Local adjustments are a powerful way to control where edits are applied to images. Restricting where they apply greatly expands your creative options in post-production. A good example is darkening a bright sky without touching the rest of the image. This video was made to show you how to make local adjustments like this in Exposure.

Watch it to learn how Exposure’s selection tools operate. We demonstrate how to use brushing, gradients, selections, and color constraints to seamlessly blend the edits you apply. We also show you how you can flexibly mix different tools to create detailed, complex selections in Exposure.

We are always working to share helpful content on our blog. When thinking back over everything we shared this year, a few videos stand out among the others that particularly did a great job providing insight into using our software. The videos below are a few of our favorite tutorials from this year. If you haven’t seen these, check them out.

Black and White Processing

At the top of our list is a video that demonstrates how to convert color images to black and white in Exposure. Converting to a palette of monochrome tones can open up a world of creative possibilities for your work. Exposure provides a complete set of tools to control the process, and has a library of accurate black and white film emulation presets, too.

Getting Started Exposure and Photoshop

Another great video we shared in 2021 demonstrated Exposure’s flexibility. Exposure can handle your entire post processing workflow, but it can also be a Photoshop plug-in if you just need a few creative tools. If you want to use Exposure’s unique creative tools with other photo editors like Photoshop, this video is perfect for you.

Quick Polygon Selections

Among all the tools you can use in Exposure X7, the Polygon Selection tool is listed among the most slick. Our next favorite video from this year demonstrates how to make precise selections using the polygon tool. It’s a lightning fast way to create a layer mask with a few simple clicks.

Snap Art Effects Tour

Up next is an inspiring video about turning your creative vision into reality with Snap Art. There are loads of artistic styles at your fingertips in Snap Art like oil paint, watercolor, and crayon. This video takes you through some of the artistic looks available in Snap Art.

Noise Reduction

And the final video that made the cut teaches just that; how to cut digital noise out of your photos. Noise can ruin important details and can cause distracting blotches of color, so it’s something you want to avoid. This video demonstrates how to reduce the appearance of digital noise in photos with Exposure.

In closing we’d like to thank all of you that watched our videos this year. It’s your views, likes, comments, and opinions that help us learn, develop, and grow. We look forward to continuing to create helpful tutorial videos for you next year.

The Border Marker selection tool introduced in Exposure X7 makes quick work of generating detailed layer masks. We made this video to demonstrate how to use the Border Marker tool to create a selection, refine the selection, and then use that selection for applying editing adjustments.

Using a Border Marker to create a selection in Exposure works great for objects with defined edges. There are numerous tools that refine the selection boundaries, such as Add and Exclude markers or polygons. We also suggest ways to improve the visibility of masks as you’re creating them.

Exposure X7 introduced the Polygon Selection tool, which streamlines the process of making precise selections. We made this video to step you through using the Polygon Selection tool to create a selection, refine the selection, and then use the selection to make editing adjustments.

The Polygon Selection tool can be used in freehand mode, which enables you to trace a simple outline of an object for Exposure to select. There are numerous ways you can then make refinements to the selection boundaries, such as adding points, shifting boundaries, or placing markers to tell Exposure what to include or exclude. We cover all of these topics in the video.

There have been a bunch of great things being said about Exposure X7. If you’re considering upgrading to the new version, check out the following articles to hear what the press is saying about it.

Mike Pasini put Exposure through its paces before posting a review of the new version. There were a load of great things mentioned in the article, but among all the gems this is one of our favorites. After using Exposure for a short time, they said, “In fact, we felt we had mastered the masking tools on our first try. Masking used to require painstaking expertise but with Exposure X7, it’s child’s play.”

Erik on Visuals Producer posted a detailed review of Exposure X7. He was also impressed by the new masking tools, but the new workspaces also grabbed his attention. When customizing the interface for different arrangements, Erik said, “Again, it offers much more flexibility than any other editor I know.”

Anthoni Morganti posted a video review of Exposure X7. He does a quick demonstration of how the new masking tools work and points out a few others. When working with the masking tools, Anthoni said, ”I think these are really powerful tools that have been introduced in this version. And they are welcomed additions.”

Additionally, Italian journalist Alessio Fabrizi said in a review in Fotografia Moderna that Exposure is “one of the best services to be able to edit RAW photos directly with very interesting presets.”

Thank you again to everyone that helped make Exposure X7 possible. It took more than just the people on our team. We also want to thank our beta testers, photographers that shared their work with us, our social media followers, and everyone who made suggestions and requests about how to improve Exposure over the years.

Exposure X7 is coming together nicely, and it’s almost complete. One of the exciting features coming in the latest version is a powerful new way to make selections. We introduced the Polygon Selection tool, which helps you make selections quick and easy. This video demonstrates how it works.

The Polygon Selection tool provides a simple, yet powerful set of controls for creating selections in Exposure. You can quickly draw an outline of an object in just a few clicks and Exposure will select it for you. Make refinements at any time by moving the points, adding more, or placing markers to designate areas to include or exclude from the selection.

Exposure X7 will be here soon. Our blog is the best place to get more information about the release. It’s a great time to purchase Exposure X6 if you don’t own it already. If you purchase Exposure X6 now, we will send you a copy of Exposure X7 when it’s released.

This video demonstrates how to incorporate LUTs in your Exposure workflow. LUTs, or Look-Up Tables, contain color grading recipes that transform the colors in your photo. LUTs can reproduce cinematic looks used in Hollywood blockbusters, or they can be used to achieve a variety of creative styles. You can download free LUTs from the Internet, or you can create custom LUTs using other photo or video editing apps.

Watch the video and learn all about using LUTs in Exposure. You’ll see how to import them, find the right LUT, select from a list, or search them by name. We also demonstrate how to adjust the strength of the LUTs you apply, and how to creatively blend multiple LUTs in non-destructive layers.

It’s a great time to be an Exposure user, especially with all the great enhancements coming in Exposure X7. One of the exciting improvements is a change to the way you crop images. We’ve unified the crop and transform panels to provide a more straightforward way to compose photos. We made this video to demonstrate what that means for your workflow.

The redesigned interface provides a streamlined level of control for changing crop ratios, correcting perspectives, or adding film borders without covering too much of the image. Additionally, the new visual overlay guides like the golden triangle or golden section give you new creative composition options.

Exposure X7’s new crop and transform tools create a special crop and transform layer. You can move this layer up and down in the layer stack to control exactly when crop and transform is applied.

Exposure X7 will be here soon. Stay tuned to our blog for more news about the release. And, it’s a great time to purchase Exposure X6 if you don’t own it already. If you purchase Exposure X6 now, we’ll send you Exposure X7 for free when it’s released.

Keywords are words or short phrases that you assign to images for organizing purposes. They make it easy to find specific images, no matter how large your library is. We made this video to demonstrate how to apply keywords in Exposure to index images with your own style of organization.

Watch the video and learn about all the benefits of applying keywords in Exposure. We show how to create a simple list of keywords and how to create a hierarchy by nesting keywords within other keywords. This is particularly useful in situations where large numbers of photos need to be quickly searched, like photojournalism, event, and stock photography.
