EUCLID, Ohio -- Is something eerie over Lake Erie? A local man said he spotted a UFO and he believes it's proof we're not alone. "Absolutely nothing we have on this earth even looks like that," said Eugene Erlikh.

Eugene said the unexplained lights appeared outside his house in Euclid over five nights. "It was such a brilliant beam of different lights, it was going red, yellow, green, blue. It was never the same color it was always, like it was pulsating."

The unidentified flying objects remain unidentified. No one knows what they were, including the 20-year old student who admits it's hard to believe. Carla Jackson is a non-believer. "I mean, we're not too far from Canada, it could've been a light show over there or something, somebody playing."

"Once you see it with your own eyes," said Erlikh. "You're gonna say 'Wow, what's going on here' and why do they keep coming back in the same spot?"

It's not the first time someone said they saw something over the skies of Cleveland. In 2007, a group of people downtown said they saw what they thought was a UFO over Key Tower. And according to the National UFO Reporting Center, many additional sightings in Cleveland have been made in the past.

"Camera trick," said Carla Jackson. "I have to be there to actually see it."

But Erlikh wonders, "Why are they there? Why do they keep coming back, the same time, the same area? There is absolutely no reason."

The U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard and several local police departments did not receive any additional reports of sightings.

Thousands of UFOs have been spotted in the last 20 years around the UK, according to newly released documents.

More than 6,000 pages of reports describe people's experiences with unidentified flying objects between 1994 and 2000.

They include reported sightings over Chelsea Football Club and former home secretary Michael Howard's Kent home.

Details have been released under a three-year project between the Ministry of Defence and The National Archives.

The fifth instalment to be released consists of 24 files of sightings, letters and Parliamentary questions, which are available to view online.

The reports detail how objects of various shapes and sizes have been witnessed flying over a range of locations.

Some drawings by witnesses have also been released.

One man told police he was physically sick and developed a "skin condition" after an eerie "tube of light" enveloped his car in Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent, on 27 January, 1997.

In another case, a UFO sighted by Boston and Skegness police, in Lincolnshire, was captured on film.

The police reported the sighting to the coastguard, which in turn alerted ships in the North Sea, where a crew reported seeing more UFOs.

Simultaneously, an unidentified blip was picked up on radar over Boston.

Also included in the latest release is a letter from senior MoD official Ralph Noyes, in which he describes seeing a film of UFOs captured by RAF fighter pilots in 1956.

Mr Noyes claims the footage was shown at a secret underground screening arranged for air defence staff at the MoD in 1970.

And a memo reveals how former prime minister Winston Churchill expressed curiosity in "flying saucers" and requested a briefing from his ministers.

He was told in reply that following an intelligence study conducted in 1951, the "flying saucers" could be explained by "one or other" of four causes.

These were known astronomical or meteorological phenomena, mistaken identification of conventional aircraft, optical illusions and psychological delusions, or deliberate hoaxes.

Experts believe the records highlight how shapes of reported UFOs have changed over the last few decades, possibly explained by representations of UFOs in popular culture.

Many reports in this latest file describe aircraft as big, black and triangular in shape with lights along the edges, whereas the predominant form in the 1940s to 1950s was saucer or disc-shaped.

Dr David Clarke, author of The UFO Files and senior lecturer in journalism at Sheffield Hallam University, said: "In the 1950s the next big leap in technology was thought to be a round craft that took off vertically and it's intriguing to note that this is the same period when people began to report seeing 'flying saucers' in the sky.

"In the period the latest file release covers, triangular-shaped US stealth bombers and Aurora spy planes featured heavily on TV, such as The X Files..., and films such as Independence Day released in 1996, and the shape of reported UFOs corresponds.

"It's impossible to prove a direct link between what people are reading and watching and what they report as UFOs but one interpretation could be that the latest advances in technology may be influencing what people see in the sky."

The files are available to download for free for a month from the National Archives website.

Some space buffs reckon it is after seeing this picture sent back by a robot vehicle probing the rocky Red Planet for signs of life.

Enthusiast Nigel Cooper - who has studied thousands of photos taken by Nasa rovers and posted online - said: "It's definitely a creature of some sort."

Mr Cooper, 43, of Grimsby, Lincs, added: "I'm convinced there is life out there."

Two commercial pilots at Milford, NH, watched a spherical grey-silver UFO hovering 70,000 to 80,000 feet over nearby Manchester, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.

The two were working in a Milford garage when they noticed the unusual object in the sky.

"This object hovered stationary for some 30 to 40 minutes," the witness stated. "I have seen high altitude weather balloons and I know that it would be impossible for a weather balloon at that altitude to remain perfectly stationary for even a few seconds even on the calmest of days."

The object then took off to the northeast "at such a high rate of speed it almost appeared to vanish."

Manchester is the largest city in New Hampshire, in Hillsborough County, population 107,219.

The following is the unedited and as yet uninvestigated report filed with MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If New England MUFON investigates and reports back on this case, I will release an update.

On Sept 26th 2009 I was in Milford, New Hampshire just west of Manchester. I was with a friend of mine. We are both highly experienced commercial airline pilots with almost 60 years and 40 thousand hrs of flight experience between us.

Around noon time my friend called me excitedly to the outside of the garage we were working in. He pointed high up in the sky to the northeast of Milford towards a position I would have to say was very nearly overhead the city of Manchester.

As I looked I saw an object that had to be at an altitude of 70 to 80 thousand feet in altitude hovering over the Manchester area.(please keep in mind that we are both experienced pilots used to making accurate judgements of an object's altitude.)

It was spherical in shape and a greyish silver color. This object hovered stationary for some 30 to 40 minutes. I have seen high altitude weather ballons and I know that it would be impossible for a weather balloon at that altitude to remain perfectly stationary for even a few seconds even on the calmest of days

As for the idea of a helicopter, the object's altitude rules that out.(Most helicopters can't hover out of ground effect much above 10 thousand ft. Cerainly none at 70 to 80 thousand ft.) We both watched the object for 30 to 40 minutes and then watched it takeoff to the northeast at such a high rate of speed it almost appeared to vanish. I don't know what this was but I'm pretty damn sure what it wasn't and so is my friend.

UK Releases UFO 6000 Pages Of Sightings

The British government has received thousands of UFO reports over the decades, and Thursday it released the largest amount of documents ever concerning UFO sightings.

The documents, made available online via PDF by the Ministry of Defence and The National Archives, included 6,000 pages from 1994 to 2000. (Click here to see list, download files)

The tales found within cover several elaborate sorts of tales, including a woman's telepathic encounter with bizarre lights, as well as one man's detailed report of a "spherical" object captured on video.

With each report received, the Ministry of Defence often had the same response.

"Our only concern is to establish whether or not they pose a threat to the security of the United Kingdom," stated one letter in 1994.

"Unless we judge that they do, and this has not been the case so far, we do not attempt to investigate further, or to identify whatever might have been seen."

In several cases, the Ministry distanced itself from any theory suggesting alien origin of the objects spotted.

"We are not aware of any evidence that would support the existence of extraterrestrial life," stated another letter.

Sources for the reports include individuals, UFO investigators and sometimes police reports.

The Ministry also explained several sightings in 1994 as being a Virgin Lightships airship.

One of these sightings came from a woman who was driving with her son and spotted something strange through some trees.

"In the brightness of the full moon she saw an elliptical shaped object which was displaying four pairs of white lights at its top, bottom and each end," the report stated.

Another, more bizarre report, suggested the sighting created a "feeling of well-being, as if the object was exuding a sense of 'love and compassion.'"

"A married couple from Brighton were attending a concert at Wembly Stadium, when, at 9.25 p.m., a 'plasma/jellyfish' type of object appeared overhead," the report said.

Since 1959, the Ministry of Defence has received hundreds of UFO sightings each year. According to the documents released, these reports spiked in 1978 with 750 reports. Another 600 were received in 1980.

Sir Winston Churchill On UFO's

The "Churchill Memorandum" was sent from the World War II Prime Minister on July 28 1952 to Lord Cherwell, Secretary of State for Air.

In the note, Churchill wrote: "What does all this stuff about flying saucers amount to? What can it mean? What is the truth? Let me have a report at your convenience."

The response to his memo on August 9 1952, explained that following an intelligence study conducted in 1951 the "flying saucers" could be explained by "one or other" of the following four causes.

A large triangular UFO was seen hovering in the skies above former home secretary Michael Howard's home, according to Ministry of Defence files.

Government correspondence, local newspaper reports and details of an RAF investigation into the sighting near the MP's home near Folkestone, Kent, all feature in UFO files released by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Eyewitnesses in Burmarsh and New Romney saw the ''humming'' object, the size of two passenger planes, near Mr Howard's home on March 8 1997, when he was serving as home secretary for the Conservative government.

Sophie Wadleigh, 25, from Hythe, reported the sighting to the Folkestone Herald.

She told the newspaper: ''It was so peculiar, it all felt really odd and I heard this humming noise.

''As I looked across the field I saw a large triangular shaped flying craft hovering about 300 metres off the ground.''

Ji Lane, 23 and Christopher Lee, 27, also witnessed the incident.

Mr Lane said: ''It was crazy - I was getting a drink in the kitchen when I saw these strange lights in the sky just over the field across the road from our house.''

Mr Lee added: ''It was a lot longer than a plane and moved incredibly quickly - I have no idea what it was and we were both left speechless.''

Further newspaper cuttings reveal Chris Rolfe, co-ordinator of group UFO Monitoring East Kent (UFOMEK), warned at the time the UFO could have been looking for Mr Howard.

Mr Rolfe said: ''It would seem the UFO was disinterested in Sophie, the girl who reported it and watched it for quite a long time.

''This certainly makes it seem like it had a purpose and has left me wondering if its purpose had something to do with Mr Howard.''

UFOMEK compiled its own report on the sighting and sent it to the Prime Minister, Home Office and Ministry of Defence.

An eyewitness account in the UFOMEK report said: ''It was just a huge triangle thing, which was a lot bigger than an aeroplane or anything like that.

''It had lights all around the outside, and this disc attached to the back, and a big light on the front. I pulled up to a stop and as I did it shot off.''

It went on: ''I was really frightened by it and I'm not stupid. I don't believe in anything like that (UFOs). This is not something I've ever seen before or like something we would have built.''

An RAF investigation into the sighting was undertaken, but the findings found nothing unusual The Air Defence inquiry said there was ''no such security incident'' involving Mr Howard or and ''no such military activity reported anywhere, and, specifically, in the Kent/Folkestone area''.

The report added: ''Additional inquiries have confirmed that no unusual or unauthorised air activity, civil or military, was reported or observed in that area on that date.''

MoD responses to queries related to the alleged sighting said there was ''no evidence'' to suggest a security breach.

One letter addressed to an un-named individual said: ''Your letters mention a UFO sighting over the home of the former home secretary Michael Howard, near Folkestone.

''Although the MoD has received reports of an alleged 'UFO' sighting near Michael Howard's home on March 8 1997, MoD Air Defence staff have confirmed that there is no evidence to suggest any unauthorised incursion of the UK Air Defence Region on that date.''

UFO Filmed During Day Over China

An anonymous witness noticed a fast moving triangular UFO crossing the sky above an unknown metropolis somewhere in China. The fast-acting witness to the UFO quickly grabbed for their mobile phone camera and was able to take this blurry footage. Some of China's UFO buffs have argued that this footage, as unclear as it is, constitutes evidence that unidentified flying objects do indeed exist in the skies above us.

This footage has been posted on UFO websites across China and opinions as to the possible identity of the object vary. Most Chinese UFO enthusiasts think that this particular object might be a secret military craft. A minority think it might well be extraterrestrial.

Reports of UFO sightings in the skies above China continue to roll in. Only two weeks ago a number of residents claim to have seen a spherical UFO descend on Shanghai. The above photo, initially thought to have been a hoax, is now regarded as a genuine capture of that object. Chinese Scientists are now planning to add this footage to the long list of images they intend to study in the hop of determining the identities of the objects in question.

Roy Shaw said he first saw the circular craft, with blue and red lights flashing round it, hovering over a park at 10pm.

Then it landed beside a bowling green and a spooky white shape emerged - and began gliding towards him and his border collie Sydney.

Roy, 58, was so terrified he fled for home with his dog, twisting his ankle in his haste.

The UFO sceptic, of Exmouth, Devon, said: "Sydney growled as this shape began to come towards us and we both legged it. I can't believe what I saw."

Roy, who later sketched the spaceship, said it shot off at a 45° angle. He also revealed another dog walker told him he had seen it.

Devon-based UFO expert Nigel Wright said: "This is a really important sighting."

Chilean Government Study UFO Photos

A bright cloud over the ocean, captured by a terrified guard with her cell phone, will be among the recent cases of UFO sightings discussed and debated over by Chilean scientists and authorities at the tourist city of Viña del Mar, where there the "UFO Bicentennial: 200 years of sightings" conference will be held.

The recording, captured in February 2009 in Puerto Montt (1,080 kilometers south of Santiago), shows a possible UFO, and Chilean image analyst, Marcelo Moya, believes it is one of the three most important records in recent times in his country.

UFOs are commonly repported in Chile, and as such the government has decided to re-establish it's 'Committee for the Study of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena (CEFA)', as a department under the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, for analysis of UFO footage from a scientific perspective.

The CEFA is headed by the retired general of the Air Force of Chile Ricardo Bermudez, who will be among the exhibitors at the conference this Thursday and Friday in Viña del Mar. Data and testimonies collected by this institution will be on display including the images below.
Chileans do tend to look up at the sky for is search of UFOs according to Rodrigo Fuenzalida, president of the Association of Research Ovniológicas (AION). He believes this is because "no place in the country exists where they have not witnessed apparitions of UFOs."

Interview Mod's Nick Pope

Recently, GhostTheory had the opportunity to do a brief interview with well known UFOlogist Nick Pope. Nick has been worked for Britain’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) for twenty-one years in several capacities, most notably from 1991 to 1994 investigating UFO claims to assertain MoD interests. Nick has made appearances on many television shows, done many interviews, written four books and is very active within the UFO community. I would really like to thank Nick for taking time out of his busy schedule to answer the following questions:

Q: Nick, I know from our email discussions that you had your reservations about how the public perceives the processes that occur within the media and the press. What would you like to say to clarify this matter?

A: It has been falsely suggested that I deceived people by claiming that a video taken in California in 2008 had been taken in Ireland this year. This is nonsense. The confusion arose because a member of the public sent The Sun two videos he found on YouTube. One had apparently been taken in California, the other in Ireland. It seems that there was confusion over which was which. My only role in any of this was to give the newspaper a couple of brief comments about the footage itself.

Q: Recently, I know you did a quick interview with MSNBC about the Dublin UFO. I was surprised to see that you did not mention that the video might not be accurate. Is there any reason for this?

A: I did mention it. I said that with material like this there are always doubts about whether the footage is real or fake and at the end of the interview I said that with regard to this particular piece of film, there had been controversy about when and where this was taken. The interview has been posted on YouTube so people can check this themselves.

Q: When you review photographs or video, is there a process or guideline that you personally use to examine media in question? Within recent years you have made comments on two other of The Sun photographs, in which one apparently showed a sea gull while in another from a google street view showed nine objects in formation, which can be attributed to a flight of RAF Tornado’s flying in review for the Queen. Do you have any comments about those pictures now?

A: I’ve probably commented on hundreds of photos and videos for dozens of newspapers and magazines. There’s no process. I just tell them what I think. Once or twice, I’ve made mistakes, e.g. where I’ve inadvertently been sent a low-res image.

Q: Do you have any reservations about comments made on any other photographs or video from the past?

A: No. In the media industry here in the UK there’s an old saying that today’s newspaper is tomorrow’s fish & chip paper. The world moves on and I don’t lose sleep over old newspaper stories.

Q: I remember about a year ago a chap over there in Britain claimed he was the reason for the Rendlesham UFO. He made a statement about claiming that his truck of manure caught fire, so he parked it in the woods near the U.S. air base there, thus causing the following clamor. I know I thought it was laughable what was stated, but how did the English population receive the news?

A: The claim didn’t really get that much publicity and wasn’t taken seriously. As we approach the 30th anniversary of the Rendlesham Forest incident we’ll probably see more people jump on the bandwagon and try to write themselves into the story. Having seen all the MoD documents on this case and having conducted a cold case review into it in 1994 I can categorically state that the burning manure truck incident – even if it ever happened, which is far from certain - does not explain what happened at Rendlesham.

Q: What is your opinion of the rise of UFO sightings over the years, throughout the world?

A: Dealing with statistics is difficult. We certainly see more UFO reports, but does this mean there are more sightings, or does it mean that a higher proportion of sightings is being reported, perhaps because the internet makes it easier to report?

Q: Since the Ministry Of Defense publicly stated that is was closing down the “UFO dept”, do you believe that the possibility exists of them just moving their “X files” department to a more secretive sector?

A: In response to a query from a journalist, the MoD press office made an interesting comment. The quote was published in The Sun on January 22, in a story that ends with the following: The MoD defended its decision to shut the UFO division. A spokesman said: “We do not feel there is any military value in reviewing the public’s sightings”. The key point is that the quote didn’t say there was no military value in reviewing UFO sightings – only that there was no military value in reviewing the public’s UFO sightings. Where evidence suggests that UK airspace has been penetrated by an unidentified object, this must automatically be of defense interest and should be investigated properly, not least because such activity may be espionage or terrorism related. So to answer your question, I’m sure that sightings from pilots and uncorrelated targets tracked on radar will continue to be looked at, albeit outside of a formally constituted UFO project. That’s certainly the implication of the comment from the MoD press office. On the one hand, this is understandable and it’s clear that the vast majority of sightings reported by the public were misidentifications of ordinary phenomena or objects – largely, in recent years, Chinese lanterns. On the other hand, it’s patronizing to assume that no useful information could ever come from the public and it’s unscientific to ignore data.

Q: In your opinion, which country’s government is more liberal with UFO information? Brazil is taking an active role in UFO information declassification; will they be the first?

A: A number of countries have released UFO files, are in the process of releasing them, or have said that they intend to release them. These include France, Brazil, the UK, Norway, Denmark and New Zealand. However, because none of these files contain a ’smoking gun’ that proves UFOs are extraterrestrial, this is not the “Disclosure” that many ufologists talk about.

Q: Do you think websites such as YouTube help or hinder the efforts of researchers and investigators of UFO’s in regards to the amount of questionable video provided to the general populace? Do you think that fraudulent or fake video’s desensitize people’s perceptions towards UFO’s?

A: It’s a two-edged sword. On the one hand, it provides a medium for people to quickly and easily publicize a sighting. On the other hand, it encourages hoaxing. It’s certainly one of a number of factors that has embedded the UFO phenomenon more firmly in popular culture.

Q: Have you ever researched or investigated into the events that transpired in the Berwyn Mountains some thirty-five years ago? Can you give us a brief about might have occurred there?

A: On January 23, 1974, police and RAF mountain rescue teams in Wales responded to reports of a loud explosion and strange lights in the sky, near the Berwyn Mountains. Conspiracy theorists believe a UFO crashed and the government recovered it and covered up the truth. I’ve seen all the MoD documents on this and I’m afraid the real explanation is rather more prosaic. The events were caused by a combination of a small earthquake and a meteor shower, together with some subsequent hoaxing and exaggeration.

Q: What does the near future hold for Nick Pope?

A: I shall continue to do a mixture of freelance journalism and TV work on a wide range of subjects including the unexplained, conspiracy theories, fringe science, science fiction, space and defense. I’ll also be doing more PR work for a number of film companies, helping promote newly-released films and DVDs.

I was outside having a cigarette and noticed bright lights in the sky coming towards me. I thought they were too bright for a plane and wondered why a plane would be flying this far from the city as we are in the countryside surrounded by hills.

I continued to watch it, and all of a sudden it changed direction in a 90 degree angle. As it seemed quite low I was listening for sound but heard absolutely nothing and it was a very quiet, still night.

I noticed also that the lights got no dimmer as it changed direction and seemed to be the same brightness all around it. I then watched it travel very rapidly over the hills, still very bright. I saw this from front, side, and the back and the lights stayed the same brightness at all angles.

The moon was full and bright and situated in the northeasterly direction. The lights on the object were brighter than the stars, and it was not a reflection of the moon as the lights on the object were too bright.

I was in a bit of shock after I witnessed the whole event. I then called my husband out after the event, as while I was watching the object I didn't want to move or make a sound.

I was in awe as to what I had just seen and described the whole thing to my husband and we went through a list of things it could have been i.e... plane , helicopter, space debris, satellites but none of those applied as there was no noise and too low in the sky for satellites or space debris. We both feel I just witnessed a UFO sighting.

Okay, that might be jumping the gun a little, but a recent discovery by Hubble of an unknown flying object in space has the scientific community puzzled as to just what exactly the projectile might be.

A never-before-seen asteroid or Geth warship? Oh, the possibilities.

Hubble first detected the X-shaped object in late January and clocked it at 11,000 mph. Dubbed P/2010-A2, experts think that what they're looking at could be a comet that was produced out of the collision of two asteroids, even though the object is exhibiting behavior that researchers have never seen before in comets.

"This is quite different from the smooth dust envelopes of normal comets," said UCLA investigator David Jewitt. "The filaments are made of dust and gravel, presumably recently thrown out of the nucleus. Some are swept back by radiation pressure from sunlight to create straight dust streaks. Embedded in the filaments are co-moving blobs of dust that likely originated from tiny unseen parent bodies."

A PILOT has described a “bewildering” close encounter with a pair of low-flying UFOs in Warwickshire.

The two glowing petal-shaped craft silently skimmed along at about 1,500ft – the height of a modern skyscraper – until they disappeared behind clouds.

The qualified pilot, based at Coventry Airport, watched the spectacle unfold from a garden in Rugby.

“I was looking at the stars when a circular object came into view from behind a cloud,” said the man, who asked to remain anonymous.

“The object was very clearly visible and was neither a traditional aircraft nor a balloon.

“It was circular in shape but had a structure which resembled flower petals extending outwards from the centre and the petals where very strongly illuminated and appeared to be glowing as if they were on fire.

“Then overlaid at the centre of the craft was a similar array of petals contained within the radius of the wider array.

“These too were very bright and similarly appeared to be on fire, with a shimmering orange glow. It was a quiet and still evening but there was absolutely no sound.

“Having watched this, totally bewildered, for about 40 seconds, a second identical craft came into view on exactly the same track, heading and altitude as the first, with a separation of a mile.”

The sighting happened on August 31, but has only just been reported.

An Argentinian newspaper reports that people have witnessed the return of UFOs that once mined uranium in the Frías area. In fact, this image is a cell phone snap of a recent UFO visit to the region.

Santiago del Estero was graced yet again by a new sighting of an unidentified flying object (UFO) framed against the sun, an identical copy to the phenomenon photographed and filmed by a resident of the city of Loreto last Sunday. On this occasion, the sighting occurred in La Banda and was recorded by an 11-year-old using his cellphone.

Fabio Zerpa – an acknolweledged scholar of extraterrestrial phenomena . . . reported that Santiago del Estero is an area of UFO sightings. He recalled at this point that "sightings have been reported in Santiago del Estero since the 1970s, such as the notorious case involving the green UFOs that extracted urnaium from the Frías region, as seams of this mineral can be found in the mineralogy maps of the area. Moreover, Zerpa added: "Contacts with alien objects are all of the first kind (CE-1), but there is no information regarding landings . . . We must have faith in that the witnesses photographed a UFO. But we must also consider that extraterrestrial artifacts come in 164 different shapes. Therefore, we must analyze the photos taken in Santiago to have a better idea of what's going on."

Yesterday's alleged photos of UFO in La Banda were taken by Victor Agustin Vazquez, 11, a 7th grade student.

NASA Has Backs UK Papers UFO Study

NASA has backed The Sun's study of Britain's X-files.

A top scientist from the US labelled the Suns bold bid to record alien activity in the UK as "important".

Cash-strapped Ministry of Defence chiefs secretly axed the department that investigated UFOs last month.

But now The Sun has picked up the baton as strange space sightings are close to an all time high.

American Dr Christopher McKay — a NASA extra-terrestrial investigator — said: "It is important to keep a record of UFOs.

"I think it is only natural as a human to wander whether there is life outside of Earth.

Unexplained

"The public are really interested in the unexplained sightings so it is worthwhile to log them."

Dr McKay — part of NASA's Space Science Division since 1982 — has spent his career looking for extra-terrestrial life.

The planetary scientist was the co-leader of the Mars Phoenix Lander mission in 2008.

The probe dug up chunks of ice on the Martian surface again fuelling hope that living organisms existed on the Red Planet.

And he is busy planning a new mission to Mars in search of life.

He said The Sun's bid to record the UFOs over the UK shared the same the goal he was striving for — to discover alien life forms.

He added: "Tracking UFOs is the same as the interest that I have. My interest is from a scientific viewpoint but I am asking the same question.

"We are both asking the question - are there other life forms out there?"

British Mars expert Professor Colin Pillinger CBE echoed NASA's Dr McKay.

He applauded The Sun for reviving the MoD's UFO project after they shut it down on December 1 2009.

Any sightings in Britain will now NOT be officially recorded because MoD chiefs branded the £50,000-a-year department an "inappropriate use of defence resources".

It came despite the near TRIPLING of alleged UFOs between 2008 and 2009 to 643.

Prof Pillinger headed the Beagle 2 mission to Mars — which eventually ended in failure when the unmanned probe crashed on Christmas Day 2003.

He said: "The Sun is right to keep the UFO files going.

"You have an army of readers who could flag up something extraordinary.

"Even if it is not alien life, it could be a meteorite which are of great value to the scientific community.

"The Sun is right to persist in reporting UFOs.

"Just because we do not understand something does not mean it is not true."

Leading US professor Albert A Harrison, from the University of California, also backed our UFO files.

Prof Harrison — who served with NASA — said: "The reason it is important to report UFOs is because it fascinates people who are interested in possible life in the universe and whether or not we are alone.

"Such surveys can be mined for helpful information and properly conducted research is valuable."

The space watchers were in London for two days of talks at the Royal Society entitled "The Detection of Extra-terrestrial Life and the Consequences for Science and Society".

The Sun re-launched the nation's X-Files last week.

A number of UFO sightings that occurred in Argentina late last week and early this week are making the headlines in that country.A number of residents in the province of Santiago del Estero in Argentina reported seeing UFOs overhead last Sunday as well as this Monday. Some witnesses managed to get photos (above and below).

David Soria of and his daughter Florencia of the town of Loreto were outside their home when they say and photographed a strange object overhead.

'Was it a UFO?, I am not sure' asked David

A resident of the town of Bandera, Marta, was outside hanging clothes to dry when she saw two unusual objects she described as 'cylindrical shaped, very bright and brownish in colour' heading towards a plane.
