With our depleting oil resources becoming more of a reality due to our heavy consumption of fuel in our vehicles and the growing number of vehicles in the world, we are searching for other methods of refuelling our cars. There are different energy sources that are being researched such as the use of electricity to replace fuel in our cars and biodiesel which is made of used sunflower oil.

What does the future hold for us? We use our fuel resources so often that the planet cannot keep up with our increasing demand. Electricity is good fuel resource but it is also one that is depleting so much that we have to find other methods of generating electricity. Electricity generating methods include that of hydro energy and solar power. Both are great natural resources that are constantly available. Biodiesel is the other fuel resource that is already being used in certain vehicles as an alternative to diesel fuel. Biodiesel fuel is produced after much used sunflower oil is collected from various restaurants, cafés and households. The sunflower oil is then put through a process of conversion in order to make it suitable as a fuel source for our diesel vehicles. Such vehicles don't have to convert their engines to use biodiesel. They simply replace the standard diesel with the new biodiesel when refilling their fuel tanks and drive on as usual. This makes it much easier for the vehicle owner to convert to biodiesel as their daily activities are not affected and there are no additional costs of converting the vehicle. All you have to do is find a supplier nearby that you could purchase bulk biodiesel from and you can continue on your merry way. You can find a supplier by searching online for one that is within your area. The cost of this type of fuel is also much lower than the standard diesel because it is usually produced within your country so there are no extra import costs associated with the fuel. Thus the suppliers can keep the costs low and very competitive versus conventional diesel.

There is a future for biodiesel fuel and it will become part of our lives as we replace it with the new fuel. This is already happening today as there are biodiesel fuel suppliers that convert the sunflower oil and have a ready-to-use product on the market. There are certain companies that are already running their fleet of trucks on biodiesel. So the answer is yes, biodiesel is a part of our future. It is part of our present.

Our core focus at Golden Fry is to provide specially customized products and services to Restaurants, Take-Aways, Food Manufacturers, Caterers, Wholesalers, Supermarkets and Spaza Shops. We are an approved used oil collector that supplies Biodiesel to businesses.

Our Range includes: Palm Oil, Sunflower Oil, Soya Oil and Blended Oil.

Costs to Repeal Hybrid Car or truck Tax Passes Household of Delegates.

A
bill that could repeal the yearly taxes on hybrid autos has passed the home of
Delegates.

who's the brand new chair of the home Transportation
Committee.

89-9, and can proceed to the Senate for his or her measures, "
read an affirmation from Rust's company. " If the bill move the Senate,
"

"The fee contained in the transportation reform system can be an unfair
and punitive taxes on hybrid car or truck drivers. " Delegate Rust says, talking
about the costs. "I thank the customers of the home, who backed the bill, for
their support. "

Beginning in 2000, the $64 annual tax went into impact
in July.

The theory behind the tax was basically that, since hybrid
automobiles use fewer gasoline, drivers of hybrid automobiles pay fewer in
gasoline taxes and therefore do not contribute just as much as other drivers to
the tax cash that help preserve Virginia roads and assistance Metro and other
such projects.

Rust mentioned he agrees that drivers of electric cars,
which use no gas, should have to pay the tax, but mentioned that incorporating
in hybrid cars is usually "unfair and punitive. "

"Hybrid drivers pay
gasoline taxes. It’s that simple. " Rust mentioned in a declaration about his
strategies to combat the bill back in October. " It is unfair to treat them the
same as someone who doesn’t pay out any gas tax. "

" We should be
encouraging people to purchase and push hybrids- not necessarily punishing them,
" he extra.

Rust said, in fact, they may even pay even more in gasoline
taxes.

The Need for Hybrid Automobiles

Since the very conception of the
automobile, engineers and developers have been searching for was to make them
more efficient and save well on fuel intake. Petrol fuels nearly all autos and
diesel petrol can be used in heavier motor vehicle equipment. The inner
combustion engine is known as to be always a major or even the biggest way to
obtain environment pollution and the expense of petrol is increasing every
single day.

With a continuing rise in fuel prices and environmentally
friendly considerations regarding automobiles, car or truck engineers
experienced to develop less expensive and environmentally safer solutions to the
inner combustion motor that powers a lot of cars. These hybrid automobiles
provide a number of features. The hybrid vehicle is really a car that's driven
by both a power electric motor and a gasoline motor. In comparison to non hybrid
autos, the hybrid car or truck saves on the expense of fuel by being more petrol
efficient and contains less rate of petrol consumption.

Hybrid cars are
powered by a dual method where in fact the electric motor, driven by batteries,
gets control after the gasoline motor has gotten the automobile up to date. This
technique lets the hybrid car or truck to supply better fuel proficiency. This
also implies that the motor of a hybrid car or truck is shut as soon as the
automobile is stopped. Thought to be the biggest gain to the hybrid car or truck
is the reduced amount of environmental pollution because of much less emissions
of skin tightening and along with other harmful gases directly into our
atmosphere. Vehicle manufactures such as for example Honda, Toyota, and Ford
have previously introduced hybrid car or truck styles to the professional market
and many others come in development.

Currently you can find two forms of
hybrid vehicles available to buy. The foremost is the "Series" hybrid. A battery
pack powered electric engine powers the Line hybrid car. In addition, it
includes a gasoline powered motor but it will not singularly power the
automobile. The gasoline motor powers a generator that is used in convert to fee
the batteries of the electric powered motor. The electric powered motor is kept
on through the vehicles entire functioning nevertheless the gasoline engine
could be started up or off with respect to the needs of the automobile. This
sort of hybrid car provides far better mileage in metropolis traffic.

The
second kind of hybrid vehicle available is called the "Parallel" hybrid. just
like the Series type, includes a gasoline motor and a power motor. The electric
powered engine and the electric powered engine can both be utilized to show the
tranny and power the automobile. The major big difference between your two types
of hybrid cars is that the Parallel hybrid uses its electric motor to boost the
vehicles power when required to increase the car's speed. The Parallel hybrid
car is considered better suited for the open highway.

Hybrid automobiles
provide several benefits due to some very unique features. The construction of
the hybrid vehicle uses more lightweight materials than traditional automobile.
This saves energy by using less to propel the hybrid car. Hybrid cars also
increase energy efficiency because of their more aerodynamic shapes. Tires used
by hybrid vehicles run on a higher pressure and are made of a more rigid
material than general car tires. The overall efficiency of the vehicle is
elevated by these tires since they lessen friction on highway surfaces and
presented a hold. The braking method provided a power move from the electric
powered engine to the cars batteries if ever the brakes will be
applied.

To conclude, the continuing future of automobiles happens to be
the hybrid auto and investing in a hybrid vehicle can not only save money but
may also let you take duty and can you part in developing a safer,

Top Toyota Prius Accessories

So you've purchased a fresh Toyota Prius and

Legitimate, which is much better than its fuel counterpart's 25/36 score; but
those happen to be Environmental Protection Firm averages. In real life, Get
that hybrid how you would an average gas car or truck and you're unlikely to

1990s. On the other hand, which are a very well-known amount and are known to
last for many years. Some modern day hybrids employ lithium structured batteries
that are lighter and stronger than those older choices, but happen to be as-yet
untested for many years worth of continual use. Hybrid cars and trucks have
petrol injected engines together with electric motors, and therefore they can
have problems with all of the complications of petrol injection failure together

perfectly below that of a far more powerful fuel-injected motor. V8 sports
Marsh says he made a decision to go electrical primarily based on the Leaf’s low cost of ownership.
Nissan Leaf charges significantly less to drive and maintain than a gas car yet still provides a great driving knowledge. ”

To support and rate the adoption of electrical vehicles in the state, Washington developed among the country’s many robust EV charging networks. The West Coast Electrical Highway opened last year giving EV motorists range confidence they can find simple and easy and comfortable charging along Interstate 5 along with other roadways.

With a complete ask for in about half an hour, in accordance with Nissan, to be able to carpool to deliver the results within an all-electric car.
Low-cost power, ” says Gov. “His dedication to travelling electric really helps to foster economic growing, reduce our reliance on foreign oil, lower carbon emissions and protect the environment for potential future generations. ”
Nissan also discussed when Marsh obtained his Leaf, his management fast agreed it had been advisable, he said, his was basically one of the primary businesses in your community to set up a consumer charging station. Since that time, across the Hood Canal.

“It’s stimulating to observe how this community of charging stations is usually breaking the range barrier for EV masters, ” said Transportation Secretary Lynn Peterson who likewise drives a Nissan Leaf. “ This places Washington’s diverse, ”

According to Nissan, more than 5, washington has on the list of cleanest and most affordable way to obtain electricity in the country, making it a perfect spot to drive electric. As well as the lower operating expenditures of travelling on electricity in comparison to gasoline, EV motorists also enjoy much less routine maintenance expenditures.
For those familiar with the global automotive scene, then you will most likely know what a concept car is like. If not, then for your information, concept cars are essentially designs from the different car manufacturing companies that give us an idea on what to expect from cars in the future. Usually, the most intriguing concept cars come from the German and the Japanese car companies. This is because they are the ones who usually come up with the most realistic and the most captivating designs in the industry. One concept car that stands out from the rest is the BMW i8, also known as the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics. It is part of BMW's "Project i" and was initially unveiled in 2011 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Project i is what BMW deems to be the next prominent hallmark in the company's already illustrious history. Its main objective is to introduce the new type of car, intent on revolutionizing the whole industry. The BMW i8, identified as new luxury car by many critics is expected to go into production by this year.

Exterior

Its exterior makes it one of the most dynamic looking concept cars. This futuristic looking car is made with the most advanced materials available. For instance, its chassis is made from super lightweight aluminum. Its sunroof, windows, as well as the windshield, is made from polycarbonate glass. The doors are totally transparent. This provides you with a clear view of the car's interior.

Interior

The BMW i8 is a coupe, and it can accommodate up to four people. There are two pairs of leather seats at the front and back. The control panels are arranged in such a way that it enables you to enjoy the power this sports car has while still remaining in complete control.

Features and Performance

The BMW i8 is an ecofriendly car that does not sacrifice practicality with performance. However, unlike the i3, the i8 concept was designed specifically for the sports car fanatic. Its performance is reminiscent of the top of the line sports car, yet it is still extremely fuel efficient. It can go from 0-60 in under 5 seconds (4.8 seconds to be exact). It has a top speed of 160 miles per hour. It also emits tremendously low amounts at 99 grams per kilometer. It has a fuel consumption rating of 70 mpg. This means that it consumes only 3 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometer. This is the most salient feature of this new breed of luxury car.

The i8 is a plug-in hybrid that comes equipped with a high performance 1.5 liter, 3 cylinder combustion engine. This engine packs 220 horsepower and 221 lb-ft torque. This monster of a machine works in perfect unison with the other two electric engines. The lithium ion battery can be charged using a power supply. This battery is what enables the car to travel up to 20 miles without any fuel on its tank. The complementary design between sports car elements and ecofriendly environmentalism is what defines the i8.

This high tech and ecofriendly luxury car will be made available for purchase by 2014.

I am still very happy with it. I have even recorded with it- not to bad effect.

If you are considering taking up the recorder, but are off put by plastic instruments - don't be. The yamaha 300-series tend to be much better quality than the cheaper wooden recorders (which you will need to fork out more money for, than for the yamaha 300). I have had more than one of those lower-end wooden recorders which I've had to throw away in disgust, due to muffled tone quality, poor tuning, etc. The yamaha 300, on the other hand, is a trusty instrument, with clarity of tone.

Very highly recommended.

For the price, this recorder is one of the best plastic ones out there. If you are thinking about trying the recorder, I would highly recommend this one over the cheaper ones by buy yamaha yrs-302b soprano recorder at wwbw. The cheaper ones tend to sound shrill when you start playing the higher notes. I think that's part of the reason why recorders have such a bad reputation; kids shrieking on their school issued recorders can send any adult running. In contrast, the Yamaha 302 has a warmer tone and the higher register is not grating on the ears. It comes with a cleaning rod, cream for the joints, a fairly nice carrying case that zips, and a small insert with a fingering chart.

The only drawback to this recorder is that it tends to clog easily. The mouthpeice is thinner, which makes it more comfortable to play, but I think it contributes to the clogging. Of course, clogging in unavoidable in all plastic recorders - all my other recorders clog too so I don't think this detracts from the benefits of this model.

All in all, I have been very happy with mine and I think I could only do better by buying one of the handcrafted wood recorders that run upwards of two hundred.

2014 Mercedes Benz E-Class Car

Tracing its roots since the W124 sported the 'E' name for the first time in 1986 in the form 200E and later in 1994 when the 'E' moved to appear before the nomenclature to what we know today such as E250, the E-Class remains the pride of Daimler. The new E-Class epitomizes the midsize luxury car segment with its elegant furnishings and exacting workmanship, and even though its neither as sporty as the C-Class nor as luxurious as the S-Class, it straddles the line between the two in a retro yet stylish approach with a distinctive aura that speaks softly yet resoundingly to its peers, "enough of the staring contest; daddy's here."

Design

For 2014, the E-Class exudes what might just be the most robust facelift in its history. It boasts myriad changes, most noticeably being on the front fascia where a new nose with more refined headlights has been employed, with its signature quad-lamps now merged into two, the sort of facelift revamped on the Lexus LX570. Grille choices have been extended from its simplistic nature to appear more chic, with the AVANTGARDE version bearing two horizontal bars while the coupe and cabriolet types have a single one cutting the grille halfway and branding the Mercedes logo at the middle. The ELEGANCE trim reserves its fashion with simple chrome bars like in the C-Class. The bumper remains without any lights and rises towards the ends with a smooth line running from end to end that swoops down at the middle giving it a sublime cutting-edge appearance. Changes to the rear include the smoothing of the lines in the rear fenders but this hasn't applied to the coupe and cabriolet versions. Other changes to these versions also include downsizing of the E350 to an E250 four-cylinder engine while AMG models now embrace a standard all-wheel drive.

Performance

One E-Class is not another E-Class, well, empirically speaking. This is because there is an E-Class at almost every point of the performance curve, starting from E250 to the E63 AMG. The most common engine is the base gas-powered 3.5-litre producing 211 kW (302 hp) and accelerates from 0 - 100 km/h in about 7 seconds. This engine is very efficient, with its fuel economy ranging at 5.5 - 6.0 litres per 100 km on a broad range. The hybrid version is more economical for it sips a meagre 4 litres for the same distance. The E63 AMG has a 385 kW (550 hp) bi-turbo V8 engine which does 0 - 100 km/h in 4 seconds. (This was the fastest saloon up to 2006.) Available transmissions for the E-Class include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic referred to as the 7G-TRONIC, which is similar to VW's DSG that made the CC a remarkably fuel efficient car. An interesting innovation here is the M mode which allows some thrill since the driver can shift gears like in a manual for a pre-defined time after which the system reverts to the default automatic mode. Also standard is the ECO start/stop mode similar to Mazda's i-STOP. This switches off the engine when you stop during traffic jams and restarts when you open the throttle. This function can however be disengaged at the press of a button for the individuals who will find the switching on-and-off disconcerting.

Interior

Change is as good as rest, and in the business world organizations that keep up with the changing world always have a competitive advantage over their competitors. But while drivers of change busied themselves on the exterior panels, few of them saw their way to the inside of the 2014 Mercedes E-Class. There is still plenty of space for five adults to sit in comfort and the front seats are among the most comfortable in its segment, with the interior fit and finish in general being without reproach. I however found it as a let down by Mercedes to use vinyl seating upholstery in the base model while lesser cars like Kia entail leather seats with heated options. For models beginning with the ELEGANCE trim a choice of aluminium or carbon-look trim is available. In the base and ELEGANCE trims the instrument cluster features a black outline on each dial while AVANTGARDE versions have a silver lining about the instrument panels. The most visible change here is that the gear shift lever is nowhere to be seen. And if you think it employs the telescopic function of Jaguar's shift knob then that's not the case. Instead, gear operations are handled at the multi-functional steering wheel through the DIRECT-SHIFT lever with paddle shifters. The shifters are firm and responsive, but the COMAND system can get a bit fizzy. Rear view camera is optional on the base models but Bluetooth streaming and power sunroof are standard. Other luxurious appointments include adaptive sport seats, surround-view camera, voice-controlled navigation and a larger-than-life 1200-watt, 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen® audio system.

Safety

Key updates to the 2014 E-Class come on the electronics side, enhancing safety through an array of sensors and algorithms. It offers a blind-spot information system to monitor cars driving in the blind area of the car and a front-mounted stereo camera to monitor obstacles and traffic. Mercedes' PRE-SAFE technology is standard with an add-on: DISTRONIC-PLUS. This is essentially a system that 'detects' an oncoming accident and automatically closes windows and sunroof, tightens seatbelts, fills up air cushions and moves the seats to a safer position for example if you were reclining. Another safety innovation that was in the S-Class but is now included in the 2014 E-Class is the ATTENTION ASSIST. This system monitors your driving for the first twenty minutes so that should you start to show drowsiness or signs of fatigue it will beep alarmingly and if your attention doesn't meet required standards then it will stop. The car can also maintain a set following distance to avoid hitting the car in front and helps you keep in lane by indicating if a car is in a lane you want to change to. Together with these and other sensors the 2014 E-Class can even steer itself in limited circumstances and at a low speed.

Mazda3 Hybrid and CNG concept

Mazda’s 2013 Tokyo Motor Show stand saw the SkyActiv-Hybrid and SkyActiv-CNG versions of the third-gen Mazda3 (Axela in Japan) on display. While the hybrid’s already on sale in the country, the CNG makes its world debut here as a concept, based on the Mazda3 sedan.

The SkyActiv-CNG concept adopts a dual-fuel system that enables it to run on both petrol and compressed natural gas (CNG). CNG engines burn fuel at high pressures, and Mazda says “only minor modifications” were needed for the SkyActiv-G petrol engine because it already achieves a high 14.0 compression ratio.

The Mazda3 Hybrid is sedan-only, and Japan-only – at least for now. It borrows Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system – the battery, control system, electric motor and eCVT are the same as in the current Prius. The boot loses around 100 litres of volume, while kerb weight is up by 80 kg for a total of 1,390 kg.

The 82 PS/207 Nm hybrid drivetrain joins forces with Mazda’s own 2.0 litre SkyActiv-G four-cylinder petrol engine (detuned to 99 PS/142 Nm). JC08 fuel economy is pegged at 30.8 km per litre. Inside, there’s a revised instrument panel showing battery and charge information, plus a unique gear knob. The car has an EV mode and regenerative braking.

Tokyo 2013: Volkswagen twin up! is a plug-in hybrid

Volkswagen used its Tokyo 2013 stand to premiere a new concept car based on the up! city car. The Volkwagen twin up! concept car pairs a diesel engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox to an electric motor.

All the drive components of the twin up! are positioned at the front of the car. The front overhang has been lengthened by 30 mm to accommodate the components. The drive unit consists of a 0.8 litre two-cylinder TDI diesel engine (drived from a 1.6 litre TDI four-cylinder) producing 35 kW as well as a 35 kW electric motor. Combined output is 55 kW and 215 Nm. The electric motor is integrated between the engine and the DSG, replacing the flywheel.

The ‘fuel’ that powers the drive components are all located at the rear. This consists of a 33 litre diesel fuel tank, a 8.6 kWh lithium ion battery, as well as a regular 12V battery for the auxiliary systems. The twin up! can run in zero emissions electric mode over a distance of 50 km, and up to a top speed of 125 km/h. If the diesel engine is engaged, you can drive up to 140 km/h.

The result is an NEDC combined fuel consumption of just 1.1 litres per 100 km, and CO2 emissions of just 27 g/km. Now that’s some serious fuel efficiency!

Pick Out the Trendy Eyeglasses

When it comes to cars, older consumers are just as concerned with keeping up appearances as their younger counterparts. And they're looking to go green.

Older consumers look for a quality ride that will give them pride and prestige when they are car shopping, a new Baylor University consumer study shows.

Environmentally-friendly or "green" hybrid cars allow older drivers to save money on gas while also filling them with a sense of pride for helping the environment -- a combination that drives customer loyalty.

Researchers questioned 314 consumers age 60 and older who had bought hybrid cars. Their responses show that image is key, in addition to quality and price.

"The findings suggest that elderly consumers are concerned about how they appear to others when driving a hybrid car," the researchers said in a release.

"They believe that driving a hybrid car builds a positive self-image of the people who drive them."

In addition to being able and willing to pay more, post 50s are more likely to be environmentally friendly than younger people. A survey by retirement community developer Del Webb found 87 percent of older Americans have considered investing in green technology and 54 percent are interested in buying hybrid cars.

Sales of hybrid cars have risen in recent years, rising by around 73 percent from 2011 to 2012 to an estimated 440,000 units, according to market research firm Mintel.

"This knowledge can help as a marketing tool," said Jay Yoo, assistant professor of family and consumer sciences at Baylor University, in a release. "Hybrid cars have increased in visibility because of their environmental consciousness. So people may be willing to pay an extra $5,000 or so in order to think, 'I'm great, and this is good for the environment'."

The good news for automakers is that post 50s control a significant portion of disposable income in the economy and that the size of the older consumer group is still growing.

Nissan Leaf as a chick magnet?

Nissan has figured out what other automakers learned decades ago: a reliable way to sell a car – to a man at least – is to imply that he'll get some action out of it.

In trying to boost sales of its all-electric Leaf, the Japanese automaker has released a 30-second TV spot called Facts that ends the ad with the tagline, "Good for the world, built in America." But it also features a sharp-looking couple going out on a date on a moonlit night. They sip wine and the skip the gas station in favor of a bluff overlooking the water. A quick come-hither look from the redhead and then they heat up the car ... using a smart phone and the remote heating system. In short, the Leaf is being recast as a babe magnet.
According to Infiniti, the Q30 Concept signals the contemporary design vision for a compact Infiniti vehicle which will target a new generation of premium customers.

The concept is set to be unveiled at Infiniti’s press conference, scheduled for 10:15 am CET on September 10 in Hall 5 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Per the company, the Q30 Concept embodies Infiniti’s vision to deliver head-turning design, innovative materials with precise fit and finish and passionate craftsmanship, while provoking a radical shift in the premium compact segment.

No news or information has been revealed as to the powerplant for this concept. EV, hybrid or conventional? Many see in the picture a luxury-vehicle using Leaf propulsion components; others would liem to see the hybrid setup found in the Q50. Nothing has been confirmed and these are merely rumors.

Per Infiniti, the shape of the Q30 Concept deliberately challenges categorization – not a coupe, not a hatch and not a crossover but a fusion of the three body styles. It is designed for younger customers seeking an alternative to traditional premium compact vehicles and open to convention-challenging approaches.

Infiniti is confident this merging of the dynamic design and sportiness of a coupe, the roominess of a hatch and the higher stance of a crossover will resonate with these customers.

The Q30 Concept design language reflects the brand’s new look. The Infiniti design team, led by Executive Design Director Alfonso Albaisa, is said to have explored bolder, sensual sculpting and enhanced muscularity with the Q30 Concept as the brand’s design language continues to evolve.

Following the company’s branding and naming convention, this would be consider a car; it would’ve been designated QX30 Concept if it was to be considered a CUV.

The Q30 Concept signals the next step in an aggressive strategy to extend the Infiniti brand into new premium segments.

New-Gen BMW X5 Diesel On Its Way

BMW announced the new generation of its BMW X5 SUV will arrive in showrooms on November 16, 2013, including a new diesel version.

The launch of this third generation X5 will include the diesel-powered BMW M50d M.

Boasting what BMW qualifies as “the world’s most powerful inline-six diesel engine, suspension technology with hallmark M precision-tuning and aerodynamically honed exterior features,” the BMW X5 M50d is said to deliver on-road and off the beaten track.

BMW_X5_M50d_engine-668The BMW X5 M50d’s six-cylinder in-line diesel engine comes with three-stage turbocharging and common rail direct injection. With a displacement of 3.0-liter, it develops 381 horsepower and a peak torque of 546 pound-feet.

BMW BluePerformance technology means the M Performance SUV is also EU6-compliant. The diesel’s power is transferred to the road through an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW xDrive all-wheel drive.
Toyota announced it will increase 6-speed automatic transmission assembly and machining capacity by 20,000 per month in early 2015 at its Buffalo powertrain plant and Bodine Aluminum casting facilities in Missouri and Tennessee.

Toyota said this project will create more than 100 jobs.

Fifteen years after starting production in 1998, Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia (TMMWV) has built over 10 million powertrain (engines and transmissions), and today, Toyota is investing a combined $102 million in manufacturing facilities to meet increased consumer demand for Toyotas and the engines that power them.

$90 million will go directly to TMMWV, raising total plant investment to more than $1.4 billion and creating about 80 jobs.

TMMWV currently produces 500,000 transmissions per year, and this investment will increase production to 740,000 transmissions per year starting in 2015.

“This capacity increase helps us meet growing North American demand and is a part of our localization strategy to ‘build where we sell,’” said Millie Marshall, TMMWV senior vice president of manufacturing and administration. “This latest investment helps us better serve our North American customers and prepares us for an even brighter future.”

TMMWV builds six-speed transmissions for the Avalon, Camry, Highlander, Lexus RX350, Sienna and Venza.

From Mississippi to Indiana and in between, all of these cars are built in North America.

“Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia has been a dedicated corporate citizen for more than 15 years, and with today’s announcement has expanded eight times since first opening. This continued growth is a testament to the hard-working Toyota team members who have committed themselves to producing quality powertrain at the Buffalo plant,” said West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. “The company’s continued investment in the Mountain State is also a testament to the business climate we’ve worked hard to create – one that encourages companies to expand, innovate, and create new jobs. On behalf of all West Virginians, I thank Toyota for the company’s continued confidence in our workforce.”

Toyota also announced that Bodine Aluminum, a Toyota casting part manufacturing facility, will invest $11 million at its Troy, Mo. plant and $1 million in Jackson, Tenn. to provide transmission cases and housing parts to Toyota West Virginia.

“This expansion at Bodine Aluminum’s facility in Troy marks another important milestone for Bodine and Toyota, for this community, and for Missouri’s resurgent automotive manufacturing industry,” Missouri Governor Jay Nixon said. “As a state, we will keep pursuing proven, fiscally responsible policies and making smart, strategic investments to move this industry and our economy forward, so that auto industry jobs in Troy and throughout Missouri can continue to grow.”

Detroit Electric To Begin SP:01 Production Q4 In The Netherlands

The revived U.S. company operating under the name of the former Detroit Electric is being further delayed in plans to produce its SP:01 in the U.S., but meanwhile will begin European production fourth quarter this year in Holland.

In June we reported the company had pushed back an August start date to September for production of the $135,000 electric car in Wayne County, Mich.

Now it says it will begin the limited production run of 999 units at the company’s existing plant in the EV-friendly Netherlands.

The company is still seeking to meet U.S. federal safety standards so it can eventually produce the Lotus-based cars in Michigan as well.

Detroit Electric is an iconic name of an American electric car company that went out of business in 1939 and was “rebooted” in 2008 by UK-based former Lotus Engineering Group boss Albert Lam.

Lam said the idea is indeed to start an American company and is determined to see original goals met.

“We are Detroit Electric, not London Electric,” said Lam.

As Toyota prepares its 2015 launch of a production fuel cell sedan powered by a “world’s best” fuel cell stack, the company has said it will reveal a close-up view of the car this November in Japan.

“At the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, we unveiled the FCVR fuel cell concept [pictured],” said Toyota Managing Officer Satoshi Ogiso this week at a Toyota media event in Michigan. “This year at the Tokyo Motor show, we will get a bit more specific, when we unveil a well-defined mid-size four-door sedan concept.”

The fuel cell car is intended as part of a long-term strategy Toyota envisions that will include also hybridized versions of all its vehicles and battery electric cars as battery technology advances to the point that the automaker deems it viable for its mass-market purposes.

After the November Tokyo reveal, in January 2014 Toyota’s sedan will make its North American debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, said Ogiso.

At that time, Ogiso said, Toyota’s Bob Carter, senior vice president, Automotive Operations, will provide further details on the role of Toyota’s U.S.-based engineering team in the FCV’s development as well as some preliminary plans for introduction into the U.S. market.

“For now, I can tell you that the hydrogen fuel cell stack is currently developing 3kw per liter of power density,” said Ogiso. “We believe that’s a ‘world’s best’ and about twice that of the fuel stack we have been using for the Highlander fuel cell hybrid vehicle.”

When this Japanese automobile giant first announced their intent to develop a hybrid concept about two years ago, it was assumed that their next Altima sedan would make use of such technology. To find that Nissan's foray into the world of hyper-fuel-efficiency is to be marked by a crossover SUV comes as a surprise, albeit a pleasant one.

The hybrid model is to mirror the exterior design of the previously launched Pathfinder model. It has a tall, rugged look, the sharpness of which is somewhat balanced out by curvaceous lines and soft, clean edges. Unlike other contemporary, mid-sized crossovers, Nissan's hybrid has a seating capacity of 7, arranged in the classic 3 row format. Other than the innovation of LED taillights and hybrid-specific information screens, there have been few alterations in the original Pathfinder's interior or external design.

In terms of the hybrid driveline the new Pathfinder shall be using, the specifics are nothing short of impressive. It is empowered with a 2.5 liter, supercharged 4 cylinder engine alongside a 15 kW electric motor; together they produce 250 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. This means that while the hybrid produces less horsepower and towing capacity than the last generation model, it offers more torque and 24% better fuel economy. The estimated fuel economy is 25 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on highways, and 26 mpg combined. The only shortcoming perhaps is that the Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid does not have an electric-only mode for low speeds, though the gas engine shuts down during deceleration and/or coasting.

What is extremely interesting about this upcoming Nissan model is that it is expected to be priced roughly $3,000 above the original model, which would be around $35-37,000. This means that it would cost significantly lesser than other 2014 Crossover SUV models, which provide but little more than the Pathfinder Hybrid. This model shall thus occupy a special space in the automobile market. It is the first non-luxury, fuel efficient and affordable crossover SUV to enter the market.

When the Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid will be launched in the market, reportedly late this summer, it is likely to add more fuel to the fiery battle of the green (fuel-efficient, hybrid) crossovers. Currently, all the big players in the business are looking to combine sporty-looks with utility and luxury with fuel efficiency. Nissan has now added affordability into the equation, thus widening its potential consumer base. It is unlikely that other mid-segment brands will not follow suit. Therefore, one may assume that good times lie ahead of SUV-enthusiasts who unfortunately have a limited budget. As and when these manufacturers shall compete with one another for better models offering more and more at lower prices, buyers can be assured to have a wider range of options available to them, especially if hybrid SUVs are what they are looking for.

Nissan Management Changes to Benefit Electric Car Sales

Automobile giant Nissan Motor has this week confirmed that the company's chief operating officer will now take control of the electric vehicle division. This will be in addition to his high-profile role at the top of the company's pecking order and while a little disappointing in the short term, due to the fact it occurred because of disappointing sales, it is good news for the future.

The company had hoped to sell 20,000 units of its award-winning Nissan Leaf electric vehicle into the US market during 2012 although unfortunately final sales were less than 10,000 last year. This prompted a major rethink with regards to the company's electric vehicle business hence the management shakeup and more high-profile strategy going forward.

The Nissan Leaf

The Nissan Leaf is one of the more popular electric vehicles available today and was being used by Nissan as a means to crack the US market. While the company did increase sales dramatically compared to 2011, it was from a relatively low base and no progress was made with regards to the 20,000 unit target.

Interestingly, the company seems to have recognised the failing sales of the Nissan Leaf during 2012 having brought out what is known as an "entry level" version. This was ahead of the launch of the Nissan Leaf 2013 upgrade which will incorporate the most efficient electric motor technology available, as well as additional technology for in car systems and also offer a journey capacity approaching 150 miles.

Is Nissan serious about the electric vehicle market?

While there is no getting away from the fact that sales of electric vehicles overall were disappointing during 2012 compared to projections, this is not the end of the world. We must appreciate that the worldwide economy is struggling, individual countries are struggling to control their budgets and to all intents and purposes electric vehicles are not exactly top of the political agenda.

However, during this difficult period for automobile sales as a whole the likes of Nissan have always been very supportive of the industry both in terms of time, money and effort. Only last year the company was suggesting that electric car sales would make up 10% of worldwide automobile sales by the end of the decade which was certainly a very positive forecast going forward. Whether or not sales will reach this target during the current decade remains to be seen although there are signs of movement.

Too far to turn back now

The fact that the electric car industry has been around for in excess of 200 years is often overlooked by the general public. Electric cars have experienced a number of false dawns over the last 30 or 40 years and indeed the debacle of the turn-of-the-century involving the EV1 perfectly illustrates this fact. However, companies such as Nissan, governments around the world and, to a lesser extent, consumers have invested far too much time, money and effort to allow the industry to fail once again.

Recently we saw the likes of China stepping forward to support the electric vehicle industry, we saw the Chinese authorities funding local companies to acquire overseas electric vehicle assets and the government of China also issued a number of very upbeat and promising sales forecasts. There is momentum behind the electric vehicle market, there is finance available and the technology is certainly improving on a month by month basis. It will be interesting to see whether 2013 is indeed the turning point many are predicting for the EV market and whether those who have fallen by the wayside, reduced their expenditure and dismissed their exposure will regret their relatively short-term approach to a long-term industry.

Different Sources of Fuel Available

For many years inventors around the world have dreamed about the time when they would be able to separate the hydrogen in water to be able to create a new product that would help automobiles run. The possibility of a water fulled car became a reality when an Australian inventor - Yul Brown separated the hydrogen and oxygen molecules in water. The fuel that he produced was known as HHO gas. This HHO gas fuel can be used as automobile fuel or even for welding.

How Does an HHO Run Car Work?

HHO gas systems work on the principle of using electricity from your car's alternator to run an electric current through water that has been mixed with an electrolyte similar to salt. The electricity generated is able to break the bond between hydrogen and oxygen which are then released as gases. These gases are collected and used by the engine of your vehicle as fuel. The creators of this fuel believe that since hydrogen is much denser that regular automobile fuel only a little will be needed for your automobile to run. This process then turns the gases back into water and the process begins again. This type of fuel also helps reduce carbon emissions and increase the mileage.

Will HHO Run Cars Be Able to Work?

While cars that run on hydrogen generator kits might work, many experts argue that it takes a lot of energy to actually create the gas. This means that the speed of conversion might not match the speed at which the car is consuming this fuel to run. In other words, it is not possible for your car's alternator to produce the amount of current that is needed to generate the HHO necessary for it to run. While there are drawbacks to this system with some research and development there is a possibility that cars like this might be available to you in the future.

Other Alternative Fuels Being Developed

There are a number of alternative hydrogen fuel savers that are being considered. Cellulose ethanol is one such fuel but the process of fermentation is expensive. There are a number of cars that are powered by electricity. They are charged using electricity that is generated at power plants that use coal and gas which emit harmful substances, defeating the purpose. HHO gas fuel is one of the simplest alternative fuel sources available at the moment.
