Local Area Network (LAN):

If we want to make computer network in one building or office then we create Local Area Network which normally known as LAN. The Local Area Network (LAN) is designed to connect multiple devices and systems within a small geographical distance.

Characteristics of LAN Network:

The speed of data transmission in the LAN network is relatively higher than the other types of network because of small geographical area.

LAN uses private network IP addresses for network connectivity for data and services exchange, and it uses cable or wired media for network connection.

Metropolitan Area Network (MAN):

There is a metropolitan area network (MAN) that is larger than a local area network (LAN). Metropolitan area network (MAN) connect multiple computers within metropolitan area which could be large city, different campuses of any college or school etc. Simply If we connect multiple LAN networks together then we called this technique as a MAN.

Characteristics of MAN Network:

· It can cover the area from 5 to 50 km range, which is capable of carrying data from a different building to the whole city.

· In MAN, data rates are moderate to high.

WHAT IS COMPUTER NETWORK?

Definition:

Interconnection of two or more computers or devices for the purpose of sharing information and resources via some medium which can be wired or wireless.

Interconnection means connecting two or more devices together (connecting two computers with each other through wire or Wi_fi).

For example:

If we want to share some data (files, audio, video.) from computer to mobile we will connect them together with wire (USB cable) or wirelessly (Bluetooth, wi_fi).

in todays world every organization and office work based on computer they share data between each other and they also share some resources.

Resource sharing:

Resource sharing means sharing some common devices between multiple computers for example if we have one printer and 2 computers then we share printer with both computers is called resources sharing.

Medium:

Medium refers to a way that how we connect computers together. There are main two types of medium.

Guided Medium (wired)
Unguided medium (wireless)

Guided Medium:

Guided medium means any medium which uses any cable or wire to connect computer.

There are different cables uses in guided medium (wired medium)
