I will start putting calls out for  ’test’ shoots on my facebook business page.  If you would like to come in and model for me or your child it’s just $100 for the shoot and a few digital photos.  I can’t believe I’m posting this for everyone to see because yes, I normally don’t share my pricing online publicly.  But for a test shoot, where we could get about 5 to 10 great images, you get photos of your beautiful self and I get photos to share with photographers on our new backdrop designs.  So it’s a win win. This is just a ‘test’ shoot. It’s not a full length photo shoot that I typically do.  I do charge more for those obviously but if you can come in and I have some designs I show you and you have clothes that will work then we can totally shoot.

Here are some images I took of her little stud muffin!

I absolutely adore this last image.  Why?  you may ask?  He’s not smiling.. No well, he’s not.  But a lot of times as a photographer you only want to capture the cute smiles and most of the times parent’s only want the cute smiles as well.  What about this cute little pouty face?  As a mom, I don’t think I have photos of my daughter like this and it’s the little things like this you tend to forget. What their cute little pouty face looks like when they are so little.  I just love this image because this is the kind of thing I don’t want to forget.

I love every emotion captured in the camera from little kids.  Like I wrote before in my post about my daughter’s images.  When I photographed her 6 year old photos it didn’t matter to me if she smiled in them or not. The last thing I want is a forced ‘cheese’ smile ya know.  I know when it’s a fake smile out of my daughter and I know you know when it happens with your kids.  As photographers, we try so hard to get natural smiles.   I personally have never taught her to say cheese.  I don’t tell my customers either to say cheese.  I work with them to get those natural smiles.

MINI SESSIONS:  Since moving to Hudson, I have changed quite a few things around in my pricing structures.  I am now offering mini sessions.  This is a great way to get some amazing photos of your little ones in our studio with out spending a ton of money.  It’s a 25 minute mini session and digital images.  If you are interested in this please contact me for pricing!

So, since I’m new to this area I really haven’t know where to go to take photos!  I knew all of my old locations in Northfield because I was there for 7 years but this has been so much fun finding new spots!  We tried out one spot and I wasn’t loving it so we went to another and it just blew me away.  The lighting in there was beautiful!  I’m a total geek when it comes to light and clouds and sun etc. Total geek!  When I’m shooting the ‘dramatic lighting’ I love love clouds but when I’m shooting natural light I love the sun!

If you can’t tell by now I absolutely LOVE taking senior photos.  Like I’m crazy in love with my job! Well, not every single part of it but I love love shooting and editing!  All the other business stuff could totally go by the wayside lol but someone’s gotta do it and when you run your own business it’s up to you to do everything!  Anyway, if you are interested in coming to me for your senior photos please call me soon.  I am booking up very fast already and it’s not even May yet.  I’ve had so many calls already!  Do not wait!

I know I’m ‘new’ in town but I have 7 years of experience and it’s not ‘just’ a job to me.  The other night I was photographing another senior model and I found a little spot with the most beautiful lighting and I felt like a kid in a candy store.  I was so excited and happy to have found a little pocket of gorgeous lighting.

Oh!!  Here’s a little snippet of what McKenzy’s mom sent me.

I have taken both of my daughter’s to Ali for their senior pictures, we found her off of her facebook page. We fell in love with her flawless pictures immediately! We drove to Northfield MN. for our first daughter, which was about a 2 hour drive for us, so you know we must have loved her work! Ali now lives in Hudson WI. which is only about 15 minute from our family,but we still would have driven to Northfield for her perfect work! She has treated my family with total respect and kindness!! My daughters both loved her funny personality and kind nature during the shoot, which made the girls more at ease!! check out her photos for yourself! Ali will be our one and only photographer!! I cried after watching this.

See, I have struggled my entire life with my self-appearance.  I was teased for having a ‘pig’ nose and bushy eyebrows.  Even my college roommate told me how I would look skinnier if I had waxed my eyebrows.  My cousins even called me ‘Alpo’ growing up plus many other names…. You have NO idea how words can impact a person!   I was teased for being overweight too.  I have been very hard on myself over the years and not until recently did I start putting myself first.  I have always put everyone else first and never took care of me.  I’ve hidden in black for years.  I thought I could hide the body weight behind the black.  If I was describing myself to this man I know I would not describe myself correctly.  I think most people would not describe themselves right either.

We have got to start loving ourselves and seeing us as who we are and not just of what we look like.  We need to take pride in who we are and not allow the fear of what other’s may think of us to decide the outcomes of our lives. We have got to take charge of our own lives and love who we are no matter what.  

Back in August, I was sitting at my desk miserable.  Everything was crumbling around me.  I was successful in business, yes, but my life as I knew it, I hated it.  I had thought about ways of getting rid of myself. I was so deep down in depression the only thing that kept me afloat was my daughter and my work.  I remember driving and just thinking I will drive off the road.  That will end it.

So, sitting at my desk on my birthday I decided to change my life.  I was so sick of being sick of hating my life.  I was over 200 pounds.  I weighed 211 pounds to be exact.  I was a size 18 pant and a 1 or 2x shirt.  And I’m only 5’2″.  Little by little I started working out.  I started riding our exercise bike that had so nicely collected dust over the years.  I was watching every single episode of pysch and pretty little liars because I hated sweating and I hated working out. But, once I got into the routine I loved it.  It was my stress relief.

Since August, I have lost 57 pounds.  I moved to Hudson, Wisconsin at the end of January and I have been stuck in a plateau for over three months.  I have somewhat mentally given up on it.  I’ve become very discouraged with not being able to overcome the plateau. I have started eating junk again and not loving myself again.  I keep getting emails from other photographers around the country telling me how inspired they are by me yet here I sit back feeling how I don’t love myself because I feel fat all over again.

I don’t like feeling that way!  I’ve accomplished a lot over the past several months and after watching this video I’m not about to lose myself again.  I’m not going to give up.  I refuse to. So, tomorrow I go back to the gym.

You can not give up on yourself. EVER. Love who you are. I believe God created us with a purpose and a plan.

I sit here and think about how the other people described the people.  How they described them more accurately.  In a way, it’s very neat to think that they described them correctly, but also if you think about it people can be so mean to other people.  Like, when I was in college and  my roommate told me to wax my eyebrows.  I wonder how that roommate would have described me?  Big bushy eyebrows, extremely overweight???  Some people ONLY see people Skin Deep.  Some people only look at the outward appearance.  Would they have described you correctly to the artist?  I know as young adults and teenagers we can be way more mean to each other but yet as adults we do the same darn thing. We judge people based on their appearance.  You will probably never admit it but you do.  I’m guilty of it myself.

After losing the weight, I’ve looked at over weight people differently. I never thought I would do that but my mind has gone there and then quickly remembering how I used to be and realizing that I had an extreme addiction to food and I went to food for my comfort.

We need to take a stand and not seeing people just skin deep and not judging them by what they are wearing or if they have their make up on perfectly or whatever the case may be.  I know as a photographer, we are always trying to make everyone look amazing. Sometimes, it does feel fake. Why do we have to photoshop everyone?  Why is every single image you see in magazines liquified?  Why do we make photos look fake?  I refuse to liquify my clients.  I’ve learned to pose them so you do not need to liquify.  I tell my senior girls because I know how much they struggle with their identity that those images you see in magazines are FAKE FAKE FAKE!  Let’s be real.  Let’s love each other and ourselves.  No, that’s not cheesy.  Well, at least I don’t think it is.  Love who you are.

It really makes me sad when a client really wants to change the way they look.  You are who God created you to be and you need to love that.  Stop allowing the world to dictate how you feel about yourself.  Stop allowing the industry of perfection make you feel imperfect.  I don’t have a pig nose. I have a cute button nose.  Start seeing yourself how God created you to be!

I hope all of this makes sense to you.  I truly believe none of us love ourselves.  If we did we would be a much happier world.  We would not ridicule, criticize, or get on people for who they are.  Start looking with in yourself and loving you.

If you have a puppy bring your puppy in for photos!  They grow so fast!  Just like newborn babies!  You don’t want to miss the puppy stage!  Oh and I need me some of that horribly cute puppy breath!  I remember the first time I ever smelled puppy breath and I was totally grossed out but oh my gosh it’s like you can’t get enough of it lol!  If you are a puppy fan like I am you know what I’m talking about!

My daughter loves anything crafty. She loves to make her ‘projects’.  The other day we found out her uncle was sick so she made a ‘project’ for him.  Her projects are so beautiful!  She loves to paint, draw, color, literally anything with art she loves.  She’s a sensitive little girl who loves to spend quality time with my husband and I.

When I first started photography (she’s what inspired me) I took her photos all the time with my ‘big camera’ lol  I had so many photos of her and now I only photograph her about twice a year. I still take out my iPhone all the time and take snaps!  So, when I do a photo shoot with her there is a lot of thought behind that shoot.  I’m excited to figure out what I want to do for her 7 year old photos!  Her 5 year old photos we took a beautiful vintage bed out into the most gorgeous field.  And her 6 year old photos we did something totally different.  I didn’t need to have super smiley images.  I just wanted something that caught her in the moment being a little girl.  Sometimes, as parent’s all we want are super smiley pics.  Well, this time I didn’t want that or it least it wasn’t my goal.  We sometimes get fixated on telling our child to say cheese for a photo we forget to let them be them. I have never once told my little girl to say cheese.  I wait and if I have to wait even longer for a natural smile I will.  I don’t ever try and force a smile, I let it come out naturally.  I think it’s even harder when it’s my own child that I’m photographing compared to a client’s child.

I am still in love with all of these images, because she is mine and I am totally in love with this child. I hope someday my daughter will get her wish of having a sibling.  She throws out names almost daily on names that she likes for a baby sister or brother.  One day it was ‘Bob’ hehe  It was so cute.  But for now, I’m so thankful I do have this one amazing little girl.  She is the joy to my world, the sprinkles to my um cupcake?  Well, I don’t eat cupcakes anymore lol but she means the absolute world to me.

It happened to be really warm that day so I texted Lex to see if she wanted to come and do a fun photo shoot.  Most of the snow had melted but where we went oh my!!  We were up to our knees in snow still!

I met Lex and her family oh about 6 years ago now. She is an amazing girl!  Lex was one of my first seniors that I photographed! If you like music, like me then you need to check out her band!  She has her own band called Bright Light Parade too!  You need to check her out!  Lex is a very strong Christian woman who sings about her life experiences.  I’ve heard her sing a few times and she has a beautiful voice.  Her family is so nice too. Her mom has become a mama to me. Mama Dee.  She’s so sweet!  I love her to pieces!

So, Lex has more of an alternative/funky style to her clothing, but I was really feeling like I wanted to photograph a more softer side of her and super girly and asked if she was up for it!  I was a little nervous that it just wouldn’t go with her but we went down to La Rue Marche and Val totally styled her in the most beautiful and amazing way!  Lex completely rocked it out! She looks so beautiful!

Welcome to my new website!  This is been months in the making and I am so excited to share with you all my new website!  It’s about time for a change right!  I’m also in the process of rebranding as well so be on the look out for a new logo too!  I’ve had the same website for 7 years and it was time for a change!  A drastic change!!  The old website was all flash and you couldn’t look at it on your phones/ipads etc.  But now you can view this website on your phones etc!!

Family/Maternity Photos and turned into Birth Photos as well!

A couple weeks ago I got to photograph this wonderful family  in Northfield, Minnesota. The mom, Lori is a photographer in Northfield.  They photograph some absolutely beautiful weddings!  If you are engaged and looking for a wonderful wedding photographer you need to check out Momberg Photo!  I have always loved looking at their wedding images.

I get asked to photograph other photographer families.  This makes me so happy and it’s such a huge compliment when another photographer asks me to photograph their family!  When Lori asked me if I would do her family/maternity photos I said of course!  After we were done doing family photos I mentioned how I love birth photography!  I asked her if she was interested and she said yes!

Two weeks after we did their family photos baby Talia was born.  I was there for about 12 hours and it was the most amazing experience outside of having my own daughter.  If you are thinking of having your upcoming birth photographed call me!   I wish I had known about this back when I had my daughter.  Every single photo my husband took was blurry or out of focus.  As a first time mom or even if I was a pro at having kids lol I know how awkward I’d feel having someone in the room with me but to have the images that are like what I captured at Talia’s birth you just have to have them done!
