Star Wars Episode 7 - What You Ned to Know So Far!

It might be time to pick-up your Kindle and rewatch the original Star Wars trilogy because a new set of movies is coming soon. Namely, we can expect Star Wars: Episode VII to hit theaters right on December 18, 2015. In all honesty we can all agree that this is still quite some time away from today. Nonetheless, it is certainly good news that all Star Wars fans can rejoice to.

Today’s article will be dedicated to analyzing recent reports from the unofficial Star Wars 7 news blog and looking at just how good their info really is. While it is obviously too early to talk details about the movie there is a lot of gossip, hear-say and rumors flooding the entire Net and we’re here to shed some light on the situation. We’ll talk a bit about the rumors and then show you the leaked photo of the awesome new X-Wing design.

In a Galaxy Not So Far Away and Only 30 Years into the Future

If you haven’t heard by mow J.J. Abrams is directing the movie and he’s casted Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill to replay their original roles. Now, since they haven’t exactly got any younger over past few decades since we last saw them on the big screen, you can expect that that means that the story will take place roughly 30 years from where Episode VI left off.

This is of course not been confirmed by Lucasfim (or rather, Disney) but we can be fairly sure that this information is at the very least quite logical and to be expected.

So, do we have a synopsis? Not really and your guess is as good as mine. However, we can pretty much assume that one of these two options has happened:

The Rebels have used the momentum from their victory in Episode VI and have likely completely defeated the evil Empire and established a New Republic.
Or, the Empire still exists, along with a New Republic. They might still be at war, or they have some sort of non-aggression pact or temporary peace treaty.

It is extremely difficult to guess anything related to the new movie because Disney has decided to throw the Expanded Universe out the window. This means that many years of work that were invested into establishing a strong story have gone to waste and you won’t see them on the big screen any time soon.

The First Rumored Title “Star Wars Episode VII: The Ancient Fear”

One of the earliest titles to be “leaked” for the new movie is “The Ancient Fear” and it came with an interesting synopsis. However, I have to say that it sounds a bit cliché and we’ve seen this already in other Sci-Fi movies. The idea is that Luke Skywalker will rebuild the Jedi Order and one day set off on a mission with some of his young Jedi disciples to explore some old ruins. The idea is that they are searching for some sort of weapon that they need to secure before the enemy can get its hands on it.

The problem is that this weapon is not anything physical – but rather a Force Ghost of an ancient Sith warlord who became immortal in the Force. The idea is that they will awaken his spirit and that the Force Ghost might possess one of Luke’s students and come back into the world of the living.

This in pair with an upcoming war with the remnants of the Empire makes for a hell of a seating, but as mentioned before I do find it rather disappointing and cliché. Of course, there is no reason to believe this is actually true!

A Leaked Photo of the X-Wing

The Star Wars 7 news site that we mentioned at the top of the article posted a series of interesting leaked photos that show the new X-Wing models. The photos are legit and they were taken from the official Star Wars set in Greenham Common, an abandoned military air base that was refitted for the purposes of this movie.

Amazon Smartphones Coming in 2014?

There's this article on a Serbian blog that I write for that got me thinking about the cost-effectiveness of having a Amazon smartphone on the market. You can read the full mobile industry analysis here if you can translate it, but I will focus on what I feel is important for this blog - the news that Amazon is interested in making a smartphone! Considering their awesome success with the Kindle Fire tablets I bet that this would be a great investment.

I hate the name, but I think we all get the idea

Will this be the forgotten Amazon Blaze? I have to admit that I love that name and that I would really love a series of phones using it as their commercial title. Just imagine the marketing possibilities: Amazon smartphones - BLAZE your way! And if they published a few with the Firefox OS that would be hilarious! Anyway, I should really get back to the point of this article, but even I am not sure what that is. Maybe a shocking headline could help us focus more?

HTC to Make Amazon's Smartphones?

Oh, doesn't that catch your attention all of a sudden? The fact on the matter is that HTC is currently standing on thin ice and they need a good business partner to help them save their company. In Q3 of 2013 the company had actually lost a money - a total of $101 million which isn't a small sum of money by all means. A deal to make phones for Amazon would certainly help HTC not just by allowing them to make more money, but by improving their reputation.

Let us face it - not a lot of people in the US know about this company and they don't think of it as the most reliable and trustworthy brand out there. Their cooperation with Facebook doesn't seem to have provided much so maybe Amazon will bring them more luck?

Also, if you choose to believe Bloomber, then HTC and Amazon have been talking about this for a long time - in fact all the way back in June they started to plan ahead?

Amazon Prime = Free Phones?

So this is a possibility right? Let us say that if you subscribe to Amazon Prime for a year (or two) you can claim your Amazon smarthphone device for free. Wouldn't that be a great thing from a consumer point of view? And what about Amazon, will they have further profit from this? Their Kindle tablets are already being sold dirt cheap, but they are certainly generating more than enough income via Amazon's ecosystem.

However, will phones pay for themselves via app purchases and product sales? What sort of specs, quality and features should we expect from Amazon? Would you get the Amazon smarthpone if it required to to subscribe to Prime? Would you invest $199 in it if it offered only mediocre specs?

Kindle Fire HD 2 Leaked Photos

It's been a while since the Kindle Fire HD came out and it seems that we are finally getting a new Amazon tablet. So far, the new tablet is labeled as the Kindle Fire HD 2, but this needn't be the official name of the device. In the past we had some interesting 'leaked' photos, but this is certainly one of the most authentic leaks I've seen. It seems unlikely that Amazon has made such a mistake in its security so it may be possible that this is a publicity trick to draw more attention and hype.Here's one of these Kindle Fire HD 2 leaked photos which shows a 7 inch tablet featuring a very stylish, elegant design.

This is probably the only BGR photo that looks like it wasn't edited, but other photographs we will show you in this post were edited to hide something. What is hidden by the black rectangles was not disclosed anywhere, but we can't imagine its anything we haven't seen before. After all, the Kindle Fire HD is best known for its ecosystem, great software and pretty powerful specs that don't quite fit the low price tag. The new HD 2 model will certainly be a major improvement compared to the previous one. Here's another photo:

So, what will the specs be like? We have nothing official to report, but it seem that the new Kindle Fire HD will be catching up to the Nexus 7. The expected resolution of the display is 1,920 by 1,200 which is a significant jump over the current device (1200 x 800). The source also claims that we can expect the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2 GHz to run under the hood. This is a very powerful CPU and its hard to believe that it will come for $199. Aside from this the source says we can expect 2GB of RAM, WiFi, and a 16/32/64 GB internal storage plan. The version of Android that Amazon will fork and customize is Android 4.2.2 which is certainly great news.

So to recap the rumor suggests the following changes:

Resolution will be 1920x1200, a change from 1200x800
Quad-core 2 GHz processor, up from dual-core 1.2 GHz
New 64GB internal memory model
2GB of RAM, up from 1 GB
Customized Android 4.2.2, an improvement from the 4.0 OS

So, how long will we wait before the new Kindle Fire HD 2 comes out? It is hard to say, but it might be a while. I am actually rather certain that it is worth grabbing the Kindle Fire HD 7" for the limited $159 price while you wait for the new one.

Kindle Fire HD Coming to India

Amazon has made its fame, glory and income in the USA, but like any constantly growing company it is always important to keep growing. New markets and ventures are always interesting to see, and Amazon will try to spread its business throughout India via the release of Kindle Fire HD tablets. Not long ago Amazon India was open for business at the web-location of Amazon.In but it currently there isn't a lot that Amazon has to offer. However, major changes don't happen overnight and Amazon will try to grow this new venture over the next years. One of the first steps for this is to bring affordable tablet devices and e-readers to their new clients and this is where the Kindle Fire HD comes in.

Their official press release states that they plan to offer their clients from India the Kindle Fire HD 7 and 8.9 inch device. The release date for the two tablets is June 27th and the two tablets will ship for 15,999 ($275) and 21,999 ($380) rupees with access to a reported 1.9 million-plus apps, games and books. While this does sound great and all, it is a rather standard offer and the price is a bit concerning. However, this is hardly Amazon's fault since, from what we understand, India has major taxes and tariffs on electronic devices. Nonetheless, it is great that the people in India are slowly getting access to all perks that Amazon can provide and hopefully their new business will grow.

Where can you get one o these devices in India aside from the official website? Well, Amazon will ship their tablets to local retail stores by the end of the month as well. Among these retailers the most famous names include Croma, Reliance Digital, E-Zone and Vijay Sales stores. Star Wars Episode 7 Plot Ideas

Star Wars Episode 7 will be created by Disney and will hit theaters in 2015. After that, Disney hopes to publish episode VIII in 2016 and episode XIX in 2017. One must wonder if Disney has started this project just for financial gain or if there is an actual motive to continue a great series. Either way so far things are going well and fans seem satisfied.

The storyline of the new movie is still unknown, but allow us to make some assumptions. First of all, we are expecting to see the Sith back in full force. Namely, the new movie will take place 20 to 40 years from where Episode VI left off. This means that the Lost Tribe of the Sith which is talked about it many books should make an appearance. What is this tribe?

Well, the name does suggest things rather accurately. This is a group of Sith warriors who have been lost for over 20,000 years on an unknown planet. They have enslaved the local population and create a civilization of their own. These Sith however lack technology and an army to actually return to known space, but this might change in Star Wars Episode VII. This is because the Sith masters will sense Luke Skywalker through the Force and seek to eradicate him and destroy the new Republic.

Now that the Republic is weak and the Jedi are still young, it is a perfect chance for the Sith to try and rule the galaxy once more. Of course, this is just a prediction, but it is based on valid facts as the Lost Tribe is mentioned many times in the expanding universe and their leaders will try to assassinate Luke Skywalker. Aside from this the expanded universe also suggests that some formal officers and admirals who served the Empire have survived the war and are looking for revenge.

There is a large pool of ideas already available thanks to the expanded universe and the producers will have to keep this in mind since their new movie shouldn't go against what is currently being written the expanded universe. This makes things rather difficult, but it also means that a lot of work has been done already and someone needs to glue all the pieces together.

Amazon buys Ivona, a text-to-speech software company

Ever head of Ivona? Neither have I, but this company really got Amazon's attention. The company has announced that it has acquired Ivona Software, which specialized in text-to-speech software. The company had already been working close with Amazon, providing text-to-speech, voice commands, and Explore by Touch features to the Kindle Fire.

What might this acquisition mean for Amazon? Well, it could mean that the company is looking to develop more advance voice recognition features for its lineup of Kindle devices. Perhaps they intend to offer up competition to Apple’s Siri and Google Now. The move also makes sense if Amazon enters the smartphone market as often rumored lately.

Regardless of where Amazon’s purchase of Ivona leads, it sure makes for interesting speculation.

Alcatel Tab7 HD vs Kindle Fire HD 7" - Early Review

Not a lot of people in the USA have heard of Alcatel as this a brand mostly popular in Europe and Asia. They aren't the type that produces the best quality you have ever seen, but some of their device are quite popular as they are inexpensive and provide solid specs and good quality. The Alcatel Tab7 HD (sometimes also called the Alcatel One Touch Tab7 HD) has been announced for 2013 and we are here to give an early review and comparison with the Kindle Fire HD 7". While this little Kindle Fire HD vs Alcatel Tab7 HD review will not be a fair battle since we haven't really seen the device in action yet, it should give all of you who are interested into these two models a good idea of which you should be saving your money for. The Display

Both devices have a similar display with the same resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Also, both of these tablets use a IPD TFT capacitive technology. This category would be a draw, however there are still two things to consider. The first is that the Kindle Fire HD has multi-touch and supports up to 10 fingers at once which does make it a winner in my book when it comes to the display itself. However, the second thing is that we are yet to see the quality of the Alcatel Tab 7 HD's display so let us not call anything yet.

The Hardware and the OS

This is obviously very important for any comparison, but trust me this will not be the deal breaker when it comes to the Alcatel Tab7 vs Kindle Fire HD. Benchmarks show that the Tab7 has a faster processor, but it doesn't really win by a lot even though its has 1.6 GHz clock speed compared to the Kindle's 1.2 GHz.

Both of these devices have 1 GB of RAM and as far as internal memory goes the KF has a small advantage. Namely, it sports a 16 and 32 GB model, while the Tab7 has 8 GB of internal memory. However, the Alcatel One Touch Tab 7 also has support for a microSD card. Amazon's tablet can only counter this with the free Amazon cloud storage that their users can get.

The Tab 7 does beat the Kindle Fire HD 7" when it comes to the camera since the Tab 7 features both a front (2MP) and rear VGA camera. The KF HD only has a rear 1.3 MP shooter.

In terms of the OS, both devices obviously run on Android and Alcatel will have Android Jelly Bean on their device. Amazon currently has a forked version of the Ice Cream Sandwich which works quite well on this device, especially with the latest bug fixes and updates that Amazon has released.

The Price

Now this is where we might get a deal breaker! The Kindle Fire HD normally costs around $199, but the Alcatel Tab7 is set to cost around $129 once the device is released. That a great price for the level of quality you will be getting! I have owned several inexpensive Alcatel products and I am impressed with the job that this company has done. When it comes to the tablets alone I would go for the Tab7 hand's down, but we both know it is not that easy. The fact is that we don't just buy the Kindle Fire for the tablet itself, we buy if, for better of for worse, because we use Amazon so much and love all the features that we get out of it.

The Kindle Fire HD 7" and the Nook HD are both very popular low-end tablets which means that they are affordable, yet have solid performance when compared to their bigger relatives in the tablet industry. But which one is right for you? We will not turn this Kindle Fire HD vs Nook HD review into a flaming battle that has to have a winner, but we will realistically state the pros and cons of both devices and help you make a choice of your own. However, the choice may fall down on another question - do you prefer using Amazon or Barnes & Noble? If you are quite indifferent about the two brands and just want to get your hands on the better tablet, then our task will be a lot easier!

The Nook HD vs the Kindle Fire HD

The Display

Let us start the comparison from the first thing that usually crosses our mind - the display screen. Both the Nook HD and the Kindle Fire HD 7" have a seven inch display screen and the same price. However, the Nook HD does offer a much higher resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels versus the Kindle HD's 1280 x 800 pixels. This means that the Nook HD has 243 pixels per inch which is better than its rival's 216 ppi. Although it does seem like a lot, there are still a lot of people who will barely notice the difference as Amazon has done other things to compensate and improve the visual quality that their tablet provides.

Storage Space

Another very important thing for the average user is how much storage space they will be getting for their money. Amazon's Kindle Fire HD is certainly a winner here as the $199 models offers 16 GB while you can pay $249 for a 32 GB model as well. On the other hand, Barnes & Noble's Nook HD offers 8 GB for the standard model, or you can pay $249 for a 16 GB version.

Processor Power

Tech fans are probably mostly interested in what these tablets offer under the hood, and the truth is that I believe that the Nook HD has a better kit running inside. This has been proven by many benchmarking websites who give the Nook HD more points over its rival. However, once again the difference is hard to spot for the average Joe. Why? the Kindle Fire HD sports a 1.2GHz dual-core TI Omap 4460 processor and dual-core PowerVR SGX540 graphics while its rival the Nook HD comes with a 1.3GHz dual-core TI Omap 4470 processor and dual-core PowerVR SGX544 graphics. Aside from a few higher number that the Nook has, most people don't really care about these specs and the truth is that the Nook doesn't score much higher than Amazon's best seven inch tablet.

The Camera

I never really liked it when people use cameras on their tablet nor do I think they are really necessary. Perhaps the folks at B&N agree with me since their seven inch tablet does not feature a camera. The Kindle Fire HD, however, features 1.3 megapixel web camera on the front which is only slightly better than that on a Google Nexus 7.

Battery Life

With this final comparison we will try to conclude our Kindle Fire HD vs Nook HD review. The tests show that the Kindle lasted for seven hours and 42 minutes while under the same circumstances he Nook HD was able to endure five hours and 25 minutes. I don't know how much you guys care about this, but I am often forced to travel and my lifestyle always has me going places. Knowing that I have a device with a reliable battery life is something that I truly enjoy!

So what else should you consider? Well, both of these are family tablets and you kids will love them. If you are someone who uses Amazon a lot, or you don't mind starting, then the Kindle Fire HD is the superior choice. It may not be a better table in all aspects, but Amazon provides you with far more media content which included movies, audio, games, books and much more!

Amazon Wins Court Case Against Apple (Almost!)

Ready for some more news from those "exciting" legal front-lines where companies fight over things that most of us view as unimportant? Fair enough, I understand that you do not share the excitement, but this news fits the theme of our little blog and just belongs here! So, the latest story this time is about Apple’s claim that Amazon’s use of the term “Appstore” actually constitutes false advertising. So, Kindle Fire HD fans, what do you say about that?!

This is actually an extra law suit which just ads onto Apple's previous claims that Amazon was guilty of stealing the name from Apple. They claim that this brand theft had caused them a lot of harm and that compensation is required to even out their loss. Apple's case was based that on the idea that the similarity of the names had fooled users into believing that the two stores were somehow related and that Apple's reputation was abused in this matter. However, the truth is that the claim is quite absurd as you would have to be quite uneducated to mix the two as they are available on totally different platforms and aside from the the name, the rest of the branding is very unique on both sides and there isn't a pixel of similarity in the designs. It is a good thing that Amazon really thrives at creating unique design and that there is no way to link their Kindle Fire HD with the iPad for another law suit!

Unlike the court cases where it seemed as though Samsung was punished for no reason, Amazon did not meet the same case. This is not a Korean company on foreign soil, but a full American retail giant which knows its rights! The court threw away the charges and stated that Apple had failed to show how Amazon was deceiving consumer and causing harm to Apple.

The judges states:

“The mere use of ‘Appstore’… cannot be construed as a representation that the nature, characteristics, or quality of the Amazon Appstore is the same as that of the Apple App Store.”

However, the law suit is not over yet as the court is yet to reach a verdict on whether or not Amazon has caused damage and stolen Apple's trademark with their Amazon Appstore name. If Amazon is found guilty then we can assume that they will be forced to change their branding and pay a fine to Apple, which is something we certainly don't want to see! On the other hand however, we are sure Amazon will have more than enough funds to take care of things as their Kindle Fire HD sales are booming great and Amazon was once again voted for the title of the bran with the best customer satisfaction (for an eight time!).

Amazon is a company that know how to create good stuff and make great deals for its potential buyers. This is why nobody is really surprised by the booming success that the company is having not just with the Kindle Fire HD, but with their products as well. A couple of days ago a Forbes author and analyst McCue wrote that the Kindle Fire HD is on fire, from a sales perspective, and that the retail giant Amazon was rated number one for its customer service. ForeSee reports that Amazon was able to successfully sell over 26.5 million items in a single peak day which certainly has to be some sort of record! The holidays have come and gone and Amazon has emerged victories for the eight time when it comes to customer satisfaction! Their customer service, secure web servers and brilliant delivery are top notch and it is really no wonder why the general public and business owners love Amazon, and thus the Kindle Fire HD has big shoes to fill and a reputation to keep! And it has kept its reputation quite well so far.

My little rant

The Kindle Fire HD is no longer observed by tech fans as an Amazon consumer device, but a fully-functional and extremely well-made mobile tablet device. I find it sad that a lot of people still look down on the KF HD with argumentation that it forked version of Android OS "sucks" or with a negative connotation that Apple is the only company that provides quality products and the rest is "trash". Well you know what? A lot of people like me will tell you that we enjoy the capabilities of Amazon's forked Android OS and that this device is well-build and very elegant. Owning an iPad will not buy snobs class nor does it make you a better person. If you wish to own an iPad because of its impressive specs and features then it is a good choice that you have made. But, if you are someone who thinks that these devices will buy you love, respect and admiration of your peers, then I feel sorry for you and I don't really know what you are doing on this blog in the first place.

Not long ago we discussed a report from Amazon chief Jeff Bezos who revealed that company is making little profit from just selling the Paperwhite and Fire HD and earn their keep from the content and items the users actually buy from their tablets. The new Kindle love will be spreading across the world as the release of the new kindle line-up is bound for the UK within the next few weeks.

As far as Amazon's plans go, the Kindle Fire HD tablet and Kindle Paperwhite e-readers are bound to get to the European market, including the UK, on the 25th of October. The preorders on branches such as amazon.co.uk. As you know the device has been on sale in the USA for quite some time now and while we have no official reports we do know that Amazon is quite satisfied with the results they have been getting so far. Right now we are waiting for the device to come to the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and France in time for the holiday season and knowing Amazon they will certainly meet their deadline.

But there is more good news for the European Kindle fans! According to what the Amazon CEO is saying, the company plans to roll out its Lending Library in the chosen countries listed above which means that at long last European Amazon Prime subscribers will get the ability to borrow from a collection of 200,000 books for free.

Kindle Fire represents more affordable tablet, while iPad dominates the high end spectrum of the tablet market. Even though there has been no official announcement, there is a wide belief that iPad Mini will be announced during October. Comparing the rumored iPad Mini specs with Kindle Fire HD’s specs, we will try to answer the question : “Which device is better : Kindle Fire HD (which runs Android OS) or iPad (which is supposed to run iOS 6).”

Display, Connectivity and Prices

The Kindle Fire HD is shipped in two variants : 7-inch variant (for $199) and 8.9-inch variant (for $299). 8.9-inch 4G LTE variant is also available, for $499. All variants come with 16 GB of internal storage and support dual-band Wi-Fi. The 7-inch Fire HD has a 1200 x 800 resolution, which can record 720p videos and 8.9-inch version has 1900 x 1200 resolution, which can record 1080p videos. iPad Mini is believed to be a 7.85-inch device with 1024 x 768 resolution. It is also believed to support 4G LTE connectivity and Wi-Fi. Its expected price is $249-$299.

Processor Power

7-inch Kindle Fire HD is powered with a 1.2 GHz dual-core CPU, 8.9-inch Fire HD is powered with a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU. Since it is still unknown if A6 chip will power iPad Mini, we can’t make a fair judgment on this field.

Apple vs Amazon Appstore

Kindle Fire HD has a very closed ecosystem – you can download apps only from Amazon’s Appstore, and there you can find 50,000 apps for Kindle Fire HD. Even though the device itself is pretty cheap, it is Amazon’s tactic to make money on other products. iPad Mini, on the other side, would have 225,000 specifically designed apps for iPad, and 600.000 apps on the App Store, and it could run all of them.

Kindle Fire HD beats the rumored iPad Mini feature-to-feature, but both tablets have their bad and good sides. Amazon doesn't plan on making money by selling the device itself, they plan on making money from the content they sell through their online store. Money is made off services and accessories, which come with the products. “We sell the hardware at our cost, so it is break-even on the hardware”, said Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos, referring to Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Paperwhite. Kindle Fire HD tablet and Kindle Paperwhite eReader will be launched in Europe on October 25.

Amazon has been making money off digital content and not from the devices for quite a while now and they believe that this tactic works perfectly well for them . Kindle users in the UK, Germany and France will be able to access the Kindle Owners Leaning Library. This allows them to borrow up a certain book from a great selection of titles. Amazon’s Kindle family has got another member – Kindle Paperwhite. This device continues the tradition of Amazon’s great Kindle devices. The device comes in two versions : the version with only Wi-Fi ($119) and the 3G-equipped version ($179). The Kindle Paperwhite can safely be called the world's most advanced eReader and Amazon has taken the liberty of doing just that! Let us see what makes this device to s special, shall we?

From a design standpoint, Kindle Paperwhite doesn’t differ a lot from predecessors. Compared to Kindle Touch, it is thinner and its display is less sunken into the plastic surrounding. The device is pretty comfortable in hand - its weight is 0.47 pounds and it has the size of an average book. It only comes in black color. It does not have headphone jack and does not provide any audio out. Also, you don’t get an adapter for charging with it, so you have to buy one, use one that you already own or charge it by plugging it into your PC.

From a display standpoint, it has the E Ink, 6-inch screen. The entire display is front lit with a blue light. It also has higher resolution than previous models, and therefore images and text are clearer. Pixel density is 212 ppi.

Kindle Paperwhite has got a new OS which is much different than OS on past devices. When Paperwhite is woken, you have to swipe across the display to resume your session. Display contains your recently read items, recommended items beneath them and general menu on the top of the display. You can move between pages with swipes and taps, or highlight sections with long presses. There is also X-ray functionality, web and Wikipedia search and translation in many languages. And, fortunately, it has a great non-removable battery, which can last a week without charging, even if it is used a lot.

As for other specifications - it has a Micro USB port and it supports Wi-Fi. Internal storage is 2 GB, without possibility of expanding it. It supports PDF and DOC files. All in all, Paperwhite is one of the best readers out there, maybe even the best one. The greatest advantage it has is Amazon’s ecosystem – the vast library. It rarely happens that you don’t find the book that you are searching for there.

So what is Amazon Game Circle? Well, in a nutshell it is basically a developer toolset and it is one of those nifty packages and APIs that allows the developers to add in global achievement tracking, leaderboards, game sync and, of course, social networking.

There is a change in the Kindle App Store navigation since the New games category is now what is listed on the first page and a default category. Since gaming is a popular activity Amazon has taken a lot of effort to make both the hardware and the software of the Kindle Fire HD better optimized for this type of entertainment. Much of this is due to the new processor unit and the Imagination PowerVR 3D graphics core as well as the awesome screen.

Kindle Fire HD 8.9" vs the iPad 3

So far we talked about the Kindle Fire HD 7 inch tablet and compared against several competitors that threatened to take over Amazon's lead in the low-end tablet sector. There articles were about the Kindle Fire HD vs Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire HD vs Kobo Arc. Today, however, we are going to compare the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" with the "king of tablets" - the Apple iPad 3.

Ready for the Kindle Fire HD vs iPad 3 showdown? Let us get started!

So, once you compare the specs of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" against the iPad 3, a few conclusion and opinions pop up and one of those to me was: is the Apple rxperience really worth the extra cash? In my opinion and my own analysis the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is superior to the outdated iPad 3. And to prove my point let me state the following:

Kindle Fire HD has better design features and provides a better physical experience seeing as it is thinner, lighter, and smaller than Apple's iPad 3.
The KF HD sports dual stereo speakers. And not just any ol' speakers, they come with Dolby Digital Plus. And the iPad? Meh, just mono speakers...
Then we have the iPad which can do 22Mbps 802.11n WiFi, and then we go back to the the Fire HD which features MIMO antenna that can do 31Mbps.

Oh but I am just getting started! But I will skip to the point the Kindle Fire HD with its 8.9 inch screen, 16 GB of storage and its 1920×1200 (254 PPI) Retina-equivalent screen is actually a full 200 dollars cheaper than the 16 GB Apple iPad 3. I think that a lot of people will find this a very interesting point and not just me! The most intriguing thing about the price however is that a receant study showed that both of these devices cost around $300 to produce and transport. So why is the Apple iPad 3 so much more expensive when it is clearly not the better tablet?

Well it does have everything to do with their policies and the way they plan to make money - Apple sells expensive, luxury products, while Amazon provides us with affordable, quality products with hopes to make up for the lost money via our purchases in the Amazon stores. A fair trade I would say. Alright, but let me continue with the comparison.

The truth is that the Apple iPad 3 is better in some aspects, but for me these just aren't worth the extra money and the Amazon ecosystem is far better than that of the iPad 3. For example, the iPad 3 has a clearly better camera and the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" cannot even film video, unlike the iPad 3. You can still of course use the KF HD 8.9" for Skype and what not. But who uses a tablet as a camera anyway? The iPad 3 also has a superior battery life by two hours and of course a screen that is 0.8 inches bigger.

When it comes to pricing Amazon has a far better offer and here is why:

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" with 16 GB of storage costs $299 while the iPad 3 with 16 GB of storage costs $499. You save $200 with the HD!
The same Kindle Fire HD 8.9" but with 32 GB of storage and 4G LTE features costs $499 while the iPad 3 with 32 GB and LTE features costs $729. You save $230!
The KF HD 8.9" data plan will cost you $50 per year while the data plan for the iPad 3 costs $200 per year. You save $150 per year with the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 inch tablet!

Oh, but then come the argument that the iPad 3 is faster, has more apps, has a better OS and the like. What do I have to say about this? Alright, those are valid arguments...but...

Well for one thing the iPad 3 isn't exactly faster as it comes with a 1 GHz dual-core A5X processor while the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 inch tablet runs on a 1.5 GHz dual-core OMAP4470. Some have said that the iPad 3 still performs better when it comes to graphics but the Imagination PowerVR 3D graphics core on the Kindle Fire HD serves to fill this gap.

And what about the apps? Alright, you got me, the iPad 3 has access to a lot more apps. But on the other hand doesn't the fact that the Kindle Fire HD provides access to a lot of books, videos and mp3 count for something as well? The addition of Amazon Game Circle also seems to me like there is a bright future for Amazon when it comes to apps so I wouldn't be dissing the Kindle Fire HD just yet!

And OS? The iPad 3 will soon be getting an update to its iOS while the KF HD sports a forked version of Android OS. Between the iOS and Android I would always go for Android, but I dislike the version that Amazon has created on its tablets. I do give the upper hand to the iOS on this one, but I doubt a lot of people care so much.

Kindle Fire HD VS Kobo Arc

So let me guess, you are thinking something in the lines of this: While the Kindle Fire HD is selling like a wildfire this guy is writing about some Kobo Arc? What's the Kobo Arc anyway?!

Indeed, what is the Kobo Arc and what sort of impact could it possibly have on the tablet ecosystem and why would I be comparing it to the Kindle Fire HD? Well, for one reason it is because I love variate and like it when I have different choices that I can make. The Kobo Arc is certainly an improvement to the previous Kobo Vox and is a product from a Canadian-based company that is in the digital books market. The previous Amazon Kindle Fire would perhaps have a hard time dealing with this new Kobo Arc, but I think that, at least right off the bat, the Kindle Fire HD may not be a better choice. But let us look at what the Arc has to offer and why the KF HD is or isn't superior.

So the start off, let us note that both the Kindle Fire HD and the Kobo Arc are a 7 inch tablet with a similar purpose and price range. Therefor this is a battle of quality but also of the features as both devices are meant for users to get the most out of the available content and of the content that they plan on purchasing. Keeping this in mind I am more interested in which tablet has a better display, content ecosystem and better multimedia support.

Right off the bat people will go on about the Kobo Arc having a superior 1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4470 processor while the Kindle Fire HD (7 inch model) sports a smaller 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. While an important feature, I wouldn't call it a major advantage as I often work on devices that have an even weaker processor yet they perform their task very well. Sure, if I were buying a laptop or a PC I would spend a lot of time thinking this part over, but between the two I find the difference of less importance than some other features that these tablets are supposed to have.

In terms of memory you already know by now that the Kindle Fire HD 7 inch tablet costs $199 and offers 16 GB of storage room, while a 32 GB model costs $249. The Kobo Arc positions itself like the Nexus 7 and offers a 8 GB model for the price of $199 and a 16 GB model for the price of $249. This wouldn't matter much if the Kobo Arc had SD Card support, but since it doesn't, this is an issue for me. There is certainly some cloud storage alternatives and such, but I would feel more comfortable with a 16 GB Kindle Fire HD + an Amazon cloud than with whatever the Kobo Arc has to offer.

This is of course talking storage wise, but there still a lot of major features to look into. So let me continue.

The Kobo Arc

Both devices use a forked version of the Android OS, more accurately of the Ice Cream Sandwich. The idea is to promote their own content and create a closed ecosystem in which you will be spending your hard-earned dollars. What I like about the Kobo Arc though is that it is more user-oriented and doesn't just try to push ads from its store. There a few cool features such as the ability to pin the things you like and get RSS updates from you favorite sites on your home screen. Another important thing to note is that the Kobo Arc also has Google Play installed which means you will get access to all those amazing apps! Now I sound like I am a fan of the device don't I?

The thing is that I do not like forked versions of any OS and I am not such a big fan of what Amazon does. Yet I love their store as it has a lot more content than any other. What I did on the first Kindle Fire generation of tablets is that I rooted it and put Google Play right on there - that was the best of both worlds! And of course there are other sites where one can find all those awesome apps and games.

So if you are a bit tech savvy or willing to learn some tricks there is no reason to think that the Kindle Fire HD is a handicapped device because it doesn't use Google Play. This is just silly. This is isn't the iOS, you can actually play around with your device a lot if you know how.

So my verdict on the Kindle Fire HD vs the Kobo Arc battle of the tablets? The Amazon tablet wins it from me as I think I am going to be able to use it to its full power and I cannot wait to see what this double-band WiFi antenna can do.

And while the Kobo Arc is a good tablet, I would rather buy a Google Nexus 7 over it for the price as Kobo just doesn't suit my needs with its content. What do you think?

Kindle Fire HD 7 inch vs Nexus 7 + hands-on vide of the KF HD

Are you excited about the new Kindle Fire HD tablet Amazon introduced recently? Between you and me I find it that the 8.9 inch model of the Kindle Fire HD just isn't worth the money, but the 7 inch $199 might just be better than we originally thought. While its processor does not measure with the Google Nexus 7 and the device does lack that powerful full Android OS, it is still a formidable tablet at a very low cost that will certainly be skyrocketing in its sales this year.

Bellow is the video of a very short hands-on view of the Kindle Fire HD 7" model that was done by Liam Spradlin of AndroidPolice.com, a respected Android news blog and portal. In his written review he claims that the Kindle Fire HD felt great in his hands and made a fine impression. The device felt like it was premium quality which isn't something other tablets in this price range have. But apart from the comfortable, luxury design and feeling, was the Kindle Fire HD any good? Let us find out how it compares to the Google Nexus 7 and which of the two is the better choice!

In terms of its design and display quality the review thinks that this device is better than the Nexus 7. The reason behind it is that the Kindle Fire HD seemed more professional, was made out of better material and has a significantly better display, especially when it comes to glare and color depth. Still, both devices have a good display that most users won't be able to tell apart and design is always a subjective issue, so this doesn't tell us much other than Liam's personal opinion.

However, the real twister here is that Amazon has stated that its 7 inch tablet has a battery life of 11 hours, which if true is one major thing to consider when buying a tablet in this price range as no other $199 tablet can really put up that type of performance. In terms of storage space, the Kindle Fire HD comes as either a 16 GB ($199) or a 32 GB ($249) model while the Nexus 7 has a 8GB model for $199 and a 16 GB model for $249. While this isn't exactly a revolutionary thing to consider in this comparison, you have to give the Kindle Fire HD the recognition for this at least.

Another thing to give the Kindle Fire HD 7 inch tablet the upper hand over the Nexus 7 is the dual band WiFi antenna which is far superior to the Nexus 7. If we used a bad hotspot connection to compare the two there is no doubt that Amazon's tablet would be far better. The Fire HD also has dual speakers which put the Nexus 7 to shame and it is apparent that the KF HD is the better tablet for watching rich video content or playing games.

On the other hand you have to give the Nexus 7 and its quad-core Tegra 3 processor the upper hand since Amazon's Kindle Fire HD 7 inch tablet has a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor which certainly isn't the best one out there.

In terms of software you will also hear people praise the Nexus 7 as it gets a constant stream of Android updates directly when they come out. The Kindle Fire HD runs a forked version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Looking at all the features being offered it seems that the Nexus 7 is a more serious tablet when it comes to modification and is more targeted to the tech savvy, while the Kindle Fire HD tries to be fun and be available for all ages. It even has parent control which you can use to limit your child the amount of the time he or she spends playing games and such.

There are a lot more things to cover in the debate of the Kindle Fire HD vs the Nexus 7, but let us just stop while we are here. Why? Well, it just seems a bit pointless now. You see, Amazon didn't make a tablet that sells good hardware specs or a smooth open source Android OS. They made a tablet for those who use Amazon so they can use it even more and in a better and more fun way. The Nexus 7 is really about spreading the good word about Android and is more of an all-around tablet.

The question of which you should buy seems to have little to do with the tablets themselves but more with your own personal taste and needs. If you have a need for the Kindle Fire HD, then you will no doubt recognize that need right away and buy the tablet. It is as simple as that.

The long wait for what we called the "Kindle Fire 2" is over as Amazon has released three Kindle Fire HD tablets along with two Readers - the Kindle Paperwhite and a 3G version of the same name. Amazon claims that the Kindle Fire HD is not only the best tablet for its price but the best tablet overall. This is rather big claim and surely Amazon's new device should have the performances to confirm it.

The first in the series of the new kindle tablet is the Kindle HD which is a 7 inch tablet with a price of $199 for a 16 GB model. Remember that its competitor the Google Nexus 7 costs $249 for a 16 GB version. There is also a 32 GB model of the Kindle Fire HD 7" and it costs exactly $249 as we predicted in previous posts. Kindle Fire 2 leaks and rumors update! Is there an Ad-bases Kindle Fire 2 in the making?

As you recall we mentioned that Amazon is holding a special Amazon press conference on September the 6th and everybody is hoping that we will be seeing the new Kindle Fire 2 getting presented for the first time. Other than that Amazon might show off couple of other affordable eReaders which are said to arrive this September or early October. So what has changed since this report? Are there any new leads on the issue at hand and have we finally learned something more about the Kindle Fire 2?

Unfortunately the official answer would be no, but there have been a number of credible reports from sites such as CNET and The Verge which shed some light on what the Kindle Fire 2 might be like. First of all here is an image posted by The Verge which might be the new Kindle Fire 2, however, it might be just one of the others tablets and eReaders that Amazon is making. The Verge states that this is a 100% authentic photo leak from Amazon and that it is just not known what device it is, although everyone is speculating it is the Kindle Fire 2. Here is the image:

A Cheaper Kindle Fire 2 with Ads?

Rumors are also saying that we can expect a Kindle Fire 2 device with enabled ads to be listed for sale. This type of device would be around $50 cheaper than a none-ads version and it wouldn't be the first of its kind for Amazon. Some of Amazon's eReaders sold like crazy thanks to this method and you can be sure that Amazon made a lot of money from the purchases those ads generated.

But how much will the original Kindle Fire 2 cost without those ads? Some are saying it will take the first generation's place and go on sale for $199 while others are saying that $249 is a more reasonable price if the device plans to feature a quad-core processor and a camera. Rumors of course are different from article to article but it seem that most are now agreeing that there will be no 10 inch Kindle Fire 2 tablet device. However, there will probably be a 7 inch low-end model and a 8.9 inch higher-end model.

September the sixth is just around the corner so let us wait until then to see what Amazon has to show us!
