunker now.

Disney's A CHRISTMAS CAROL in Digital 3D!

Charles Dickens' timeless tale of an old miser who must face Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet-to-Come, as they help to bring kindness to his otherwise cold heart. The Ghosts remind him of the man he used to be, the hard truth of what the world is today, and what will happen if he does not strive to be a better man. Set around Christmas, the most joyous day of the year, Scrooge realizes the sharp contrast of his own personality.

Jim Carrey plays four separate roles in this updated version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Carrey portrays Scrooge, as well as the three ghosts (Past, Present, and Yet-to-Come). His dynamic character roles keep the four characters as diverse as being played by four actors.

Double Feature: TWILIGHT + NEW MOON!

Special Double Feature!

Before the midnight premiere of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: THE NEW MOON, we're going to revisit the 2008 sensation one last time on the giant Alamo screen!

TWILIGHT (2008)
Bella (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different. When her mother remarried and sent her to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, WA, she didn't expect much to be different. But things change when she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). He's nothing like anyone she's ever met...intelligent and witty, and he seems to see straight into her soul. In no time at all, they are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance - because Edward really isn't like the other boys. He can run faster than a mountain lion. He can stop a moving car with his bare hands. Oh, and he hasn't aged since 1918.

Based on the #1 New York Times Bestselling series by Stephenie Meyer, TWILIGHT has become a cultural phenomenon. Critically acclaimed director Hardwicke brings to life this modern, visual and visceral Romeo and Juliet story of the ultimate forbidden love affair - between vampire and mortal.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON
The saga continues...

Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested.

Tickets for the double feature are just $14.00 to see your two favorite vampire movies.

Free Kung Fu Theatre: RUMBLE IN THE BRONX

Most people may not realize this, but RUMBLE IN THE BRONX helped turned Jackie Chan into one of the greatest cinematic legends of all time. When he released this U.S.-set action flick in Hong Kong in 1995, he was already the biggest movie star in the world and had little use for U.S. stardom prefering to stay at home to make the movies he wanted to make. But thanks to the bootleg video market his films were gaining notice with U.S. audiences and New Line Cinema, sensing an opportunity, bought RUMBLE with plans for a U.S. release to re-introduce Jackie to American audiences, marking the first time in nearly 20 years that a Hong Kong film was released by a major studio in this country. Much to the surprise of many, RUMBLE was a surprise hit, not only bringing Jackie back to the U.S. but doing so on his terms, helping to make him the legend he is today. The film itself is a lot of fun, and it's especially remarkable when you consider that Jackie experienced one of his worst injuries on this one, breaking his foot during the Hovercraft chase, which led him to finish the film wearing a shoe-painted sock over the cast on his feet!
ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
SEE OUR ROCKY HORROR SIGNATURE PAGE, WITH DETAILS ABOUT THE LIVE CAST!

ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
D. Richard O'Brien 1975 100 min. Rated R for polymorphous perversity

All-American couple Brad Majors (Barry Bostwick) and fianceé Janet Weiss (Susan Sarandon) decide to visit their old professor. Unfortunately, their car breaks down outside a sinister house, and they are forced to stay the night. Inside the house Brad and Janet find a world filled with subversive sexuality.

The film itself is filled with great tunes and a slightly loopy plot. So it's just like your common-or-garden musical in that way. Where the film really takes off is in its subversion of sexual mores as Brad and Janet break free from their normality.

Richard O'Brien created "The Rocky Horror Show" for the London stage, and in addition to writing duties also shows up as butler Riff Raff. But the film belongs to Tim Curry as cross-dressing scientist Frank N Furter.

And if you've seen it so many times that you're tired of singing along, you can gain new thrills by seeing it at the cinema and entering the world of audience participation. Dress up! Shout at the screen and enter conversations with the characters in the film! Many claim that audience participation is the essence of the Rocky Horror experience, and the film itself merely an excuse for this mayhem.

Will it appeal to everyone? Certainly not. But for those willing to experiment with something a little bit different, a little bit outré, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" has a lot to offer.

Prop bags will be available from the cast for $3 a bag or $5 for two. Prop bags contain:
newspaper, glowstick, rubber glove, noisemakers, toilet paper, party hat, cards, and condom

THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS

In a comedic look at real life events that are almost too bizarre to believe, a reporter discovers a top-secret wing of the U.S. military when he accompanies an enigmatic Special Forces operator on a mind-boggling mission.

Reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) is in search of his next big story when he encounters Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), a shadowy figure who claims to be part of an experimental U.S. military unit. According to Cassady, the New Earth Army is changing the way wars are fought. A legion of "Warrior Monks" with unparalleled psychic powers can read the enemy's thoughts, pass through solid walls, and even kill a goat simply by staring at it. Now, the program's founder, Bill Django (Jeff Bridges), has gone missing and Cassady's mission is to find him.

Intrigued by his new acquaintance's far-fetched stories, Bob impulsively decides to tag along. When the pair tracks Django to a clandestine training camp run by renegade psychic Larry Hooper (Kevin Spacey), the reporter is trapped in the middle of a grudge match between the forces of Django's New Earth Army and Hooper's personal militia of super soldiers. In order to survive this wild adventure, Bob will have to outwit an enemy he never thought possible.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

Young, mischievous Max is sent to bed without his supper. When his bedroom turns into a magical jungle landscape filled with strange creatures, he embarks on a wild imaginary (?) adventure.

We've been waiting for the wild rumpus to start on this one since forever. We're not sure what makes us want to see this more: our nostalgic affection for writer/illustrator Maurice Sendak's nightmarish creatures or Jonze's twisted take on his illustrated, ten-sentence classic. Either way, this looks like the Movie of the Year for smart kids and/or adults who still remember what matters.
