The charitable food distribution center now has two high speed cold storage doors, an Albany ThermaChill and ThermaFreeze.

This holiday season, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems donated a free Albany high speed door to Second Harvest in Washington. The charitable food distribution center now has two high speed cold storage doors, an Albany ThermaChill and an Albany ThermaFreeze.

With a network that spans 21 counties in Eastern Washington and five counties in North Idaho, Second Harvest helps feed more than 40,000 hungry people each week. The new cold storage doors will help make the entire operation more efficient. Tdhe doors were installed at Second Harvest’s new distribution center in Pasco, Washington. This new warehouse was built by volunteers in the construction industry, who donated 100% of the labor.

“Volunteers and suppliers, like Albany, donated or discounted material for the new cooler and freezer at the charitable food distribution center,” explains Jason Clark, president and CEO of Second Harvest. “The new doors are a significant contribution to the project, and to the overall functionality of the facility.”

The new Second Harvest warehouse in Pasco is 14,000 square feet in total, about three times as large as its former facility in the Tri-Cities area. The larger distribution center will make it possible to feed more hungry people.

Over the past decade, Second Harvest’s donated food inventory has become increasingly fresh, which provides nutritious choices for people in need. The new warehouse in Pasco distributes more than 1.8 million pounds of fresh produce and other wholesome perishable products annually. “The cooler and freezer in Pasco are all new,” says Clark. “There is approximately 4,000 square feet of space divided evenly between cooler and freezer.”

The Albany ThermaChill and ThermaFreeze help maximize workflow, while protecting cold storage areas. The insulated door panel material controls the environment and prevents moisture build up. Plus, the doors can open at speeds of up to 130″ per second for optimal efficiency.

At the Second Harvest warehouse in Pasco, the Albany cold storage doors are located adjacent to the loading docks. “The automated doors will make it extremely easy for the staff to quickly move donated food off of trucks and directly to the cooler or freezer,” says Clark. “About 60 percent of Second Harvest’s donated food is perishable and the majority of the donated food handled by our organization will pass through the cold storage space. Further, the automated doors will help us conserve energy and maintain the proper temperature in the cold storage areas.”

“We at ASSA ABLOY pride ourselves in being good corporate citizens and Second Harvest is a great organization to partner with,” says Cory Strunk, marketing manager for the Albany product brand. “We are delighted our products are now an integral part of the Second Harvest organization.”

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems introduces combined offering...

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems (AAES), a division within ASSA ABLOY, is a leading supplier of entrance automation for the efficient flow of goods and people. We offer complete pedestrian, industrial and high-performance door solutions dedicated to satisfying end-user needs for safe, secure, convenient and sustainable operations.

For the mining industry, AAES offers a range of strong solutions from two product brands: Albany, the world’s leader in high performance door solutions and Megadoor, designed for commercial buildings, tough environments and very large openings. AAES brings together industry-leading technologies from both Albany and Megadoor to meet the demanding door requirements of the mining industry. From truck shops, wash bays and maintenance facilities to loading docks and parking garages, AAES can provide entrance solutions for all applications.

Megadoor’s vertical lifting fabric door is designed to withstand extreme temperatures, high wind conditions, dirt, sand and grit. It features a flexible design, which means there are no practical limits to the size and configuration. The door can be designed around an existing crane and crane rails for rapid and reliable operation, and can be customized to meet a wide variety of demands. Plus, the Megadoor can be built with a translucent fabric that will let in natural light to create a better working environment.

Albany’s high performance rubber door features a ¼” thick rubber panel, heavy-duty steel side frames and a patented, Windlok guide system. Combined, these features provide resiliency against damage, extreme conditions and high wind loads of up to 88mph. Plus Albany’s rubber door can take a hit. The curtain and break away bottom beam is designed to withstand accidental impact and remain operational. With a minimum of moving parts, it is the only door of it’s size that can be repaired in minutes without special tools.

Both Megadoor and Albany put safety first. The Megadoor is designed with patented safety arrestors which prevent a “fee-fall” condition in the event the lifting mechanisms fail. Sophisticated controls and sensors protect the Megadoor and continuously monitor the opening.

Albany’s rubber door has through beam photo eyes that detect objects in the doorway and safely opens the door before contact, as well as a fail-safe electric bottom edge – with any slight contact, the door will automatically reverse to the open position. Albany’s TruckGuard safety system provides a full six-foot high curtain of continuous, protective photo beams on both sides of the door.

Megadoor and Albany design industrial doors that will provide a lifetime of strength and reliability. Our reliable entrance solutions are recognized for their low cost of ownership throughout the lifetime of the door.

We are proud to combine our extensive knowledge on automated entrance solutions to the mining industry. Both brands have effectively served the mining industry for years. We know what is needed in rugged mining conditions: Doors that provide safe and reliable operation, airtight seals and are fast and resilient.

For a limited time, all ThermaChill and ThermaFreeze doors will include the smart, new Remote Monitoring technology.

Albany is excited to announce that, for a limited time, all ThermaChill and ThermaFreeze doors will include the smart, new Remote Monitoring technology. This unique system allows you to monitor your cold storage door at any time, and from anywhere.

We understand how important it is to maintain proper temperatures in cold storage environments. Albany doors are designed to protect products, and we’re doing that with every innovation possible.

If a door is left in the open position, cold air leaves. Cold air is expensive. In humidity controlled environments, it’s not just the cost of cold air that is a factor. The wrong humidity can cause product loss or damage. Remote Monitoring can preempt and prevent such disastrous situations. This system allows users to conveniently monitor all Albany doors at a facility, from a remote location, saving both time and tremendous amounts of money.

Albany’s insulated ThermaChill door is a favorite in the industry. The ThermaChill reduces energy costs and increases productivity with fast opening speeds of up to 130” per second. Albany’s ThermaFreeze door can be equipped with our UltraDefrost System and heated side frames to protect against extreme humidity and prevent ice build-up.

When you order a ThermaChill or ThermaFreeze door today, you will also receive a free six-month trial of the Remote Monitoring service. You will be able to monitor your door’s performance on the web or on your cell phone. You can receive updates and alerts on the status of the door via email or text messages.

Our Remote Monitoring system is powered and controlled by the performance-enhancing MCC door controller. The user-friendly web interface for the Remote Monitoring system allows high speed door users to identify if a door is blocked, has malfunctioned or if someone is tampering with or impacting the door. This is a system that provides increased security and increased protection for your products, and your bottom line. Save time, save energy and save costs with Albany’s industry-leading Remote Monitoring system.

High speed doors are the focus of a recent article in The Construction Specifier magazine.

High speed doors are the focus of a recent article in The Construction Specifier magazine. The article explains how high speed doors can help buildings conserve energy and potentially earn LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. Photos of Albany’s UltraSecure 3000 high speed metal door, ThermaFreeze cold storage door, and UltraTough M&I rubber door are featured throughout the article.

The article details how much energy can be saved when industrial facilities install high speed doors in place of traditional or rolling metal doors.

“The U.S. building sector alone ate up eight percent of global primary energy consumption in 2008. At this time, total building energy consumption in the United States was almost 50 percent higher than consumption in 1980.1 These, and previous, similar findings have led to various research, design, policy, and regulatory initiatives. LEED seeks to bring together all the involved factors to lower the overall footprint of the building sector. Industrial businesses, which often run large, energy-hungry facilities are taking note, and recognizing the benefits of programs like LEED. While there are many ways to lower energy costs, specifying high-speed doors for interior and exterior applications can easily reduce energy consumption in industrial facilities” -Excerpt from High Speed for LEED

The article also explains just how high speed doors fit into particular LEED categories, and can potentially earn points for LEED certification.

“High-speed doors can help a project qualify for recognition in LEED’s Energy and Atmosphere (EA) category. They contribute Credit 2, Minimum Energy Performance, and Credit 1, Optimize Energy Performance. Within the Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ) category, high speed doors may earn points for:

-Credit 1, Minimum Indoor Air Quality Performance

-Credit 5, Indoor Chemical and Pollutant Source Control; and

-Credit 8, Daylight and Views” -Excerpt from High Speed for LEED

Albany Door Systems is excited to announce The Door Company as a new high speed door dealer. The Door...

Lawrenceville, Ga., November 2011 – Albany Door Systems is excited to announce The Door Company as a new high speed door dealer. The Door Company became an Albany dealer in September. They have been through many changes in the last year and a half. The new owner of The Door Company, Greg Bell, has implemented “new management methods, new tools and is bringing forth the best in everyone,” says David Pike, Albany’s regional business manager.

Bell was recognized by the Ottawa Business Journal with a “Top Forty Under Forty” award in 2010. Prior to entering the door business, Bell co-founded Lumenera, a leading developer and manufacturer of high performance digital cameras.

“Doors are new to me, but business principles and leadership are the same no matter the product,” explains Bell. “The Door Company is a local business with a solid 32 year history, and many successes. I saw opportunity to expand the business in multiple directions and territories. Our growth plans include a broader product offering and geographic stretch across the province of Ontario. We have nearly doubled our staff in the last year to ensure we continue offering the world class support we have built our reputation on. We’ve re-engaged with wholesale and commercial customers, and have added efforts towards direct-to-retail customers.”

Greg was able to view Albany’s UltraSecure 3000 roll up door at the IDA (International Door Association) Exposition in Indianapolis, Indiana. “The Door Company was on the lookout for a serious supplier of high performance doors,” says Pike. “Their attention was always focused on Albany Door Systems.”

Bell was very impressed with Albany’s display of high speed commercial doors at the IDA show. “Albany is a perfect model of the supplier partnership we were looking for,” says Bell. “A recognized brand; high quality product; broad offering; quick response; factory training and preemptive sales and marketing support.”

David Pike and Greg Bell analyzed the benefits of working together. “We mutually decided that it was the right time for a strategic alliance,” says Pike.

“We have customers seeking solutions for difficult needs,” explains Bell. “We knew we would need expert advice, and quick turn on pricing and delivery. David Pike and the technical experts at the factory have lived up to every bit of our needs and expectations.”

Albany has already shipped four of the brand new UltraSecure 3000 FV doors for The Door Company; they were installed last month. This is just one of the many high performance door options Bell can now offer his customers.

“I am confident about our success with Albany,” says Bell. “Our initiatives for growth are well aligned in the region. We are off to a great start with recent sales and servicing, and we look forward to a long partnership.”

Albany Demonstrates High Performance, High Speed Cold Storage Doors at the 2011 National Beer Wholesalers Association Convention and Trade Show

Albany Door Systems cordially invite you to preview the latest in high speed door technology. Visit booth 801 in the Octavius Ballroom at the National Beer Wholesalers Association Convention and Trade Show, Oct 16-19 at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada

We invite you to stop by booth 801 and view Albany’s UltraFast and ThermaChill high speed doors. The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) convention and trade show will be attended by beer distributors, brewers, and vendors, delivering great networking opportunities.

Starting with an entertaining welcome reception, the NBWA convention will include an impressive line-up of speakers and a range of educational seminars, from “The Demographics of Imported Beer” to sessions offering business analysis, legal insight and sales leadership skills. The trade show will feature new brewers, new products and innovative technology.

Albany will be demonstrating the cost saving UltraFast fabric door and the climate-controlling ThermChill insulated door at the trade show. These two doors are part of a full line of Albany products for cold storage, food manufacturing, distribution and warehousing.

The UltraFast high speed door offers the option of opening speeds of up to 100″ per second, increasing both productivity and safety with features such as a 6-foot high light curtain that can sense any interruption and automatically reverse the door to the open position.

The ThermaChill and ThermaFreeze doors reduce energy loss by maintaining cold storage environments without compromising product quality. These doors have climatex insulated panel material, which maintains climate control even with temperature variances between 32° F and more than 45° F. Come see the excellent weather seal and space-saving, low-profile side frames on two of the best cold storage doors in the industry.

The UltraCool and UltraFreeze doors both have opening speeds of up to 100″ per second as well as enhanced energy-saving features, such as the unmatched BacSeal Weather Seal – a double seal along the header and on the side frames for reliable stability in fluctuating temperatures.

The UltraFast, ThermaChill, ThermaFreeze, UltraCool and UltraFreeze each feature the new MCC VectorControl controller, which makes operation and troubleshooting incredibly easy. Stop by booth 801 at this year’s NBWA convention and trade show to experience the high performance and high speeds of Albany’s industrial doors.

Lawrenceville, Ga., October 2011 – Albany Door Systems is pleased to announce that Larry Flynn has been promoted to lead both the Technical Support and Aftermarket Parts Departments.

Flynn has proven himself an incredibly effective manager of the aftermarket parts group. He has increased the accuracy of order taking, decreased response time and he continues to maintain on-time shipping numbers above 95%. The expertise he has gained while managing the aftermarket parts team will be applied to his new position leading the technical support group.

“I’m very excited to help the technical support department become number one in customer service in the high speed door industry,” says Flynn.

During his time as the interim manager of technical support, Flynn created systems and processes to measure call volume and improve response time. He also provided the customer support group and the sales team with valuable tools to more effectively communicate with the door dealers about the performance of Albany’s technical support team.

“Larry has a commitment to organization and discipline,” says general manager Craig Jones. “He has brought a level of calm and direction to the group that is required for such an important component of customer satisfaction and product confidence.”
