New Illustration and Updates

2014-08-15T01:29:00.000-05:00

So a while ago I came across a Reddit post about a bakery in Ayr, Scotland. They had marvelous images of pastries and I was so inspired that I contacted them :) I've been crazy busy, so I wasn't able to work on any pieces until recently, but here is the first one, a delicious fresh fruit tart with a vanilla pastry cream :)

Here is the link to more info on this amazing bakery La Petite Patisserie

Prints available at my Etsy shop

I'm also currently working on a coffee gateau acrylic painting on a canvas, from the same lovely bakery, here is a sneak peak:

Pottery Painting, Tea Pot

2014-01-27T16:32:00.003-06:00

I just picked this up today! So I haven't painted pottery since I worked at a pottery painting studio one summer in college. I went here in Bend with an art group that I belong to. I kinda just started to doodle on the tea pot and then my little doodle became more complicated and took more time than I anticipated. But, super happy how it turned out :) Something a little different than my normal stuff, more along the lines of the cobra I painted a while back.

Kale and a Beet

2014-01-26T14:59:00.002-06:00

Here is a commission that I recently painted of a beet and a piece of kale. Super happy with the final result! I love painting food so much.

In-process Painting: for Gut Feelings Musician Recipe Zine

2014-01-17T14:46:00.003-06:00

So I thought that I would share an in-process pic of a piece I am creating and am really excited about!

Here is a bit about the project that the piece is for:

"Gut Feelings is a bi monthly illustrated food and culture zine. We have a different theme for every issue that loosely ties together all the articles, recipes and illustrations.

Our February issue is music themed and to accompany it we are putting together a whole zine of recipes that have been kindly contributed to us by our favourite musicians. "

They put together a kickstarter to fund this awesome project. For a list of all the awesome bands contributing recipes and a list of the illustrators involved click here! If you are interested in a copy, you can pledge £6 (9.86 US Dollars).

I am illustrating a recipe contributed by the band Bastille, which is crazy exciting because I'm currently obsessing over their amazingness (obligatory link to their amazingness)!!

Reddit Gets Drawn

2014-01-05T22:09:00.001-06:00

So I'm kinda ridiculously addicted to reddit.com. There is a subreddit called Reddit Gets Drawn where anyone can post photos and artists can use them as reference, and draw what people post. So a couple times, when i've felt like sketching, I drew a couple posts. I also linked to the original posts, in case you are interested :)

New Custom Shoes

2014-01-05T21:25:00.001-06:00

Here are two pairs of custom shoes that I've done recently. The Korra pair I did as a gift for my brother's girlfriend :) She's a fan and so am I, so they were super fun to work on. For the second pair, I was commissioned to paint a pair depicting the horse that the girl commissioning the shoes rides, named 'Jafe'.

I love painting shoes, they are so much fun!! And I love that people can wear them and show them off :)

Charlie wanted in on the photoshoot haha!

Rising Temperature, Pepper Scale

2013-11-15T15:08:00.003-06:00

I am super excited to share this project with you! It took about a month, and there are around 350 peppers. The peppers start as mild at the bottom of the painting and get spicier as you go up.

12in x 36in Acrylic on canvas.

Maine Series

2013-11-03T20:15:00.002-06:00

I did these illustrations a while back for the graphic designer Lizzy Dabczynski-Bean, for a calendar project about the state of Maine. I illustrated Maine's state bird (the chickadee), animal (the moose), flower (the white pine), and state fruit (blueberries).

Huntington Lake Shoes

2013-05-28T12:13:00.004-05:00

I was commissioned to paint a pair of shoes for a family friend. Every year a large group of us go camping at Huntington Lake, California (a previous illustration I did of this amazing place). She wanted one shoe to represent a calm morning kayak trip, and the other shoe to show sailing, later in the day when the wind picks up. On the kayak shoe, I added a detail of a bald eagle flying away with a fish, an event that she witnessed one year.

I love painting shoes! Im really happy with how these turned out!! :)

If you are interested in your own pair of commissioned shoes, please contact me alicia.k.severson@gmail.com.

Arya, Game of Thrones

2013-05-28T11:48:00.001-05:00

I am crazy obsessed with this show!
I recently got my friend hooked, and she started posting GoT drawings. I have been so crazy busy packing and getting our house ready to sell, that I could only stare enviously at her epic drawings. Our house is now sold, and I now have some free time!! :) I decided to draw my fave character from the series, Arya.

Sketches of a couple Girls

2013-03-09T00:17:00.001-06:00

Here is a sketch I did of a girl (with a little color editing ;) ). I wanted to practice drawing hair. It is definitely one area I feel like there is definite room for some improvement. Next step, I need to tackle some fabric (tap into my inner Xandra!).

I am also currently watching, well re-watching for the hundredth time, ALIAS. Love that show. Also on a side note, super stoked for J.J. Abrams to take on Star Wars! Love him. SLUSHO! Well, I started deliriously sketching Sydney Bristow at 3 in the morning with watercolor. I finished up the sketch in photoshop one day when I was more awake. I just received Game of Thrones season 2 on blu-ray in the mail, maybe there will be some late night delirious dragon sketches coming soon lol.

Projects for Friends

2013-03-08T23:59:00.002-06:00

So I recently seem to have taken on a buch of projects to give to my wonderful friends.

First, I would like to share this large (around 20-25 inches wide) watercolor painting that I created as a wedding gift for my friend Katy and her Husband, Matt. A little different from my normal illustrations, but I am very pleased with the result. This is the spot where he proposed :)

Here is the picture hanging on their wall in their home :) Lookin framed and lovely.

Here is a project that I did for her sister, Emily, whom is also my friend. Emily commissioned me to paint a piar of shoes. She gave me the concept of salsa and blues dancing, so I just went with it! (I'm currently working on a pair of shoes for their mother)

Since I am sharing shoe pictures, I don't think that I ever posted, here on my blog, pictures of the shoes I painted for my brother as a gift. These are not im my illustration style. I adapted a Calvin and Hobbes comic. This is the project that led Emily to ask me to paint her a pair. They also got on the front page of reddit, just sayin, haha.

Lastly, I thought that I would share this gift I gave to my friend Kevin. He loves Zelda. Last fall we went to go see the Houston Symphony preform Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses (which was spectacular). This inspired me and for his christmas/birthday gift I painted him a 16 x 20 inch canvas of the Skyward Sword cover, with acrylic. Again, not in my illustration style, but good practice, and I am pleased with the end result! Took forevers.

(Zelda is copyright Nintendo and Calvin and Hobbes is owned by Bill Watterson. These projects were only used for gifts)

Digital Painting and Sketching

2013-03-08T23:30:00.005-06:00

I decided to practice digital painting in photoshop. I ended up using these two as the backgrounds of a couple playlists on my 8tracks account (if you like dubstep-ish and electronic musics feel free to check them outs! Two of my playlists have gold status, meaning, hopefully I have semi good taste lol).

I also did my christmas card this year in photoshop (special guest star miss Charlie). "Wishing you a wonderful christmas, full of smothering love!"

A Successful Failure

2013-03-08T23:19:00.003-06:00

Another type project, yay! I originally created this to be used as my new header for my website, blog, business cards, resume, etc. Unfortunately, it did not hold up very well scaled down. So unfortunately I couldn't use it. Just because it failed at its original purpose doesn't mean I still dont LOVE it and am really pleased with how it turned out :)

Tattoos

2013-03-08T16:00:00.001-06:00

Here are a couple tattoos I designed for friends. I added the leaves on the tiger lilly right before I gave her design, thus why they are not in the drawing, but on the actual tattoo. :)

Here is a design, I did for another friend, with some lettering I did of the quote "rise and rise again, until lambs become lions". I'm not sure if she has got the actual tattoo yet :)

I'm back!

2013-03-08T00:00:00.000-06:00

So I disappeared off the face of the earth for a while! Not really :) I just have had a very very busy past year with moving, starting a new job, helping my parents get ready to sell our house in preparation to move to Oregon, and other such things.

I'm now trying to get caught back up. First up on the list, I finally revamped my website and blog. I wanted to simplify the design, make it versatile and sleek. Soooo... voila, here it is!

And even though I haven't been posting anything, I have actually been working on some art projects here and there. In the next week or so, I will also be adding images of some of the things I've been working on. Stay tuned!!
