According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, American people over fifteen years old spend about 2.8 hours per day watching television. During that time, viewers watch countless of commercials. Despite that this ads do not affect to everyone; each one of us is prompt to become a “sucker” to advertisement sometime in our life. Companies across the country spend annually billions of dollars in creating, running, testing, and measuring commercial effectiveness. Most American businesses utilize several advertising techniques to manipulate consumers to remember, desire and purchase their products and services.

One effective way to draw the viewers’ interest and desire about certain product or service would be appealing to logic and reputation (logos & ethos). For example, Chase bank and Audi Automobile company would get the people interest because their well -known prestige in the American market. According to the Audi of America News Channel, the selling of this spectacular automobile increased 11.9% or 14.616 units in July 2014. This is the 43rd consecutive month of record of U.S. sales for the brand. Audi automobile is a highly desired car by American people because the experience of many consumers. We can see Audi make on United State streets every single day. The cars are luxurious, attractive, and competitive as well. This company uses high technology to build gas efficiency, durable, and comforting cars.

Other companies such Chase uses similar strategies like the example above. Chase bank is an American financial business recognized and served by millions of American households. This corporation has obvious presence across the country, therefore, commercials using its brand name would attract the interest and trust of many prospects. Commonly, Chase banks is strategically located near to financial institution buildings around the city because of competition. Hence, when we watch advertisements concerned Chase bank services, it is easy to deduce that they are alike to most bank corporations out there. But most importantly, it provides a sense of status quo and reliability, and other logical inferences. Both commercial would transfer credibility to the targeted consumers. However, logic is not always a determinant to human purchase decision.

Appeal to emotion (pathos) is another strategy that commercials companies opt to make the viewers long for their services and products. Colors would be a key element used in commercial to make the consumer act in relation to the expected response. According to Salem Printing studies about 85% of shoppers place color as a primary reason for why the buy a particular product. For example, State Farm Insurance Company used an advertisement where a red State Farm insurance booklet (revised by two individuals) and a red window canopy in the background with a white State Farm Logo were key object of attention. Because red is a very highly visible color (longer wavelength), it is used to attract people attention. Colors awake human emotions such as love and passion. Therefore, an insurance company to influence in people emotion and sell their service deliberately uses colored ads. This strategy can be reinforced through other psychological tactics.

Another method used by company to sell their product and services would be by using patriotic song (pathos). Coca-Cola commercial indirectly presented its product accompanied by the America is Beautiful song. In this commercial America is Beautiful song was sang accompanied by a Coca-Cola logo background. This is a clear message that all people in America have the right and opportunity to taste this American product. Also, the message make the people think that if they are American they must drink a Coca-Cola beverage to ratify their nationality and a sense of greatness. Indeed emotion play a great deal in people purchase decisions and commercial companies are very aware of it.

Because the average amount of time American spend watching television and commercials, target consumers may long for the products and services announced sometime ahead. Commercial strategists do profound study to make their advertisement very effective on people buying decisions. With the use of sophisticated knowledge about human being behavior, they obtain the expected result. As I explained above, there are some techniques to draw the viewers’ attention and behavior, and prompt them to act. Additionally, no in vein huge powerful companies spend millions of dollar in just commercials. Indeed, investing on making commercials is an effective strategy that companies such as Audi, Chase, State Farm, and Coca-Cola use to increase sales of their respective products and services.

A major in accounting provides chances for the new graduate to choose from a variety of job positions such as bookkeeper, finance and marketer analyst, or human resource specialist. Talented business people should be acquainted with accounting in order to succeed in many entrepreneurial areas. Nowadays, professional accountants broaden their vision in an unlimited horizon of new opportunities. In addition, they have become the mentors, leaders and even owners of their own business.

All companies, no matter their size, require the knowledge and services of accountants – it means no shortage of work. Accounting is the language of business, and knowing it increases the chances of becoming a valuable resource for companies. Not only accountants is necessary for working in the accounting field but also in many other business areas. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, an individual can become a public accountant who provides auditing, tax and consulting services to businesses and can either work for a private firm, governmental institution, and even for themselves.

The chance of getting a job after graduating with an accounting degree is favorable because of its considerable high demand. The increases in demand for accountants from all industries is mainly driven by the current regulatory environment which requires every company (especially publicly traded companies) to have an efficient and suitable staffed accounting department in place. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, plenty of companies across the country are looking for accountants, particularly those in the oil, gas, manufacturing, healthcare and hospitality fields. In addition, small or large business employers appreciate accountants so that their work is indelibly necessary for them.

Experts in accounting look at promising future on business valuation. Based on an article published by the National Society of Public Accountants, accountants that are interested in expanding their practices beyond those traditional bastions of practice received considerable attention for business valuation in a larger category of the New Finance (Bhattacharya and Braun). Therefore, accountants view business valuation as an alternative source of income. Indeed, accountants’ salaries skyrocket due to training and certification on many kind of business, institutions and organizations that provide good and services.

Accounting opportunities in a globalized economy

In a globalized economy, accountants have tremendous chance of increasing their profits. Accountants can be the center of trading businesses, both local and outside of United States. For example, North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) offers great opportunities for professionals of America and other countries in the accounting industry. Therefore, those with expertise in international trade are prone to be in demand due to the increasing globalization of businesses. The worn out 1980’s term “Networking” has practical procedure in a globalized industry that provides accountants new job opportunities and profits. Because of the development of Dotcom era, accountants play a key role in an international market in preparing budgets, bookkeeping and other business operations. If accountants decide to become business owners, the probability of increasing their profits in foreign market are substantially abundant because of their expertise. Indeed, accountants have considerable opportunities in a globalized economy, and undeniably may gain substantial earnings because of efficient business operations.

Accountants as a Self Employer

Those accountants who prefer to work as self-employer can get excellent benefits. For example, a profitable accounting business is possible from home with little inversion and minimal overhead costs. Financial accountants can take advantage on the flexibility of their working hours, and have the chance to spend more time with the family. They, also, can manage their business financial operations efficiently, such as expenses and income taxes, while enjoying the benefits of being their own boss. Therefore, accountants are able to do many tasks by themselves. They do not need to trust entirely their livelihood, investments and hard-earned income to someone with comparable expertise. Additionally, accountants take every precaution to maximize their wealth. They make investments, purchases, and business decisions to increase their profits and minimize the income tax of personal or family business because accountants completely understand the tax ramification of all personal and business expenditures. Those accountants who decide to carry out their own business can obtain considerable savings and earnings by taking advantage of their own knowledge.

Conclusion

Individuals who want to consider a career that provides lot of job opportunities, flexibility and a secure income then an accounting degree is the way to go. Now more than ever, certified accountants with proper training are in demand in many sectors that provides goods and services. Also, the future looks promising for accounting experts because accountants becomes mentors and assessor of small and large firms in America and around the globe. American accountants not only have chances to work and increase their profitable income in the country but also in new promising foreign industries because of globalization. In addition, accountants who prefer to get rid of overhead costs and schedule rigidity can undergo in their own business. Accounting major degree guarantee a profitable future for those who have special training or valid certificate in the field of accounting, but foremost a well-respected individual in the world of business.

African Tribal Roots in Cuba

Have you ever been in an Afro-Cuban Bembe party? What is its main purpose? Where does this came from? Personally, I have been in this kind of cult in Cuba, but also this kind of ritual has been spread to other countries such as Haiti, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Republic Dominican and The United States. This cult was first practiced by black people; however, nowadays this cult is performed by not only by black individuals but also by whites. Their amazing movements combined with attire and domestic items provide a mere idea of its ritual meaning. Dancing is accompanied by all kinds of movement, percussive sounds and rhythm makes a unique form of worship to the Orichas or African gods as they are called. The Bembe is a cult inherited from ancient African where the performers invite and impersonate the Saints’ spirits through dancing.

Afro-Cuban Bembe party is a cult inherited from several African cultures. The beginning of slaves’ transportation from various parts of Africa to Cuba set the Afro-Cuban religious dance basis in the Caribbean Island. Many of these religious dances came from culture lucumies of Western Nigeria Yoruba culture while others came from the West of sub-Saharan Africa Bantu culture comprising part of territories of republic of Congo, Zaire and Angola and Equatorial Guinea. These cultures have their own particular religious dance styles, for example; the Abakua‘s religious dance is inherited from the Bantu Culture while the Santeros or Rule of Ocha is from the Yoruba Culture. (Elosegui 2013) Many ancient tribes comprised all of these cultures across the African continent. Dancing is a common denominator of worship of Afro-Cuban ceremonies.

Through a Bembe party the priests invite the Saints’ spirits to take possession of their bodies. This is possible by the confluence of songs, rhythm, color and motion which calls the Saints to recognize himself in this ritual context. Through this form of adoration the Orichas are praised, greeted and implored to take possession of the performers’ bodies or possession through the trance. A possession trance cults get their climax through a kind of ecstatic dance. Both women and men perform this type of cults. After they convoke the spirits, their bodies are taken over by the Orichas. Then, the person in a trance performs dance motions which imitate the Orichas spirits. After they are awaken from this kind of abduction, however, they do not recall what happened or what they really did when the Orichas spirits took over their bodies. (Cass 11)

In the Bembe cults the priests impersonate the Orichas gestures through dance movements. The movements are both rhythmic and mimetic; they have to be synchronized to the drum sound and the characteristic Orichas gestures. The movements reveal the saints itself, for example; Yemaya simulates the movement of waves; Ogoun, move his hands with a machete and Oshun represents the way in which she get dressed to the hand mirror. Chango, the Saint of fire, lighting and virility makes action with arms that simulates lightning falling from the sky. His style of dance is very masculine. (Murphy 2012) On the other side, Oshum is the Oricha of sensuality, love and sweet waters. Her dance is cheerful and carefree; she shakes her head to both shoulders. Also she simulates bathing in the river. Her style of dancing is very feminine. Dancing through pantomime, sudden gestures, jumps, twists, turns, erotic pelvis thrusts and waist and others movements characterized by the tribal African dancers.

Indeed the Afro-Cuban Bembe is a cult inherited by many African descendants in Cuba. These were performed by many African tribes spread all over of West Nigeria and Africa central and then practiced in many American countries, due to, the black slave transportations. Through this kind of cult the performers convoke the Saints spirits to take over their bodies. Through a possession trance the priest or performer reaches the climax state; it becomes an ecstatic dance. The movements itself have religious meaning which simulate the ancestral African saints. The performers impersonate the Orichas movement and gestures by either in trance possession or free states. This form of art is much better understood if it is witness personally. It certainly makes you feel little excited and impressed by the priests’ performances.

Have you ever been in an Afro-Cuban Bembe? What do you think happen in a religious party? What is the relation of dancing movement with Saints or Orichas? Or what is the meaning of a drum’s sound? To whom the religious party is intended to? Why? Did you ever ask yourself how many modern dancing style has black root? All of this question can be answered if we make an imaginary travel from the African’s ancestral culture to the present. However, nowadays this ritual has spread toward many other countries such as Haiti, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Republic Dominican and Cuba. Also it is practiced not only by black people but also by whites and so on. Their amazing movements combined with attire and domestic items provide a mere idea of its ritual meaning. Dancing accompanied by all kind of movement, percussive sounds and rhythm make an unique form of worship to the Orichas.

Afro-Cuban dance movements identify African ancestral Saints through its particular movements. The Bembe is a kind of ritual party where dancing becomes a prayer to the Orichas. Therefore, it is executed in the religious context. All the amazing movements are associated to the Saints for thousands years ago. It was originated in Africa by natives as a way to worship their Orichas. The movements reveal the Saints itself. The sensual movements of the pelvis, genitals and tongue represents Chango; the Saint of fire, lighting and virility. Also it makes action with arms that simulates lightning falling from the sky. His style of dance is very masculine. On the other side, Oshum is the Oricha of sensuality, love and sweet waters. Her dance is cheerful and carefree; she shakes her head to both shoulders. She uses a fan, displays her golden pulses and simulates bathing in the river. She is very flirtatious and goes for the conquest of the male Gods. Her style of dancing is very feminine. Babalu Aye is the Oricha of diseases. His dance is executed dragging its feet and feigning contortions of pain. His head leans toward the chest and based his balance on crutches under each arm. His movements are clumsy and reflect tiredness and suffering. These styles of dancing represents African Saints are accompanied by lyrics and rhythm. It is dance through pantomime, sudden gestures, jumps, twists, turns, erotic pelvis thrusts and waist and others movements characterized by the Congo dances.

The Bembe is ritual party to worship the Orichas through lyrics, rhythms and dance. Through this form of adoration the Saints are praised, greeted and implored to take possession of the priest body (possession through the trance). If the Saint decides to use the present priest body for a while, it is a motive of great joy. This is possible by the confluence of songs, rhythm, color and motion which calls the Oricha to recognize him-self in this ritual context. By this way the Oricha is pleaded for his presence and bless the priests with his advice and path cleaning. In order to succeed in communicate effectively to the Saints; the drummers must practice assiduously for years to master the difficult beats of the drums. Because the drums really speak to the Orichas in a tonal Yoruba language, the drums must be tuned correctly. Therefore, as the rhythms come from the drums, each Orichas has its own dance. For example: Yemaya simulates the movement of waves; Ogoun move his hands with a machete and Oshun represents the way in which she get dressed to the hand mirror. All the ritual movements are considered a dance prayer.

Afro-Cuban religious dance have been influenced by several African culture. Dancing is a common denominator of worship among these African cultures.

Indeed Cuba dancing styles has its own African roots. It combines religious rites with holidays. The movements itself has a religious meaning which simulates the ancestral African saints. Additionally, we find all these African dancing styles in the contemporary modern dance styles such as salsa, cha-cha-cha, rumba or son. Also, the rhythms of many percussion instruments are conveyed to modern musical composition. The confluence of movement and rhythms of several African cultures in Cuba made possible a revolution in the Cuban dancing and musical genres. Nowadays people around the world enjoy part of the African cultural roots without consciously know its origin.

A Time To Kill (Appealing to Justice)

A time to kill is a film based on a novel released in 1989 by the writer John Grisham. The story is set in Canton, Mississippi. The films projects shocking and disturbing scenes against an innocent little black girl by two vicious white men. The innocent child died as consequence of the horrendous criminal act. The child’s father, Carl Lee Hailey became distracted, sad, furious, impotent and outraged. He asked a recent graduated lawyer to represent him. The lawyer agreed to support Carl Lee and advised him not to do “something stupid”. However, the lawyer expressed him what he would do as consequence of such outrageous act against his own daughter. Carl Lee determined to make justice by his own arms and killed the two men with a rifle. Carl Lee was taken to trial by a segregated court justice after he revenged his innocent daughter.

Representing Carl in a segregated society was not an easy task. There were always white people who stepped out and supported the black people cause. In the film, a valorous young man, named Jake Brigance, represent an example of those white men who supported the black people cause in past segregated times. He was willing to represent his friend until the end despite of the hostile prejudices against the black class. During the trial, lots of threaten and criminal actions were carried out against the black community and those white people who supported the judicial case of Carl Lee. The defendant’s lawyer was shot, intimidated and threatened to death because his support to Carl. In general, it was a time that those individuals who supported the black man judicial case were considered enemies. Then, violent acts continued such as burning crosses, confrontations, seizing and murdering people were actions carried by a mob named Ku Klux Klan composed by white supremacists. The evident inequality of those time was represented in this movie, it transmitted us the necessity of validating the Civil Right act for everyone in this land.

The justice system of Clanton had bias in their political ideologies in detriment of black community. Despite the horrendous and outrageous act committed by two white men, the justice system leant in favor of white people. This was clear when the young lawyer Jake Brigance expressed to Carl Lee the possibility that the rapists would walks free because he knew about the political thinking of those times. After Carl decided to revenge his daughter, he was prosecuted by a corrupted district attorney named Rufus Buckley of the Ford County. The judge presiding over Carl Lee’s trial refused Jake’s request for a change of venue despite that the Ford County were composed by an all-white jury. Carl was trapped in a judicial system that was greatly swayed by racism. The justice system in this county projected a supremacist white ideology in favor of white class dominant in the region.

The state of Mississippi was evidently segregated. There were hatred against the black community all over the state. It can be perceived since the beginning of the movies until the end of the footage. The outrageous and horrendous crime committed against a ten-year-old black girl was one of the many criminal act that the black community suffered in the Southern state. The unfair representation of a segregated justice system was another form of latent and evident crimes upon African-American individuals. Intimidation and violent acts make clear the hatred behavior of white supremacists. White faction with sick politic ideology intimidated the judge Omar Noose. Then he denied the petition made from Jake for changing the location of the trial despite of knowing that a white jury integrated Ford County. Secretary’s husband of Jake was killed and she was tied at a stake and the house of Jake Brigance was burned by KKK mob composed by white men. Threaten by shooting and bombing, the young lawyer remained fighting against the unfair justice system and won the case of Carl Lee. All somewhat horrendous activities were carried out to destroy and debilitate the fair support that Carl deserved by true justice.

A time to kill film depicts the particular attitude of the southerners during former times. Through the victorious trial in favor of Carl Lee, Southerners were described as intransigent people who fought for their rights and got victorious battles over slavery and civil rights. In addition, it represents the traditional spirit, courage and strength that characterizes the south black community in the past. Through ordeal experience, threaten, intimidation, suffering and battles, the southerners conquered their freedom as this film portrayed through the fair triumph of Carl Lee. However, the movies still apply today. It encourages fighting for our rights and demanding for it. There were always a ray of hope to those who fight for justice and the case presented in the film is an example of this. Stand for righteousness, stand for justice, and God will exercise forever.

Thesis Statement: We should support gun control laws because the fact that guns are weapons of violence and many innocent American lives are taken away every single day.

Introduction

How many of you think guns are necessary? Are you indifferent every time you hear about the innocent people lives taken away as consequence of gun violence? What would be your stance about gun control law if your loved ones were victims of firearms crimes? Magazines and newspapers usually transmit us the idea of how beautiful and powerful guns are, but not how dangerous and alarming they may become because of its misuse. Today, I want to ask you guys to support right gun control laws because the fact that guns are weapons of violence and many innocent American lives are taken away every single day.

A. Having guns around the house increases the chance of gun-related issue.

1. People with guns who have unstable feelings may commit suicide.

a. According to a report from The Boston Globe, with high levels of gun ownership increase suicide rates almost twice as much as those with lower ownership levels.

b. People who committed suicide were found to be seventeen times more likely to have gun at home than not.

2. Individuals may use guns erroneously or deliberately at home and put other inhabitant in danger.

b. Also, according to The Democratic Hub report, the medalist Oscar Pistorius reportedly shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in his home early Thursday (Valentine’s Day) in the morning after mistaking her for an intruder.

c. According to abc News, on January 21, 2013 a Lieutenant ,Hans Walters, with more than twenty years on the force shot his wife, (a retired officer), named Kathryn and their five years old son (each one on the head) and then commit suicide.

B. Guns pose a high risk for American Children and teens.

1. Thousands of children die by gunfire each year.

a. The Children’s Defense Fund claims that 7 children and teens from 0-19 years old die every day due to gun fire.

According to the (FBI) Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Uniform Crime Report shows that murders committed by people under the age of eighteen who were arrested jumped from 1193 in 1985 to 2982 in 1994. The report shows a substantial increase in the number of killings by people who are under age of eighteen.

c. A study led by Matthew Miller found that in states where more guns are available, children are more likely to be victims of firearm-related deaths

2. American children and teens of ages between 0-19 years old are 17 times more likely to die from a gun than in 25 other developing countries combined.

a. According to Children’s Defense Fund, in 2010, children and teen gun related death rates in the U. S. were over 4 times higher than in Canada which has the second highest rates, 7 times higher than in Israel, and nearly 65 times higher than in the United Kingdom.

b. According to NEA Health Information Network, in one year, firearms killed no children in Japan, 19 in Great Britain, 57 in Germany, 109 in France, 153 in Canada, and 5285 in the United States. c. U.S. Children and teens were 32 times more likely to die from gun homicide and 10 times more likely to die from a gun suicide or accident than in other high income nations.

C. Banning the use of firearms will saves lives.

1. The conservative Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, launched an aggressive clamp-down on gun ownership.

a. There was a 59 % drop in Australian gun related homicides while non-firearm related homicides stayed level during the first decades.

b. Additionally, mass shooting went all the way from 11 to zero in a decade (1986-96)

Conclusion

Owning a gun is not necessary for living in peace but more susceptible to danger. Your life and your loved ones could be taken accidentally or deliberately due to a rash action. The lives of children and innocent people would be safer without guns in our home. Accountants has the chance to work for the government if he or she prefers. In this sector they specializes in monitoring the distribution of funds. The chances of getting a job after graduating in accounting career is close to a hundred percent probable.

Many opportunities come in an always expanding and volatile market and the advice of the accountants are very crucial for a sustainable economy. Those who are interested in expanding their practices look beyond the traditional bastion of practice tax and audit practice and exercise their view. Experts in accounting stare at promising future on business valuation which has received considerable attention recently for many business experts and falls under the larger category of “New Finance.” Therefore, accountants view business valuation as an alternative source of income. They are perceived by business owners to know and understand his/her clients business so that accountants are considered as independent and objective advisors in profitable corporations. Each time small and enormous companies become more and more dependable of professional accounting. In a globalized economy accountants have tremendous chance of extends their profits. Accountants can be at a center of trading business going both in and out of United States. For example; North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) offer great opportunities for professionals of America and other countries in the accounting industry.
