With the @MLS clubs entering their second legs of Champions League play you'll see a scoreline posted similar to the one I've posted here.

     The reason I bring it up now is that, not long ago, I was watching a match for the first time on Fox Soccer. I don't remember who was playing but the score was 2-1 approaching '90.

     The final whistle blew and shortly after, there was an extra time kick-off. I was puzzled. I had no idea what the "agg 2-3" line meant. Why, when the game was decided, were these teams still playing?

     I'm no expert but, I think I've got a grasp on it, now.

     So, if you've been watching the UEFA Champions League and Euro League competitions, you've seen this before. In order to advance, two teams play a total of two games against each other, one home and one away.

     Definition: aggregate " in sport, the sum of two scorelines in a two-legged match"
     Basically, over the course of two games, the team who scores the most goals in total, wins.
     It can get a little tricky, though. In the case of a tie, the team that has scored the most away goals, is declared the victor.

Example:
The Hawks defeat the Pythons 2-1 at Python Stadium.
In the next match:
The Pythons come to Hawk Arena and win 1-0.
This leaves the aggregate:
Hawks 2-2 Pythons .
Both of the away teams won but,
The Hawks scored 2 goals on the road.
The Pythons scored 1 home and 1 away.
Both teams totaled 2 goals each but,

The Hawks win the tiebreaker.

So don't be confused by seeing 2 scorelines on your tv. The aggregate is the most important one to watch. The away goal rule only applies if it ends in a draw.

Watch the three remaining MLS clubs in the CONCACAF Champions League starting with the Seattle Sounders v Tigres tonight ( Tue 3/12) and Santos Laguna v Houston Dynamo and LA Galaxy v Herediano tomorrow night (Wed 3/13).

World Soccer: The FA Cup

With the growing US Television interest in world football, there is more and more opportunity to follow the rest of the world's soccer every day from right here in the states.

There is a major league in just about every region of the world and a prestigious cup to go with each one of them. Much like the World Cup, these competitions are played to decide the best of the best in professional soccer.

As, I type, I'm watching Manchester United vs West Ham United in the 3rd Round of possibly my favorite competition in club soccer, the FA Cup.

Here's more about the FA Cup on Wikipedia.

The Football Association, centered in England, features the world famous Barclay's Premier League as well as several other "minor leagues" throughout England. My favorite part about the FA Cup? No matter which league you're in, you have a shot at the glorious FA Championship!

Could you imagine a tournament where Minor League teams like the Durham Bulls and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes have a shot to take down the World Series Champion, San Francisco Giants or the legendary New York Yankees? That's the idea with this competition across the pond. Exciting, right?

On top of all that, these matches are played throughout the duration of the regular season, with the Final being played on the first Saturday after the Premier League wraps.

Will one of the "minnows" have chance to be a "giant-killer" in 2013?

Look for matches in the next few months on ESPN, Fox Sports and BeIn Sports.

Others worth looking into are also the Euro League and UEFA Champions League Cups.

Dear Chicago,

I Love You.

I guess I should thank Italy for inventing it and New York for harboring it and even though we've never been formally introduced, Chi-Town, I'm sure that I love you for it. The Chicago-Style Deep Dish Pizza may be the greatest food ever invented.

Since it washed up on the shores of our east coast many years ago, America has embraced the pizza pie. Golden crust, zesty tomato sauce, melted cheese and just about anything edible you can imagine, we have taken the idea and run with it.

From the Ham and Pineapple of a Hawaiian pizza to the huge slices of New York style pepperoni pizza and plenty of city renditions in between, I can't find a better style (and I love them all) than the original Chicago Deep Dish.

From the bottom of my heart.

Dear Porkchaulk,

I don't have much time for a short letter so, I might run long on this one. My apologies if reading me becomes excessive. I will do my best to stay on topic.

I felt the need to communicate to you the differences in science pertaining to the optics of both yours and mine, respectively.

In particular, I wanna cover colors and light reception.

As a canine, you lack a function that humans are afforded that perceives a section of the light spectrum, specifically red and green. You got mostly blues, yellows and greys goin on.

I understand the irony of bringing to attention the concept of a color that, as far as you know, doesn't exist but, humor me. These colors are real. I see them, anyway.

In effect, you are missing out on one of the most vital pieces of information required to fully understand the maximum beauty of the world around us. For instance, you can't understand the correlation of emotion that psychologist know invoke emotions such as passion and "seeing that forest for what it is".

Yea, your missin out on the entertainment front.

It's not all bad for you, though. I mean, if you never actually read this, you'll never even miss my point. Moreover, you also have an advantage of sight compared to my eyes in the dark. You basically have night-vision, don't you? Cool!

You've got extra receptors that allow you to process light much more efficiently than we do. I can only imagine how foolish you must believe we are, watching us stumble the length of your front yard with no lights on when the stars are up.

Which begs the question, can you look up? I mean, you know that there's stars and a moon right? That big bright ball? Your cousins won't shut up about it! We'll discuss it later.

USB Device Not Recognized by Windows XP

I need some help with my pc. After websearching the issue, I see that there are lots of people with this problem. Unfortunately, I still haven't found a solution.

If you have answers, please leave a comment. I will include you in the original post.

I've been running Windows XP on my eMachines T4155 for almost 10 years. As a digital artist, I use this pc for everything, especially disk space.

I've been using my old iPod as a removable disk to transfer pics and audio from my newer pc to store on this eMachine.

When I plug in the iPod, Windows gives this error message:

"One of the USB devices has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it"

The USB laser mouse works just fine. I've also tried a card reader, a smartphone and a tablet and all get the same error message.

I'm not sure what else to do. The mouse works in all ports but, nothing else is being recognized.

Got any ideas?

Hopefully, we can take this from "PC problem" to a "Helpful Post" for others in the same boat.

I have affinity for my sports and my country. I'm proud of the Red, White and Blue and I love soccer.

I am particularly proud of the advancement of USA's Major League Soccer. They have slowly but, surely built a sense of identity for these States to be proud of in the World Arena known as futbol.

With the explosion of digital media, such as mp3, mov, jpeg, zip and rar, what once took entire warehouses of storage space and multiple trucks and equipment to process can be picked up and carried as simply as cell phone.

Now that smart phones have revolutionized the mobile technology industry, businesses can not only "carry" their entire operation in the palm of a hand but, now they can operate that business efficiently and effectively from that same piece of equipment in their fingertips.

This is no excuse to have some sort of physical merchandise for your following. Even with hundreds of mp3s and movs to distribute digitally, if you're not appealing to the physical sense of TOUCH in your fanbase you are already losing them. They will hear and see you and you will have their attention for the moment but, when the song is finished, so are you.

Humans like to feel security. We want to know that we are in complete control. Holding on to a piece of paper gives us something to do with our hands, something to look at. Now, I'm sure a psychologist could go deeper in comparison of different sizes, shapes and textures to states of emotion....cause and effect but, most importantly when spending money, "having something to hold in my hands afterwards is appealing."

In conclusion, I don't believe that this "digital boom" is just a fad. It's not going to go away. iTunes, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and sites like that will be around for a loooong time BUT, what I'm saying is, don't throw out those cd's and tapes just yet. Once the electro-shock of digital media wears thin, they will need something to bring them back to "the booklet". They will want to see photos of you, read your words and see what designs you chose. They will need something to connect to on a level that digital media just can't reach.

It will never be the same but, it's never going away.
