Cisco Says New Router to "Forever Change the Internet": The Question Is 'When?'

Editor's note: Cisco made headlines today announcing a next generation router that will revolutionize the internet by increasing downloads to unheard of speeds. The Cisco press release makes the following claims about the CRS-3 router:

It enables the entire printed collection of the Library of Congress to be downloaded in just over one second; every man, woman and child in China to make a video call, simultaneously; and every motion picture ever created to be streamed in less than four minutes.

Tech Ticker interviewed Kelly Ahuja, Cisco Senior Vice President and General Manager Service Provider Routing Technology Group about the new product this afternoon. He answered all our questions but one: When will consumers be able to take advantage of this new high speed internet? Perhaps that's because that part of the equation is up to our internet service providers. Until they upgrade it might as well all be a dream.

Cisco today announced a new version of its key routing system, which the networking giant said has a dozen times the traffic capacity of competitors and three times as much as the company’s previous version.

Cisco’s CEO John Chambers said the CRS-3 Carrier Routing System is aimed at the huge growth in video on the Internet, a trend that has also caused slowdowns.

Pankaj Patel, SVP and GM for the service provider business, claimed the system could in just a few minutes deliver all the movies ever made or allow everyone in China to make a video phone call at once.

It had better. The consumption of video online is growing like crazy and a constant bottleneck is likely without some relief.

“Video brings the Internet to life,” said Chambers. “You are moving from a messaging platform to a video platform.”

Along with Chambers and Patel, AT&T (T) Labs CEO and President Keith Cambron was on the call discussing deployment trials the telecom giant has been doing with the CRS-3. CRS-3 (pictured here) will be available within the calendar year, said the Cisco execs on a press and analyst call this morning.

Cisco had said weeks ago that it was making “a significant announcement that will forever change the Internet and its impact on consumers, businesses and governments.”

Significant? We’ll see, of course. For sure, it was a highly hyped announcement by Chambers. But due to the speculation about what Cisco was unveiling, its stock hit a 52-week high yesterday. It dropped slightly this morning after the call.

Many others are getting into the high-speed act on the Web. Google (GOOG) said recently that it is planning on building a superfast broadband service. In addition, the Federal Communications Commission is set to unveil its own ambitious plan to improve high-speed Internet access across the United States.

Cisco has gotten deep into the video business of late, both in pushing its networking gear and in acquiring a video device maker like Pure Digital, the company behind my beloved Flip digital camera.

It is also working on innovative holographic and television-based home telepresence technologies.

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation day approached, the young man waited signs that his father had purchased the car, finally on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into a private room. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him
He handed a beautiful wrapped gift box, Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man opened the box and found a lovely leather-bound Bible with the young man’s name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said,” With all your money you give me a bible? And walk out of the house leaving the Bible.
Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family but realized his father was very old and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day, before he could make arrangement he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.
When he arrived at his father’s house sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father’s important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago with tears; he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse.
Matt 7:11 “ And if ye, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him? As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation and the words… PAID IN FULL.

Gantt chart

A Gantt chart is a type of bar chart that illustrates a project schedule. Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish dates of the terminal elements and summary elements of a project. Terminal elements and summary elements comprise the work breakdown structure of the project. Some Gantt charts also show the dependency (i.e, precedence network) relationships between activities. Gantt charts can be used to show current schedule status using percent-complete shadings and a vertical "TODAY" line as shown here.

Although now regarded as a common charting technique, Gantt charts were considered revolutionary when they were introduced. This should be one of the main considerations when looking at a potential candidate. You need to determine how much experience he or she has working from home. It is imperative that you insist on and check references. Be sure that the experience listed matches what you are seeking. A candidate may have substantial experience in word processing but if you’re looking for assistance in bookkeeping, then you probably need to consider someone else.
Integrity
This trait is particularly important if your Assistant will be dealing with confidential information. Again, reference checks are invaluable and a background check should be considered when client confidentiality is important.
Professionalism
While this is always important in the business world, it’s probably even more so when you are relying on someone you may never personally meet. If your will be dealing with clients via the phone or email, it is imperative that they are able to conduct themselves in a professional manner. How do they conduct themselves on the phone? Do they have a pleasant speaking voice and use proper grammar? A thorough interview as well as a writing assessment can help you make this determination.
Technical Skills
A they needs to have all of the software, hardware and technical abilities that are required for the task at hand. Do not assume that just because the candidate applied for the position that he or she has all of the necessary equipment to do the job effectively.
Initiative
it’s a good idea to see how assertive he or she will be. Is the candidate a self-starter? Do they think “outside the box” or are they timid and need a lot of guidance? You will want to ask how they handle obstacles or difficulties in completing a task and how they manage their time when working from home.
A lot of characteristics make up an excellent and trying to find the candidate that is just right for your business can be a tricky one.

CULTURE

Culture is not a big deal in virtual company, because everybody is dependent on each member meeting their objectives. Success or failure is shared by the whole team, so it incentivises the team to work together towards the same objective and with one insurance policy.

Communication is defined as a process by which we assign and convey meaning in an attempt to create shared understanding. This process requires a vast repertoire of skills in intrapersonal and interpersonal processing, listening, observing, speaking, questioning, analyzing, and evaluating. If there is one unifying theme that crosses all disciplines, it is communication. Communication is our window to basic literacy and academic excellence. Reaching levels of excellence and accuracy of expression mandate mastery of formal English. These are the capabilities that cultivate the potential in each student and the possibilities for our future.

Chat etiquette is not limited to just online games. I mean, it’s universal. Aside from in-game chat, there are IMs, private and public chat rooms, etc. In this day and age, chat is now a valid medium of communication. You use it everyday.

If you want to be respected, you have to respect everyone you chat with. It (respect) is not bought, it is earned. This is especially true in chat since the written word carries “no tone”.

Allow me to share with you some few pointers and tips on chat etiquette.

GM T’s CHAT ETIQUETTE TIPS AND NOTES

* No Tone - like I said, chat has “no tone” (not unless you’re using voice, of course). You have to be careful with the manner in which you use your words. Pay attention to how you construct your sentence and be wary of your punctuation.
* Don’t shout - ALL CAPS IS SHOUTING. Got that? Don’t do it. It’s impolite.
* Always be polite - Don’t be an @$$! Remember to say “thank you” and “Please”. That goes a long way.
* Don’t be sarcastic - never comment just for the sake of commenting. Respect each others’ opinion. If you have to explain something, do so in a polite and professional way.
* Think before you hit enter - put yourself in the shoes of the one who will receive it. If you wouldn’t want to read such trash. Don’t send it.
* If they don’t want to chat, don’t force them - players (and of course, people) do things differently and on separate times. I mean, they MAY be busy. So if they don’t answer. Don’t force the issue. They may be AFK (Away From Keyboard) for all we know.

Forum Etiquette

Forums are an amazing place for us to have discussions. Forums include even the quietest students and provide all students with a decent amount of time to think about their responses. It takes students a bit of training to be able to use forums for school, so I usually start them with a simple conversation topic so they can get used to working in the forums.

Below are a few guidelines for use of Moodle forums. Some definitions you may need:

Post: Any message posted to the forum
Subject: The title of a post
Thread: A string of posts, all replies, or replies of replies, to an original post
Topic: The subject of the original post that starts a thread - i.e. what the thread is about
No 'flaming' - in other words, avoid personal attacks, pettiness, abuse. Respect other users, and if you disagree with them, explain why.
No 'trolling' - trolls are posts deliberately designed to provoke an angry response. That doesn't mean you can't be controversial, if you really mean it.
No personal disputes - if it gets personal, take it offline.
Don't be patronising or sarcastic. It comes across about ten times worse online.
Avoid typing in ALL CAPS, which is considered shouting or yelling.
Learn to let go - don't keep harping on about the same thing, or harking back to previous arguments. It is rarely productive to do so, and you always end up going round in circles.
If someone else's post offends you, don't immediately fight back online. Consider whether they really meant to cause offence. It can be easy to sound rude without meaning to, especially if English is not your native language. However, if you really are troubled by the post, don't respond - take it to your lecturer instead.
Post in the most appropriate forum (and only in one forum).
Stay on topic - try to focus on the original topic. In particular, don't change subject in the middle of an existing thread - just start a new topic.
Conversely, don't start a new topic if your post relates to an existing one - reply to the existing thread instead. Make sure you reply to the appropriate post, not just the last post in the thread
When starting a new topic, make the subject line clear and informative. It makes the topic easy to find.
Make sure you're understood, even by non-native English speakers. Try to write full sentences, and avoid text-message abbreviations or slang.
If asking a question, provide as much information as possible, what you've already considered, where you've already read etc.
Read what's already there before posting. You may be repeating what others have already said or asked.

Today, the community of Internet users includes people who are new to the environment. These "Newbies" are unfamiliar with the culture and don't need to know about transport and protocols. In order to bring these new users into the Internet culture quickly, this Guide offers a minimum set of behaviors which organizations and individuals may take and adapt for their own use. Individuals should be aware that no matter who supplies their Internet access, be it an Internet Service Provider through a private account, or a student account at a University, or an account through a corporation, that those organizations have regulations about ownership of mail and files, about what is proper to post or send, and how to present yourself. Do not write or respond to personal insults via email.
Do not use all capital letters in email.
Know if an email address is for one person or a group of people before sending email.

The BCC: field is for emails sent to a large number of people, not a certain individual.
Do not continue to cc people if the message has become a two way conversation.
Do not bcc an email addressed to a specific person, it is talking behind someone’s back.
Do not give out anyone's email address without their explicit permission to do so.
Make sure the subject line is descriptive or strong.
Include the word long in the subject line if the email is long.
Write your most important statement first.
Use small paragraphs to convey thoughts.
Use bullet points often.
Do not send email attachments with information that can fit in the body of an email.

(Reuters) - The World Health Organization and UNICEF said Thursday China's contaminated milk powder scandal was "deplorable" as more countries in Asia and Europe banned imports of Chinese milk products. Here are some questions and answers on China's widening toxic milk scandal and the people and companies it is affecting:

WHAT IS MELAMINE? -- Melamine is a white powder used in plastic-making. It was first synthesized by a German scientist in the 1830s.

WHAT IS IT USED FOR? -- Its most common form, melamine resin, a mix of melamine and formaldehyde, is used in the manufacture of Formica, floor tiles, whiteboards and kitchenware.

WHY ADD MELAMINE TO MILK POWDER? -- Melamine is rich in nitrogen, and relatively cheap. Adding it to sub-standard or watered-down milk makes the milk's protein level appear higher. Standard quality tests estimate protein levels by measuring nitrogen content.

IS THIS WHY IT WAS ADDED TO PET FOOD? -- Yes. Melamine was linked to the deaths of cats and dogs in the United States last year after it was added to wheat gluten and other pet food ingredients exported from China, in another attempt to boost the products' apparent protein content.

WHO HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THE TOXIC MILK? -- So far four infants have died in China, and about 13,000 more have been hospitalized after drinking the contaminated milk. -- Four Hong Kong children have also become sick after consuming toxic Chinese milk powder. -- More than 80 percent of the sick are under two years old. Young babies that depend solely on milk are most vulnerable.

WHAT ARE THE LONG-TERM HEALTH EFFECTS? -- Little scientific information exists about the compound's effects on humans. However, even if victims who have developed have kidney stones due to tainted milk consumption have these removed, the melamine could crystallize in small kidney tubes and block connecting ducts, resulting in kidney damage or even renal failure, health experts fear.

WHICH COUNTRIES ARE AFFECTED? -- More than 20 mostly Asian and African countries -- Bangladesh, Bhutan, Britain, Brunei, Burundi, Canada, China, France, Gabon, Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Tanzania, Togo, Vietnam, and Yemen -- have all either pulled products off shelves, banned China dairy imports, or stepped up their tests.

WHICH CHINESE COMPANIES ARE IMPLICATED? -- 22 Chinese companies have been listed as producing the tainted milk powder.

WHICH JOINT VENTURES ARE INVOLVED? -- New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra, the business partner of Sanlu Group, China's top seller of infant milk powder and the first to go public with melamine contamination, has cut the value of its 43 percent stake in Sanlu to about $42 million. It said the writedown reflected the damage done to Sanlu by the scandal. -- Danish-Swedish dairy cooperative Arla's Chinese joint venture Mengniu Arla's baby formula is also implicated.

Si Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao ay mas kilala sa Pangalang “Manny”. Siya ay simpleng tao lamang na isinilang noong December 17, 1978 sa Kibawe Bukidnon Mindanao. Siya ay nakatira ngayon sa General Santos City.

Maraming mga tao ang nag iidolo sa kanya dahil kilala sa pagiging magaling ng boksengero. Sa ngayon hawak niya ang mga titulong ito: Sa ngayon siya ang WBC Lightweight Champion, WBC Super Featherweight Champion, former Ring Magazine's featherweight champion, world champion IBF Super Bantamweight, WBC Flyweight divisions.
