Kids and King Salmon

What age is to young to come out on the boat and try for a big king Salmon? Fishing for Kings can be a lot of work so it depends on the person. We like to see family’s out on the water spending time together so all ages are welcome. Don’t hesitate to get a young person into fishing as early as possible.

The outdoors is a great place to spend quality time with your family.

This young man at the age of 11 caught two beautiful king salmon on the kasilof river a few days ago. The only help he had was getting the rod out of the rod holder and the rest was his.

A few other fish were hit and caught this day but I’ll remember the smile on his face more than I will the fish!

Drift boat king salmon fishing

Hope everyone had a great and safe 4th of July holiday! We were out on the river enjoying the sun and king salmon fishing. Fishing was good with some bigger fish showing up. The fish of the day was a big Kasilof river hen.

Plugs seem to still be working best in the tidal water. I’m running a 50lbs. leader that is about 5 foot long.

Kasilof river king salmon fishing

Today proved to be a little tougher on the river but persistence payed off! The goal was to get a couple of fish and on the last couple drifts we got them back to back.

This is Kristi’s first King salmon!

Good job girls, Mission accomplished!

Plugs seem to be working very well in tidal water right now.

Bristol Bay float trip

The fishing in Bristol Bay on the river that we fished for 6 days was great! Dry flies, Mouse patterns, and streamers all produced fish.

Here is a pitcure of one of the guys with a trophy sized Grayling taken on day 2 of the float.

Bristol Bay Trout Fishing

I leave tomorrow on a 7 day adventure in Bristol Bay for trophy rainbow trout and king salmon fishing. This is a personally designed trip for the HARD CORE, adventurous fisherman that wants to get the most out of there experience. We will be in state of the art tents, comfortable 18 ft. rafts and eating like kings. On this adventure we will be floating 72 miles of river, starting in the high country and ending up in dense, forested country. From the wildlife to the fish that haven’t seen a fly in a year or more, we expect to do very well on this trip. Grayling, rainbow trout, dolly varden, chum salmon, king salmon, barbut, and northern pike are all expected to be seen on this trip. There is lots of planning involved in a trip like this so if you are interested in putting a back country trip of a lifetime together in the bush of Alaska make your plans with our guide service early. We will only fish up to 6 people on two rafts on our back country trips to ensure a personal trip that you are never going to forget.

Big Bristol Bay rainbow trout often take mouse patterns viciously in the spring before the salmon show up. We plan to do very well on patterns such as this one!

Kasilof River King Salmon Fishing

King fishing has been pretty good. Lots of take downs, a few fish coming unbuttoned and plenty of fish landed. Water levels are in very good shape and it’s looking to be a great year for King Salmon fishing on the Kasilof River. King fishing is also picking up on the Kenai river too.

Here is one of the fish we boated on yesterdays adventure with our guide service. These bright King Salmon are hard hitting and make screaming runs.

Remember King Salmon season ends at the end of July so it is not to late to get your spot on our boat.

Kasilof River King Salmon Fishing

Every day has shown improvement and more and more fish are hitting the river. I believe that this coming week will be the best of the first run of Kings. We’ll just have to be out there and see what happens. Bait is still producing more fish that plugs for my boat. With the water level coming up more and more everyday I’ve switched to a larger set of hooks and am now running a longer leader for my eggs and spin and glows. Larger fish are starting to come into the river, we had one get off the hook today that may have reached 40-45 pounds?

The weather has been awesome, 65-80 degrees on the river this week thus far and not a cloud in the sky! We hope it continues?

Kasilof River King Salmon fishing

King fishing has been very good this week, Though we are having to work hard for the fish that we do catch.

Pay attention to what the tide is doing and you’ll be sure to find fish moving around. I’ve found that the outgoing tide has produced the best fishing this week.

Fishing has really picked up on the Kasilof River. An 18 inch leader with spin and glows have been working best for my boat.

Plugs are producing fish also. If you have good running plugs be sure to expect some great take downs!
