Costing a staggering amount of more than a million US dollars to build, this pride of the nation is occupied by mainly Petronas and associate companies. Visitors are permitted to access the Petronas Twin Towers for free, but there is a limitation of 1700 sight-seers pay day. Kuala Lumpur Railway Station

Kuala Lumpur is also a place that is rich in history and can give you a beautiful ride back into the past even amidst the hustle and bustle of city life. This fantastic transit avenue was built way back in 1910, designed by the famed architect of that time, Arthur Benison Hubbock. This is the same architect who designed the Jamek Mosque. The Malaysian Railway Administration Building is one more classic example of architecture of these times, and can be seen just across the road from the Kuala Lumpur Railway station. If you visit it today, it is furnished with air-conditioned waiting areas, money change counters, eating places and stalls to purchase mementos. Yet, its historical touch is still intact. National Science Centre

The National Science Centre is the ideal place to quench the thirst of inquisitive minds, whether you are alone or with family. This is a place you might want to go if you wish to spend at least half a day at one centre. Located in Bukit Kiara, the north west of Kuala Lumpur, this building stands out with its futuristic architecture. Once you enter this building, you will be occupied by science and technology exhibitions. A trip to the National Science Centre is a thrilling experience as you will be greeted by fish swimming in the freshwater aquariums in a tunnel above you. A simulation of the Malaysian rainforest is also available to give you a feel of the jungle. Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens

Nature lovers would definitely love a stroll in the Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens, which is situated in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. Also known as Taman Tasik Perdana, in Malay, this lake stretches to almost 92 hectares of lush greenery that is sprinkled with pretty flowers. This park surrounds an artificial lake and comprises of the Hibiscus Garden, the Orchid Garden, the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park and Deer Park among others – placing astonishing species of flora and fauna before your very eyes. You can also find the Malaysian National Monument that honors those who died in the fight against the Communist rebellion in the 1950. This happens to be one of the largest self-supporting bronze compositions in the world too. Within this lake garden also lays a pair of British stately mansions that were built during the 19th century. Standing proud on top of the hill, it is called the Carcosa Seri Negara. This was once the residence of the British Governor and has now become an exclusive hotel. Besides relishing the surrounding beauty, you can run, jog, exercise or even row boats in this green haven. So, you might like to be reminded to wear comfortable shoes and clothes for a pleasant experience.

Petaling Street

A trip to Kuala Lumpur will most certainly be incomplete without a tour along the Petaling Street. The Petaling Street is the authentic Chinatown of this city and you will see it at its peak when night falls. Hustling and bustling with voices of customers haggling over prices, the street bursts out with energy. You can find almost anything that you may think of buying, all here on this teeming boulevard. T-shirts, handbags, gems, women’s accessories, camping gear, watches, toys, perfumes, and the list goes on – the vendors spread it all in front of you, awaiting your pick. There is not one moment of silence in this street, and you will find it an interesting experience to just walk around, take in the atmosphere, and feast your eyes upon all the things put up for sale - whether or not you are actually intending to make a purchase. The Kinabalu Park Sabah Malaysia covers an area of 754 sq km and is made up of Mount Kinabalu, Mount Tambayukon and the foothills.

Kinabalu Park Sabah Malaysia was gazetted to preserve this valuable natural environment.

The mountains have a fascinating geological history, taking 'just' a million years to form.

The mighty Mount Kinabalu is actually a granite massif that was later thrust upwards through the crust of the surface.

Subsequent erosion removed thousands of feet of the overlying sand and mud stone, exposing this massif.

During the Ice Age, glaciers running across the summit smoothed it out, but the jagged peaks that stood out above the ice surface remained unaffected, retaining the extremely ragged surfaces.

This rugged mountain is the focal point of the National Park.

If you plan to climb the mountain, be sure to bring a head torch for the early morning climb to the summit which starts in utter darkness and cold weather gear.

The summit temperatures have been known to dip to below freezing!

There are many things to see and do in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia's largest highland resort.

Walks through lovely little villages, visits to the butterfly, strawberry, honey bee farms and sprawling tea plantations or meals at the delightful Tudor-styled country inns, are all pleasurable and relaxing activities to be experienced here.

You can't beat the weather up here.

A few days out of the sweltering lowland heat will surely recharge your batteries.

One other popular activity in Cameron Highlands, actually more of a tradition, is to have tea and scones.

This very English tradition dates back to the days when English colonial officers used this hilly location as a cool getaway from the heat of the lowlands.

Bird-watching and trekking are also popular activities here.

Situated 1,500 metres above sea level, Cameron Highlands comprises a series of little townships that include Ringlet, Tanah Rata, Brinchang, Tringkap, Kuala Terla and Kampung Raja.

What's more, it's easy to get to. Cameron Highlands lies less than an hour off the main North-South Highway, and is a pleasant, easy 3.5-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur.

Tips - When trekking, please check with your host if the weather is suitable for the trail you want to take. Also, do let your host know when you plan to be back and what trail you are taking.

How To Go To Cameron Highlands Malaysia :-

By Road - Cameron Highlands is accessible via Tapah or the new highway at Simpang Pulai. If you are driving up from Kuala Lumpur, the Simpang Pulai exit takes an additional 45 minutes to reach the north of Tapah using the North-South Expressway. The ascent along this route is much smoother and less precarious than the route from Tapah.

By Bus or Taxi - Bus and Taxi services are available from the Puduraya Terminal in Kuala Lumpur and the journey will take you to Tanah Rata. Alternatively, take a train to Tapah and then continue your journey in a taxi or a bus.

TIOMAN ISLAND, 14 May 2008 -- KDYTM Tengku Mahkota Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Ibni Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah officiated the launch of the TAT Turtle Sanctuary at Mentawak Beach, Juara Village.

For generations, long before there were people staying on Tioman Island, the sea turtles have found refuge at the shores of the island from the month of April till October. Brought in by the waves of the South China Sea, the sea turtles come by the thousands to produce the next generation.

During the launch, Tengku Mahkota has set free into the ocean a sea turtle with a satellite detector fixed on its shell. This is to enable researchers to determine the particular sea turtle's migration journey.

TAT Turtle Sanctuary also houses Jo, a blind sea turtle that has been born into the project in 2006. Jo cannot survive on its own in the natural environment and has to be handfed. TAT Turtle Sanctuary looks forward to increase Jo's living space by creating an offshore floating compound.

TAT Turtle Sanctuary works alongside the United World College in Singapore, sending about 1,000 students over annually to contribute to the project.

The Sultan of Pahang, KDYMM Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Mustain Billah ibni Almarhum Sultan Sir Abu Bakar Riayatuddin Al-Muadzam Shah, has donated a generous $50,000 to TAT Turtle Sanctuary for their future endeavours during the closing ceremony of the Sultan Ahmad Shah Tioman International Eco-Challenge on May 15.

With the width of 90 metres and height of 35 metres, the Strange World Screen comprises the world's largest and most powerful high-tech water screens. Crafted from screenplay showcasing a fluid series of dynamic Malaysian images, lighting effects and high-tech laser artistry, this show will be accompanied by a world premiere musical soundtrack composed by Chong Lim, the internationally acclaimed Malaysian musical director known for his work for the stage and screen and with superstars such as Kylie Minogue.

Also being launched tonight is Spectacular Sphere which comprises of large scale floating sphere sculptures that combine fantastic water, lighting and projection effects to illuminate Putrajaya Lake at night to the beat of a captivating soundtrack.

Pn Jamilah Itam, Business Director of AD Suria, said: "Our aim of bringing in the unique Malaysia International Spectacular showcase to Putrajaya is to present a world-class show as Putrajaya's part in making Visit Malaysia Year 2008 a truly memorable experience for Malaysians and tourists alike."

The Strange World Screen and Spectacular Spheres will run nightly at 9 pm and 10 pm from 27 March 2008 to 31 May 2008.

Innovation and Mobile Internet Usage drive Maxis' exceptional Growth

Maxis Communications Berhad ("Maxis") today announced that their active 3G user base has grown to 1.3 million at end March this year, compared to approximately 350,000 in March 2007. The more than three-fold (270 percent) year-on-year growth underlines the growing demand for data services.

"We are happy with the growth in 3G users. It has been a hard grind and has come on the back of a three-fold increase in 3G network coverage and exciting content offerings. Wireless Broadband (HSDPA) has also gained traction for similar reasons. We all know that Malaysia is in the top heap of internet-savvy countries and it is obvious that mobile phones are broadening that usage," said Maxis Chief Executive Sandip Das.

"Innovation in mobile telecommunications is a fast-moving target - what is innovative today becomes quickly obsolete tomorrow. Maxis has kept pace with mobile innovation and some of its moves have been 'Global Firsts'. This is what has set us apart as a service provider."

Sandip Das said this at the company's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, while hosting Maxis' inaugural Discovery Series media event, a quarterly showcase of Maxis mobile data innovation and advanced data services. "The encouraging growth of our active 3G base was driven mainly by the large catalogue of content-rich data products Maxis offers to our customers as well as the increasingly popular use of handsets to access mobile internet services like search, browsing and social networking," explained Dobberstein.

The 1.3 million active 3G base makes up almost half of the larger base of 2.8 million subscribers actively using Maxis' mobile data services over GPRS, EDGE and 3G.

"Our 2.8 million active data users use a wide range of different services, but the most popular service is our own Maxis Wap portal, which records 15 to 20 million hits a month on average now," said T. Kugan. "This kind of visitor traffic trend puts our mobile portal in the same ranks as top internet sites in Malaysia."

At the event, Maxis also announced the launch of three new products: Complete Phone Backup, Email Xpress and i-Share by M-money - all firsts in Malaysia. (For more information on these products, please refer to the Product Description below.)

Maxis' Complete Phone Backup safeguards all information such as phone book contacts, short messages ("SMS") and multimedia messages ("MMS"), emails, calendar, notes as well as all content downloads like ringtones, video and games. Traditional back-up services in the past were SIM-based and limited to phonebook content and text messages.

The new service will allow customers to create a complete back-up of all their phone data and content. Maxis and Hotlink customers subscribing to the service will no longer have to worry about losing their phone numbers and data if they lose or change their mobile phone.

"Functioning as a rolodex, a diary, a photo album and even as a music and video library, the mobile phone has evolved to become an all-encompassing tool. Safeguarding the data content of this modern day life-organiser is crucial. With this complete back-up service, our customers are reassured that data that is important to them can be saved and restored onto a new device at anytime, should the need arise," explained Kugan.

Email Xpress is a real-time Push Email solution that simplifies accessing your email on your mobile phone and supports popular email domains like Streamyx, Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo. The service is offered to both postpaid and prepaid subscribers, and uses a Java application that allows mailbox synchronisation, a feature that other available 'push email' solutions do not offer.

Hotlink i-Share by M-money is a prepaid service that allows Maxis' prepaid customers to instantly send airtime value from their phones to family and friends who have prepaid accounts with Indonesia's leading mobile operators Telkomsel and Indosat. This service is an extension of other Maxis mobile commerce initiatives in the M-money suite of services, including mobile remittance.

"Although the i-Share service launch was just two weeks ago, the response - mainly from our prepaid migrant customers - has been very good," Dobberstein elaborated. "Our partnership with Telkomsel and Indosat means that our prepaid customers have access to over 75 percent of the Indonesian prepaid user base."

In addition to new products, Maxis' Discovery Series event showcased the operator's other popular mobile data products, within the themes of 'Internet', 'Safety and Security' and 'Entertainment'. On show were mobile internet services for search, browsing and social networking, mobile entertainment like mobile TV, music and games, as well as remote surveillance, location-based services like Friend and Family Finder and GPS-based services like Google Maps.

Malaysia Mammogram Screening Program - Early Detection Saves Lives.

Introduction

In the 2007 Budget Policy, the Government has approved the proposal from the Ministry Of Women, Family and Community Development (MWFC) to provide a RM50 subsidy for every mammogram done in private clinics and hospitals registered with LPPKN.
The objective of the subsidy is to promote greater awareness among women in the eligible group to undergo mammogram screening for early detection of breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in women in Malaysia. Women aged 40 and above are encouraged to undergo mammogram screening apart from performing self breast examination and clinical breast examination.

Who qualifies for the subsidy ?

Women who qualify for the subsidy are Malaysian citizens and permanent residents, aged 40-69 years, with monthly household income of RM5,000.00 or less and fulfilling one of the criteria below :-

Women at high risk for breast cancer
or
Women referred for diagnostic mammogram
or
Mammogram screening before starting hormone replacement theraphy
or
Repeat mammogram for those already in the subsidy programme

Criteria for High Risk Women

Having one of the following factors :-

- Family history of breast cancer

- Mother, sisters or daughters ever had breast cancer before the age of 50 years; and

- Two or more maternal or paternal relatives ever had breast cancer (grandmother, aunt, niece)

- Previous history of atypia on breast biopsy; or

- Previous history of breast cancer or ovarian cancer; or

- Currently on hormone replacement theraphy or

Having two of the following factors :-

- Family history of ovarian cancer

- Mother, sisters or daughters ever had ovarian cancer before the age of 50 years; and

- Two or more maternal or paternal relatives ever had ovarian cancer (grandmother, aunt, niece)

- Women who have no children or who had their first child after the age 30 years; or

- Had the first menstrual period before the age of 12; or

- Body Mass Index of more than 30

Women who are interested may apply at any LPPKN clinics nationwide. Those eligible will have to undergo breast examination of the clinic prior to referral for mammogram.

" The complex pays tribute to warriors such as Dato' Sagor and Dato' Maharaja Lela, who led the locals against the forces of the British colonial administration."

This is the place where the flames of Malay nationalism had first stirred. When the then British Resident of Perak, J.W.W. Birch was assassinated on the bank of Sungai Perak (Perak River), tension between the British colonial administration and the Malays rose.

It escalated into open conflict which eventually led to the country's declaration of independence.

Located about 70km from Ipoh, the Historical Complex pays tribute to warriors such as Dato' Sagor and Dato' Maharaja Lela; there are memorials erected in their honour, in the shape of a sundang (broad sword), a replica of the type of knife used in the killing of Mr. Birch.

Other attractions at the complex include the J.W.W. Birch Monument, the grave of Sipuntum (the alleged assassin), Datuk Maharaja Lela's fort, the Lela Rentaka cannons used against the British colonial army, and two Rumah Kutai (Perak traditional house) filled with local historical and cultural artefacts.

Currently, the resort at Pasir Salak Historical Complex is undergoing renovation while the complex itself is still open to the public.

In line with this, the celebration will therefore be rebranded as the “Colours and Flavours of Malaysia” a combination of the former events of Colours of Malaysia and Flavours of Malaysia.

The national-level parade celebration will be held on 24th May, 2008 at Dataran Perdana in Putrajaya will be officiated by their Majesties, the King and Queen of Malaysia where more than 50,000 spectators and 1,600 performers are expected to converge for what promises to be an unforgettable night of high-tech visual displays and choreographed performances, highlighting Malaysia’s multi-faceted attractions.

This year’s parade will also feature a dramatic shift from its previous years’ format and combines both theatrical and street performance into one night’s activities. While the main event of laser shows, fireworks, live celebrity performers, cultural dancers and musicians take to the centrestage beginning 8.30pm, the “real-party” or the Post Show begins after 10.30pm where the audience will be able to take to the large boulevard to join in the dancing and merry-making.

And as part of the Ministry of Tourism’s new endeavour to spread the success of the celebration to a larger audience via a “destination-based events” platform, several other venues have also been earmarked for state-level parade and feasting celebrations.

The month of May will be most spectacular this month with the cultural extravaganza Sabah Fest here in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Activities:

Harmony in Diversity is the theme for Sabah Fest this year, fittingly describing the life of Sabah’s peoples who live in unity despite the variety of cultures. The common event of a union between different ethnic races will be presented during the concert in the marriage ceremonies between a Bajau groom and a Murut bride. A multitude of cultural dances and traditional music performances will also be on the menu during the evening concerts held on these two days. There will be an array of unique and seldom seen dances such as the medtemu, pangkulian and the igal-igal. Come and be entertained by these and other wonderful dances that will be performed on these two nights!

While the concert is the highlight of the two days, interesting exhibitions will be held throughout the two days at the foyer of the Magellan Grand Ballroom from 10:00am to 10:00pm. Some of Sabah’s top spas and wellness centres will be offering traditional treatments while beautiful crafts as well as delectable ethnic food will be sold.

This year, there will be a special cultural experience at the Heritage Village as part of the Sabah Fest programme. The Rungus community will present the Moginum/Manimbang (fertility) ritual at the longhouse while Lotud house will be venue for the Mamahui (house-cleansing) ritual. Other interesting activities include traditional-handicraft making; a showcase of the Murut traditional game, the Lansaran; a Lotud musical performance called the Mojumbak; ethnic food sampling and a showcase of traditional dances. Interactive games will also take place for all to enjoy, including bamboo-stilt walking and 'sepak manggis'. At 11:00am and 3:00pm, join us at the main stage for a colourful cultural performance. QUEEN VICTORIA MAIDEN CALL AT PORT KLANG MALAYSIA

As part of her 2008 World Cruise – Pathway to the Explorers – Queen Victoria (QV) entered Malaysian waters and anchored at Port Klang on 19 March 2008. Queen Victoria is Cunard Line’s newest cruise liner and one of the world’s most opulent passenger vessels. Queen Victoria carries on Cunard’s distinctive heritage and is hailed as the most luxurious Cunarder ever built.

Upon her first-ever arrival at Port Klang, a warm welcome reception awaited the 2,000 passengers and 1,003 crew members who disembarked for their shore excursions to Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

To celebrate this historic occasion, VIP guests and members of the media were welcomed onboard to witness the traditional plaque exchange ceremony between the ship and Star Cruises Terminal. The guests of honor included Director-General of Tourism Malaysia, Dato’ Mirza Mohammad Taiyab; British High Commission Director of Trade & Investment, Mr Trevor Lewis; Chairman of Port Klang Authority, Dato’ Chor Chee Heung; and Star Cruises Senior Vice President of Marine Operations, Mr Gustaf Gronberg. Other than the VIP guests and media, past passengers and members of the travel trade also had the privilege of being among the first Malaysians to board the majestic ship for an exclusive tour followed by a lunch reception.

Spread over an area of 100sq. km, Kilim Geoforest Park features a beautiful mix of well protected green mangrove forests, isolated white beaches and blue lagoons. Along the trail, passing through calm winding river, you will be exposed to the wonders of the park's marine ecosystem, flora and fauna and its natural habitats. Some tour operators will stop at a special spot along the river where they feed the eagles, found in great numbers here. These include the white-bellied fish eagle, brahminy kite and the gigantic sea eagles. Kilim Geoforest Park is also a great place for some birdwatching during the migratory seasons in September and March.

Anticipation was mounting for first timers and others alike as they were prepared even before the sunrise at the river bank near Dataran Lang. Differed by age, 700 participants from 38 countries were afloat at the first signal at 7.30am, getting ready for their first round of the triathlon -- swimming 3.8km. The race officially started at 7.45am.

Mathieu Ohalloran, 22, from Canada was leading in the swim, which gave him the upper hand to bike. Following behind him in less than an hour was Faris Al Sultan, 30, from Germany. In the women's category Hillary Biscay, 29, from USA was in the lead and this is her first time here to compete in Langkawi. Second place in the swimming competition was Elmar Schuberth from Austria.

However the final result, exclaimed by the energetic emcee, Whit Raymond was different. Faris Al Sultan is now officially the champ and Ironman of Langkawi Ironman Triathlon 2008. He was amazingly an hour and 50 minutes ahead of the initial targeted time. He reached at 8 hours 34 minutes and 41 seconds.

The Ironman in the women's category for this year also differed despite Hillary's lead. Australia born 37 year old Belinda Granger stole the title as she crossed the finish line at 9 hours 29 minutes and 20 seconds with a big grin. She has won many triathlons, among them are at Quelle Wanaka New Zealand and Ironman Singapore.

"I'm very thrilled that I won as I was not in the lead from the beginning," said Belinda during a short 'interrogation' by Whit.

Faris on the other hand said he won because he is a pro. He is indeed a professional triathlete and the winner of the recent Ironman Triathlon in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

His win today allows him to compete in Kona, Hawaii.

As the crowd keep pouring in at Dataran Lang to view this spectacular event, the organisers, contestants and others alike are eagerly waiting for all of the other contestants to complete their race. The race is expected to end after midnight. It will be all massages and good rest for those who have already made it to the finish line.
