Arctic sea ice, according to NASA scientists, is melting rapidly, with the Arctic ice cover progressively thinning. The latest satellite data show where perennial ice used to cover 50 percent to 60 percent of the Arctic. This year it covers less than 30 percent. Very old ice that remains in the Arctic for at least six years comprised more than 20 percent of the Arctic area in the mid-to-late 1980s, but this winter it decreased to only 6 percent.

By STEPHEN TAUFEN The annual ComFish trade show held here in Alaska's most diverse fisheries port offers an opportunity during election years for candidates to engage in the first major debate on the campaign trail. The famous Fish Debate, scheduled for Thursday evening (March 20, 2008) at the local high school auditorium is broadcast statewide. This year, absent a gubernatorial race, it will put the U.S. House candidates on the public firing line early, discussing one of the most contentious industries imaginable.

I want to sit down to rest but try to overcome my lack of energy to continue the game. My body aches from running seemingly forever.
