One of my favorite things about photographing people is that you get to hear and become part of everyone’s stories.  I get to learn about which grandma is fussing the most over baby and which Aunti just couldn’t wait to spoil her new niece or nephew. Even everything about how you are decorating baby’s new room!

Mom and Dad brought big sister to see me nearly 3 years ago and now here he is!!  Mom and I had him all to ourselves and he slept so peacefully during most of the session.  There’s nothing more tender than a sleeping baby,  and being so sleepy which allowed me to photograph him in a variety of poses and settings.  Each child is precious and special and no two portrait sessions are identical.  Your images are always as unique as your newborn.

Whitby Newborn Photographer | Perfect Balance

As a newborn photographer in Whitby I see a lot of newborns each year. Each arrive on their own time with their own unique story.  It’s one of the things I love about my job, hearing the stories, hearing what brought them here.  Well this little guy is no exception.  He arrived through the direct result of sheer determination, unconditional love and years of patience.

He is the most adorable ‘little’ guy, (why he’s only 17lbs at 10 weeks old), he makes THE  best expressions and if I dare say he blessed this family with a beautiful new dynamic balance.

Toronto Newborn Photographer | Baby number two

As a Toronto newborn photographer I love that I have such loyal clients.  It is so rewarding to see families come back again and again and this family is no exception.  I photographed their first little prince a few years back and just the other day he brought me his brand new baby brother .

What’s the advantage of using the same photographer time after time?  Not only is it like visiting family, there is a comfort in knowing what to expect, in knowing exactly what you’ll get, literally no risk at all.  Plus we were able to create  a complimentary image of newborn brother designed to be displayed with one we created of big brother 3 years earlier.

Toronto and Durham Region Family Photography | The Best of 2011

As a portrait studio in Toronto specializing in family photographs I am blessed to be invited into the lives of the families who commission me.  On New Years Day I wrote my clients to tell them all just how humbled and inspired and simply moved I am and have been throughout these past five years.  I never expected this side of owning my own business.

I read a post a few days ago written by a fellow portrait photographer. She featured a letter written to her by a client.  Her client lamented about how it took her developing a terminal illness to realize that her portraits were worth more than she ever imagined. She goes on to talk about regretting choosing to eat dinner at an upscale restaurant and getting her hair done and not having those images to leave as heirlooms for her children.  I was honestly moved by how openly she spoke about her regrets.

That made me think and I started looking through my portfolio.  My clients often cross over that professional boundary and share bits and pieces of their lives with me. I began noticing all the faces of all the children I have photographed whom we have lost of who have lost loved ones.  For some I know these are the last images with that particular loved one. Seeing this gave goose bumps. And right then I was sharply reminded of the very reason I started this. They are more than cliché heirlooms, and cute baby pictures, they are our legacy…they show we lived.

So it’s been a while in the making but finally here it is! The images that follow are a few of the best of 2011.
