Tips for Business Promotion with Your Blog

1. Use search engine friendly URL's.  Make sure that the URL to each page reflects the title of the post or page.
2. Use keywords and keyword phrases in your titles and body of your articles, posts and pages.
3. Use a Ping service so that each time you make a post the directories are notified and the spiders and readers will find it.  Wordpress has a ping service automatically set up.
4. If you have more than one blog be sure that they link back and forth together.
5. Leave comments on others blogs with a link back to your blog.
6. Submit your URL and RSS feeds to URL and RSS directories
7. Submit articles to article marketing sites with links back to your site
8. Above 3 through 6 are techniques to get back links (links from other sites back to your site) to increase traffic.

All of these tips are designed to increase the traffic to your site with little or no cost.  Without traffic the best blog is useless.  Promotion requires readers (traffic).

We all know about SEO techniques.  But do we have a plan?  Here is a simple SEO plan.

SEO Plan

1. Start with keyword research.  Find at least 20 good keywords that you can rank for.
2. Use a primary and two secondary keywords in each post or page.
3. Use the primary keyword in the title of the page or post.
4. Be sure the primary keyword is in the URL to that page or post.
5. Use the primary keyword in the body of the content.
6. Also use the secondary keywords in the content.
7. Be sure the content is readable by your visitors.  Valuable, unique, readable and useful content is very important to produce.
8. Market your content by obtaining back links (article marketing, directory submission, comment of other blogs in your niche, etc).
9. Market your content on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
10. Market your content on social bookmarking sites such as Digg and Delicious.

Results

Your website SEO results are not guaranteed but this plan, if implemented, will go a long way toward good search engine ranking for your page or post.  Just remember that website  SEO is a never ending process.  Keep at it.

There are some basic techniques you should use.  I am going to go over my list of 10 basic techniques.

10 Basic SEO Techniques:

1. Your domain name should include your keywords.  But just as important is that it is easy to remember and spell.  That is probably more important in the long run than including the keywords.
2. Your domain extension is preferably .com.  Not because .com is important to the search engines but because most people will default to the .com extension.  So it is easier to remember.
3. Keyword driven unique and quality content.  Content is king!  Never forget this.  So create unique and high quality content for your readers.  And be sure this content is keyword driven.
4. Work hard to create a great title for your content that includes your keyword(s).  This is extremely important.
5. Us the H tags such as H1, H2 and H3.  Helps with readability and with the search engines.
6. Add your domain name to directories especially those with high page ranking.  This will produce back links.
7. Exchange links with quality (authority) high page rank sites.  Again this will produce back links.
8. Create site map and robots.txt files.  And don't forget to create a site map for your readers.
9. Be sure your URLs to your content are descriptive and have the keywords in it.
10. Social bookmark your content.  This is for back links and traffic.

These are some of the basic SEO techniques we should all use.

What is Linkbait?

Linkbaiting is an SEO technique where you put some content (images, infographics, content, audio, video) out on the Internet that creates a buzz.  And this buzz leads to a lot of back links to your site.  This is one of the best techniques for generating back links.

Linkbait is anything that will start a buzz and get lots of people visiting and linking to your site.

What do you create?

You can create a controversial blog post or page, a simple video that catches the readers imagination (think of Google's super bowl ad), or an eye appealing graphic with information on it that people enjoy.  Anything that will cause a buzz.

If your item creates a buzz you will be rewarded with a lot of traffic and back links.

Step 1 – Domain Name

Start with a domain name.  This name should include your primary search term if possible.  You are also using this domain name for branding so also include your brand name if possible.  So take the time necessary to get a great domain name.  I recommend using Expert SRS as you domain registrar.

Step 2 – Web Hosting

You website needs a host to house your website.  Your hosting account should be reliable, with good support and a c-panel for ease of use.  There are hundreds of good web hosting companies out there.  Do your research before choosing one.  I recommend using Host Gator for your web hosting.

Step 3 – Web Site

You need a website that will allow you to easily create content.  Today one of the most popular types of websites is a wordpress blog.  I highly recommend you use a wordpress blog.  In the c-panel you can create a wordpress blog in about 2 minutes.  After it is created you are all set to add content, squeeze page and sales page.

Step 4 – Squeeze Page

A squeeze page is used to capture names and email addresses.  You need to give the reader a good reason to sign up but once they are signed up, you can email freely.  To capture these names and emails you need a squeeze page and an autoresponder account.  The autoresponder I recommend is Aweber.  It has excellent video tutorials and support.

Step 5 – Sales Page

If you are selling a product you will need to make a sales page.  The purpose of this page is to point out how your product will reduce/eliminate a problem the reader has.  Remember to point out the benefits of your product.

Step 6 – Traffic

Now that your web site is up and running, you have a squeeze page and a sales page and you have developed content, your next step is to drive traffic to your site.  Driving traffic is the job of SEO.  There are many techniques you can use to drive traffic.  However some of the easier and better ones are article marketing, commenting on other blogs and forums in your niche and submitting your blog to the directory sites.

Finally

This is where you start but it is an ever growing process.  Don't think that because you have the best product and a web site that you will make sales.  You need traffic and buyers.  This takes time to develop.  Don't loose hope in this process, keep learning and working on your site.

There are many ways to create back links.  The methods range from article marketing to directory submission.  But how do you know which are the best ones for your site?

Best Back Links

There are three parts of a back link that are important.

• The anchor text used.  It should include your keyword or keyword phrase.
• It should come from a trusted site.  Authority sites are the best sites to get back links from.  They will have a high page ranking.
• Relevancy of the site to your site is important.  Ideally the back link comes from an authority site in your niche with an anchor text of your keyword.

Back links are very important to your ranking in the search engines.  So try hard to get back links that fit these three criteria.

There are many ways to manage your online reputation.  I like to use the CPR method.

Create

First you must create a reputation.  This takes time and a fair amount of effort.  But once it is created you must protect it.

Protect

How do you protect it?  First you must find out what is being said about you online.  So to protect your reputation you must be able to find all the negative comments about your reputation.  Then you must respond to any negative comments.

Respond

In an ideal world you would never need to respond to negative comments.  That's because in an ideal world there would not be any negative comments.  Well back here in reality there are negative comments.  Remember you cannot please everyone but you do have the ability to respond to negative comments.  And the purpose of the response is to set the record straight with facts.
