If you are visiting the Alaska in the fall and the weather is right for you Lingcod and halibut fishing can be very good. Be sure to dress for a colder days of fishing though. Be prepared for 25 - 50 degrees after mid sept.

Just because it’s getting a little cold doesn’t mean that there are not some great fishing opportunities on the kenai peninsula. We had a great day in late sept. and the best part was that we were the only boat out there!

SteelHead Fishing

Join Drifting on the Fly for some great steelhead fishing in Alaska on the Anchor river the first weekend in Oct. We have a great camp set up that has enough room for many tents in the same area. We are wanting to share camp with those that have fished with us, follow our blog and receive our newsletters. So if you are able to make it and like what our company is all about feel free to show up and make yourself part of the 2009 steelhead festivities. Camp is now set up and the steelhead are in!!

Fall Rainbow trout fishing, Kenai River

Trout fishing has been very good this fall. Friends and clients are all getting into big fish and lots of them. Follow the sockeye and you will be sure to get into some quality trout fishing. Flesh is starting to really produce some good fish also. 2009 fishing season is coming to an end fast but there is still time to get out on the river with us one more time. If you think that you may like to fish this season call asap to reserve your spot. Only a few more weeks of fishing and limited spots available!

STEELHEAD CAMP 2009

We will be camped out on the Anchor river the first weekend in Oct. If you are interested in capping off the end of the fishing season sharing camp with some hard core steel head fishermen we’d love to have you join us. We plan to have a wonderful camp fire Friday and sat. night with good food and laughs, along with some epic steel head fishing. There is plenty of camp sites in the area along with the Anchor river Inn for those that would like a warm room and shower at a reasonable price. Kenai river trout fishing

Trout fishing continues to get better. The middle Kenai river king salmon are really dropping eggs now and the bite is on. Large 10 mils worked best today.

ALASKA KING SALMON FISHING

King salmon fishing is officially over in Alaska now. The end of July marks the end of King salmon fishing on the Kenai peninsula. Though it was a great season we are now geared up and focused on Silver Salmon, Sockeye salmon and trout.

I had the pleasure of fishing with my family on the last day of King salmon season and this 53″ Buck took an orange cheater. We ended up landing this fish more than a mile from where it was hooked!! Though king season is over look for more pictures and info about king fishing with us in the future. The 2010 season is really not that far away so if you are interested in a prime date be sure to book early.

This is one of the 3 fish these two guys caught this day! We have stepped it up to a 30″ leader with a large egg orange cheater behind a # 40 diver. This set up is sure to produce a fish if presented right.

Kenai River King Salmon Fishing

After a long week of fishing some friends and I got a chance to break in a new Willie classic on Sunday. I don’t usually get a chance to catch a King Salmon myself but this day I did. I ended up boating this nice fish on the first pass of the morning.

We were fishing a 28 inch leader with a orange Cheater. Hope fishing is going well for everyone and look for more King Salmon information in the upcoming week!

Kenai river sockeye salmon fishing

The 2nd run Kenai river Sockeye salmon are starting to show up in good numbers. Today we saw lots of fish moving through and look to see even more in the next couple of days.

This is one of the Sockeye salmon we caught today out of the Kenai River. A long leader with just enough weight to bounce along the bottom will get you hooked up on one of these hard fighting fish.

While out on the river don’t forget to take a minute to see what is passing you by. This common merganser was out teaching her little ones how to fish when they came by.

Sockeye Salmon fishing will continue through the middle of Aug. so it is not to late to get your seat on the boat to chase these great fighting fish.

Cleaning King Salmon

A great way to remove scales from a big king salmon is to use a power washer. Some good friends of mine showed me this a few years ago and it will work on any fish that you wish to remove scales from.

Use the power wash before you gut or do any cutting to the fish for the best results.

Try it on your next salmon and see if it work for you too.
