ASSA will be holding its annual Trash or Treasure street sale on Saturday 10th May. All residents of Albert Square, Aldebert Terrace, St Stephen’s Terrace and Wilkinson Street are invited to set up a stall outside their homes and sell toys, clothes, books, DVDs, furniture, plants – pretty much anything. It is a great chance to clear out unwanted items and meet your neighbours. Everyone from the wider local area is very welcome to come and pick up a bargain, promote recycling and reduce waste.

If you live in the ASSA area and want to take part, simply setup your stall from 10.30am. Please make sure that you keep space clear around your stall so that people can safely pass by on the pavement without having to step into the road. It is also important that no food is sold as part of the event.

You will be delighted to hear that Shakespeare in the Squares is returning to Albert Square this summer, with a production of The Taming of the Shrew. This is Shakespeare’s comedy battle of wits, wills and wild romance complete with toe-tapping pop classics.

The production will take place on Thursday, 19th June, 7pm, with the Square open for picnics from 5.30pm.

Better still, for the organised, there is an early bird discount if you buy your tickets before 26th February.

The Annual General Meeting of the Albert Square and St Stephen’s Association will take place on Wednesday 2nd October with drinks from 7.15pm and the meeting starting at 7.45pm in St Stephen’s Church on St Stephen’s Terrace. The AGM is a great opportunity to find out what has been happening in our local area over the past year, meet your neighbours, and to get involved in ASSA over the coming year. At the meeting, a committee will be elected to run ASSA for the next year. 

All local residents living on Albert Square, Aldebert Terrace, St Stephen’s Terrace and Wilkinson Street are very welcome.

At the meeting, an update ASSA Constitution will be proposed for adoption. You can read the proposed new constitution here:

ASSA is holding a Freshview event, when we will tidy the flowerbeds and pavements in the ASSA area. Please join us if you can – even just for half an hour. We will meet at the junction of Aldebert Terrace and St Stephen’s Terrace from 10am onwards and expect to be working mainly between that junction and St Stephen’s Church throughout the morning. We are also encouraging neighbours to weed the pavements outside their own homes if they can’t join the event.
