<p>It&#8217;s a little warm in Italy this month. After all, it&#8217;s June. But that hasn&#8217;t stopped us from exploring some of the tiny kingdoms in Puglia (pron. POO-lia).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Come along on a brief photo tour from Rome, to Naples, to Puglia in the &#8220;heel&#8221; of Italy&#8217;s boot.</p>

<p><strong><a href="http://www.alaskaair.com">Alaska Air</a></strong>&#8216;s new Seattle-Rome nonstop made the journey oh-so-easy. In fact, on our food tour in Naples, the other folks on the tour also flew over with Alaska. The dad confessed he used &#8220;all his points&#8221; so he and his wife could fly in the lie-flat business class seats. Two thumbs up.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2870-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20674" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2870-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2870-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2870-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2870-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2870-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2870-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2870-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2870-1350x1012.jpg 1350w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">&#8220;Golden Hour&#8221; in the hill town of Locorotondo, in Puglia.</figcaption></figure>

<p>We left Rome after a few days on a quick train ride to Bari, on Italy&#8217;s eastern shore. After picking up a car, we drove south to our vacation rental in &#8220;Ceglie Messapica&#8221;. Please don&#8217;t ask me to pronounce it. But it&#8217;s a lovely small town with ancient roots. Like most towns in the area, it sits atop a big hill with commanding views all around. There&#8217;s a big church, a nearby public square and a car-free pedestrian zone which is filled with restaurants and shops.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2788-768x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20675" style="width:768px;height:auto" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2788-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2788-225x300.jpg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2788-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2788-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2788-100x133.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2788-999x1332.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2788-1350x1800.jpg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/IMG_2788-scaled.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Our guide, Sonia, on the &#8220;Backstreets of Naples&#8221; tour&#8230;.holds up a classic Neopolitan pizza with marinara sauce. DEE-LISH.</figcaption></figure>

<p>We actually did a day trip from Rome to Naples. We went on a tour, called &#8220;The Back Streets of Naples&#8221; , by <strong><a href="http://www.culinarybackstreets.com">Culinary Backstreets</a></strong>. Our guide, Sonia, offered a wonderful perspective on Neopolitan life&#8211;even before the Italian unification in 1862. Naples once was its own kingdom, which included Sicily, Puglia and some of the neighboring areas. Some of the dishes we sampled from street-side shops had ancient roots (like pizza and pasta), but much of it was new, based on necessity in times of poverty, hunger, or both. To go along with the food, we enjoyed several varieties of local wines&#8211;which are delicious.</p>

<p>The art, the statuary and the triumphant architecture of Italy really takes my breath away. Churches and cathedrals throughout the region continue to mark the center of a community. For so long they have been the center of social, political and economic activity. We never miss an opportunity to pause, reflect and pray on our journeys. Usually we light a candle (or two).</p>

<p>Our recent visit to Las Vegas delivered all the key components of a quality Sin City experience – from bougie restaurants to boozy mini golf to bountiful beams of much-needed sunshine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After a redeye into <a href="https://www.harryreidairport.com/">Harry Reid International Airport</a>, we scored a pickup from our friend Jack and started the day at <a href="https://www.urthcaffe.com/">Urth Caffé</a> in Henderson, a Vegas suburb. Jack previously mentioned Urth as a healthy dining option in Las Vegas, known for roasting its own exclusive organic coffees and designing menus around relationships with local family farms and sustainable ingredients.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Photo: Eggs Verde at Urth Caffé.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>I ordered Eggs Verde, two velvety poached eggs over wild arugula, roasted corn, baby tomatoes and poached asparagus, tossed with peppercorn dressing, basil oil, and nutty shavings of Reggiano parmesan. The fresh, bright breakfast was complimented by an iced coffee. Urth has a location in Wynn Las Vegas too (along with Southern California, Saudi Arabia and Dubai…) and is a refreshing option to break up the monotony of Vegas gluttony. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Photo: Las Vegas, we have arrived!</strong></p>

<p>Next stop: the Las Vegas Strip. We cruised past the Welcome to Las Vegas sign, and the towering hotels and casinos shimmering in the desert sun. This iconic entry is often missed when Ubering or taxiing from the airport and we admired the excessiveness and glitz that defines Las Vegas.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Photo: Katie and Joe with a glimpse of the casino floor at Planet Hollywood.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>That night, double-dating with Jack and his girlfriend Izzy for an evening of food, drinks, and fun, we headed to the Linq and started the night at 99 Prince. This cozy dive bar just off Linq’s casino floor gives gritty urban vibes, designed with tiles and neon for a New York City subway station feel, and bodega-esque décor framing the bar.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5047-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20641" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5047-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5047-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5047-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5047-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5047-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5047-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5047-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5047.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Trendy but accessible, its website brags it’s the “kind of place where you can kick back whether you’re a cocktail connoisseur, an off-duty bartender, or someone’s very cool mom.” As for the name, 99 Prince? Think Prince song lyrics:<em> “Tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999…”</em></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5049-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20642" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5049-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5049-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5049-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5049-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5049-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5049-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5049-rotated.jpeg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Hello? Did someone say “Party time?” Katie at 99 Prince.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Upstairs, we arrived for our reservation at <a href="https://spiegelworld.com/restaurants/diner-ross/">Diner Ross</a>, one of Vegas’s most buzzy newer restaurants, earning an Eater 2024 “Best New Restaurant” award. Diner Ross blends kitsch and class, a DJ casting a lively party vibe against the backdrop of throw-back diner décor.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5056-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20643" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5056-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5056-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5056-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5056-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5056-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5056-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5056-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5056.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Jack takes in the comedy at Diner Ross.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>The venue proved entertaining. A pair of classically dressed waitresses in half-aprons delivered ongoing tableside comedy. Mid-meal, two men in head-to-toe silver clothing and body paint rocked a robotic dance-off to 1984’s “Jam On It” by Nucleus.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5062-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20645" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5062-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5062-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5062-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5062-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5062-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5062-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5062-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5062.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: The bar at Diner Ross.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Soon our table was full of food: complimentary popovers with fluffy chive-topped butter, beet salad atop whipped feta with pistachios and orange vinaigrette, dirty martini bibb lettuce salad with sweetie drop peppers and roquefort and pickled onions, and platters of sizzling prime steaks with classic sides.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="725" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5057-1024x725.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20644" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5057-1024x725.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5057-300x212.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5057-768x544.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5057-100x71.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5057-999x707.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5057-1350x956.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5057.jpeg 1357w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Joe strikes a pose at Swingers</strong></p>

<p>As you golf, the Swingers staff regularly appears to refresh drinks. There is also a bar area and food menu. A six-stroke max per player per round ensures things move along, though we rarely needed that limit – all of us got at least one hole-in-one. We had so much fun round one that we played a second game.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5073-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20647" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5073-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5073-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5073-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5073-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5073-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5073-rotated.jpeg 1158w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Swingers selfie!&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>I began the next morning as I would all my Vegas mornings: at the pool on a comfy daybed, guzzling water flavored with Liquid IV packets and devouring books in the sunshine. Planet Hollywood has two pools and I opted for the 21+ pool, enjoying a quiet, sunny start to the day. &nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5077-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20648" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5077-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5077-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5077-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5077-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5077-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5077-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5077-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5077.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: The pool at PH.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Husband Joe and I walked to <a href="https://linqpromenade.com/tenant/in-n-out-burger/">In-n-Out Burger</a> in the Linq Promenade for lunch. This is a staple on Vegas vacations because it’s a) cheap, b) delicious, and c) not something we can get in Alaska. The place was packed but the line moved fast and we were soon enjoying burgers in the mid-day sun.&nbsp;</p>

<p>British restauranteur and reality TV personality Lisa Vanderpump is a trending topic in Las Vegas as of late due to her current remodeling and rebranding of the hotel formerly known as The Cromwell into <a href="https://www.caesars.com/vanderpump-hotel">The Vanderpump Hotel</a>. That wasn’t quite open when we visited; but we did visit <a href="https://www.caesars.com/flamingo-las-vegas/restaurants/pinkys-by-vanderpump?utm_campaign=gmb&amp;utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=local&amp;utm_term=FLV65&amp;utm_content=restaurant&amp;y_source=1_MTA4OTM3MjI1MS03MTUtbG9jYXRpb24ud2Vic2l0ZQ==">Pinky’s by Vanderpump</a> in The Flamingo.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pinky’s is chic and feminine, with bursting floral arrangements and tumbling arrays of foliage and greenery, gilded mirrors and art deco décor, awash in a sensuous jade green and blush pink color palette.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A perfect date-night choice, we toasted with champagne cocktails and nibbled off a series of small plates. Our selections included goat cheese balls with strawberry and hot honey, grilled cheese pretzel bites with a tomato bisque dipper, and tiny pigs-in-a-blanket with a stone ground mustard.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5125-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20653" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5125-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5125-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5125-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5125-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5125-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5125-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5125-rotated.jpeg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p>Our Pinky’s departure timed perfectly with a viewing of the <a href="https://bellagio.mgmresorts.com/en/entertainment/fountains-of-bellagio.html">Fountains of Bellagio</a>, a free nightly attraction in the giant 8.5-acre man-made lake in front of Bellagio resort on the Las Vegas Strip. In the evening, a light and water show set to music dazzles regularly, with 1,214 water nozzles, 4,792 lights, and water shooting as high as 460 feet into the air. Pause and appreciate this spectacle at least once on any Vegas visit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A trip highlight was my rejuvenating visit to <a href="https://www.caesars.com/caesars-palace/things-to-do/qua">Qua Baths and Spa</a> at Caesars Palace. The sprawling facility features tepid and hot pools, a cold plunge, steam rooms and dry saunas, and even an arctic room where it legit snows. A relaxation lounge featured wellness literature, snacks and refreshments.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5151-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20655" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5151-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5151-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5151-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5151-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5151-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5151-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5151-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5151.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Inside Caesars Palace.<br><br></strong>Heated wooden loungers in the baths room felt like a full-body massage. Spa use is free with any treatment; the $120 day pass provides three hours of unfettered access. Qua spa areas are same-sex, clothing optional, though notably, nearly everyone was in bathing suits in robes. The place teemed with women of all ages – solo spa-goers like me, on up to large groups.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p>That night, we met up with our friends and Vegas residents Ken and Ashley for dinner at Carmella. This is a newer restaurant above the casino floor of Planet Hollywood, and includes an incredible bar, a spacious balcony overlooking the Vegas Strip, and a candy shop-themed speakeasy.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5172-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20657" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5172-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5172-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5172-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5172-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5172-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5172-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5172-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5172.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Our spread at Carmella.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Carmella cuisine is characterized by classic old-world flavors and rustic abundance. Our table shared crusty, cheesy garlic bread with marinara and pesto dippers, beefy meatballs nestled in savory tomato sauce, and a spicy tomato penne with cream, calabrese chili and parmesan. We also ordered filet mignon, the Chilean sea bass, and Ceasar salad. The unhurried and enjoyable feast provided a perfect stage for old friends catching up around the table.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5180-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20658" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5180-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5180-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5180-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5180-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5180-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5180-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5180-rotated.jpeg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p>The next day – our last full day of our vacation – I ventured along the strip to a favorite retail and dining spot, <a href="https://www.eataly.com/us_en/stores/las-vegas">Eataly</a>. Connected to Park MGM and next to New York New York, Eataly is an homage to Italy, a compound of restaurants and food counters and bars beneath a single roof, where you can also buy olive oil or dried pasta or gelato or just about anything else connected to Italian cuisine. I’ve visited locations in New York and Chicago that are similarly delightful and tasty.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5196-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20660" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5196-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5196-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5196-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5196-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5196-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5196-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5196-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5196.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Inside Eataly.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>I shimmied up to a bar (one of many to choose from!) for a crisp rosé. At the bartender’s recommendation, I ordered the house special pasta: the tagliatelle ala Bolognese. The dish consisted of thin ribbons of house-made pasta in a slow-simmered beef and pork tomato ragu. It was luscious, savory, with just a hint of sweetness, served with ample fresh-grated parmesan.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5194-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20659" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5194-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5194-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5194-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5194-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5194-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5194-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5194-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5194.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Keeping up with the “me time” theme, I made an appointment at <a href="https://www.drybarshops.com/service/locator/detail/?slug=miracle-mile-las-vegas">Dry Bar</a> in the Miracle Mile Shops. I do love the Dry Bar experience: the stylist languidly washes and conditions your hair with an impressive parade of foamy, soothing, lovely-smelling hair products, then slowly dries your tresses while you Zen out and immerse in a self-care break from the Vegas craziness. What’s not to love?&nbsp;</p>

<p>Locks all glossy and blown out, it was the grand finale, dinner at <a href="https://www.monamigabi.com/las-vegas/?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=MAGLV-GBiz">Mon Ami Gabi</a> in <a href="https://www.caesars.com/paris-las-vegas?utm_campaign=google&amp;utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=local&amp;utm_term=ParisLasVegas&amp;utm_content=hotel&amp;y_source=1_NDM2Njg4NS03MTUtbG9jYXRpb24ud2Vic2l0ZQ==">Paris Las Vegas</a>. This French restaurant delivers dependably excellent service, charming ambiance, and delicious food. We dined on baguettes, steak frites and crisp salads, and for dessert, a fluffy chocolate mousse with a dollop of whipped cream and tiny, crunchy chocolate pearls.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Before our departure the next day, we hit up the slot machines for a final round. Both of us enjoy gambling and are fairly loyal to the Caesars Rewards program. If you’re serious about Vegas, and are going to spend money gambling, its beneficial to declare allegiance to a property chain and rewards program and reap the benefits – like comped rooms, meals, and pool day beds, and occasional offers like concert tickets and free cruises.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5207-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20662" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5207-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5207-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5207-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5207-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5207-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5207-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5207-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_5207.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: A shot of our massive (comped) room in Planet Hollywood.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>With that, another Vegas experience drew to a close, a fun-filled four days packed with new experiences, old favorites, late nights and poolside mornings. The novelty of Vegas is that it isn’t just one thing; as your tastes and preferences evolve, simply seek out the experiences that match your needs and desired itinerary. From clubs to lounges to concerts, fast casual to fine dining, slot machines to table games, and boozy putt-putt to actual golf courses, Vegas really does have something for everyone. I’m already curiously counting down to our next visit to Sin City.&nbsp;</p>

This is the mountain where St. Patrick fasted and prayed for 40 days. We, however, did our fasting and praying at sea level.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Prior to our arrival in Westport, on Ireland&#8217;s Atlantic Coast, I&#8217;d never heard of the <strong><a href="https://www.thewildatlanticway.com/">Wild Atlantic Way</a></strong>.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s the longest continuous coastal road in the world.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Stretching from Ireland&#8217;s far north coast in Donegal to the southern tip of the country in County Cork, the Wild Atlantic Way weaves through every corner of the coast. There are cultural highlights, adventure opportunities, visits to national parks&#8211;and all manner of traveling diversions for visitors. Here are a few reflections as we pack up and head back to Dublin.</p>

<p>We started our journey on the Wild Atlantic Way in Westport, after driving over from Kilbeggan. We check in to our B-n-B outside of town right on the water: <strong><a href="https://www.bandbireland.com/accommodation/27171/achill-view-farm">Achill View B&amp;B</a></strong>.</p>

<p>Our host, Margaret Cannon, was delightful. Her scones were delicious&#8211;just one part of the cooked breakfast she provided each morning. Choose from bacon and eggs, oatmeal or more traditional Irish dishes, including black pudding or white pudding. None for me, thanks.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Her BnB sits across the street from a pasture and you can see the ocean from the door. The path to the ocean is overgrown, but there are paths nearby at the &#8220;National Famine Memorial&#8221;, commemmorating the horrific famine of 1845-49.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2235-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20609" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2235-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2235-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2235-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2235-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2235-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2235-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2235-1350x1012.jpg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2235.jpg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The striking sculpture of the infamous &#8220;coffin ships&#8221; that took starving Irish emigrants to the U.S.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Note: You have to pay Margaret in cash&#8211;so I drove down to the gas station, paid $9 per gallon to fill up and harvested some cash for our room.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2241-1-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20611" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2241-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2241-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2241-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2241-1-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2241-1-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2241-1-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2241-1-1350x1013.jpg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2241-1.jpg 1680w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">A nice view from Margaret&#8217;s comfy dining room looking towards the beach.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Next, we drove down to the town of Clifden.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2248-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20612" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2248-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2248-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2248-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2248-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2248-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2248-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2248-1350x1012.jpg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2248.jpg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The main house at Kylemore Abbey.</figcaption></figure>

<p>On the way, we pulled off to tour the incredible <strong><a href="https://www.kylemoreabbey.com/">Kylemore Abbey</a></strong>. First constructed as a summer home, the main house boasts 36 bedrooms. Perfect for a summer party, eh? The real question is: how many bathrooms? HA.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2250-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20613" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2250-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2250-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2250-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2250-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2250-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2250-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2250-1350x1012.jpg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2250.jpg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The view from Kylemore Abbey&#8217;s main house across the pond to the mountains beyond.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Near the house is a giant Victorian walled&nbsp; garden. All manner of flowers and vegetables are grown here.</p>

<p>But not by the original owners. The <strong><a href="https://trust.kylemoreabbey.com/">Benedictine Order </a></strong>bought the property several years ago&#8230;and there&#8217;s a community on-site. But the tours are a vital part of the mission. &nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2277-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20614" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2277-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2277-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2277-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2277-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2277-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2277-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2277-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2277-1350x1012.jpg 1350w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Hiking in Connemara National Park</figcaption></figure>

<p>We also passed Connemara National Park, where we returned later to go hiking.</p>

<p>Along the Wild Atlantic Way, there are several loops for scenic drives. One, the &#8220;Sky Road&#8221; leaves from Clifden for about 20km along a peninsula. We stopped at Clifden Castle for a look and a walk in the rain.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2260-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20615" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2260-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2260-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2260-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2260-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2260-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2260-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2260-1350x1012.jpg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2260.jpg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Walkin&#8217; in the rain at Clifden Castle&#8230;which has seen better days!</figcaption></figure>

<p>Bring your rain gear!&nbsp;</p>

<p>Christy got the better end of our Sky Road drive&#8230;.as I was concentrating on the left-side driving!&nbsp;</p>

<p>The trip back up the coast to Connemara National Park offered a nice hike and great views of the water. The weather cooperated!</p>

<p>Ireland&#8217;s coast is rugged and twisted. There are a hundred different spots to pull over and enjoy some spectacular views, beach walks and hikes up the nearby hills.</p>

<p>There also are countless cultural sites, as Ireland has a rich and varied history stretching back thousands of years&#8212;well before St. Patrick arrived on the scene in the 6th century (CE).</p>

<p>After Clifden, we made our way to Doolin for three nights. G-r-e-a-t traditional Irish music in this town. I wrote a story about our visit, including our trip to the Aran Islands by ferry.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="666" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/View-recent-photos-1024x666.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20616" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/View-recent-photos-1024x666.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/View-recent-photos-300x195.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/View-recent-photos-768x500.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/View-recent-photos-100x65.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/View-recent-photos-999x650.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/View-recent-photos.jpeg 1108w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Local musicians rock the house at Gus O&#8217;Connor&#8217;s pub in Doolin.</figcaption></figure>

<p>In the story, I talk about Doolin&#8217;s heritage as the center of traditional Irish music.&nbsp; Our hostess at O&#8217;Connor&#8217;s Farmhouse, Bernice, gave us some recommendations&#8230;so we went to three different pubs for live music. All were less than a five-minute walk&#8230;across a skinny one-lane bridge.</p>

<p>We dedicated one day to exploring the Aran Islands by ferry. Christy booked a van ride with Joe Gill, whose family has been on the island for more than 300 years. </p>

<p>Joe drove us around the island to spot harbor seals, visit the ruins of 8th century churches and to a high point where we could hike up to a Bronze Age fort overlooking spectacular cliffs.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2379-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20619" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2379-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2379-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2379-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2379-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2379-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2379.jpg 1210w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>All along the cliffs, the flowers sprang up from the rocks. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2369-768x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20620" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2369-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2369-225x300.jpg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2369-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2369-100x133.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2369-999x1332.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2369-1350x1800.jpg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2369.jpg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p>We opted to do a boat tour (operated by the ferry) to see the giant Cliffs of Mohar from the water. Don&#8217;t miss it.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2421-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20621" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2421-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2421-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2421-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2421-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2421-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2421-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2421-1350x1012.jpg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2421.jpg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The Cliffs of Mohar, seen from the water. </figcaption></figure>

<p>Additionally, we drove down the road for an up-close look at the Cliffs of Kilkee. Fabulous views. Just don&#8217;t get too close to the edge.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2487-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20622" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2487-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2487-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2487-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2487-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2487-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2487-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2487-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2487-1350x1012.jpg 1350w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The winds were howling&#8230;I really was a little too close to the edge here at the Cliffs of Kilkee.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Next stop: the Dingle Peninsula. The port of Dingle is the first real fishing port we&#8217;ve seen. </p>

<p>There&#8217;s at least one boat-to-table restaurant in Dingle&#8211;and we tried it: <strong><a href="https://www.thefishboxdingle.com/">The Fish Box</a></strong>. Dad owns the boat. Mom works in the kitchen. Son owns the restaurant and daughter works the front of the house. Christy had fish-and-ships with monkfish. I had black sole. Both dishes were expertly prepared. I&#8217;d never tasted black sole before&#8211;and I had to kinda pick it off the bones. But delicious. Christy said the batter was done just right&#8211;not to bready or greasy and the fish was delicious. Two thumbs up.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2494-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20623" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2494-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2494-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2494-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2494-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2494-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2494-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2494-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2494-1350x1012.jpg 1350w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The Black Sole was right off the boat&#8230;served up with local vegetables at The Fish Box in Dingle.</figcaption></figure>

<p>Tonight we opted for Fenton&#8217;s Restaurant&#8230;.it&#8217;s been around for 40 years. Delicious. This time I had the monkfish with scallops and Christy chose the vegetarian dish. Both were scrumptuous. But the standout was the dessert: a chocolate toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. I ordered the tiramisu. Both selections were over the top&#8230;.and now I have to go lay down.</p>

<p>We missed out: Rather, we missed &#8220;Out of the Blue&#8221;, a seafood restaurant that&#8217;s notoriously hard to get into. We even tried to crash the gate when we arrived to see if there were cancellations. No luck.</p>

<p>Out Wild Atlantic Way tour today: &#8220;Slea Head Drive&#8221; included a visit to the Baskit Island Center, the observatory old church and many viewpoints along the way. Plus&#8211;a surprising clifftop cafe that just reopened. &#8220;Caifé na Trá&#8221;. It opens late (10:30 a.m.), but the views are spectacular.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2500-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20624" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2500-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2500-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2500-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2500-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2500-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2500-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2500-1350x1012.jpg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2500.jpg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">It was a nice day for a drive. We stopped at Caifé na Trá for a bite.</figcaption></figure>

<p>We just scratched the surface of Ireland&#8217;s Wild Atlantic Way&#8230;.never mind the many stories throughout the country.&nbsp; Are you going to check it out for yourselves? I hope so. Tell me how it goes!&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Getting there: </strong>We flew Aer Lingus on the nonstop from Seattle. Then, we rented a car&#8230;which has its own challenges (right-hand drive, narrow roads, $9.00/gallon gas). We liked that idea better than a bus tour.</p>

<p><strong>Accommodations: </strong>Christy stitched together a collection of small hotels, apartment rentals and b-n-bs. It worked fine for us. There are lots of different variables for where to stay, of course.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2295-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20625" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2295-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2295-300x225.jpg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2295-768x576.jpg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2295-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2295-100x75.jpg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2295-999x749.jpg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2295-1350x1012.jpg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_2295.jpg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Long overdue for a girls’ trip, I recently enjoyed a Seattle weekend with five amazing women, packing plenty of brunch, bars, bonding and Bainbridge into two fun-filled days and nights. Our adventures packed a punch and proved that for us Alaskans, you don’t need to go far if you want to get away for a few days: Seattle was the perfect eclectic backdrop for big-city shenanigans and urban culture, with a much-needed side of springtime sunshine. &nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2648-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20545" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2648-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2648-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2648-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2648-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2648-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2648-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2648-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2648-1350x1013.jpeg 1350w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: A sunny brunch on Bainbridge Island: left-right, Alaska girls Erin, Jessica and Katie; Jamie from Montana, and Shanda and Kat from the Seattle area.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>With three of us coming from Alaska and one from Montana, and two living in the Seattle area, Washington’s big city was an ideal spot to centralize. <strong><a href="http://www.alaskaair.com">Alaska Airlines</a></strong> operates more than a dozen direct flights daily from ANC to SEA, making getting there a cinch. The occasion: our friend Erin celebrating a milestone birthday, and the rest of us happily along for the ride. Upon our Friday arrival, we headed to an incredible dinner at <a href="https://www.bangrakmarket.com/">Bangrak Market</a> in the Bell Town neighborhood. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4189-1-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20546" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4189-1-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4189-1-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4189-1-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4189-1-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4189-1-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4189-1-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4189-1.jpeg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Shanda, Katie, Jessica, Kat and Erin at Bangrak Market.</strong></p>

<p>This vibrant restaurant gave serious Thailand night-market vibes. Picture dangling lanterns, streamers of colorful flags, flavorful and aromatic small plates of deliciously seasoned and spiced Thai food, and a bustling energy backdropped by pulsating party music.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4602-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20547" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4602-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4602-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4602-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4602-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4602-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4602-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4602-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4602.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Fancy drinks at Bangrak Market.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>We crowded into a booth whose table was soon topped with rainbow-hued, flower-topped cocktails. Food arrived in waves: marinated chicken skewers with peanut sauce, heaps of cucumber salad, charbroiled steak with spicy dipping sauce, a pile of bright green beans dressed in garlic sauce and garlicky shallots, and two heaping portions of Pad Thai with juicy shrimp and chicken.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="743" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4603-1024x743.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20548" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4603-1024x743.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4603-300x218.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4603-768x557.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4603-100x73.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4603-999x724.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4603-1350x979.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4603.jpeg 1499w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Green beans and Pad Thai at Bangrak Market.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>When we left Bangrak Market, a couple dozen folks clustered outside awaiting tables. Our next destination: Bell Town’s staple speakeasy, <a href="https://bathtubginseattle.com/">Bathtub Gin &amp; Co</a>. Bathtub Gin is located on an alley between Bell and Blanchard streets, between First and Second avenues. Look for the wooden door with the plaque mounted beside it. Don’t be intimated by the gatekeeper security guard; the interior space is small and crowd size is strictly managed. Go early to avoid a wait.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4192-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20549" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4192-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4192-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4192-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4192-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4192-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4192-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4192-rotated.jpeg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Gin drinks and espresso martinis at Bathtub Gin.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>The speakeasy fully leans into character – moody, secretive, atmospheric. The building itself was designed in 1923 and completed in 1928 so that the bar – in the building’s original boiler room space – effortlessly oozes with 1920s ambiance. The security guard escorted us down dark narrow stairs to a tiny cave-like room with flickering candles, tiny tables, and a few other patrons casually sipping artisan cocktails.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4608-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20550" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4608-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4608-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4608-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4608-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4608-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4608-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4608-rotated.jpeg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: A clever menu at Bathtub Gin.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>We enjoyed an unhurried round of gin drinks, wine and champagne. Crazy enough, a patron at another table was an Anchorage coworker, and after recovering from our initial shock, I was delighted to deliver the classic Casablanca line, “Of all the gin joints in all the world…”&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2639-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20551" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2639-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2639-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2639-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2639-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2639-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2639-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2639-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2639-rotated.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Group girl shot at Cyclops:&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>After Bathtub Gin, we wandered down to <a href="http://www.cyclopsseattle.com/">Cyclops Café and Lounge</a>, a quintessential Bell Town dive bar. Comfortable seating spaces and an unpretentious aura make it an ideal venue to end the night. Its small but comprehensive menu (think burgers, salads and apps) makes it a solid dinner option.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4617-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20552" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4617-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4617-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4617-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4617-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4617-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4617-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4617-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4617.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: The spread at La Parisienne French Bakery.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>We woke Saturday to gorgeous bluebird skies. I joined friends Erin and Jamie on a mission to enjoy a neighborhood favorite, <a href="https://www.laparisienneseattle.com/">La Parisienne French Bakery</a>. A true sweets-lovers treat, the bakery boasted rows of colorful macarons, fluffy and layered pastries, buttery croissants, and other tasty creations.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4618-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20553" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4618-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4618-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4618-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4618-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4618-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4618-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4618-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4618.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Jamie and Erin with their morning sammies.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Erin enjoyed Le Saumon, fresh soft bread with cream, salad, salmon and cucumber; and Jamie went classic with Le Parisien sandwich, a fresh baguette filled with butter, salad, gruyere, French ham and cornichons. Both were served in traditional rustic paper bags and we shared bites as we meandered back toward the hotel. &nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4622-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20554" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4622-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4622-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4622-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4622-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4622-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4622-rotated.jpeg 1158w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Seattle selfie on the waterfront with the Big Wheel in the distance. &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>After that, our whole group of six made our way toward the ferry terminal. Our 20-minute walk wove behind Pike Place Market along the waterfront, where 17 blocks of newish pedestrian-focused public space are blooming where the Alaskan Way Viaduct once traversed. With terraces, park space, a bike path, and gorgeous views of downtown and the waterfront, we soaked up the sun (and shed some jackets!).&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4625-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20555" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4625-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4625-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4625-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4625-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4625-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4625-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4625-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4625.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Sunny days in Seattle.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Passing classic retail space (the aquarium! Ivars! Ye Olde Curiosity Shop!) we came upon the <a href="https://wsdot.com/ferries/vesselwatch/terminaldetail.aspx?terminalid=7">Seattle Ferry Terminal</a> at Pier 52. Adult tickets to <a href="https://visitbainbridgeisland.org/">Bainbridge Island</a> cost $11.05 and can be purchased in-person at the terminal, at its kiosks, or online, with ships departing about every hour and the passage lasting a leisurely 35 minutes.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4634-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20557" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4634-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4634-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4634-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4634-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4634-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4634-rotated.jpeg 1158w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p>We bought coffees at the onboard café and enjoyed the breezy view from the top deck. Sailboats dotted the shimmering blue water and seabirds dipped on the breeze. As Bainbridge Island came into view, we marveled at the beachy shoreside mansions and the picturesque harbor.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Photo: Seattle in the distance as the ferry chugs toward Bainbridge Island.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Bainbridge Island is connected to the mainland only by ferry and has about 25,000 residents. Known for boutique shops, vineyards and tasting rooms, scenic views and delicious cafes and bakeries, it was an ideal destination for a girls’ afternoon. From the ferry pier, it is an easy, under-10-minute walk to the main street.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Photo: The Amelia Wynn Winery Bistro.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>We started our island afternoon at <a href="https://ameliawynnwinerybistro.com/">Amelia Wynn Winery Bistro</a>, scoring a table for six on the pretty patio despite not having a reservation, as we made the café’s first seating of the day. Wine flights were poured and sipped, lunch ordered, and we enjoyed entrees such as fresh tossed salads with poached chicken and towering grilled chicken sandwiches on fresh brioche buns. The table shared a side of fennel pollen fries and a warm petite camembert cheese plate with local honey, house jam and crostini.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4663-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20560" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4663-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4663-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4663-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4663-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4663-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4663-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4663-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4663.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Wandering among Bainbridge’s multitude of shops easily soaked up the afternoon hours, perusing racks of clothes, jewelry displays, artistic housewares and stacks of books. We wrapped up the now-late afternoon down the hill by the harbor at <a href="https://docsgrill.com/">Doc’s Marina Grill</a>, with a round of rosé and a sampling of clam chowder, enjoying the picture-perfect views of boats bobbing shoreside.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Photo: The harbor at Bainbridge Island.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>After an easy ferry ride back to Seattle, the group had a quick refresh and recharge, then hailed an Uber XL to Capitol Hill. This storied Seattle neighborhood is known for its hip bars, trendy eateries, gay clubs and burlesque shows, live music performances, and lots of low-key retro and indie shopping.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4707-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20564" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4707-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4707-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4707-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4707-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4707-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4707-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4707-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4707.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Inside Comet Tavern.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Our first stop: <a href="https://thecomettavern.com/">the Comet Tavern</a>. The high ceiling and brick interior radiated Pacific Northwest urban charm and made the tavern an ideal spot to regroup before heading to dinner across the street at <a href="https://www.vivapoquitos.com/">Pequitos</a>.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2665-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20563" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2665-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2665-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2665-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2665-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2665-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2665-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2665-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2665.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: A group toast at Pequitos.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>At Pequitos, our charming waiter was attentive and appropriately low-key flirtatious as he delivered rounds of fresh guacamole, queso, bean dip, chips, and various tequila drinks.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4226-1-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20565" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4226-1-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4226-1-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4226-1-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4226-1-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4226-1-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4226-1-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4226-1.jpeg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Killer nachos at Pequitos.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Dinner itself was delicious – around the table were plates of shrimp and carnitas tacos, el pastor platters, nachos, and more. The leisurely meal lasted an endearingly long time, moving at the perfect languid place for a group of gals out on the town, focused on having fun and catching up after too long apart.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2334-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20566" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2334-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2334-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2334-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2334-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2334-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2334-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2334-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2334.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Katie and Jamie relaxing at Cottontail Club.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>To end the night, it was back to our home base of Bell Town. Half the group walked (it took about 25 minutes), while ones with less practical footwear took a Lyft. We rendezvoused at <a href="https://cottontailbelltown.com/">Cottontail Club</a>, another off-alley speakeasy brimming with history and character.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="576" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2679-576x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20567" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2679-576x1024.jpeg 576w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2679-169x300.jpeg 169w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2679-768x1365.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2679-864x1536.jpeg 864w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2679-100x178.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2679-999x1776.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2679.jpeg 1134w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Décor from bars-gone-by at Cottaintail Club.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Locals know Cottontail is packed with nostalgic décor and memorabilia from now-gone neighborhood bars, such as Lava Lounge, Rabbit Hole, Mr. Darcy&#8217;s, and The Bear &amp; The Bee. The building previously housed the laundromat and club Sit &amp; Spin which hosted such musical acts as The White Stripes, Modest Mouse, and Macklemore.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2337-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20568" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2337-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2337-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2337-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2337-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2337-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2337-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2337-rotated.jpeg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Jamie’s fancy drink at Cottontail.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>The friendly bartender was ready with recommendations and eager to showcase the day’s specialty beverages. The clever cocktails proved whimsical and creative; my friend Kat had a drink out of what appeared to be an Asian food take-out container, while Jamie’s beverage had a tiny rubber ducky floating on top.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2683-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20569" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2683-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2683-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2683-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2683-1536x2048.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2683-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2683-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2683-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2683-scaled.jpeg 1920w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Brunch beverages at The Hart and the Hunter.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>On our final day, Sunday, our girlfriend Shanda headed home, north of Seattle, and Jamie caught an early flight to Montana. Us remaining four headed to brunch at <a href="https://www.thehartandthehunter.com/">The Hart and the Hunter</a>. Located in the Palihotel, the menu pulls from American diner inspiration, upgrading classic dishes with locally sourced food and fine-dining twists.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2346-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20570" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2346-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2346-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2346-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2346-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2346-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2346-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2346-rotated.jpeg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: House hash at The Hart and the Hunter.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>For example, the meat in the corned beef hash is smoked in-house, served with a velvety poached egg, and house-made hollandaise and pickled vegetables. The biscuits are <em>so good </em>(trust me!) that you can (and should) order them as a side. They are available with many of the brunch items and also used in the eggs Benedect in lieu of the traditional English muffin.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4744-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20571" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4744-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4744-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4744-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4744-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4744-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4744-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4744-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4744.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>After brunch, it was time to brave the crowds at what is a mandatory stop during any Seattle excursion, <a href="http://pikeplacemarket.org/">Pike Place Market</a>. Any stop at the Market always offers plenty to see, sample and sip.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Photo: Seafood at Pike Place Market on a stormy Sunday.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>We popped into <a href="https://beechershandmadecheese.com/">Beecher’s Handmade Cheese</a> to share a cup of the classic mac, wandered past the flower stalls bursting with bright tulips and other seasonal flowers, and stopped at various stalls to chat with vendors and purchase trinkets and souvenirs.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="1024" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2684-768x1024.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20573" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2684-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2684-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2684-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2684-1536x2048.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2684-100x133.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2684-999x1332.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2684-1350x1800.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2684-scaled.jpeg 1920w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: Beautiful spring tulips at Pike Place Market.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Soon enough, it was time to pack up and head to the airport, and bid farewell to our amazing hotel, <a href="https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/seacsup-the-sound-hotel-seattle-belltown/">The Sound Hotel Seattle Belltown, Tapestry Collection by Hilton</a>.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4589-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20574" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4589-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4589-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4589-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4589-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4589-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4589-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4589-1350x1012.jpeg 1350w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_4589.jpeg 2016w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Photo: A first-class check-in experience with free bubbles at The Sound Hotel.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>The location was ideal – we were able to walk almost everywhere we went, and it cost about $50-$70 to the airport in a ride share. Rooms were surprisingly spacious, and the large bar and restaurant on the ground floor offered a sprawling lounge space with tons of comfortable seating for meeting up and planning our next moves.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2659-1024x768.jpeg" alt="" class="wp-image-20575" srcset="https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2659-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2659-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2659-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2659-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2659-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2659-100x75.jpeg 100w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2659-999x749.jpeg 999w, https://alaskatravelgram.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/IMG_2659-1350x1013.jpeg 1350w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>As we toasted farewell to our Seattle girls’ weekend, we were already talking about next time, which is always a sign of a great getaway – that even in your fatigue, facing the long flight home and the looming work week ahead, you’re inwardly plotting your next little escape with some of your dearest friends. Cheers, ladies!&nbsp;</p>

<p>Super-flyer Bart Parker was in the air this week (120,000 ATMOS points so far this year). Part of his journey included Honolulu-Seattle on&nbsp; one of <strong><a href="http://www.hawaiianairlines.com">Hawaiian Air</a></strong>&#8216;s 787&#8230;up-front in the lie-flat section.</p>

<p>&#8220;Titanium upgrades now are in effect on Hawaiian Airlines,&#8221; wrote Parker, from his perch in 2J. &#8220;Now that the upgrades work on Hawaiian, my grade (for the <strong><a href="http://www.atmosrewards.com">ATMOS </a></strong>program) goes from a B+ to an A-.&#8221;</p>

<p>The upgrade interoperability between Alaska Air and Hawaiian is part of the ongoing integration of the two carriers. Later this month, <strong><a href="https://www.alaskaair.com/content/travel-agent/agent-info/ticketing/pss-migration">Hawaiian will switch computer systems&#8211;from Amadeus to SABRE</a></strong>. It&#8217;s another big step towards a seamless travel experience when traveling to the South Pacific, for example&#8230;or, on inter-island flights.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bart reports there are 34 seats in the forward cabin&#8211;all lie-flat.&nbsp;He sent over a thousand photos&#8230;.I picked a few to share with the class.</p>

<p>Have you flown on the 787 up front? Send me a note with some photos. <strong><a href="mailto:Scott@alaskatravelgram.com">scott@alaskatravelgram.com&nbsp;</a></strong></p>
