A word from Dean;

Yes, I've finally posted a Star Wars character! Many of you have emailed asking about SW stuff, and I always intended to get to it - Truth be told, I envisioned some grand event for the blog with a whole bunch of Star Wars characters and everything, but the idea was so daunting I kept putting it off and putting it off.

At this point though, I just decided (with free time being what it is) to stop stressing about it and just sprinkle in SW stuff where I can, the way I do with most everything else on the blog. Hopefully this is the first in a long list of SW guys I'll be able to share with you.

Anyway, I like Star Wars, but I'm not a real "nerd" for it, y'know? ...So, you guys can feel free to share your ideas and suggestions on SW stuff. Thanks for your patience, all!

I hope Dean gets onto other characters quickly to add to this awesome beginning! My request are R2-D2 and C-3P0. What are yours?

We'll keep a close eye on this one because if it's anything like the awsome HVZ then it's going to "genetically" rock, if the plot is any indication below! I smell mutants!

DVD Review: SCOOBY-DOO! Mystery Inc. "Crystal Cove Curse" Season 1 Part 2

Watching all fourteen episodes of SCOOBY-DOO! Mystery Inc. "Crystal Cove Curse" Season One Part Two brings back a lot of childhood memories. I loved Scooby-Doo cartoons growing up and I still do!

What we get in this new DVD are fourteen fun episodes that follow Scooby and the gang. as they search for the original Mystery Inc. that went missing years back. Yes, this time we get a continuing story line while Fred (Frank Welker), Daphne (Grey DeLisle), Velma (Mindy Cohn), Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and Scooby solve new mysteries and meet up with some interesting monsters while they gather clues as to what actually happened to the original group.

We get the supporting cast of characters who also return like Velma's mom (Frances Conroy), Fred's dad the Mayor (Gary Cole), Sheriff Stone voiced by Patrick Warbutron, Lewis Black voices Mr. E. and even Linda Cardellini lends her voice as Hot Dog Water plus a mysterious new character voiced by Vivica A, Fox who has a secret. There's a lot more surprising guest voices in these episodes!

The animation is always top notch with these cartoons and is one reason why I'm still drawn in after all these years. The stories are still fun and I always look forward to what kind of crazy monster the kids run across in each episode and who the person is behind the mask, like always.

What's so cool about this DVD is you get the fourteen awesome animated episodes that add up to over 300 minutes (YES! OVER 300 MINUTES!) of awesome Scooby-Doo and Mystery Inc. adventures! Here's the run down of episodes; When the Cicada Calls, Mystery Solvers Club State Finals, The Wild Brood, Where Walks Aphrodite, Escape from Mystery Manor, The Dragon's Secret, Night Fright, The Siren's Song, The Menace of Manticore, Attack of the Headless Horror, A Haunting in Crystal Cove, Dead Justice, Pawn of Shadows, and All Fear the Freak. They mix it up with each episode with who the gang runs into and deals with while staying on the main mission the entire time. Some people get lost with continuing story lines but I enjoyed this a lot watching them do their thing and ultimately solving the mystery and find a few new personal discoveries along the way.

Bottom line is I thoroughly enjoyed watching SCOOBY-DOO! Mystery Inc. "Crystal Cove Curse" Season 1 Part 2 on DVD and highly recommend it to kids of all ages! It released on January 24th and you can order HERE. 3.5/5

Synopsis:

Here's the international trailer for Francis Ford Coppola's vampire flick TWIXT. TWIXT. The film is inspired by Edgar Allen Poe and "tells the tale of a burnt-out mystery writer who gets mixed up in murder and evil in a California town.". The film stars Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Elle Fanning, David Paymer and Ben Chaplin. The movie has gotten lots of bad reviews even though the trailer looks pretty good.

Synopsis:

A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He's unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated.

The latest movie from Tony 'Tex' Watt "Acid Head: The Buzzard Nuts County Slaughter" is finding it's way to availability in the very near future, Watt's recent work as a director includes "Vixen Highway 2006" and "Frankpimp". The movie features the director Tony 'Tex' Watt himself, and his preferred heroin and frequent workpartner Vivita playing the lead as Pheromone Labonza and Acid Head. Others starring are Lewis Mercer, Lana Tailor, Elvin Domenic, Paul Nicholls, Adam Schickedanz and many others, and in a cunning cameo as the sneaky reporter Biff Bangs, the only European actor in the film; Kim Sønderholm.

On using the latter, director Tony 'Tex' Watt said: "When our movie about a killer goth-girl needed a main greek chorus-type performer [the character who tells the viewer what is going on], to embody the form of news anchor: Biff Bangs... I, as the Writer/Director needed an internationally appealing actor who was both authoritative and able to carry some of the comedic hyperbole, with dry humor [As Sean Connery did in the early 007 movies]. Versatile actor/filmmaker Kim Sønderholm came to mind as the first choice, as I admired his acting prowess in such films as "Craig", "Tour de Force", "Bleed with Me"; as well as his comedic turn in the 2011 TV series "Goodbye Light". Sønderholm embodied to myself, a brilliant character actor, who was very hard working and tenacious. Working with him, showed me that this charismatic and popular performer was exactly what I perceived, as well as being very humorous and humble."

Idea for the film originally came in 2009, when Award winning Canadian horror author and TV host (Flatline, Post-Mortem, Nightmare in Canada: Canadian Horror on Film) Edo van Belkom's son Luke started filming "Acid Head: The High School Horror" based on a loose script plot the young van Belkom co-wrote with actor/filmmaker Tony 'Tex' Watt. The script's projected budget was originally too high; so Watt decided to shoot an improvised sequel, first, based on situations deriving from his previous script.

Blu-ray Review: THE DEAD

First off. I love this movie! THE DEAD is one of those gems that quietly comes along and stays with you for a long, long time! The horror genre has been needing a zombie movie like this to come along for some time now and The Dead have arrived!

The movie starts off as a plane takes off trying to leave Africa and crashes in the ocean just after take-off leaving one survivor, Lt. Brian Murphy (Rob Freeman). As he swims to shore from the wreckage the viewer is immediately introduced as to why the plane was leaving Africa in rapid fashion because the dead are becoming reanimated and no one is safe and the non-stop action begins. Murphy meets up with a local soldier, Daniel Dembele (Prince David Osei) who is looking for his son. The two decide to travel together on a small agreement. On their journey they continuously run into the dead with every turn they make. The two take out the zombies in a gory and very entertaining style while they hardly ever say a word. Trust me, there's not much dialogue in the movie and it really isn't needed because it's much more fun watching these two guys try and survive from the ever-growing number of zombies that surround them through their entire journey. Ultimately the journey and movie comes to an end and a very dark one that leaves just a hint of hope, or does it? The ending is the only flaw in the movie, it left me wanting more! The one thing that stands out about The Dead and its journey is it's set in a "what if" environment and leaving the viewer thinking just that, "what of this could happen". It's just that good!

The Dead is written and directed by Howard J. Ford and Jon Ford who have put together a modern day genre classic. The camera work and special F/X are also a star in this movie and done supremely well. When I say the F/X are done well, I mean it's a blast watching this and I totally enjoyed the blood and gore in this flick. Hats off to the F/X team! The beautiful African scenery plus filming day and night in this environment also helps set the mood for the story and makes the movie an even better and enjoyable watch. The Dead definitely stands out in an already saturated ocean of zombie movies.

Bottom line is, watching The Dead on Blu-ray was a thrilling watch and is hands down one of the best zombie movies I've seen! I highly recommend this to any genre fan out there wanting a new and really cool watch! It'll releases on February 14th for all the Valentines out there so go buy it! 4/5

Synopsis:
