This run in minds of a million students as anything after 7000 AIR makes life confusing and difficult. One can easily feel the doors are closed and there are no good jobs out there to start a good career, or sometimes we don’t find a bad one either. All these make life more difficult, confusing and depressing. In What after B.Tech? I explored few possibilities. On the sometime, I just kept myself in that situation and though what would I do or in fact did during this time.

These are the things I would do and strongly recommend anyone going through the tough time. These are just not for the students who lost the hope but for someone who really want to focus and look ahead. I still do these and at the end of the day I sleep in peach. I share five basic things to set ourselves right here.

1. Catch The Sunrise
This is the first and foremost thing for staying healthy, happy and strong. If you mess up with your sleep and start your day late then you won’t get time to think about what’s wrong with you. The first wrong is not taking rest on time. The big time waste and unproductive time is in nights. Even people with most productive attitude go unproductive in late nights. I am not talking nights before exams, the nights in normal days are check points. To gain max out of your day make sure you see sunrise, whatever time you sleep it doesn’t matter.

2. Get A Newspaper
This is little weird in the time of internet right? get a news paper I mean spend time early in the morning to know the opportunities for admission or job. Just read something to know what’s going around you and your domain get updated. Learn to control how you use internet and media. Go on opportunities, cut the entertainment early in morning. Keep entertainment in late evenings to use your leftover energy to relax with. Look for opportunities, read future, read tech articles, tech updates, read interviews and look for more learning.

3. Give It A Though
Yes we all screw up things because of many reasons, but it doesn’t mean that we need stop and don’t look ahead as winners does. With all experience in life i can say that people lose and stand up does a lot of rocking than who don’t lose. The only catch is to stop and give a it a though what went wrong and how to correct it. If friends screwed it up change them, if movies and dramas screwed it up change them, if habits screwed it up change them. You need to stand and give a though what seriously went wrong and what you want to do next. Do make a decision about what you want to do next, higher studies, job or something else. Make sure you don’t repeat the mistakes. God gave you all good time chose again, you will leave friends, college, and bad history too. So it’s an opportunity to think and start afresh and apply learning from mistakes.

4. Walk An Extra Mile
We know why we are depressed and now we have given extra effort to reach the place where other reached with extra effort before. Want an admission give you all effort in finding a place where you can apply. Get any slightest chance or possibility of admission go there. Even if you need to travel right now and by general compartment for next 24hrs. Give it all you have. If you are looking for a job give it all apply everywhere go everywhere there is a slightest possibility of getting in. Relocate to places where there are jobs, even if you need to sleep on street. Walk an extra mile, believe me you will get there. Without that extra effort competition would kill you for your mistakes, be prepared for that.

5. No Time To Waste, I Already Did It Enough
We in a situation as this because of the time we wasted, we all know that. Now lets learn out of our mistake. Spot the time wasters and turn them into productive tools. Facebook, Youtube, Internet are most productive places, learn how to use them. If you are addicted to old box of TV, get rid of it, its old men’s show now. Things have changed a lot; change yourself to become more and more productive. The bottom line is don’t waste time. Whatever you do make sure you are learning something useful.

These few basic things, I would write about then in coming days but as a quick note wanted to share with you all as most of the students finshed their exams and looking for next big thing. What a pleasant way to start an awesome Friday. Wow every single individual love this day, it’s a hope for another two days of rest. We see stores with that name in west and now a days India too with the name “TGIF” Thank God Its Friday.

But today I had to go to office early to come back early to finish some work back home. I didn’t get time to check emails this morning. I went to office ordered a nice ICE Amricano and went to park and sat there to check my mails. I was just thanking God for everything I have and do. These days this feeling just too high, don’t know why though. I checked mails and to add more joy to my day I had two mails from single digit AIR in GATE 2012 just thanking for the support during GATE 2012 preparation. I don’t know if you feel, what it means, but that made my day.

Now I came back home and read those mails again. I felts its just not me who have to do it. I mailed them back with a request to come back with their story of GATE preparation. We live in a nation where everybody die for education and think it as only mean of surviving, on the same it’s the most neglected area. I never saw any new paper or TV channel publishing the interviews of toppers in any domain.

Way back in 2006, I was awarded IBM outstanding researcher award (Received it from a Noble Laureate in a great event at IISc). I had so much to share but there was no platform and no one cared the biggest event in a great engineering institute of the nation. It all went unnoticed by media. I felt strange and thought there must be something that cover these events and inspire millions of young engineers. This and other events made me pursue the dream of such a place and I n I finally became that place. Inspire n Ignite ( I n I) played an awesome role of being an alternate media for students looking for information regarding and GATE and some motivation to go ahead, especially when feel nothing is working out.

With this post I would like to start a new tag called “We Did It” to compile all those stories of hardworking student who rocked one of the most competitive exams to knock the doors of finest engineering schools of nation.

GATE cut offs for personal interviews at IIT Kharagpur are here. I check the IIT KGP M.Tech admissions brochure, it also have a table mentioning the cutoffs for the year 2011-2012. The cutoff details I received from IIT Kharagpur are differing a little with the table mentioned in Admission brochure. It gave a good reason for me to post this information. Hope you will find it useful.

What do I want in life? is the most famous question we ask ourselves hell lot of time and keep it shut because of confusions and not a right answer. Answer to this question means you got a direction and need to work towards it. I am just not refering to answers like a millionier, a father, a mother..etc. With answer to this question I mean a direction a way out plan for ourselves for rest of our lives.

The truth is I myself still ask this question many many times. Sometimes mutiple times in a single day. Earlier everytime my answer was based on many constraints and influencing factors like friends and family members, teachers, neighbours, elders, and we see successful people around us. Those answers lead me where I am not but futher I want to lead on my own.

In 10th standard a teacher asked me what do we want to become. I wanted to say Doctor, but dont know the degree name (MBBS) so I looked around. When my friend said B.Tech, I said yes B.Tech. Then a little better marks in Math landed me engineering stream. When I was about to take engineering, again came the factor of Computers or Electronics. Yes because it was and is a trend in engineering and we consider rest of the fields as substandard, I had only two choices. I opted for computer science. After B.Tech I decided to go for higher studies, as I was not happy with the performance and knowledge in B.Tech.

I gave the best shot there and loved what i was learning, so was there in top 3 studetns in class. After that as everyone wanted a software job I ran the same race and joined a company. Felt like i am killing myself I moved out to teach but missed a pinch there too. Finally moved to PhD.

In PhD again I got that rythm and rocked it and had full fun with achievements in row. Scholarships, Awards and recognition was coming as if someone was waiting just apply. Got all big Schols and Awards during that time. Also made my frist internation visit. And not to forget the current job.

I am a crazy mover, I dont stay in one place for long time. I stayed in current postition for last 4 years and that itself is an achievement But during these last four years I asked myself a hell lot of time, what am I doing? Is the really I want to do rest of my life? The answer was no for many times.

I asked what do I want to do? that was hard very hard to answer, so I broke the question into parts to make it easy for myself.

1. Do I really want to do Engineering rest of my life?
2. If not Engineering then What?

Once I reached there life was easy, though not that easy ; ) . I n I born, I started taking pictures (photography), did research on cameras, started reading a lots of books and blogs ( though I read them a lot before too) traveled and saw different cultures. Basically I am and was getting ready for next plateform.

I am not a strong player as steve jobs, so I took a long route for the realisation of what do I want and need to do. I m not there yet but I am very close to it and I feel that from within. I dont know why I am still playing a very safe game.

With this post I want to ask you the same quesiton, what you will be if you are not an engineer? This is a good time to ask yourself this, you are looking for M.Tech admissions or waiting for results and you have time to discover what really you want from now on.

I was arguing on this for last two years and finally we are here, all NITs common admissions. It’s great for both students and NITs. On the same time it’s not same for IITs, IITs is a different ball game in general. We will have a discussion over this soon but first let’s get into the notification.

Centralized admissions for 20 NITs (Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Calicut, Durgapur, Hamirpur, Jaipur, Jallandhar, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Rourkela, Silchar, Srinagar, Surat, Surathkal, Tiruchchirappalli, Warangal) is conducted by MNIT Jaipur for the year 2012.

Eligibility Criteria:
An applicant (i) must possess a valid GATE score in his applicable category during either the year 2011 OR year 2012, as well as (ii) have secured CGPA of 6.5 on 10 point scale (or 60% aggregate marks) in qualifying degree. The CGPA/marks criteria is relaxed for SC/ST category ONLY to CGPA of 6.0 on 10 point scale (or 55% aggregate marks).

Reservations:
Reservation of seats for OBC-Non Creamy Layer (OB), OBC-other minority-Non Creamy Layer (OM), SC and ST candidates will be as per Government of India norms. For candidates with physical disability (PD), otherwise fit to pursue the course, who qualify under relaxed norms, 3% seats are reserved in each of the categories (e.g. OC, OB, OM, SC, ST).

IIIT Delhi invites applications for M.Tech admission for 2012 academic year. Presently IIIT Delhi offers M.Tech progrms in Computer Science and Engineering with specializations in Information Security or Data Management, Mobile Computing and VLSI and Embedded Systems. IIIT Delhi was started in 2008 and one of the fastest growing institutes in the nation. Hopefully it will catch up with old IIITs in couple of years.

Eligibility:
The minimum eligibility criterion for this program is B.Tech./B.E. in CS/IT/ECE/EE with at least 7.5 CGPA (out of 10) or 70% or equivalent. We expect the candidates to have proper foundations in algorithms and theory, good programming skills, in particular, systems programming, and ability to work hard. Requirements may be relaxed for candidates with relevant experience in the area of security or database.

MCA/MSc(CS/IT/ECE) degree is considered equivalent to the BTech/BE degree. Such students are also eligible to apply with the condition that in their undergraduate (i.e. B.Sc.) they should have Mathematics as one of the courses and keen interest/capability/commitment in pursuing research. It’s a very very common question every single student have in their mind before starting the GATE preparation and many still wonder after the GATE exam. As an average student, I was in similar situation many times right from engineering till PhD. In this post I would like to share my views and experience addressing this question.

I couldn’t make it good in Engineering Entrance exam of my state and at that time it was pretty hard to get into engineering. I decided to give it a try for one more year, but dad was against it. He asked me to go ahead with payment seat. Being a stubborn child I fought a lot for many days. We spent whole lot of time and money over phones in late nineties. The phone costs were so high at that time. Finally I gave up and joined engineering.

I always had in my heart that I haven’t given a right opportunity to prove my metal. This feeling also helped me to be focused during engineering. I always had the feeling that I paid to most so I should use resources more. I had a seat reserved in library and used to spend much of my time there. But when I came to end of engineering I desperately wanted to do M.Tech without delay, because I was sure that I may not be able to go abroad for higher studies, because lack of guidance and confidence to make bread at that early age and study.

Now when I stand see in past I feel my dad was right. I am just an average student and it was quite possible that other smart kids at that time would have dragged me down at that time. He always argued that what if you land in a similar situation next year too. You waste one year and stand on the same point. He was right in his thinking and today I feel damn happy for that decision.

You know yourself a lot better and also know the crazily growing competition. You can decide better whether a year drop is better or not. If you ask me personally I would say its not recommended to wait for year and waste time if you can afford join M.Tech this year in any recognized institute. If you cannot afford it, then it’s a different story.

A year saved in early stage of life would be as good as ten years in later life and we will realize it when we need those years. It brings more opportunities, open your mind and also give you a confidence to move ahead in life.

The whole idea is to not waste time in life whatever we have to pay for it. If we can buy a year with some money just go ahead and do it. We can earn a hell lot of money but not that year. On the same time it’s not just buying time, make sure you rock that time, because we paid for it, whereas others came with hard work and good luck.

I just suggest you to not to spend a year for GATE prep if you are an average student like me. If you already have good grip on subject and want to nail it to IITs, I would say go ahead. For average students one single good advice, leave the crap out of your mind, rush and join M.Tech wherever you get.

Central universities in India are established by central government and are considered as few best universities in India for Science Education. Admissions to their M.Sc and PhD courses are too competitive. They also offer M.Tech (Master of Engineering Programs). Most of the central universities used to conduct their own written test for M.Tech admissions but since last year I noticed that most of them are taking admissions based on GATE scores.

These top universities give a good alternative to IITs and NITs for Master of Engineering admissions. Students with GATE score little competitive to IITs or NITs should these universities preference. They have few great faculty members and research atmosphere along with good placements to make them next good places to apply for Master Degrees.

Gate cutoffs are changing year to year making the cutoff information dependent on many factors, like difficulty of GATE exam, number of students appearing, ..etc. For me the best criteria to check for admission are All India Rank. The cutoff ranks would give a much clear picture than GATE Score and Marks cutoff. Please refer to how much GATE score is need for IITs, and other related posts for more details.

We collected GATE cutoff in 2009 and GATE cutoff in 2010 from whatever was possible through official sources. For 2011 we got bit more organized to get this information. I hope in future with help of friend and other government sources we will give much more information. The only aim of this effort is to provide accurate and genuine information to the student community.

Here we have GATE Cutoff aggregate Marks for IIT Roorkee (IITR) in 2011. This information is collected right from IIT Roorkee through official sources. The calculation of aggregate marks is given below.

This is truly an awesome day. After a long time I met a great friend on a cup of coffee. The first question he asked me was why are u still here?? I was like what?? I am meeting you after a long time and you ask me why am I here? He said yes because you have a hell lot better to do in other place and I am sure you do rock there. This put me seriously back on to I n I.

I started riding a crazy rollercoaster of personal life and that gave me really tough time for last couple of months. As you all know time heals everything and you need to give time for things to settle and get back. But here i did a little trick instead of being depressed because life started giving lemons I made lemonade of it and enjoying every sip of it relaxing and having fun.

I did hell lot of wild things in past two months. I bought an Audi and drove thousands of kilometers, travelled over 50000 miles in flights, changed my job, my home, eating and sleeping habits, spent good time in gym to look more strong and many other crazy things that I never did before in life.

I will share the whole story after sometime and I am sure most of you would love it. But for now I am just sharing a lesson with you. When something bad happen to you, just chill out and relax, it will be alright with time. Its so easy to say but hard to practice. But just give it a try and forget the thing that troubled you at least for some part of the day. You will definitely feel better.

You can do the following things to get out of depression or a personal disaster or failure.

1. Do some sports and workouts
2. Join a club (I am in to photography and own and canon 7D)
3. Practice your lovely hobby (made lots of Vids )
4. Talk to people (family / friends, don’t get into wrong hands and spoil your life)
5. Watch a movie or comedy show or a sports show (this can dangerous and a big time waster if addicted)
6. Travel even if its to next village
7. Don’t read a book (for me it was hard to concentrate) rather read blogs or surf internet.
8. Drive a loooot (even if it’s a bicycle, ride it for long distances)
9. Do shopping
10. And do a little showoff (if you have money, just ignore it if you don’t)

Most importantly please understand that if something good for you it will come to you otherwise best is waiting for you. Just give yourself time and give a kick a** start to the new start.

Setbacks, failures, rejections are a part of life and everything will teach us to better next time. The real thing is to stand up and walk after every fall. The moment we give up hope and lay down people crush and walk over us and think that they won and it’s their right.

I am back to you all after a tough seasonal time and would like to get back to work on following things.

• Make a personal Facebook page to give personal update ( I received lots of mails asking if I am still alive)
