While Mia is enjoying a peaceful outdoor excursion with her daughters, their fun is cut short by a sudden and ferocious attack by tree demons.  Immediately after this ambush, Mia is confronted with her ghostly grandmother Fredericka who warns her that a tenacious ghost by the name of Chance is behind the attack.  Mia begins to investigate who exactly this Chance is and why he would be after her children.

Meanwhile, Angelo is ensconced back in time, reading the hidden texts to educate himself on the power and accomplishments of the birdwomen.  Will his newfound insights lead to the redemption that many having been hoping for?

Further investigations have uncovered that it’s not only the Martins’ twins who are in danger but Sabine Norwood’s triplets too.  Mia has chosen - in order to save the girls – she must reestablished old ties and create the trusts that are necessary to combat this force that wants to take her and Sabine’s children.

I’m proud to release The Family Business, my 36th novel of the Haunted Series just in time to keep you warm in the February chill.  Leave the shoveling to the spouse, the dinners to Uber Eats, and hunker down for a great PEEPs adventure.

The Family Business opens with Mia, Ted, and PEEPs working on two continents.  Mia is filming another season of Enyo in rainy, mountainous Austria, where the mud is as deep as the storylines Mia is dealing with.  She also has to deal with a lady in white with an attitude, her friends as costars, and a director who is pushing to get the best performance out of her.

Back at home, Ted is looking for places to rent for his new startup business Romulus Mobile.  Ted and Patrick walk into a dealership and find it’s haunted and has been for over fifty years.  What’s more, the sale from 1965 is still going on. 

If this long distance relationship isn’t hard enough on the Martins, someone is out to ruin the producer of Enyo by taking Mia down with well-crafted lies; Cid has written some salacious scenes; and Ted has decided, demons or not, they are going to investigate the dealership. 

Join Mia and PEEPs as they navigate filmmaking and a multidimensional haunt and still manage to get the boys to school on time.

Garrett, Cid: Contractor, investigator, cameraman, and technician.

Hicks, Burt: Founding partner of PEEPs, lead investigator, and cameraman.

Holden, Jessie: Crossover character from Cid Garrett P.I., contractor specializing in pre-Civil War roof structures.  Recently developed sensitive gifts after being brought back to life by Stephen Murphy, Walnut Grove Cid, Garrett P.I. Book #5.

Jake: Ghost, research, and computers.

Baraqijal: Fallen angel astrologer who Mia gave her blue-energy hellfire wings so he could return Arcas to Polaris.  Lost Child.

Bathin: Fallen archangel, known as the Pale Rider.  He rode with Joan of Arc.  First mentioned in Myth and Malice.

Baxter: Wizard, doctor, paranormal psychiatrist, friend of Quentin.

Braverman, Don: Husband of Susan and father of Tom.  Lifelong resident of Big Bear Lake.

Braverman, Tom: Sheriff of Big Bear Lake, school friend of Mia.  Murphy brought him back to life, inadvertently giving him the sight.

Watchers: Angels who fell in love with the daughters of man and were tossed out of Heaven and punished by Lucifer.  First mentioned in Loose Threads.

Wayne, Wyatt: Demon, also known as Altair.

Wesley, Dr. Bernard: Retired director of the Culture Department of Chicago’s Field Museum, friend of Father Santos, Mia’s godfather, and married to Ralph Mendelssohn.

Wilson, Arlo: Australian host of Wheels Up and adventure series that contract PEEPs to work with them on Sideshow.

Wright, Sally: Army veteran introduced in Walnut Grove House, Cid Garrett P.I. series book #5.  Currently Cid’s fiancée.

Vender, Crissy: Owner and waitress of Mia’s favorite diner.

Yolanthe: Quentin’s twin sister that was hidden from their father at birth and presently resides in a different dimension.  She is watched over by Nyx.  Yolanthe is a Nephilim who was introduced in Smoke and Mirrors when she met Mia at the fold of the world.

All Sight: The ability to see in the present, past and future (a few minutes) at the same time.

Altiplano: a high plateau or plain, similar to a mesa.

Aónikenk: aka Tehuelche, are an indigenous people from Patagonia in South America, with existing members of the group currently residing in the southern Argentina-Chile borders.

Apport: To produce an object without any apparent physical means.

Attrpeur-âme: A catcher of souls.

BFF: Best friends forever.

Bilocation (bilocator, bilocating): The movement of the soul out of the body.  See OOB.

Bolt: An arrow a crossbow shoots.

Caul: Old world name for the amniotic sac.

Council of Women: A group of spirits and living women who govern ghosts.

Cynosura: A cult of wealthy people who operate under the guise of bringing enlightenment to all but, in reality, want to enslave all for the benefit of furthering their agendas.

Dark Vault: Vault where information, relics, and entities of Dark Magic are contained.

Dark World: An unescapable prison for spirits who interfere physically with the living.  They wander alone for an eternity, never coming in contact with anything else.

Déchu: Fallen.

Devo: Australian slang.  It’s short for devastated.

Die Zuflucht: The sanctuary of the Neyer clan.  See: Book of Souls.

Di inferi: beings controlled by Dis Pater.  They guard pauper graves.

Disapport: When things disappear.  Re: poltergeist incursion.

Drusus: Knife that only gets sharper when used.  Given to Mia by Dis Pater.

Dual time: Ten days in aerie or at the Reynold’s mansion equals one day.

Earcom: Communication device worn inside the ear while investigating.

Evzones: Greek elite guards.

FBO: Fixed based operator, an organization granted the right by an airport to operate at the airport and provide aeronautical services such as fueling, hangaring, tie-down and parking, aircraft rental, aircraft maintenance, flight instruction, and similar services.

EMF: Electromagnetic field.

Enyo: Goddess of war and destruction.  Sister of Ares.

First father: the very first winged being in a birdman or angel line.  Traces back to the thunderbirds and the Watchers.

Flitch: A demonic parasite that slowly takes over the mind of its host, causing the host to act contrary to their natural makeup.

Gray Lady: Female birdwoman whose vocation is healing.

GMD or Ghost Mountain Dimension: the between which covers the Andes Mountain range in South America.

GSD or Ghost Ship Dimension: the between but over water.

Hall pass: Permission to beak a rule of code of conduct.

Hellfire Club: Club that flaunted their sexual and political intrigues in eighteenth-century England.  In Cold Creek Hollow they abused the parish founded in the summer settlement.  The Hauntings of Cold Creek Hollow, The Middle House: Return to Cold Creek Hollow.

Hellhounds: Supernatural dogs who typically serve demons and Others.

HSG aka Honorable Society of Gargoyles: Social society of gargoyles.

House of El: Superman’s family (clan).

Lago Blue: Expensive Birdman school in Italy that Angelo went to as a child.

La Terreur: Reign of Terror, also called the Terror, French La Terreur, period of the French Revolution from September 5, 1793, to July 27, 1794.  During the Reign of Terror, at least 300,000 suspects were arrested; 17,000 were officially executed, and perhaps 10,000 died in prison or without trial. ~ Britannica

Locked-in Syndrome: a medical condition, usually resulting from a stroke that damages part of the brainstem, in which the body and most of the facial muscles are paralyzed but consciousness remains, and the ability to perform certain eye movements is preserved.

Mind Palace: A way your mind stores memories.  The consciousness invents a place that you’re familiar with.  It’s basically how it separates thoughts and stores memories.  Each person’s is different.

Nymphs: Beautiful female humanoids with blue seal skin and womanly bodies who work with Baxter to heal.

Ocular: Little wormlike robot.  Normally used for observation activities.  It can produce an electric shock when needed.

O.I.: Stands for obligatory injun.  A phrase coined by the Native American Nietzsche Big Tree in Given Enough Rope.

Other: Paranormal contract negotiators and enforcers.

OOB: Out of body.  State of bilocation.

Rite of Isis: A potion drunk between Piers Savatier (wizard) and his apprentice (Angelo Michaels) to keep the other from speaking or writing about their activities together.  Angelo.

Parkour: the sport of traversing environmental obstacles by running, climbing, or leaping rapidly and efficiently.

Permeation spell: A controlling spell or curse received by touching a cursed object such as paper.

Rahab: Refers to a prostitute in Jericho who hid two men who were sent to reconnoiter the city before a battle.

Redshirt: Last PEEP hired.  In homage to Star Trek’s red-shirted crewmen and women who were the first sacrificed.

RPGs: Role playing videogames.

Second Day Sea: Fabled sea where God separated the water from the sky.  Thought to be where life was born from.

Spousal contract: Birdman originated contract that binds two people to wed when one or both of their spouses dies.  Used to protect widows and orphans and to secure the best breeders of the birdman culture.

Striga (strigae): female witch from Mordovia.  Practitioner of dark magic.

Tardis: Famed Dr. Who time craft, known to be quite a bit larger inside than the outer shell of phone box appears on the outside.

Tartarian: Denizens of Tartarus (underworld).

The between: Areas of airspace where paranormal creatures can navigate unseen by the human populace.

The fold: The airspace at the top of the world where several dimensions or veils join.

The Twelve: Elected bird people from the twelve districts of the world.  Similar to the congress of the United States.

Veil: Another dimension occurring alongside our own, invisible to the human eye.  Half veil: A veil that can be maneuvered to send entities or other tangible items invisibly from one place to another.  Example: showering flowers, rocks, and other items, often thought of as poltergeist activity.  Slide veil:  Abbreviated dimension, open on both ends.  Often used as a portal, a way to shorten travel, and sometimes alters time.

Vente: Elite birdman warrior flock from the Frontier Flock.  Loose Threads.

Yeti: Fabled Abominable Snowman, ape-like creature lives hidden in the Sherpa hidden valleys.

Today, January 7th, 2022, is my tenth anniversary of the release of The Hauntings of Cold Creek Hollow.  Since then I have published thirty-five full-length novels in the Haunted Series, four novellas, six in the spin-off series Cid Garrett P.I., and one stand-alone book, Angelo, in the series.  Also, I have written Knight of Pages, five mystery novels in the Cin Fin-Lathen series, and published my short story Evil.  If you’re doing the math, that’s fifty-three manuscripts that I have published in ten years.  I’m not patting myself on the back but reminding myself of my last ten years as an author.

I started off writing what I thought were cozies, Decomposing and Death by Saxophone.  I was assured by a snotty agent in California that I wasn’t.  I was tired of coming close in meetings.  “We discussed you but decided to pass.”  “You have a great imagination but not sellable.”

Frustrated by the amount of time wasted with querying agents and publishers, I took a walk with my son, Aaron.  We normally would complain about the world in the beginning of our three-mile walks and, by the end, come home with a better attitude.  It was on a sunny but cold February day in 2011 that he said, “Mom, have you thought about writing something else?  Something different.  Something fun.”  Writing mysteries for me is fun, but after being rejected so many times, there is no bloom on the rose; there are no flowers at all, just the thorns.

The Hauntings of Cold Creek Hollow:

I was at the time amusing myself with watching ghost-hunting shows.  I thought that I would do a parody of those shows.  I started off with an idea, but something happened in the process of forming my characters...  I fell in love with them: Mia the misfit; Whitney the tortured law enforcement professional; Stephen Murphy the post civil war-era ghost; and a group of amateur ghost hunters, Burt, Mike, Amber, Ted and Beth.  (Little known fact: Ted and Beth were actually four technicians.  The Red Pen convinced me that four was too many to keep track of.  So I combined the traits of the four and came up with the genius beanpole Ted and the capable but ignored Beth.)

Paranormal Entity Exposure Partners, or PEEPs, was more than taking advantage of a great acronym.  I wanted to write about more than ghosts.  Ghosts are wonderful, and I love writing about Stephen Murphy, but ghosts are only a small part of the paranormal world that I wanted to explore.  I wrote the book, the Red Pen edited it, and then it sat there.  I didn’t want it abused by agent or publisher rejections.

Along comes our heroine, Janice Ivy, author of Taking out the Trailer Trash and more.  Jan asked me why I didn’t put my book up on Amazon Kindle so others could get a chance to read them?  So I did.  I thought The Hauntings of Cold Creek Hollow wouldn’t be taken seriously, and I had high hopes for the three mystery books.  I was wrong.  The book took off.  I wrote the sequel Ghostly Attachments, this time introducing the idea of OOBing.  The readers didn’t complain.  I wrote Sand Trap thinking that I may as well have a trilogy...  Thirty-five books later, here I am, still adding to the series.

Where am I now?

I’m writing Haunted Series novel thirty-seven, A Ghost of a Chance, while waiting on the edits from book thirty-six The Family Business.  I’m thankful that the Haunted Series is loved by so many readers.  I made a promise early on, when someone asked how long I would be writing the series, that I would write it as long as I had a great story to tell, and like my character Mia, if I make a promise, I keep it.  Will I write on the other series?  Again, if there is a good story there, then yes.  Otherwise, my priority is the Haunted Series.

Thank you to those who have been with me from the beginning.  Ten years is longer than most marriages, but it’s also just the start of great friendships.

Poison is the 35th novel of the Haunted Series and the 53rd book I’ve written since January of 2012. Poison is now available on Amazon Kindle. It should be available soon on Kobo and Nook.

Moving through the thick grasses of the prairie, prodded by a force of nature behind her, an exhausted Mia falls only to be dragged to her feet by the others beside her.  Is this a dream or has death finally abandoned her to the Purgatory of the Wanderers.  What had she done so horrible to be forced to roam the breadth of North America only to find herself once again with her heels on the Pacific shore?

Sabine Norwood falls in love with a house filled with Tiffany stained glass windows.  She wants to raise her daughters there.  Unfortunately, the house is haunted.  The last medium to try to rest the ghosts ended up one herself.  Sabine is counseled to leave the house be and look for another more child-friendly home.  Sabine ignores the good advice because she thinks the house can be saved and hires PEEPs.

PEEPs on their A game are unstoppable, but each PEEP has something else on their mind, including Mia, whose near brush with death has her committed to solving a bigger problem.

Meanwhile, a seven-year-old boy walks Tiffany House dragging his dead dog behind him.

I thought I better get you an update to Poison my 35th novel of the Haunted Series.  My mother died a month ago today.  My editor, webguy, beta reader and myself were having a tough time.  When someone is your light and source of laughter and love leaves you it takes a while to mourn.  It hits you at odd times, bringing in catalogs you always used to send her Christmas presents, or picking up the phone and realizing she’s not there.

We are back on track but the release of the book is later than I hoped.  It will be before the end of the month.  Once the second edit is finished I’ll give you a more solid date.

The Facebook outage worried a few of you readers in regards to notifying you on when books are available.  I do use Facebook to announce book releases but not exclusively.  I maintain this website for not only new releases but also for updates, ease of purchasing and podcasts.

Darkness is consuming Angelo Michaels.  He has kept it at bay for over thirty years with heroic acts and by fighting for the innocent of planet Earth.  But the source of the darkness will not leave him.  Mia determines that Angelo must return to Argentina to face what he did during the darkest day of his life, the day when he used his knowledge of necromancy to bring back his fiancée Gabriella Sandoval.  But he isn’t going alone.  Mia and Gerald Shem travel with him with hopes that their combined knowledge and power will help Angelo free himself from the darkness for once and for all.  There’s one problem, Angelo doesn’t want to be freed from Gabriella.  Mia isn’t going into this fight unprepared, but she’s also going into it with two people who don’t necessarily have her best interests at heart.

Pickles Renovation is going to have to deal with more than cracked timbers and reconstructing the damaged areas of Riverview Manor.  They have ghosts to rest from Riverview Manor’s past but also Briarwood House, a house that haunts Riverview.  Cid, who stubbornly refuses help from Mia Martin early in the investigation, decides that Riverview is way over his and Jesse’s heads.  He decides to call in the best of the best to help.  But will it be in time?

Do you have to have read the Haunted Series to enjoy this book? No. It’s written so that a new reader will not have any trouble understanding the world Angelo is from. You can also be anywhere in the series and read Angelo. For those who have read the series, you will gain an insight into not only Angelo but a few other characters.

Why did you write a standalone Haunted Series novel? Believe it or not, there are some people who don’t want to commit to a 31 plus book series. Also, this gives a new reader the opportunity to taste what the series has to offer by introducing them to not only Angelo but several others whose lives were changed by Angelo.

I know it’s way past time to update all of you on the Haunted Series.  We have been working very hard on book #31 Smoke and Mirrors.  It will go to the beta reader this weekend.  So if everything runs smoothly, it will be available Tuesday the 8th of September.  Although, as I have done in the past, if I can get it to you sooner, I will notify you on alexieaaron.com, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Smoke and Mirrors is the longest book of the series.  Yup.  I figured that since I needed a break from the horrible nasty world we seem to be living in, you may too.  Also, I wanted to thank you for coming through with the written reviews and kind encouragement.  I really appreciate not only your reading the books but telling others about the series.  Just the other day I ran across the Haunted Series on a list of must reads.  I was gobsmacked.  Whoa! 

Preorders:

Before you ask, I don’t do preorders.  Why?  I don’t like the pressure of writing to a deadline, or putting my editor and beta reader in a stressful situation.  I know some authors can write this way, but for me it stifles the muse.  If I already had the book finished, I could wait and have preorders, but why would I make the reader wait when I have the book finished?  Also, preorders, in my opinion, clog up the New Release area of Kindle.  I have looked for a book and been disappointed that these New Releases aren’t available and won’t be available for thirty days or in some cases, months from now.  When I buy a book, I want to read it now.  For you that have requested preorders, I apologize for the inconvenience. 

Work in Progress:

I’m in the process of writing a standalone book called Angelo.  Yes, it’s Angelo Michaels from the Haunted Series.  I’ve always wanted to write his backstory.  He is a very complicated character with a rich history.  Where did he come from?  Who are his parents?  What happened in his life to make him act in an inconsistent manner at times?  In Stick and Stones, he said to Baxter: “I see a group of ancient sages who reside in the Italian Alps.  I’m so messed up inside, it takes four of you to help me adjust.”

Angelo is a beautiful, soulful hybrid birdman but with mad skills.  To prepare for this book, I’ve read everything I’ve written about Angelo.  In doing this, I’ve gained a better insight into not only Angelo but the characters surrounding him.  Projects like this help me as a writer to give you the reader not only a better insight into Angelo, but it gives me as an author a chance to pull away from the Haunted Series in order to refresh and increase my skills.

You don’t have to have read the Haunted Series to read Angelo.  I’m hoping it will entertain the paranormal fantasy reader who may be intimidated by a thirty-one plus book series.  And for you loyal Haunted Series readers, it will cover new ground and give you information on Angelo from his childhood, through his school years and the beginnings of his rise in the birdman society. 

Cid Garrett P.I. series:

I really don’t have a strong idea for a haunt as of yet.  I’ve been using Jesse, Cid and Sally in the most recent book, Smoke and Mirrors, being very careful not to advance relationships so that the Cid Garrett P.I. reader who doesn’t read the Haunted Series isn’t missing out. 

Paperbacks:

For those collecting the Haunted Series, we are in the process of sprucing up the beginning books.  It’s going to take us time to catch up, but it is our intention to have a paperback for each of the books.  I just want to make sure that we have all the I’s dotted and the T’s crossed before putting the new editions into print.

Audiobooks:

I think my biggest disappointment was not being able to put all these books on audio.  The honest answer is that economically I can’t afford it.  I have a wonderful voice actor and would love to employ her, but right now, it simply isn’t possible.  I’m just trying to find a way to bring that ship in so I can afford it.  I think the pirates in the GSD are running interference.  

That’s all I have right now.  Keep an eye out for an announcement for Smoke and Mirrors on or before September 8th.

Sorry, it’s been so long since I last posted, but I was writing on book 30 and, whoa, did that pull me in.  Myth and Malice went to the Red Pen today.  She’s reading it and banned me from staring at her.  What to do, what do to?  I thought maybe I’d get all of you caught up.

First!  Welcome new PEEPs!  We’re really happy to see that new readers have joined the ranks.  I’m not going to put anything in this post to spoil the other books for you.  I wish some of our reviewers (hint hint) would do the same.  Actually, I’m incredibly happy with the reviews.  Leaving a review on Amazon, Nook, or Kobo brings the book into the eyes of someone browsing.  There are levels at which Amazon will advertise a book, and it’s basically after 40 reviews, or so I’ve been told.  Anyway, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.  It means a lot.

Second, I’d like to send a shout out to the people in lockdown (like me), the essential workers, (Webguy included), truckers, delivery personnel, packers, the medical front line and support people.  And, yes, what would we do if not for the first responders?  These are times where our patience, kindness, and common sense will show the most.  It’s very frustrating hearing the way my son is abused at his essential worker job.  He’s there, frightened he’s going to bring Covid19 home to his at-risk parents, having to listen to the abusive language of some of the people waltzing around the stores toting young children without masks demanding their liberties.  I promised to not make a personal comment but…  I’ll leave it to my sending a noncontact hug to everyone who has had a bad day.  There will be better days, and I’m proud of all of you for stepping up.

Now for the good stuff.  After months of writing and rewriting, I have another Haunted Series draft finished.  Yes, you have heard it before, but this is the largest word count I have ever written for one book.  It wasn’t intentional, but the story I started at the end was too good to leave before it was finished.  I try to make sure each novel has a completed story, sometimes three stories.  I don’t like to read cliffhangers or watch them on the television, so I don’t follow that practice in my series.  Yes, there will be a story arc that may take more than one book to complete, but I will entertain you with complete novels, no cliffhangers.

I called it Myth and Malice because it deals with both, sometimes in tandem, sometimes illuminating one or the other.  I was inspired by watching my favorite adventurer Josh Gates in his Discovery Channel series Expedition Unknown.  I had watched his Destination Truth series when it was on Syfy.  If you haven’t seen him before, I guarantee he is worth the search to find the replays and first plays of his shows.  He not only takes you places that I never knew were there, but his humor and outstanding commentary at the end of the pieces are inspiring.  I went for the scenery and ended up learning something.  He also had me studying the places he went to, reading scientific papers and listening to some great podcasts about the subjects I had zoned in on.  Josh, if this ever finds it’s way into your hands, you, sir, are my hero. https://www.joshuagates.com/

If you’ve read all 29 books, 4 novellas and the five Cid Garrett P.I. series. Have a gander at Knight of Pages. I think lovers of the paranormal and lovers in general will love this book.
