Im Grunde trage ich die Idee schon seit Anfang des Jahres mit mir herum und so langsam wird es ernst. Ich möchte eine Podcast Serie über den Mainzer Medienunternehmer Gutenberg und die von ihm ausgelöste Revolution machen. (Weil ich jetzt schon ein paar mal gefragt wurde, ich meine den Mainzer Buchdrucker und nicht den doppel T Plagiator) Danach werde ich mich auch auf die Suche nach der aktuellen Medienrevolution machen und versuche die Gutenbergs von 2012 zu interviewen.

Dieses Projekt würde ich gerne zu einem Teil über Crowdfunding finanzieren, aber bevor ich da den virtuellen Hut herum geben kann, brauche ich eure Hilfe. Ich brauche 25 Fans und würde diese gerne erreichen ohne das Projekt an die große Glocke zu hängen (Die will ich erst läuten, wenns ums Geld geht.)

Democracy is a dictatorship of the mass

I have my problems with democracy, because I’m a free mind and my personal freedom is often limited by laws. I think some laws are really important, like you can’t kill someone and I think there should be a force to prevent that from happening, but why can the majority decide who is allowed to allocate resources? Who owns the land? And why is there no place to leave this system. There are so many rules, that have nothing to do with our nature. You should have the chance to have a life without any interaction with the government, as long as you do not hurt someone else.

I think we ask the wrong questions. We should discuss about this topics instead of politics. We have to find more effective ways of organization and provide opportunities for everyone instead of forcing minorities to deal with it.

If you are born in Germany this days you already owe 25,000€ to someone else! This is great for the majority, because people younger then 18 don’t have a voice in the democratic process. An other question is: How to use oil. This is a Jackpot for humanity, but if we have used this boost of energy, the young have to deal with it.

I like to decide on my own

Democracy was useful when we couldn’t meet everyone on a daily base, but this is possible today. Why can’t I decide on my own? Just log in to Bundestag and check “YES” or “NO”. And if I don’t want to make a decision I can pass my vote to someone I trust? We should although discuss on which topics we have to make decision on what scale. And we need some basic rights for everyone like some place to go, basic health, water and food.

Every bird has more rights than most human.

I was at the re:publica at Berlin and it was the second time for me after 2010, but both events are hard to compare. The good thing about the new location was there was enough place for all the visitors. At some session I had to stand but thats ok. But I felt lost between so many people. Although the first sessions I attended were some kind of boring, but it got better. I started to switch sessions and found a lot of interesting ideas and opinions.

Act!on

I arrived at Berlin on Mai 1st, it’s a holiday in Germany, we call it “Day of Work” and it was amazing how the city had changed. I was in Berlin on May 1st 2003 and have seen riots, flying stones and burning cars. This was the a problem in Berlin for years. But this year I walked through the same streets and there where stages with Bands and DJs. I don´t know how many there where but I can remember six. But we just went some streets. Berlin was dancing on the streets till 1am and the bass was moving.

This had nothing to do with the re:publica, but it was most of the action I found. ACTA, SOPA, Popel, BLABLA. To much politics but no real action. The so called Netactivist just write nice E-Mails, I hoped for some more action, how about a new OS for our society or at least a gamechanging platform to combine our power?

TED lag

I have a TED lag from TEDxSummit. Most of the TEDxOrganizers i met there are action focused and the Talks where world class. But stop complaining, the only way to handle this problem to spread some of this spirit and I will figure out how.

I wanted to make this presentation in English, but one day of preparation was not enough for that, so I switched to German. It is really hard to speak English if everyone else around you is speaking in your native language. Interesting experience, it was much easier to speak English at TEDxSummit.

Deutsch: So Ihr lieben, ich habe keine Ahnung wie viele von euch der englischen Sprache mächtig sind, bei mir geht’s so, deshalb schreibe ich in der Weltsprache “bad english”. Ich habe auf der TEDxSummit soviele nette Leute kennengelernt und würde auch gerne deren Meinung zu meinen Ideen oder tollen Sachen die ich finde, einholen können. Also wie seht ihr das, störts euch wenn ich englisch schreibe?

Yesterday was my last day at monster. I worked for them as a freelance Social Media Consultant from December 2011 and it was great experience and time. But why do our ways separate? The payment was good and I could handle my tasks very well, but after I finished them, there was not much time left for development.

What was my Job?

I had to find some relevant or entertaining job related content, mix it with the content my Coworkers created and spread them to the different Channels (B2B & B2C & Intranet), I had to monitor all the channels, take photos at events or from the inside of Monster. I planned and designed Facebook Ads & Campaigns, Profile pictures, made some Videos and if a coworker had a social Media related question, i did some research. It was sometimes fun, sometimes stressful and sometimes boring.

I’m a FREElancer

I read tons of career advice and discussions on grades or the perfect resume, but something seems wrong for me. If you would ask me for career advice, i would say: find your talent and become a freelancer, you are always fucked as a worker, you are always dependent, you are replaceable, you are a gear! Get the hell out of it!

You will lose your Job anyway

There is no save job. The time for big companies is over. The transaction costs are so low, most of the time it’s simply more effective to build a small team and work on a project base with other small teams. You don’t need to be big to be found. Google is great in finding the longtail.

What’s next?

The same as before, lucky me, i always had some customers on the side, so its not a total restart. But i have to find some more, but before i start a search, i will try to get my passion paid.

In the last years I read a lot about the evolution of media from “one to many” to “many to many” and my Homebase Mainz was often mentioned because of Gutenbergs printing press. It was very interesting to read detailed descriptions of medieval Mainz, because I passed some of the places a thousand times, without knowing about their history. I learned more about Mainz by reading Jeff Jarvis, Seth Godin or Clay Shirky than by living in this city for 9 years. And even my “native” friends didn’t knew much more. I like to change this and show Mainz and the world what revolution started here.

I like to make a youtube documentation about the evolution of massmedia and I will start in Mainz. I like to interview some Experts and film some explanation videos. I can do this part of the story without much financial risk, because I just have to invest my time. I can meet most of the experts by bike. Later i will travel trough Germany, to meet more experts and finally I will travel to New York, Silicon Valley and the middle east. I will try crowdfunding or find a sponsor for this project.

I started today by visiting the Gutenberg Museum and after reading so much about Hennes Genzfleisch aka Johannes Gutenberg, it was much more interesting than my first visit years ago. So in the worst case I spend some time to meet interesting people in Mainz and contribute some knowledge to the world and in the best case i can do this all over the world. I have some money left, so why wait for approval?

When I packed for TEDxSummit I knew I would come back as a different person and one big change came to my mind in the train back home from the airport. First of all, I wanted to say “Hi” to everyone who entered the train, like in the elevator in the Kempinski. But there was another difference, it’s hard to describe, but people with different ethnics are more visible now. I see their faces, instead of a “pattern”. And I feel trust in people in general. It was great to meet so many different but inspired people from all over the world and I think I will try a “Say Hi to everyone you meet day” maybe it is as much fun as in Doha.

Wo soll ich anfangen? Die Woche in Doha beim TEDxSummit war einfach zu krass und das in so vielen verschiedenen Dimensionen. Ich werde zu vielen Themen sicher nochmal ausführlicher schreiben, wollte aber erst einmal einen groben Überblick niederschreiben, weil ich die ganze Woche nicht dazu gekommen bin.

Doha

Zu erst einmal die Stadt. Unser Hotel war mitten in einem neuen Hochhausgebiet zu dem Frankfurt im Vergleich wie ein Dorf aussieht. Die meisten davon sind allerdings noch im Bau und keins ist älter als 6 Jahre. Auch die Kontraste waren heftig, zwischen dem traditionellen Markt und einem Einkaufszentrum mit Eislauffläche und Achterbahn.

Qatar

Das meiste ist Wüste oder Steppe und aber das Meer ist nie weiter als 40 km entfernt. Die Sonne ballerte die ganze Zeit, wurde aber von einer Mischung aus Wasserdampf und Staub ein wenig gebrochen.

TEDxOrganisatoren

Die TEDxOrganisatoren kamen aus 90 Ländern und ich habe soviel über die Welt gelernt. Alle waren super nett und jemand hat dazu gepostet, dass es wohl die beste Couchsurfing Plattform der Welt war. Nach diesen Begegnungen fühle ich mich wirklich als Weltbürger denn durch diese diversen Kontakte nehme ich jetzt schon andere Kulturen ganz anders wahr. Man konnte aus erster Hand erfahren, was man sonst nur durch den Filter der Medien kannte. Man hat sich fast wie auf dem UN Gipfel gefühlt, nur mit mehr Spaß.

TED

Wow, das war gaaaaanz groß. Es gab spannende Projekte und Theorie, die dort vorgestellt wurden und alles hatte die Qualität, die man von TED.com gewöhnt ist.

Workshops & Actions

In vielen verschiedenen kleineren Gruppen wurden Projekte angesprochen und entwickelt, die TED und TEDx nachhaltig verändern werden. Aus der Show wird ein Movement. In Zukunft wird es immer mehr “Ideas worth doing” geben und die Plattform wird den Besuchern dabei helfen aus der Konsumentenrolle heraus es leichter machen Ideen zusammen zu verwirklichen. Zusätzlich gab es auch noch eine Menge Workshops, bei denen man von alten Hasen lernen konnte, wie man Ideen verbreitet oder eine Community aufbaut.

Dekadenz

Auch die Dekadenz war für mich neu. Wir wurden von der Sheikha eingeladen und die hat sich nicht Lumpen lassen. Für mich eine neue Welt , denn noch nie haben sich soviele Menschen um mein Wohl gekümmert. Ich selber wusste nicht wirklich was ich davon halten soll. Denn ich hätte kein Problem damit gehabt meinen Teller selber zu spülen, auf der anderen Seite habe ich es mir aber dadurch schön geredet, dass wir sehr nette Gäste waren und dadurch eine Menge Menschen Geld verdienen konnten.

Die TED-Verschwörung?

Da war soviel Energie und ich glaube wirklich die Welt wird die Auswirkungen dieses Treffens noch im positiven Sinne spüren. Alles zusammen war so perfekte PR, voll mit Emotionen und ich war mir eine kurze Zeit nicht sicher, ob es da nicht eine versteckte Agenda gibt. Besonders als kurz Kony2012 ein Thema war wurde ich misstrauisch. Aber im Laufe der Tage ist immer deutlicher geworden, dass es einfach kein Ziel gibt außer Ideen zu verbreiten und jedem den Zugang zu dem bestmöglichen Quellen zu ermöglichen. Innen drin herrscht eine ungeheure Dynamik und Kontroverse, aber auch genug Toleranz um unterschiedliche Positionen auszuhalten. Spannend!

Die Zukunft von TEDx?

TEDx wuchert wirklich unkontrollierbar und die Initiatoren hatten und haben keine Ahnung wohin das führt. Aber Sie wissen, dass es eher gut als schlecht ist. Im Moment organisieren die meisten aus reiner Leidenschaft die Events, aber wenn die Marke TEDx noch stärker wird, wird es auch zu mehr Missbrauch kommen. Wie man darauf reagieren wird weiß ich nicht, ich vermute aber mit einem klareren Rahmen, vielleicht sind wir alle aber auch schlau genug um was besseres zu finden. TEDx ist einfach ein tolles Format bei dem man Erfahrungen sammeln kann und ich bin mir sicher, dass einige TEDx Veranstalter langfristig auch immer mehr eigene Formate entwickeln werden, wenn diese nicht mehr in den TEDx Rahmen passen. Das bedeutet noch mehr Mutationen und Wissen lässt sich nicht mehr aufhalten.

When i was a PC i thought i have to be smart, but when I became a mac, I understood that it is easier to work with smart people. I had more time to focus on thing that are important to me instead of focusing on what wasn’t important for PC-Programmers.

It’s all about details

• Select a file and press Spacebar -> See an instant preview
• Press Cmd + Space, type the first letters of the programm you wanna launch, Enter -> opens Searchbar, finds programm, opens program >> I don´t need to browse folders
• Drag a file over a folder and hold -> folder opens
• The system runs for weeks without a restart. Just close the MacBook to save energy

I could continue this list, but i hope you get the point. This are the small details that make your life easier. You don’t use this little features as the USP in a big advertisement Campaign, but they are still there and you miss them, when you are on a PC. Even worse, you think Microsoft hates people, because it would be so easy to adapt this little details.

What i learned from my personal experience is, people love details. If someone is talking enthusiastically about a product or service, they never mention the price or the gestalt, its always about the small details. You can feel if a company leaves enough space for their employees to care about the details or if they only do, what they have to do.

Deshalb kamen wir auf eine bessere Frage:

Wie willst du in 10 Jahren sein?

Und da waren wir uns dann schnell einig. Wir möchten uns noch immer für etwas brennen. Klar, wollen wir auch fair und nett usw. sein. Aber das sind die Basics. Was macht Spaß? Was bringt einen persönlich weiter?

Begeisterung! Neugier! Für etwas brennen!

Besonders im letzten Jahr ist mir mein Feuer zwischenzeitlich mal ausgegangen. Aber es war noch Glut da. Wenn man sich zu sehr aufs Geld verdienen konzentriert, vergisst man den Blick fürs Wesentliche.

Damit mir das nicht nochmal passiert, habe ich mir jetzt eine Erinnerung eingerichtet.

Wofür brennst du?

Jeden Monat am 27. (der Tag ist eigentlich egal) bekomme ich auf meinem Rechner und iPod jetzt eine Erinnerung mit dem Titel: Wofür brennst du? und ich werde versuchen jedesmal kurz die Antwort aufzuschreiben. Manchmal werde ich bestimmt auch darüber bloggen.

Was ist eure Frage?

Wie wollt ihr in 10 Jahren sein und mit welcher Frage könnt ihr euch daran erinnern?

Möchtet Ihr reich sein? Etwas können, das sonst keiner schafft? Mit Freunden zusammen sein? Oder einfach nur glücklich sein?

Bei einigen Zielen passt eine Frage besser als bei anderen. Aber es ist oft ganz hilfreich wenn man automatisch daran erinnert wird.
