Pujian yang fana

Siapa sih yang tidak senang dipuji? Apabila kita merasa sukses di salah satu bidang, tentunya wajar dong kalo kita ingin dipuji oleh keluarga, teman, atau orang lain. Apalagi kalau kita adalah orang yang terkenal (seperti artis atau tokoh politik ternama) pujian dan sanjungan adalah barang mutlak yang mesti kita dapat.

Sebetulnya tidak salah kalau kita merasa tersanjung saat kita dipuji oleh orang lain. Tapi jika kemudian kita menjadi haus dan haus akan sanjungan sehingga kita mengorbankan apapun demi mendapatkannya, maka itu yang berbahaya. Seperti kata pepatah pujian itu manis seperti gula. Kalau kita kebanyakan makan gula, tentu akan menimbulkan penyakit bukan?

Tiga kisah ini mungkin bisa menjadi renungan bagi kita supaya menyadari bahwa sebenarnya pujian dan sanjungan dari dunia itu adalah sementara sifatnya dan gampang berubah.
1. Yoh 12 : 12 -15
Di perikop tersebut menceritakan ketika Tuhan Yesus memasuki Yerusalem. Orang – orang menyanjung dan meninggikanNya. Tetapi beberapa saat kemudian, mereka berteriak untuk menyalibkan Dia.

2. Kis 14 : 8 - 20
Cerita mengenai Rasul Paulus di Listra yang dengan kuasa Allah menyembuhkan orang yang lumpuh. Penduduk di kota itu takjub dan menganggap Paulus dan Barnabas adalah titisan dewa sehingga mereka dipuja dan diberi persembahan. Tetapi kemudian apa yang terjadi? Ketika orang – orang Yahudi membujuk penduduk itu, mereka berbalik melempari Paulus dengan batu.

3. Seorang mantan Perdana Menteri Inggris yang bernama Winston Churchill setiap kali berpidato, orang akan berbondong – bondong datang dan mendengarkan pidatonya sampai ada yang tidak kebagian tempat. Ketika beliau ditanya, apakah tidak merasa tersanjung? Beliau menjawab, “Tiap kali saya ingin berbangga saya hanya ingat satu hal. Apabila suatu saat saya dihukum gantung, jumlah orang yang hadir pasti melonjak dua kali lipat.”

Dari ketiga cerita di atas, kita lihat bahwa pujian dan sanjungan dari dunia adalah sementara saja dan cepat sirna. Ibarat seperti permen karet, hanya dinikmati sesaat, tapi jangan sampai ditelan. Lebih baik kita melakukan pekerjaan kita masing – masing dengan sebaik – baiknya tidak peduli disanjung maupun tidak yang penting melalui pekerjaan kita Tuhan dimuliakan. Amin.

Uang, MAU ?

Di dalam dunia yang semakin modern tapi juga semakin bobrok ini, dimana banyak orang mendewakan uang, menganggap uang adalah segalanya, bagaimanakah kita sebagai orang kristen harus bersikap ?

Apakah uang itu penting ? Kalau ditanya begini pasti jawaban kita penting, dan ini bener tanpa uang yang pasti kita gak bisa makan :) , tapi uang itu bukan segalanya, kan masih ada VISA dan MASTER card (hehehe just kidding). Kita harus bekerja jika ingin hidup (Jika seorang tidak mau bekerja, janganlah ia makan” - II Tesalonika 3:10). Tetapi hal yang penting yang harus kita perhatikan yaitu jangan sampai berpikiran uang adalah segalanya, karena siapa mempercayakan diri pada kekayaan akan jatuh (Ams 11:28). Kekayaan itu adalah berkat Tuhan (Ams 10:22)

Seringkali orang berpikir dengan uang dia bisa membeli apa saja, bahkan keadilanpun dibeli (di Indonesia masih sering bisa ya :) yang bener jadi salah, yang salah jadi bener, kalo di pengadilan). Tapi coba kita renungkan benar-benar, apakah memang seperti itu ? Dengan uang kita bisa membeli obat, tetapi kita tidak bisa membeli kesehatan, kita bisa membeli jam tetapi kita tidak bisa membeli waktu, kita bisa membeli cincin permata untuk orang yang kita cintai tetapi kita tidak bisa membeli cintanya, bahkan kita bisa membeli darah, tetapi kita tidak bisa membeli nyawa, bukankah begitu ? Yesus pernah berkata apa gunanya memperoleh seluruh dunia tetapi kamu tidak selamat ? (Mark 8:36)

Seringkali karena masalah uang, teman bertengkar, saudara saling membunuh, banyak orang kaya hidupnya tidak bahagia karena mereka tidak pernah merasa puas dengan kekayaan mereka. Inilah yang dikatakan oleh Alkitab, akar segala kejahatan ialah cinta uang (I Tim 6:10) - ingat yang akar kejahatan itu adalah CINTA uang, bukan uangnya. Uangnya sendiri itu penting dan dengan uang kita bisa berbuat kebaikan tetapi juga kejahatan.
Jadi bagaimanakah kita harus bersikap ? Apakah kita tidak perlu bekerja keras dan menjadi kaya ? Siapa bilang ? :) Kita boleh saja menjadi kaya dan kita memang harus bekerja keras. Tetapi yang penting bahwa kita harus punya motif yang benar, apa yang kita kerjakan atau lakukan, lakukanlah itu untuk kemuliaan Allah, jadi bukan karena mendewakan uang, sebab Alkita telah berkata, Janganlah menjadi hamba uang, tetapi cukupkanlah dirimu dengan apa yang ada padamu (Ibr 13:5)

Jadi yang terpenting adalah kita hidup ini untuk memuliakan Allah. Oleh karena itu carilah dahulu kerajaan Allah dan kebenarannya, maka semua itu akan ditambahkan kepadamu (Mat 6:33)

Knock the door

A new pastor was visiting the homes of his parishioners.

At one house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door. Therefore, he took out a card and wrote "Revelation 3:20" on the back of it and stuck it in the door.

When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned. Added to it was this cryptic message, Genesis 3:10."

Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of laughter.

Revelation 3:20 begins "Behold, I stand at the door and knock." Genesis 3:10 reads, "I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid, for I was naked."

A Priest, A Drunkard And An Engineer

A priest, a drunkard, and an engineer are sentenced to death by guillotine. The executioner asks the priest if he wants to face upward or downward when he meets his fate. The priest says that he would like to die face up, so that he will be looking toward heaven when he dies.
The blade of the guillotine is raised and released. It comes speeding down and suddenly stops just inches from his throat. This is seen as a sign from God, and the priest is set free.
Next, the drunkard goes to the guillotine. He also decides to die face up hoping that he will be as fortunate as the priest. Once again, the blade stops inches from the throat. Again, a miracle, and the drunkard is set free.
The engineer is next. He too decides to die facing up. The executioner slowly raises the blade of the guillotine. Suddenly the engineer exclaims, "Wait a minute! I see what your problem is."

Pelayanan VS Keluarga

Jika kita diperhadapkan pada pilihan pelayanan atau keluarga, manakah yang kita akan pilih ? Saya rasa seringkali kita terjebak dalam pemikiran bahwa kita melakukan pelayanan karena itu sudah tanggungjawab kita sebagai seorang hamba Tuhan, seorang diaken, penatua, pengurus komisi dll, sehingga jika di gereja yang besar, yang seringkali banyak kegiatan, banyak tenaga yang harus dikeluarkan dan waktu yang harus diluangkan oleh para pengurus-pengurus tersebut.

Seringkali hal semacam ini menjadi bumerang bagi sebagian 'pengurus' tersebut dimana mereka akhirnya 'menelantarkan' keluarganya demi 'pelayanan' mereka.

Yesus mengajarkan kepada kita, ikutlah aku dan kamu akan kujadikan penjala manusia (Mark 1:17). Menurut saya ini yang terpenting, jadi yang terpenting adalah Yesus. Jika saya diminta untuk memilih Yesus atau keluarga maka saya memilih Yesus (misal keluarga meminta kita meninggalkan Yesus), ini yg bener.
Coba kita pikirkan, bukankah keluarga itu juga merupakan lahan pelayanan kita ?
Kalau begitu mengapa sebagian orang begitu ngototnya lebih memilih yang mereka katakan 'pelayanan' daripada 'keluarga' mereka ? Mereka pergi melayani orang lain, pembesukan, menghibur orang yang kesusahan, tetapi di satu sisi keluarga mereka merasa kehilangan mereka, kesepian, sedih karena tidak mendapat perhatian dari mereka.

Saya pernah mendengar sebuah berita yang mengatakan ada seorang yang dulunya pendeta yang pernah menjabat sebagai ketua sekolah tinggi teologia (jadi bukan orang kristen sembarangan), berpindah kepercayaan ke agama lain. Kenapa hal ini bisa terjadi ? Anda tau masalahnya ? saya sempat membaca artikelnya di dalam sebuah situs yang menjadikan orang ini sebagai headline mereka. Di dalam artikel tersebut dia bercerita bahwa dia merasa hidupnya tidak karuan, padahal dia sudah melakukan pelayanan kepada Tuhan begitu katanya. Dia bercerita bahwa dia begitu aktif di kegiatan gereja dan pelayanannya sehingga keluarganya seringkali marah-marah, karena dia sering tidak di rumah. Sampai pada akhirnya keluarganya meminta dia untuk mundur dari pelayanannya. Tapi dia bersikeras tidak mau mundur, bagaimana saya mundur, saya ini hamba Tuhan dan saya harus melayani lebih dari semua, begitu pikirnya. Sampai pada akhirnya keluarga ini bertengkar hebat dan dia berpikir kenapa Tuhan membiarkan itu terjadi bukankah aku sudah pelayanan, begitu doanya ke Tuhan saat itu. Akhirnya karena frustasi, masak hamba Tuhan tapi keluarga berantakan, (coba kita pikir secara psikologis hal ini pasti sangat mempengaruhi hidupnya, mungkin dia merasa sangat malu dilihat orang) dia akhirnya memilih berpindah agama (padahal dia hanya perlu berbalik kepada Tuhan dan mengatur hidup kembali, bukankah keluarganya hanya meminta dia mundur dari pelayanannya dan bukan menyangkal Yesus?) . Dan saat itu istrinya menentang dia, tetapi karena dia udah terlanjur berpikiran spt itu maka akhirnya mereka bercerai. Dan sekarang kabarnya dia telah menikah lagi dengan pernikahan secara agamanya yang baru dan ini dijadikan headline di situs tersebut.

Jadi sekarang mari kita berkaca terhadap diri kita sendiri, jikalau kita diminta utk memilih pelayanan atau keluarga manakah yang kita pilih ? Ingat, keluarga itu juga lahan pelayanan kita, suami, istri dan anak-anak kita juga perlu kita layani. Tuhan tidak pernah meminta kita untuk menelantarkan keluarga kita bukan ? Tuhan mengajarkan jika keluarga kita menghalangi kita untuk mengikut Dia, nah itu yg harus kita tolak. Yesus juga mengajarkan lewat kita dalam cerita Maria dan Martha, dimana Martha sibuk melayani Dia, tapi justru Dia menegur Martha dan mengatakan bahwa Maria telah memilih yang bener, mendengar firman Tuhan. Jadi bukan pelayanan yang membuat kita terlihat 'sibuk dan penting' yang harus kita prioritaskan tetapi keluargalah yang harus kita prioritaskan dan diatas keluarga dan segalanya, Yesuslah prioritas utama kita. Semoga artikel ini bisa membawa berkat bagi anda, terutama bagi anda yang adalah pendeta, penginjil, majelis, penatua, pengurus komisi dan aktifis gereja. Film review : The Secret

Have you ever seen The Secret movie ? It has so many new thing, new concept that can make people change their mind, their mindset.
Is it a good movie ? More important question to ask is "IS IT TRUE BASED ON WHAT THE BIBLE SAID ?"
In this article, I'll try to review this film based on my own opinion, some articles that I read and now I share to you (sssssttt.. the answer of above question is NO, BIG NO!!)

First when I saw this movie it seems good (in my pre-perception it is a good movie because my friend said that it is a good movie) but guess what, when the secret teachers begin to explain the concepts it's begin strange, something is wrong - I said in my heart. "The Secret" does promote such concepts as gratitude and positive thinking. Yes, we need to think positive in our lives, but what "The Secret" teach are more than that. I begin to search for what the Bible say and what should christian does to response these concepts.

For starters, one of the main premises in the Secret is to go by your "feelings" and "emotions". It says that when you feel good, then what you do is correct ! Is it true ? Of course not ! Doesn't ALL sin feel good? I mean, if sin feel bad WHO would do it? :) . One of their main examples of "The Secret" in action was of a gay man and a fornicator. Refer to the Jer. 17:9 which states that the heart (feelings) is deceitful and wicked and cannot be trusted. I've ever come to a seminar by Adi W Gunawan (one of motivator living in surabaya), he asked if you find some money in a place, not yours, it is somebody's money but he forget to bring or he left it for a while, will you take that ? No body know when you take it, will you take it ? He said "if I were you, I will take it. Could be GOD, who will give you that present." :) This is ridiculous, it is stealing, right ? Do you feel good when you get the money to fulfill your need ? Maybe you feel good but it doesn't mean that it is Correct. So what "The Secret" concept about sin is NOT Correct.

"The Secret" teachers make the claim that everything "bad" that happens to you is your own creation. In SOME cases maybe this is TRUE, but definately not most. In Matthew 5:44-46 Jesus said that GOD makes rain and sun shine to the good and the evil. Also Jesus states that we will be HATED for His namesake. Funny why "The Secret" teachers leave that part out. It means if we think that this 'world' loves us as His follower, then the 'world' will love us ??? Maybe the SATAN will love you if you love this World :)

Also, in "The Secret" one of teachers - Neal Donald Walsh said "God has no purpose for your life, it's what you make it and you'll never be judged for it, not now not ever." This is very contradiction to the hundreds of scriptures refering to the final judgment. Romans 2:4-6 and thoughout the entire New Testament the Final Judgment is spoken of.

They also try to make people think that there is no Devil. All are your own creation. You can be like GOD (remember the story of Adam and Eve ?) - just think what you want and it will be come true to you. You know, the devil's 2 biggest tricks are twisting the Word of God to make man the God, and convincing mankind he doesn't exsist. He has definately succeeded with "The Secret."

They also state that if you stand against injustice, you attract more of it. For example if you think I don't like being poor, then you will attract more of the poorness. Tell that to the Civil Rights Activists, the Founding Father's Of Indonesia, etc. If someone didn't STAND UP and STAND AGAINST injustice, we wouldn't be here right now.

This movie is teaching people to trust in themselves and the "genie" of the Universe that is only there to serve them. The truth is, there's a Heaven and a Hell, and no matter how much money you give, no matter how much you make (or don't make), no matter how many charities you start, being a "Good Person" will not get you to Heaven. And since we'll spend a lot more time dead than alive...(ponder that for a moment) I think it bears a little thinking about. The Bible is clear, you will not get to Heaven just because you said a prayer asking Jesus into your heart, you go to Church, and label yourself a Christian. Jesus said in Matthew 7:21-23 that not even one who professes to be a Christian will go to Heaven. In Proverbs 3:5-7 the Bible says to lean not on your own insight and understand but God's (another "The Secret" contradiction) and HE will direct your paths (not you, HE will). So if we want to know if we are really good, we need to look to God and His Standards.

So what is the Will of The Father? We find it in the 10 commandments (I guess God didn't understand "The Secret" since He gave us commands of what He DID NOT WANT hehehe ....and I guess when Jesus confronted the Pharasies, when Paul wrote to the Churches, when Joshua marched around the wall of Jericho, I guess none of these guys knew "The Secret" hehehe)

The Bible has prophesied about False Teachers and vain philosphies. This is why it is SO important, that if you call yourself a Christian, you READ YOUR BIBLE. Get it, read the Word of God for yourself, pray daily, fight the good fight of Faith brothers and sisters. We are in a war zone here. We have a real enemy after our souls and these "teachers" are helping him populate Hell.

So, what is the conclusion ? Postive thinking is not bad, we must have postive thinking in our life, day by day, again, I am not against positive thinking. What I am against is satan and these "teachers" perverting the Word to suit their own purposes. In Luke 11:9 "So I say to you: ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you"(NIV version). Yes, it is about the pray, but remember "yet not what I will but what You will". I pray that this article wakes someone up. Feel free to post a comment, good or bad. GBU All.

Is Bible the Word of God ?

This question is always ask by many people, and not only the christian but also non christian. How can we make sure that Bible is the word of GOD ? This article is try to answer that question so there will be no more doubt about this.

There is some evidence that can affirm that Bible is the word of GOD :

1. Bible has sciencetific accuracy, in Job 26:7 Bible said “hangeth the earth upon nothing”, How did Job know that the earth hung in space before the age of modern astronomy and space travel? The Holy Spirit told him. Another example is when Isaiah said, “It is [God] that sitteth upon the circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22). The word for “circle” here means a globe or sphere. How did Isaiah know that God say upon the circle of the earth? By divine inspiration.

2. The Bible is affirmed through historical accuracy. In Daniel chapter 5, Bible said “Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.” (Daniel 5:29). It's about the story of the handwriting on the wall. The historians claim this never happened because according to the Babylonian records, the last king of Babylon was not Belshazzar, but a man named Nabonidas. And so, they said, the Bible is in error. There wasn’t a record of a king named Belshazzar. But, in 1853, an inscription was found by archeologists on a cornerstone of a temple built by Nabonidas, to the god Ur, which read: “May I, Nabonidas, king of Babylon, not sin against thee. And may reverence for thee dwell in the heart of Belshazzar, my first-born favorite son.” From other inscriptions, it was learned that Belshazzar and Nabonidas were co-regents. Nabonidas traveled while Belshazzar stayed home to run the kingdom. Now that we know that Belshazzar and Nabonidas were co-regents, it makes sense that Belshazzar would say that Daniel would be the third ruler. With this inscriptions the Bible is affirmed through historical accuracy.

3. There is incredible unity to the Bible because from Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reads as one book. Although it is made up of 66 books, was written by at least 40 different authors over a period of about 1600 years, in 13 different countries and on three different continents, in at least three different languages by people in all professions, the Bible forms one beautiful temple of truth that does not contradict itself theologically, morally, ethically, doctrinally, scientifically, historically, or in any other way. The main concept of the Bible is one, it is about Jesus Christ and the love of GOD to save people from their sin.

4. Bible is the only book in the world that has accurate prophecy. There are over 300 precise prophecies that deal with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Old Testament that are fulfilled in the New Testament. To say that these are fulfilled by chance is an astronomical impossibility.

5. Bible is The Book of The Ages. No book has ever had as much opposition as the Bible. Men have laughed at it, scorned it, burned it, ridiculed it, and made laws against it. But the Word of God has survived. And it is applicable today as much as it was yesterday and will be tomorrow.
I Peter 1:25 says: “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the Word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

It’s so majestically deep that scholars could swim and never touch the bottom. Yet so wonderfully shallow that a little child could come and get a drink of water without fear of drowning. That is God’s precious, holy Word. The Word of God. Know it. Believe it. It is True.

Is Jesus GOD ?

"I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever!"-Revelation 1:17-18

Jesus ever asked to His disciples "Who do you say I am?" (Matthew 16:15; Mark 8:29; Luke 9:20), and Jesus answered by claiming that He was God. He also explicitly told the Jews: "'I and the Father are one (John 10:30-33). And many more He himself claim that He is GOD.

Furthermore He proved omniscience by telling Peter, "This very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times" (Matthew 26:34) and it happend; declared omnipotence by not only resurrecting Lazarus (John 11:43) but by raising Himself from the dead (see John 2:19); and professed omnipresence by promising He would be with His disciples "to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:20). Not only so, but Jesus said to the paralytic in Luke 5:20, "Friend, your sins are forgiven". In doing so, He claimed a prerogative reserved for God alone.

Jesus not only claimed to be God but also provided many convincing proofs that he indeed was divine.First, Jesus demonstrated that he was God in human flesh by manifesting the credential of sinlessness (2 Corinthians 5:21) And this is not a singular statement. John declares, "and in him is no sin" (1 John 3:5), and Peter says Jesus "committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth" (1 Peter 2:22). Jesus himself went so far as to challenge his antagonists asking, "Can any of you prove me guilty of sin?" (John 8:46).

Furthermore, Jesus demonstrated supernatural authority over sickness, the forces of nature, fallen angels, and even death itself. Healing every disease and sickness (Matthew 4:23), rebuking the wind and the waves (Mark 4:39), encounters a man possessed by an evil spirit and commands the demon to "Come out of him!" (Luke 4:35), He also tells a royal official whose son was close to death, "Your son will live" (John4:50). And the four Gospels also record how Jesus demonstrated ultimate power over death through the immutable fact of his resurrection.

Are you saved ?

Maybe we have doubts about this, "am I saved" ? Ho do I know ?
If you have doubts, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not saved. But you should know that GOD wants you to believe that when you are in HIM, you are saved !
These selftests you can ask to yourself to help you believe that your are saved :

1. Are you believing Jesus Right Now ? If you can’t remember when you were saved, that’s okay, but the important thing is : you are believing Jesus right now !

2. Do you have love ? Do you love your body, your family, your brothers and sisters, your friends even your enemy ? GOD is love. When you get saved, you receive the divine nature of God and the nature of God is love (1 John 4:7). You’re not saved because you love the brethren, you love the brethren because you’re saved.

3. Is Jesus Christ the King of your life? Are you always do everything for Him and for His glory ?

If you said yes for the questions above, you should believe that you are saved, if you still have doubts, there is a good pray that you can pray to GOD : "GOD You said that if I would believe you, then You would save me. With all my heart, as much in me is, once and for all, now and forever, I trust You to save me"

It's all about the christianity

This blog is dedicated for christianity, all about christianity, whether it is christian life, how we live as a christian, the faith, the basic of christiany, whatever :)

I just want to write about that, share my thinking, idea and knowledge (hey I'm not a priest hehehe) I'm just an ordinary person trying to make my life better today than I was yesterday.
