People Power Puts Grayson on the Ballot

It takes
around $10,000 to get your name on the Congressional ballot. Or 4000
voters willing to sign your petition.

Our Grayson for Congress campaign raised
over $800,000 last quarter, from almost 25,000 contributors. That
was #1 among all 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. If
you do that math, you'll see that we raised almost as much as the
$10,000 qualifying fee, each and every day, for ninety days straight.

Or actually, 180 days straight, since we
raised just as much money during the previous quarter.

So we could have stroked that $10,000
check to get on the ballot, like our opponents will. But we decided to
do it the hard way. We got 4000 voters to sign our petitions.

Then 5000.

Then 6000.

Then 7000.

We decided to stop at 7017.

(But in 2008,
we kept going, all the way past 8000!)

That's People Power.

	So while our
opponents squabble among themselves as to who will have the right to
lose in November, we are organizing, organizing, organizing, reaching
out all across Central Florida. We are galvanizing support among all
those people who are proud to help a Congressman who pays attention,
works hard, and gets things done.

When you see the name "Alan Grayson" on the ballot in
November, you'll know that it wasn't money that put that name there.
It was people. The People.

Rep. Grayson Has Huge Lead in Republican Primary

No, that's
not a typo. According to a poll of registered Republicans last week,
Congressman Alan Grayson has an enormous lead in the Republican primary
for Florida Congressional District 8 (FL-8).

Of course, Grayson is a Democrat. Yet
Grayson is far and away the leading choice among registered
Republicans in FL-8. In fact, he has almost twice as much
support among Republicans as all his Republican opponents combined.

In the poll, Grayson won the support
of 27.8% of registered Republicans. None of Grayson's 13
opponents scored higher than 3.7%. Their combined performance was
only 14.5%. The remaining 57.7% of registered Republicans were
undecided.

	30.1% of
registered Republican women support Grayson. And Grayson has the
support of 25.5% of registered Republican men.

Grayson also has an enormous lead in
name recognition. 76.9% of Republicans know Grayson; none of
his opponents scored higher than 15.1%. 81.4% of Republican men know
Grayson, and 72.4% of Republican women know him.

	Grayson received high marks from
Republicans for his Constitution initiative. Over half of all
Republicans said that they were more likely to vote for Grayson
because he passed a resolution urging high schools to teach the
Constitution, and he had distributed tens of thousands of copies of the
Constitution throughout the district.

	Interestingly, Grayson is more popular
among Republicans than Republican Governor Charlie Crist is. 42% of
Republicans have an unfavorable opinion of Crist, far more than those
who have an unfavorable opinion of Grayson.

	Asked to comment, Congressman Grayson
said, "it's like I've been saying: People like a Congressman with guts.
They want someone who works hard, pays attention, and gets things
done. For goodness sake, we increased federal competitive grants in
this district by 98% in our first year. That extra $100 million
benefits Republicans, Independents and Democrats equally. People of
every political persuasion want to see action to help solve their
problems, and that's what they're seeing from us."

When asked if he might run in the
Republican primary, Grayson said, "as this poll shows, if I did, then I
would win."

The poll was conducted on Feb. 26th.
There were 324 respondents, all registered Republicans in FL-8. The
margin of error was 5%. The poll was conducted by Middleton Market
Research.

Today, on Page B4, the Orlando Sentinel
wrote that "no one has come onto the scene more gangbusters than
Orlando's freshman congressman," Alan Grayson. What a year! Here are
some of the things that we have accomplished, for Central Florida and
for America:

	(1) Increasing Congressionally directed spending here by over 500% in
just one year (a year when we needed it the most), and redirecting that
spending away from favors from lobbyists, and toward meeting human
	needs.

	(2) Attacking the housing crisis by getting our local judges to
institute a mediation program to prevent foreclosures, a program that
the Supreme Court of Florida just expanded throughout the state.

	(3) Overcoming years of delay and procedural impediments to pass the
Travel Promotion Act, establishing a fully-funded federal commission
that will spend $200 million a year promoting our #1 industry, tourism.

	(4) Supporting and voting for a bill that delivered over $200 million
in more federal money to Orange County schools, keeping many of them
from closing, and an additional $80 million for schools in Lake and
	Marion Counties.

	(5) Winning a commitment from both the House Leadership and the White
House to erect a $50 million National Hurricane Research Center in
Orlando as part of the climate change bill, the first new federal
facility in the district within memory.

		(6) Arranging for funding and progress in the cleanup at the Pinecastle Jeep Range, to help keep our children safe.

	(7) Establishing weekly office hours in Ocala, Tavares and Winter
Garden, to meet the needs of people throughout our 140-mile-long
district, and responding individually to almost 100,000 e-mails sent to
	our official website, grayson.house.gov.

Nationally, we have made a huge splash; by mid-October, there were over
11 million web pages discussing Congressman Grayson and his impact on
national issues:

	(1) On health care reform, Grayson took the initiative away from the
bean-counters and the naysayers, and put it squarely where it belonged:
saving lives. Over 10,000 news articles reported on Grayson's
publicizing of a Harvard study showing that 44,789 Americans die each
year for lack of health care, and Grayson's plea to do something about
	it.

	(2) Grayson conducted a series of Congressional hearings exposing the
utter absence of accountability at the Federal Reserve. An online video
of one of those hearings has become the most-watched Congressional
hearing in history, with over 3 million views. Another was the second
most-watched news video of any kind, during the week that it posted.

	(3) Grayson used these hearings to galvanize support for a 26-year-old
bill by Republican Ron Paul to audit the Federal Reserve. The bill had
never before had a hearing, and had never come up for a vote. This
year, Grayson signed up over 130 Democratic co-sponsors for the bill,
joining over 170 Republicans. The Paul-Grayson Amendment to audit the
Federal Reserve then passed the House, becoming virtually the only
substantive measure to earn bipartisan support this year.

	(4) Grayson has continued his fight against war profiteers by
introducing and advancing legislation to make federal contractors pay
for some of their own cost overruns, and requiring the Government to
pay more attention to cost when awarding contracts. Grayson also added
"legislative history" to a bill to prevent any contractor that submits
a false record to the Government from ever receiving another contract -
the "corporate death penalty" for crooked contractors.

	(5) Grayson has become the scourge of Wall Street bankers. He became
the first freshman to pass a bill - a bill to crack down on unearned
bonuses that failed Wall Street banks were paying to themselves with
taxpayer money. He revealed that the Federal Reserve has handed out
$500,000,000,000 to foreign banks. He exposed the fact that the
Government has been paying millions of dollars in attorneys' fees to
defend bankers who cheated the Government. And he has voted against
	each and every bailout.

	(6) Grayson has stood up for our Constitution, by writing and passing a
House Resolution urging all schools to spend one week teaching the
Constitution to high school seniors each September, and by
disseminating tens of thousands of copies throughout the district. And
Grayson has not hesitated to apply Constitutional principles to current
affairs; as he said on national TV last month, "the Constitution didn't
contemplate a standing army, much less an army standing in Kabul."

	This is what the Sentinel
means today when it says that "no one has come onto the scene more
gangbusters than" Alan Grayson. As a Republican remarked in today's
newspaper article, Grayson "has got the pulpit to get things done in
D.C." Action, not talk. Congressman Alan Grayson - 2009 Rookie of the
Year.

Over 150,000 People Have Seen It. Have You?

It's
been up on YouTube for only five days, and already, over 150,000 people
have watched it. What is it? Congressman Alan Grayson's grilling of the
Inspector General of the Federal Reserve Bank. You can see it by clicking here.

In
just five minutes, Congressman Grayson exposes the fact that the
Inspector General knows nothing about the $1,000,000,000,000 (one
trillion dollars!) that the Federal Reserve has disbursed since last
September, or the $9,000,000,000,000 in guarantees that the Fed has
handed out to its favorite banks since then - and, she doesn't really
care. See for yourself.

As the Huffington Post reported,
the Fed's Inspector General "could not tell Grayson what kind of losses
the Fed has suffered on its $2 trillion portfolio, which has greatly
expanded since September. She appeared unaware that the Fed engages in
trillions of dollars in off-balance-sheet exchanges. She is not
investigating the role of the Fed in allowing the collapse of Lehman
Brothers. She did not know where the Fed has invested its $2 trillion."

Back in January, Congressman Grayson asked the Fed's Vice Chairman who had received all that money from the Fed. The Vice Chairman wouldn't say. Now it turns out that he hasn't even told the Inspector General.

That
January exchange between Grayson and the Fed drew 60,000 views on
YouTube in three days. According to the Washington Post, it made
Congressman Grayson an "internet celebrity." But this new video on
YouTube has gone beyond that, with 150,000 viewers and counting. The
day after it was posted, it was the third most-viewed news video on all
of YouTube. It has drawn over 1000 online comments, at YouTube, the
Huffington Post and elsewhere. On Monday, CNBC told viewers to go to
YouTube and "check it out."

And
this is one hearing that will make a difference. For years, Congressman
Ron Paul's bill to audit the Federal Reserve Bank (H.R. 1207) has
languished. The bill didn't have a single Democratic co-sponsor until
Congressman Grayson announced his support. Now Alan is using this
hearing to build bipartisan support for the bill.

Listen to these online comments:

"Rep. Alan Grayson is a REAL leader."

"I'm loving this guy! Keep up the great work, Rep. Grayson."

"Way to go, Grayson! Make them squirm!"

"Alan Grayson is really cool. He asks real questions."

"Very well done, Rep. Grayson. Excellent questions, very simple and succinct."

"Rep. Grayson! Way to keep the heat on that lying thief."

"Thank you, Rep. Grayson. Keep up the good work! I am now a supporter."

"Grayson is terrific in these hearings. Always reasonable, important
questions, always well-prepared, always demands answers. What a great
	legislator!"

As
the National Journal said in its profile of Congressman Alan Grayson,
Alan is a "watchdog to be watched." Alan is the first new member of the
House of Representatives to pass a bill this year - an important bill
cracking down on undeserved bonuses at failed, Government-owned banks.
In hearing after hearing, Alan has asked the hard questions that you
would ask if you were there.

Alan has accomplished more in his
first four months than his predecessor did in four terms. Alan has used
his position on the House Financial Services Committee just as he said
he would -- to protect the taxpayers. To protect us. Go, Alan!

Congressman Alan Grayson on the CBS Evening News

Wednesday night, our Congressman, Alan Grayson, appeared on the CBS Evening News. You can see the CBS news report, called "The Impossible-to-Track Bank Bailout," here:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/01/28/eveningnews/main4761089.shtml

CBS
reported on Grayson's close questioning of the Federal Reserve at a
hearing on Capitol Hill last week. The questioning revealed that "the
Fed" has disbursed $1.2 TRILLION since September. As Grayson pointed
out, that's $4000 for every man, woman and child in America. And the
Fed wouldn't tell Grayson who got the money! Or what the Fed received
in return.

Grayson's incisive questioning is already a cult classic on the Internet. It was posted immediately on YouTube, and 60,000 people have seen it. In fact, it was one of the 100 most viewed videos on YouTube last week. See it yourself:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj0JAfq4esk

Here are some of the reactions:

"Thanks, Congressman Grayson! Keep up the good work. Don't let them get away with this chicanery."

"I wish there were more men like Congressman Alan Grayson."

"I like this guy Grayson. He seems very intelligent."

"Bravo, Rep. Grayson. Hold their feet to the fire."

"Way
to go, Alan Grayson! That is exactly the type of attitude every member
of Congress should have when it comes to this stuff."

"Note to Grayson: take them to task and prevent them from looting our pockets, and we - the people - won't forget it."

	"Congressman
Grayson, thank you for grilling him for answers. He's dead wrong.
Americans do want to know. In fact, we want the names of everyone who
got our tax money. There is too much corruption in our government and
it has to stop! There is no accountability in DC, and we are FED UP!!
Demand answers and don't let them off the hook until you have a
complete accounting of where every penny was spent. It's time the
corrupt politicians go to prison, or to the gallows!"

"Thank you, Alan Grayson! Imagine, a Congressman fighting for us, the American taxpaying public. Once again, THANK YOU!"

In Grayson's first week in office, the New York Times quoted Grayson's stirring speech on the floor of the House, in support of children's health.

Now,
in his third week, Grayson's defense of the taxpayers has made the CBS
Evening News. And his vote yesterday for the recovery bill has brought
$120 million to Orange County schools.

That's the change we need. And that's the change we've got. Go, Alan!

Congressional Candidate Alan Grayson will walk with a dozen supporters on Saturday to Vote Early at the Orlando Public Library, 101 E Central Blvd. in Downtown Orlando.

Grayson, who is running to replace the incumbent in the U.S. House of Representatives, District 8, will participate in the Lake Eola Fall Festival. He will talk to voters and encourage them to vote with him on Saturday. The Grayson for Congress Team will be manning Booth #1176, both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"I am proud that so many people want to show their support in Early Voting for my campaign," Grayson said. "We have always said we want to work for the people to improve their lives by improving the economy, offering healthcare to everyone and ending the drain of the War in Iraq."

"There is no more important thing a supporter can do in this race than to Vote for Change," Grayson said. "Our team is excited by the support we have received for this election."

Grayson has reached out to constituents in his district, which includes Orange, Osceola, Lake and Marion counties, to listen to their concerns and respond with a platform that offers a better life for everyone. He wants to repair the economy, offer energy alternatives to drilling for oil off the Florida coast and provide healthcare for every man, woman and child in America. He is eager to start working on behalf of the people.

Voters can go participate in Early Voting from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday at various public libraries in District 8. They can turn in their absentee ballots to the Supervisor of Elections Office from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday and during business hours on Monday.
Keller's Term Limit Pledge

You may have heard that before he was elected, Ric Keller solemnly pledged "to the citizens of Florida" not to serve in Congress beyond the year 2008. But have you seen that pledge? Here it is:

When you're a Congressman, you may not be able to pass every bill you want. You may not be able to hold every hearing you want. But there is always one promise you can keep - the promise to leave. And that's the promise that Ric Keller is trying to break.

Note that motto at the bottom of the pledge: "Citizen Legislators. Not Career Politicians." But now Keller is a career politician.

He likes the $169,300 salary. He likes the gold-plated health coverage for him and his family. He likes the campaign contributions -- $211,000 of which he directed to his wife's "consulting firm."

And to keep those perks, he has unleashed one of the most vicious negative campaigns in Florida's history. Ric Keller has spent over $1 million on negative advertising, without running a single TV spot even attempting to explain why he deserves to remain in office.

Here we are, in the midst of the greatest economic crisis in 80 years. And all Ric Keller wants to do is talk about nonsense. It's a disgrace.

But you can do something about it. Take Ric's term limit pledge, and e-mail it to all of your friends and contacts. Republican, Democratic, whatever. And tell them what you think of Ric Keller.

It would cost us $200,000 to send each voter a copy of Ric Keller's term limit pledge. But by e-mail, you can do it for nothing. That's 21st Century campaigning.

Go for it. Send Ric Keller's term limit pledge to your e-mail contacts. And show Ric Keller that his term certainly is limited - by you, the voters.

FL-8: Already Red to Blue

Every 10 years, after the U.S. Census, the boundaries that determine who votes in which districts are redrawn. The last time this redistricting was done, in 2002, the Republicans, who were in control of the Florida legislature, gerrymandered the districts to favor their own candidates.

Thanks to these underhanded tactics, Florida's Eighth Congressional District now stretches all the way from Ocala to Celebration, encompassing parts of four counties. This was done to ensure that District 8 would remain solidly Republican until 2012 - but the Republicans didn't count on the overwhelming tide of change now sweeping the nation.

As of September 30, District 8 has 1,000 more registered Democrats than registered Republicans.

The people have spoken: District 8 is blue. Now all that's left is to be sure our voices are heard on Election Day. To do that, we need your help. Please encourage your friends, family and neighbors to vote, whether it's by absentee ballot, in early voting or on Election Day.

To avoid long lines and traffic problems on Election Day, early voting is your best bet. It starts Monday, October 20, and runs through Saturday, November 1. For information on locations and hours of operation, call your supervisor of elections office or go to the website.

Lake County: 352-343-9734, http://elections.lakecountyfl.gov

Marion County: 352-620-3290, http://www.votemarion.com/

Orange County: 407-836-2070, http://www.ocfelections.com/

We've won the registration race; now it's up to you to be sure we win on Election Day, too! The most important thing you can do now is help us turn out Democratic voters. Please remind your friends, family and neighbors to vote!

Grayson up by 7 points

A new poll shows that Congressional candidate Alan Grayson's lead over Ric Keller has grown to seven points. Two earlier polls gave Grayson a four-point lead. The current seven-point lead is well beyond the poll's margin of error.

Keller, however, is way ahead in one area: unfavorable ratings. The number of voters with an unfavorable opinion of Keller is more than twice as high as those with an unfavorable opinion of Grayson.

Remarkably, with only three weeks left in this campaign, Keller has yet to run a single TV ad attempting to make the case for Keller as to why he deserves to remain in office. Instead, Keller's ads are all "negative," all the time.

It's clear that Keller's convoluted and nasty personal attacks on Grayson already have failed. They have served only to increase Grayson's lead, and remind voters why they just don't like mean Ric Keller.

Orlando police officer Eddie Diaz was shot and paralyzed in the line of duty. When Diaz ran against Keller, Keller called Diaz a coward. Charlie Stuart's family has been prominent in Orlando public affairs for forty years. When Stuart ran against Keller, Keller branded Stuart a bankrupt tax cheat. And when Todd Long, a fellow Republican, asked Keller to honor Keller's term-limit pledge, and leave office this year, Keller called Long a drunk.

"The voters could not care less about Ric Keller's pink-hued fairy tales," said Grayson. "They've seen that kind of character assassination from him over and over again, and they're sick of it. They want a leader who will attack problems, not attack people."

Because Grayson for Congress is offering people solutions to our problems, we're winning. And on Nov. 4th, when Alan Grayson is elected to Congress, we all win.
