Alexander Technik in Berlin

Verbands Deutschland e.V. (ATVD) und den internationalen Affliliated
Societies of the Alexander Technik (ATAS).

Nach erfolgreichem Abschluss erhält man die
zertifizierte Berufsbezeichnung „Lehrer:in der F.M. Alexander Technik“.

an 38 Wochen je Ausbildungsjahr statt.

selbst.

Angewandte Mittel und Techniken:

Hands on:
Berührungen ermöglichen dem Lernenden
eine stärkere Selbstwahrnehmung, stoppen Gewohnheismuster und zeigen
das „Längen und Weiten“ des Körpers an.

Verbale Anweisungen:

target="_blank">School of Alexander Technique Berlin since 1998, handed over the school to his successor Jonathan Sheratte and, now in his seventies, returned to Israel.

When I did the last two years of my Alexander Technique teacher training with him many years ago, we still lived in Hamburg and I took the train to Berlin every morning and back to Hamburg at lunchtime for two years.

I am infinitely grateful for everything I was able to learn from him and also for the opportunity to come to the school at any time after completing my training and work with the students there.

The central theme for me with Dan was always touch, the development of "good hands" that Alexander teachers are so well known for.

Perhaps the most important sentence I have heard from him (and he says he can't even remember saying it) that stays with me and makes my work as an Alexander Technique teacher (and, by the way, also as a trainer and coach) easier and lighter is this:

I meet you with my working on myself.

Thank you for everything, Dan!

I meet you with my working on myself.

Danke für alles, Dan!

Love, Michael

<a href="https://coachingpodcast.de/" At the still point of the turning world.
Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards;
at the still point, there the dance is,
But neither arrest nor movement.
And do not call it fixity,
Where past and future are gathered.
Neither movement from nor towards,
Neither ascent nor decline.
Except for the point, the still point,
There would be no dance,
and there is only the dance.
Douglas Edison Harding (1909-2007) was an English philosophical writer, mystic, spiritual teacher and author of a number of books, including 'On Having No Head – Zen and the Rediscovery of the Obvious'.

"... F. M. Alexander was an advocate of walking tall. A therapist who treated successfully many famous people for a great variety of complaints, he got his results by very simple means. He urged his patients to get what he called their head-neck-back (h-n-b) control going—thinking the head forward and up, relaxing the neck, and widening and lengthening the back. In effect, the patient was to get home and take charge, consciously inhabiting this ruling upper region from which he had disastrously strayed. He was to leave the body’s members to carry on with their own business free from his direct interference, almost as if they were cut off. This homecoming, Alexander claimed, by withdrawing attention from the abnormally functioning parts to their controlling centre, corrects their functioning automatically, and often swiftly. In addition, there is a tendency for eyes to brighten, complexions to clear, the head to be held higher and at a better angle, and general health and happiness to improve. The effect of treatment was in some cases for the patient to feel airborne. Alexander was never clear why his technique worked. Significantly, its results are very much like the results of seeing one’s facelessness or headlessness. This isn’t surprising, for in practice the maintenance of the h-n-b control means clearly locating and concentrating upon a presence here which, though very real and potent, is quite empty of content. At their best, Alexander’s disciples were faceless without fully recognizing it. This was sufficient to produce many ‘miraculous’ cures. ..."

This statement fits my experience with the Alexander Technique.

In aller Freiheit

In order to change your reaction, the technique suggests that you stop on the way towards that end, putting it aside, almost out of your mind.
Then to give the directions for another use of yourself and then continue towards your end.
How is it possible though to put your end out of your mind and still keep on to it?
The more the end is out of my mind, the more my inhibition becomes more real. But how is this possible when I still want to reach my end?
This becomes possible only when the end stops being an end and becomes an aim.
An end closes one's horizon as if there is nothing after it, the future then becoming a destructive element.
An aim though is simply one station along your way.
Your way is timeless.
It is there in each moment.
In the present.

"(...) My second example of the usefulness of an ethological approach to Medicine has quite a different history. It concerns the work of a very remarkable man, the late F. M. Alexander (...). His research started some fifty years before the revival of Ethology for which we are now being honoured, yet his procedure was very similar to modern observational methods, and we believe that his achievements and those of his pupils deserve close attention. → Disproportions, not Dichotomies

Abstract: According to John Dewey (1859–1952) the common source of all other dualisms is to consider mind and body as being separate, whereas the difference is actually rather one of degree and emphasis. Furthermore Dewey is not only convinced that it is actually necessary to do something about this relationship in order to »making it right«, but also that the method of F. M. Alexander (1869–1955) is the proper procedure to experience the continuity of mind and body in actual practice. This insistence on the value of a specific technique seems to be quite a remarkable exception in the common universe of discourse.
... If we are talking about yoga on wider level as a whole approach to life, then there are a number of intriguing similarities of approach with the Alexander work.

Both are extremely optimistic undertakings, which recognize that it is within the power of human being to alter their own karma or conditioning.

Both claim that breaking the hold of habit is the key to fundamental change.

Both recognize the necessity of awareness and a keen understanding of ourselves and our habits, as the basis of change. Both understand the basic unreliability of our very basic perceptions, and stress the necessity of working with ourselves in such a way that our understanding of ourselves and the world around us, becomes more accurate.

Both emphasize the necessity of eliminating the tyranny of focusing on ends instead of means. ...

»... the defining qualities of Mr Macdonald’s teaching were those of a true martial artist. He had the ability to allow the placement of the principles of the Alexander Technique and to take them into dynamic motion – including walking, the lunge, a “swinger”, up onto the toes, position of mechanical advantage or “monkey”, and the squat. [...]

Like a martial arts master – or any master – he brought stillness and movement together. He did not waste movement; he did not waste words. He was watchful. He demanded simply, and with the right kind of seriousness, that you knew “where up is, and what up is”. His art was the Alexander Technique. Words are not the best way of communicating his teaching, and words have a tendency to get stuck in the ordinary mind, rather than being weighed and “placed upon the heart”, so that they can be helpful towards understanding.«

Video

We were all very confused, until Pat (Patrick Macdonald) realized that what F.M. meant (although he wasn´t saying it in a word) was that the head goes forward and up from the occipital joint, not from the »hump« (dtsch. Buckel, 7. Halswirbel). This was such an eye opener to all of us because as soon as we realized that, we could get the freedom there and the rest did itself almost.

Where are your hip joints?

Video

When you´re directing to a part of the body, you´re sending little telegrams. That´s why it´s important to know where your hip joints are - because you can send a message to the wrong address and nothing happens.
