Padres Game

Well, apparently we need to be on vacation to blog. We are visiting Angela's family in San Diego right now and it is nice. On our February Hawaii trip I said that I may blog more and it never happened. Don't expect much in the future and you won't be disappointed. We went to a Padres game in which they got crushed by the Braves. Even though they got beat it was fun. The weather has been splendid and we are getting a little sun. ~Erik

Hawaii

We are in Hawaii for the next little bit. The blog has slowed down to a crawl and I figured we would throw something up. Angela and I are on our 10 year anniversary vacation. We left the kids with grandma and grandpa and we are having a great time. Maybe I'll post again if we have a more reliable internet connection.

New Tower of distillation POWER!

For the last 3 years I have been working on a project at work to reduce the amount of benzene in our gasoline. As part of the project we put a new distillation tower on line which knocks our benzene in the dirt. May not seem that cool but it is pretty exciting to finally get it up and running. Most of my work was a couple of years ago in the design phase. The picture above was taken a few days ago in the morning. ~Erik

First Trip to the ER

Can't believe with 4 kids we hadn't been to the ER yet. Owen decided to bust open his head on a closet door as he was racing to go brush his teeth. I was minutes away from having all the kids in bed and quiet time for myself. Erik was working late and wasn't home, so I didn't have a second opinion on whether or not it merited a trip to the hospital. I decided it was a deep enough gash, and, luckily, one of my friends was able to come sit with the other munchkins so I didn't have to bring them all with me.

Owen thought the ER was great. He got his own TV. His dad came in later with some french fries for him and he had 100% of his mom's attention. 2 stitches later we were home and he didn't seem to mind at all. Erik thinks he'd bust open his head again if he could just for the attention. Don't judge us. -Angela

First Day of School

It's that time of year again, and, although it didn't feel like much of a summer, it was time to send the girls off to school. Kaitlyn is now in 2nd grade and is pretty confident, kind of knowing what to expect. Kali started kindergarten this year and was really excited. They both have great teachers and seem to be doing well. Kaitlyn has always been one who just LOVES school. Kali, on the other hand, told me she likes school, but she likes being at home more. She said it's more fun to just hang out at home. I think school will be good for her. She has a teacher that truly makes the kindergarten experience magical. -Angela

Kenai Peninsula Fair

Erik converted a bunch of pictures for me so I can keep blogging. Last weekend we went to the smallest little fair. We go every year, and, really, it's perfect for my kids being the ages they are. Erik and Owen were on a Father/Son campout, so they didn't get to join in the madnesss. I talked the girls into entering things into the exhibit portion of the fair because there just aren't that many people who enter. They have so many categories and subcategories and award a first, second, and third place for each one. So, Kaitlyn won first in her age division for pastels. Kali won second for watercolors and I won first for my cinnamon rolls. (I didn't have anyone competing against me in the sweet roll division, but it was still a boost to my ego.)

The girls also marched in the parade with Senator Murkowski. Before the parade they announced that they had more entries than ever before - over 15. Wow! Kaitlyn said it was the best day of her life. -Angela

One Year Old!

Our little Ollie Pop turned one on the 14th - it just took me a while to post it. I have never enjoyed a one year old birthday party so much. Oliver loved everything about his birthday and was so entertaining. He put on a show for everyone while he was eating his cake and even remember to pose for the camera. He was so funny digging into his cake and truly enjoyed being the center of attention (it doesn't happen a lot around here). I loved it! He got a lot of nice presents, but my favorite is this leather jacket that Erik's mom made him. I mentioned I wanted to dress him up like a Harley dude for Halloween, and this is what we got. But, it's so cute, we might have to wear it everday. -Angela (Sorry the pictures are on here weird. I'll get better at it.)

Fishing Trip

I took a day off work and went fishing. It was a fly in fishing trip with High Adventure Air. The weather wasn't that good when we started out (low fog) so we had to wait a bit to get off the ground. We fished for some silvers then hit some rainbows and grayling. It was a great day. We even saw a bear as shown below. ~Erik

When Mom is Away

Angela left Owen and I at home and went to San Diego. The girls have been visiting their grandparents down there for the last few weeks and she went to pick them up. Owen and I have been doing guy things and in the process of Owen go a bug bite. His eye has swollen shut and he looks like a cross between Rocky and Quasimodo. I think by the time mom gets home the house will be trashed, Owen and I will be passed out on the floor with candy wrappers all around us. Party on DUDE.

Cupcake Contest

I entered a cupcake contest with Duncan Hines and I am shamelessly asking for people to vote for me. I entered a little late, so I need all the votes I can get. Voting is open for another week. Basically, the top 10 people will have their entry judged by the judges. There are only about 220 entries, so I have decent chances. Anyways, here is the link. Hiking, kind of...

It was more of a walk through the woods than a hike, but with all the kids, it was perfect. Today we went for a 5th of July hike with Erik's mom and sister and my sister's family. We went on the Slikok Creek Trail down to the river and it was beautiful. Kaitlyn just finished "Critter Camp" at the wildlife refuge and was able to identify all sorts of vegetation. As always, there was a little bit of drama. Owen broke Kali's hiking stick and, as my sister pointed out, all the kids were crying except for the babies. Always an adventure with the munchkins. -Angela

Fishing, not catching

It has been raining all week. I was going stir crazy, so I talked Erik into taking us to the lake with the kids' new fishing poles. They got new poles last week at a river festival. They were giving poles away to kids for free and the kids couldn't wait to try them out. We went over to the lake by Erik's parents' house. Unfortunately, right as we arrived, a man with his swimming dog came over and splashed around a lot, scaring away any fish that may have been in the area. So, we didn't catch anything, but we had fun just being out together as a family. -Angela

Summer Fun

On Friday night we had a sleepover with the Hansen kiddos. It's so nice because each of the kids have someone about their same age and they all get along pretty well. They were out jumping on the trampoline and wanted Erik to take pictures of them. The trampoline pictures didn't work out too well so he started snapping pictures of the kids on the swings and the grass. Elliott stopped by to visit too. Here are a couple of our favorites. Isn't Addi gorgeous? I am so glad it is summer time and we can be outside. -Angela

I'm sure everyone has noticed that the blog has gone downhill the last few months. Erik has been extremely busy and will probably be extremely busy for the next 5 years or so, so in an effort to help him and keep my out-of-town family up to date, I am taking over. The blog won't be as pretty. It may not be super consistent. The pictures won't open up all cutesy and stuff, but at least we'll be able to reach out and share a little of our family with you.

Over Memorial Day weekend we took the boat out on our maiden voyage of the year for a short camping trip. Boy was it "memorial." We had some boat trouble and ended up bobbing out at sea for 2 1/2 hours with 5 kids (2 of them were babies). It was crazy! But, with the help of kind friends we were towed back to harbor and our boat was repaired and we were on our way. My sister, Barbara, and her husband, Tyler, and baby, Elliott, came with us. It was fun! We all had fun around the campfire and exploring tidepools. Sleeping was another story, but all in all, it was a great weekend. Here are some pictures of the munchkins. -Angela

New Hair Cuts
