Wee Three Kings Preschool, a ministry of Epiphany United Methodist Church in Loveland, 6635 Loveland-Miamiville Road, has openings for our 3 year old afternoon and 18-36 month Parent’s Day Out classes. Parent’s Day Out classes meet from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Mon.-Thurs. Parents may choose one or two days a week. The City of Loveland is pleased to announce the addition of Corey Schmidt to the City of Loveland staff. Mr. Schmidt was recently selected to fill the position of Management Fellow to the City Manager’s Office. He obtained his Master of Public Affairs from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University in May.

Mr. Schmidt applied for and was admitted into the International City/County Management Association’s prestigious and highly competitive Local Government Management Fellowship program. He was selected from a national pool of highly qualified applicants to come and work for the City of Loveland for a twelve-month fellowship.

Forty-two local governments have hosted fellows since the program’s inception in 2004. In 2006, Loveland became the first City in the State of Ohio to host a Management Fellow. Both the 2006 and 2010 fellows have been made possible by staffing vacancies in the City Manager’s Office.

As Management Fellow, Mr. Schmidt will be exposed to all aspects of city government and will work on a variety of projects including the 2013 Budget, the City’s Wellness Program, performance measurement, the City’s e-newsletter and website, and financial policies. Throughout the upcoming year, Mr. Schmidt will gain cutting-edge training and the opportunity to develop as a local government professional.

In addition to his master’s degree from Indiana University, Mr. Schmidt holds a bachelor’s degree from Oakland University. He brings with him work experience in local government from the City of Linden, Michigan; the City of Fenton, Michigan; and the City of Maryland Heights, Missouri.

The Loveland Police Division is partnering with the Ohio Department of Public Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to encourage motorists to buckle up. Seat belts are the single most effective piece of safety equipment in a vehicle, yet the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration observational studies show that nearly one out of five Americans still fail to wear a seat belt when driving or riding in a motor vehicle.

Increased law enforcement activity will be conducted during the 2012 Click It or Ticket mobilization period from May 21 – June 3. “Seat belts clearly save lives. Unfortunately, too many motorists still fail to wear their seat belt, so we are going to be actively encouraging seat belt use. Officers will be enforcing seat belt laws and issuing citations for those not buckled up” said Loveland Police Chief Tim Sabransky. According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, in 2010 State of Ohio residents used a seat belt 83 percent of the time. Our goal for 2012 is to increase that percentage to 88 percent.

The City of Loveland is pleased to announce the hiring of Harry Holbert as the City’s Property Maintenance Code Enforcement Official.

Mr. Holbert will work part-time for the City of Loveland in 2012 as a contracted official, enforcing the City’s property maintenance code for residential and commercial properties throughout the community. The City enforces a property maintenance code in order to maintain a safe, healthy and attractive community.

Loveland residents and property owners are encouraged to report property maintenance violations to Mr. Holbert by using the property maintenance service request action line link located on the City’s website at www.lovelandoh.com, or by calling him at 774-3043.

We were so disappointed to find out the City of Loveland had to drop the concert series. The budget finally got too tight to hold onto the series, so we at AllAroundLoveland.com decided someone needed to step up and do something. That someone was us. We know how much the residents and business owners enjoy having city events, so we set out to try to make it possible for these types of events to continue to flourish. We spent hours on the phone with city officials like Misty Cheshire and Michelle Knowland and even sat down with city manager Tom Carroll. We were so excited by their passion and their expertise. They were so helpful at every stage. We have even been able to secure the city sponsorship without costing the city any new dollars, which is something we worked hard to do.

Hometown Loveland, Inc. has been created to have a place where businesses can donate funds to support the Concert Series and other projects we are pursuing in the future. We believe the city needs family friendly events that continue to offer a cultural perspective and create a safe environment. The concerts are scheduled for June 3, 10, July 15, 29 and August 12, 26, all Sunday afternoons. The concerts will offer two bands each, and run from 5:30-8:30 each week at Nisbet Park Amphitheater in downtown Loveland. We are trying to create an event that families can come and enjoy together. In doing that, we are speaking with restaurants about creating a picnic-like dinner and will offer a few non-profits the opportunity to provide food onsite. We will also provide games for the families.

We have already had some businesses offer sponsorships and we are almost capable of accepting them. We should be ready by the week of May 14. It’s been a lot of planning, but it’s been worth it. We will be approaching a lot of businesses this week and have tried to offer sponsorship levels that allow even small businesses or residents can meet. We are trying for 501c3 status for Hometown Loveland, Inc. to make it even easier to attract support.

We arrived in Loveland in 2009 and one of the first things we noticed was the damaged Stage Company. As we got to know the people of Loveland it became quite clear there was a love of the actors and the institution. There was a collective ache in the heart of Loveland.

We saw the community come alive when the repairs were completed. The show must go on they say. There were a lot of very excited patrons and actors as the community attempted to step back into the theater and continue a great tradition. And continue they did. The fire occurred on October 20, 2008 and even though they continued productions in area facilities, the return of their home theater was something they tirelessly worked for. In November 2009, barely a year after the fire, the company opened Miss Saigon in their newly rebuilt theater. We did not attend that show, but we understand it was magnificent.

That brings up an interesting point. We attended our first production at Loveland Stage Company (“The Producers”) and were given the chance to take some photos at the dress rehearsal. We had such a great time, the actors were confident, well spoken and sang very well. The dancers did a great job. Even the stage crew was well organized and did a very good job lighting the different scenes. We are including some of the shots below. Unfortunately, we waited so long to see a production in our wonderful town theater.

We wondered if perhaps others in the community were not aware of the talent we have here in Loveland. We wanted to make sure our readers knew about the next show coming up very soon. The Fantastiks is opening May 11th and you might want to get your tickets now. I understand the shows frequently sell out and tickets are hard to come by. Make sure you get yours now! If The Fantastiks isn’t your cup of tea, The Loveland Stage Company does 2-3 different shows every season so keep your eyes and ears open!

On January 25, 2012, my fiancé, Todd Jones, passed away at the age of 51. Todd loved his Loveland roots. He was also known and loved by many from Loveland.

Todd’s nephew and best bud, Lucas Andersson, is 14 years old and is on the Autism spectrum. On Sunday, June 3, 2012, Mama Vita’s Restaurant will host the 1st Annual Todd Jones Memorial Golf Outing for Autism at the Hickory Woods Golf Course in Loveland, OH. Cost is $80.00/golfer. Wump Mucket Puppets have nine fun filled puppet shows for children and their families to enjoy together this summer.

Created and performed by puppeteer Terrence Burke, the Wump Mucket Puppets’ show is presented in a variety show format with a cast of hand made puppet characters inspired by mysterious creatures including a sea serpent named Cyril, a sasquatch called Coleman, and a strange space alien known as G’Wazzl.

The fast-paced production runs 30 minutes and includes original songs, jokes, silly skits and live audience interaction. The puppet show is family friendly and appropriate for all ages.
