SAF was able to use a shop in Touchwood, Solihull for a week in July where different members of the Society were able to display their work on different days. It was great fun and we received a lot of interest. We found the location perfect with an incredible amount of footfall.

What is the Solihull Artists Forum?

Solihull Artists Forum (SAF) is a dynamic organization of professional visual and contemporary craft based artists who work to raise the profile of arts in the Solihull area.

ASF was initially set up in 2001 to consult and work with Solihull MCB when the Borough was engaged in putting together an arts strategy. It provides both networking and professional development opportunities with a support framework for artists and craftspeople who earn all or part of their income within the creative industry. It seeks to improve exhibition and business opportunities for it’s members.

SAF also benefits from the support offered by Solihull Council’s Arts team through regular meetings at the Arts Complex and the provision of exhibition opportunities in the main gallery along with the circulation of regular information about opportunities for local artists.

I have been a member of SAF for a year now and have already attended an exhibition at Preston Baggot selling a number of paintings.

Art in the garden

I am hoping to have another ‘Art in the Garden’ event this year. As last year, I opened my garden and displayed paintings throughout. I may hold it in October – so watch this space. Lets hope the weather is kinder this year.

I continue to paint the Engilsh garden in all it’s Glory. For me, great subjects are Hidcote Gardens In Gloucestershire, Packwood house and many of The National Trust’s beautiful gardens.

Venice has always held a special place for me, so naturally I have to paint it. I have currently just finished a painting of a typical hot, brightly-coloured backwater in a quiet Venice ‘street’. The houses exude a vibrancy and brilliance matched only by the dazzling

reflections in the water.

I am currently working on a series of acrylic paintings depicting the English seaside. The joy

of delving into rock pools, getting splashed by the surf, riding the pedalos, lazing in a deckchair.

Art Trail dates get closer

On Saturday 25^th and Sunday 26^th September I will be involved in the Art Trail as part of an event organized by the Solihull Artists Forum.

People will be able to visit 19 local artists studios in and around the Solihull area. Visitors can see artists at work and have the opportunity to purchase work, which covers oils, acrylic and water colour painting, sculpture, ceramics, glasswork etc.
