Wikileaks to release new Iraq files 'seven times bigger than the first'

Wikileaks has announced it will release a third set of war logs which will be seven times bigger than the last batch.

In a defiant posting on its official Twitter account, the website’s founders said it was ‘under intense pressure’ over the disclosure but vowed to press ahead anyway.

‘The coming months will see a new world, where global history is redefined. Keep us strong,’ they added.

It is not yet clear what the new logs would cover but such a vast information dump would create another firestorm in Britain and the U.S.

Generals on both sides of the Atlantic are still furious over the last set of 400,000 classified documents which covered the war in Iraq, the biggest military leak of all time.

The new leak is expected to total as many as three million documents.They detailed what Wikileaks founder Julian Assange called 'compelling evidence of war crimes' by the U.S. led coalition and the Iraq government and sparked calls for a full inquiry.

A far larger set of war logs could contain even more damaging revelations about similar crimes, or throw up entirely new incidents involving coalition troops.

They also raise the possibility of individual officers being named as perpetrators of ‘war crimes’ and special forces agents in the field having their identities revealed.

On Wikileaks’ Twitter page, its founders posted a rallying call to its supports and vowed to press on with publication.

‘Next release is 7x the size of the Iraq War Logs. intense pressure over it for months. Keep us strong,’ it said.

Should Wikileaks go ahead with its promise, it will be the third time it has published such information in the face of opposition from military top brass around the world.

The first batch was about the war in Afghanistan and gave a grim picture of the day-to-day struggle against the Taliban and the frustrations of trying to train the Afghan police.

The second covered the period in the occupation of Iraq between 2004 and 2009 and contained revelations that America failed to investigate hundreds of reports of abuse, rape, torture and murder by Iraqi police and soldiers.

The information also revealed that more than 15,000 civilians died in previously unknown incidents - U.S. and UK officials have insisted that no official record of civilian casualties exists but the logs record 66,081 non-combatant deaths out of a total of 109,000 fatalities.

In addition, the logs claim that in one incident a British rifleman shot dead an eight-year-old Iraqi girl as she played in the streets.

The information will almost certainly have come from the Bradley Manning, the dissident U.S. army intelligence analyst who earlier this year is alleged to have leaked the first tranche, some 90,000 logs chronicling bloody encounters and civilian killings in Afghanistan.

Adding to the controversy is the international arrest warrant which has been issued for Mr Assange by Swedish prosecutors over allegations of rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion.

The allegations, which the 39-year-old Australian has repeatedly denied, relate to two women he met while on a visit to Sweden in August.

Assange’s London lawyer Mark Stephens, has said the claims were 'false and without basis’.

A Pill To Block Out The Bad Memories

There are some things everyone would rather forget – and scientists believe they may be able to help us do just that, with a pill that would block out painful memories.

In a medical breakthrough, researchers have discovered that proteins can be removed from the brain’s fear centre to wipe out traumatic memories.

Their findings could be of benefit to soldiers who have experienced distressing events and victims of violence. They could even help us get over the hurt of a painful break-up.

The U.S. research has parallels to the plot of the science fiction film Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, which starred Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey.

In the 2004 film, a couple’s past is wiped in a fictional procedure called ‘targeted
memory erasure’. For the U.S. study, scientists at Johns Hopkins University used rats to try to focus on the part of the brain that copes with fear.

They discovered a ‘window of vulnerability’ when unique receptor proteins are created in the brain as painful memories are made.

Because the proteins are unstable, they could be removed with drugs to eliminate the memory forever.

‘When a traumatic event occurs, it creates a fearful memory that can last a lifetime and have a debilitating effect on a person’s life,’ said researcher Professor Richard Huganir.

He said his findings ‘raise the possibility of manipulating those mechanisms with drugs to enhance behavioural therapy for such conditions as post-traumatic stress disorder’.

Although the scientists used mice in the tests, they believe the results would be the same in humans.

The rodents were conditioned using electric shocks so they would fear a tone. The sound then triggered the creation of the proteins, which formed for just a day or two in the fear centre, or amygdala, of the mice’s brains.

The Johns Hopkins scientists are working on re-opening the window by artificially recalling the painful memory and using drugs to get rid of the protein.

Professor Huganir believes the window may exist in other centres of learning in the brain and the treatment may one day be used to alleviate pain or combat alcohol or drug addictions.

However, Kate Farinholt, of a mental health support group in Maryland, warned there are still many unanswered questions. ‘Erasing a memory and then everything bad built on that is an amazing idea,’ she said.

‘But completely deleting a memory is a little scary. How do you remove a memory without removing a whole part of someone’s life, and is it best to do that, considering that people grow and learn from their experiences?’

Paul Root Wolpe, of the Centre for Ethics, at Emory University in Atlanta, said: ‘Human identity is tied into memory. It creates our distinctive personalities. It’s a troublesome idea to begin to be able to manipulate that, even if for the best of motives.’

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said last night email would go the way of the letter because it is too slow and informal.

The 26-year-old made the claim as he launched the social networking site's new messaging service, which integrates all web and text-based communications and works instantaneously.

The service, perceived as a direct rival to Google's Gmail, marks a new front in the ongoing and increasingly bitter battle between Facebook and Google to gain the loyalty of users.

Mr Zuckerberg revealed that, as rumoured, the 500million people signed up to Facebook will have access to a ‘Facebook.com’ email address.

Facebook’s new email system is modelled on instant messaging and on-line chat and will allow people to simplify their communications regardless of how they choose to do it.

Texts, email or instant messages will all come into one ‘feed’ and users can respond in any way they want.

One person could text a friend, for example, who will see the message come up on their Facebook page instantly and respond via an instant message or email.

Mr Zuckerberg said that he was changing Facebook because young people found email was too much of a ‘cognitive load’.

He said of the new programme: ‘It’s not email. It handles email... along with all the different ways you want to communicate.

'It’s true people are going to be able to have Facebook.com email addresses but this is not email. Email is one way people are going to use this system, but we don’t even think it’s going to be the primary way.

‘The goal of this product is to make it that we can seamlessly integrate across all of these different products very easily.’

Facebook's director of engineering Andrew Bosworth said that, over the course of time, users could look back on their relationships with friends going back years in a modern-day version of keeping letters in a box.

The changes will be rolled out over the coming months on an invite-only basis before being offered to all users worldwide.

Commenting on the launch, Eden Zoller, principal analyst at Ovum, said: 'An email service from Facebook makes a lot of sense.

'It has a huge base of 500 million users that already love to communicate and share, and Facebook is giving them richer ways to do this through virtual gifts, games, location and even voice thanks to the recent integration deal with Skype.

'Adding email to the mix is a logical step and Facebook could tap into user data to provide an attractive, highly personalised service. You would also expect it to push mobile features given its big move in this direction. '

The move will certainly alarm Facebook's nearest rivals such as Yahoo and Google.

In recent months the relationship between Facebook and Google has become increasingly fraught amid the poaching of staff and efforts to throw up barricades to prevent users from easily shifting information, such as email contact lists, between the two platforms.

The changes to Facebook have been under development for more than a year and will be rolled out over the forthcoming months on an invite-only basis before going worldwide.

Last week, Google began blocking a Facebook feature that allows users to automatically import Gmail contact data into the social networking service.

Google accused Facebook of siphoning up Google data without allowing for the automatic import and export of Facebook users' information.

They are also increasingly vying for engineering talent in Silicon Valley. This week, Google internally announced plans to boost salaries by 10 per cent, according to media reports, in a move viewed as an effort to staunch an exodus of engineers and managers to Facebook.

Google has banned Facebook from importing its users' email contacts, a move it says it made because Facebook refused to allow the export of contact and friend data from within user profiles.

The expected announcement by Facebook comes as former internet big-hitter AOL is opening the doors to its new web-based email program, code-named Project Phoenix, for a limited number of users. Starting next year, anyone will be able to sign up for access to a beta test site.

The Project Phoenix inbox page was designed to make it easier to fire off a quick email, text or instant message with just a few clicks on a ‘quick bar’ at the top of the page.

People can also send short replies directly from the inbox page, without having to click on a message first. The new design displays thumbnails of recent photo attachments at a glance, and lets people toggle between several open emails at a time.

Israel's cabinet has approved a scheme to allow into the country nearly 8,000 Ethiopians of Jewish descent.

Many members of the Falash Mura community are living in poor conditions in transit camps in northern Ethiopia.

The Falash Mura's ancestors converted to Christianity under pressure in the 19th Century and so are not eligible to emigrate under Israel's Law of Return.
Thousands who were deemed eligible by Israel have arrived in smaller groups in recent years, but the flow was largely halted in 2008.

At the weekly cabinet meeting, Mr Netanyahu said the remaining Falash Mura would be brought to Israel over the next three years. Six hundred would arrive as soon as next year, and in the three years that follow 200 would make the move each moth, he added.

Humans in the future could live in mini floating cities that drift across the Pacific as if on giant water lilies.

The startling new concept has been dreamed up by Japanese technology firm Shimizu and is designed to be a way of harnessing green technologies and creating carbon-neutral cities.

The Green Float concept involves a number of cells, each one kilometre wide, that house between 10,000 and 50,000 people.

Each individual cell would be free to float on the Pacific Ocean near the equator but could also be joined together with other cells to form larger towns and even cities.

Most people in this brave new world would live in a 1 kilometre-high ‘City in the Sky’ at the centre of each cell. More people would live in residential areas around the edge of the cell.

The central towers would be surrounded by grassland and forests and be self-sufficient in terms of food, while livestock and other farming would take place in 'plains' also surrounding the tower - all built on a lattice of 7,000-tonne honeycomb pontoons.

The towers would be built from super-light alloys with the metal deriving from magnesium in seawater.

The imaginative plan is designed to create a future carbon-neutral society and the Shimizu developers claim that living on cells in this way would cut carbon emissions by 40 per cent.

Shimizu scientists calculate that the water pressure difference between the lagoons and the ocean would limit the movement of the membranes and buffer the force of the open sea waves.

Seawalls as high as 100 feet could also be constructed. And tsunamis in the open sea are far less dangerous than those that hit coastal areas, the designers say.

This is the not the first outlandish idea that Shimizu has come up with. The firm also proposes encircling the moon in a belt of solar collectors that would collect solar energy and transmit it to Earth.

I’m paraphrasing here. But the legal departments of cellphone manufacturers slip a warning about holding the phone against your head or body into the fine print of the little slip that you toss aside when unpacking your phone. Apple, for example, doesn’t want iPhones to come closer than 5/8 of an inch;Research In Motion, BlackBerry’s manufacturer, is still more cautious: keep a distance of about an inch.

The warnings may be missed by an awful lot of customers. The United States has 292 million wireless numbers in use, approaching one for every adult and child, according to C.T.I.A.-The Wireless Association, the cellphone industry’s primary trade group. It says that as of June, about a quarter of domestic households were wireless-only.

If health issues arise from ordinary use of this hardware, it would affect not just many customers but also a huge industry. Our voice calls — we chat on our cellphones 2.26 trillion minutes annually, according to the C.T.I.A. — generate $109 billion for the wireless carriers.

The cellphone instructions-cum-warnings were brought to my attention by Devra Davis, an epidemiologist who has worked for the University of Pittsburgh and has published a book about cellphone radiation, “Disconnect.” I had assumed that radiation specialists had long ago established that worries about low-energy radiation were unfounded. Her book, however, surveys the scientific investigations and concludes that the question is not yet settled.

Brain cancer is a concern that Ms. Davis takes up. Over all, there has not been a general increase in its incidence since cellphones arrived. But the average masks an increase in brain cancer in the 20-to-29 age group and a drop for the older population.

“Most cancers have multiple causes,” she says, but she points to laboratory research that suggests mechanisms by which low-energy radiation could damage cells in ways that could possibly lead to cancer.

Children are more vulnerable to radiation than adults, Ms. Davis and other scientists point out. Radiation that penetrates only two inches into the brain of an adult will reach much deeper into the brains of children because their skulls are thinner and their brains contain more absorptive fluid. No field studies have been completed to date on cellphone radiation and children, she says.

Henry Lai, a research professor in the bioengineering department at the University of Washington, began laboratory radiation studies in 1980 and found that rats exposed to radiofrequency radiation had damaged brain DNA. He maintains a database that holds 400 scientific papers on possible biological effects of radiation from wireless communication. He found that 28 percent of studies with cellphone industry funding showed some sort of effect, while 67 percent of studies without such funding did so. “That’s not trivial,” he said.

The unit of measurement for radiofrequency exposure is called the specific absorption rate, or SAR. The Federal Communications Commission mandates that the SAR produced by phones be no more than 1.6 watts per kilogram. One study listed by Mr. Lai found effects like loss of memory in rats exposed to SAR values in the range of 0.0006 to 0.06 watts per kilogram. “I did not expect to see effects at low levels,” he said.

The city of San Francisco passed an ordinance this year that requires cellphone retailers to post SARs prominently. This angered the C.T.I.A., which announced that it would no longer schedule trade shows in the city.

The association maintains that all F.C.C.-approved phones are perfectly safe. John Walls, the association’s vice president for public affairs, said: “What science tells us is, ‘If the sign on the highway says safe clearance is 12 feet,’ it doesn’t matter if your vehicle is 4 feet, 6 feet or 10 feet tall; you’re going to pass through safely. The same theory applies to SAR values and wireless devices.”

The association has set up a separate Web site, cellphonehealthfacts.com. Four attractive young people are seen on the home page, each with a cellphone pressed against the ear — and all four are beaming as they listen. By this visual evidence, cellphone use seems to be correlated with elation, not cancer.

The largest study of cellphone use and brain cancer has been the Interphone International Case-Control Study, in which researchers in 13 developed countries (but not the United States) participated. It interviewed brain cancer patients, 30 to 59 years old, from 2000 to 2004, then cobbled together a control group of people who had not regularly used a cellphone.

The study concluded that using a cellphone seemed to decrease the risk of brain tumors, which the authors acknowledged was “implausible” and a product of the study’s methodological shortcomings.

The authors included some disturbing data in an appendix available only online. These showed that subjects who used a cellphone 10 or more years doubled the risk of developing brain gliomas, a type of tumor.

The 737 minutes that we talk on cellphones monthly, on average, according to the C.T.I.A., makes today’s typical user indistinguishable from the heavy user of 10 years ago. Ms. Davis recommends keeping a phone out of close proximity to the head or body, by using wired headsets or the phone’s speaker. Children should text rather than call, she said, and pregnant women should keep phones away from the abdomen.

The F.C.C. concurs about the best way to avoid exposure. It is not by choosing a phone with a marginally lower SAR, it says, but rather by holding the cellphone “away from the head or body.”

It’s advice that I find hard to put into practice myself. The comforting sight of everyone around me with phones pressed against their ears, just like me, makes the risk seem abstract.

Who was the Precursor to H.I.V. for Millennia?

The common folks been skeptic of the existence of the killer virus some decades ago had hit the dead end after been shocked by how the virus was spreading at an alarming rate. Scientist have took up their tools to solve the puzzle and find out its roots.

In a discovery that sheds new light on the history of AIDS, scientists have found evidence that the ancestor to the virus that causes the disease has been in monkeys and apes for at least 32,000 years — not just a few hundred years, as had been previously thought.

That means humans have presumably been exposed many times to S.I.V., the simian immunodeficiency virus, because people have been hunting monkeys for millenniums, risking infection every time they butcher one for food.

And that assumption in turn complicates a question that has bedeviled AIDS scientists for years: What happened in Africa in the early 20th century that let a mild monkey disease move into humans, mutate to become highly transmissible and then explode into one of history’s great killers, one that has claimed 25 million lives so far?

Among the theories different researchers have put forward are the growth of African cities and the proliferation of cheap syringes.

Confirming that the virus is very old also helps explain why it infects almost all African monkeys but does not sicken them. Over many generations, as any disease kills off vulnerable victims, the host adapts to it.

The new research, published Thursday in Science magazine, was relatively simple. Scientists tested 79 monkeys from Bioko, a volcanic island 19 miles off the West African coast. Bioko used to be the end of a peninsula attached to the mainland in what is now Cameroon, but it was cut off when sea levels rose 10,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age.

Since then, six monkey species have developed in isolation on the island, and scientists from Tulane University’s National Primate Research Center and other American and African universities found that four of them — drills, red-eared guenons, Preuss’s guenons and black colobuses — had members that were infected with S.I.V.

The four strains in the four species were genetically very different from one another — meaning they presumably did not come from monkeys carried over to the island by humans in the last few centuries. But each was close to the strain infecting members of the same four genuses on the mainland, meaning they must have existed before Bioko was cut off.

Knowing that all four strains were at least 10,000 years old, scientists recalculated the virus’s “molecular clock,” measuring how fast it mutates. They now believe that all the S.I.V. strains infecting monkeys and apes across Africa diverged from a common ancestor between 32,000 and 78,000 years ago.

“When we only had 25 years of data, we were dating from the tip at the end of a branch of the evolutionary tree,” said Preston A. Marx, a virologist at the Tulane primate center in Louisiana and an author of the paper in Science. “I knew that what we had before couldn’t be right, because the virus had spread from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean to the southern end of the continent, and it couldn’t have done that in a couple of hundred years.”

Dr. Beatrice H. Hahn, a virologist from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a discoverer of the simian virus, called the study “a very nice paper,” adding, “This is what people like us have been looking for.”

Previous methods of dating the virus had concluded it was a few hundred to 2,000 years old, “and that just didn’t seem right,” Dr. Hahn said.

But the ancestor virus — which, like many diseases, may have crossed into simians from another, still-unknown species — may have existed for millions of years.

That theory was given greater credence two years ago with the discovery that some Madagascar lemurs have in their genomes the remnants of a virus that was not an S.I.V., but related to it. Madagascar, a Texas-size island 250 miles off the southeastern African coast, separated from Africa 160 million years ago. It has no monkeys, but lemurs’ ancestors arrived there, possibly on floating mats of vegetation, probably more than 10 million years ago.

H.I.V., which is almost universally fatal to humans, is obviously very new to us. As Dr. Marx pointed out, if it had been in humans before the 20th century, it would have arrived in the Americas in some of the 12 million Africans kidnapped for the slave trade. Its immediate ancestor is probably also relatively new to chimpanzees. Last year, Dr. Hahn showed that it can sicken and kill chimps, although not as quickly, meaning they have probably been adapting to it for a few generations.

The virus has probably crossed over from simians into humans at least five times. There are two human immunodeficiency viruses, H.I.V.-1, by far the most common, and H.I.V.-2, which is milder and rarely seen outside West Africa, and which jumped to humans from sooty mangabeys, a monkey that West Africans hunt and eat.

H.I.V.-1, in turn, has four substrains, designated M, N, O and P. The first, which has spread around the world, clearly came from chimpanzees, as did N and O. But P appears to have crossed over from a gorilla; it was discovered only last year, and in only one woman, who was from Cameroon, where lowland gorillas are hunted for meat.

It is very likely, scientists said, that a little infected monkey or ape blood got into human veins many times in history as hunters accidentally cut themselves while butchering carcasses. But even if it sickened those hunters, it probably died out with them or their immediate contacts.

The earliest confirmed H.I.V. case in humans was found in blood drawn in 1959 from a man in Kinshasa, in what was then called the Belgian Congo.

Sometime between the end of the slave trade in the 1800s and 1959, something presumably allowed a human infection with a chimpanzee virus to spread widely enough to evolve into modern H.I.V.-1, which could spread easily among humans, even through fluids exchanged in sex.

Dr. Marx believes that the crucial event was the introduction into Africa of millions of inexpensive, mass-produced syringes in the 1950s. Campaigns to wipe out yaws, syphilis, malaria, smallpox and polio all required syringes, and many were reused, often with official approval. Also, traditional healers adopted them for injecting their decoctions and they became a status symbol; one study in Uganda in the 1960s found that 80 percent of families owned one.

Not everyone agrees. Michael Worobey, a virologist at the University of Arizona and another author of the Science paper, said backdating the molecular clock, which he did by comparing the 1959 blood sample with the only other known early one — a paraffin-embedded lymph node from 1960, also from Kinshasa — suggests the virus emerged closer to 1910, when syringes were handmade, expensive and rare.

He and Dr. Hahn both suspect the growth of colonial cities is to blame. Before 1910, no Central African town had a population greater than 10,000. But urban migration rose, increasing sexual contacts and leading to red-light districts, which even today are hotbeds of AIDS.

The law will come into force early next year if it is not overturned by senior judges. The bill had already cleared the lower house in July and was passed by the Senate with 246 votes to one.

Iran 'releases female US hiker Sarah Shourd'

Sarah Shourd, 32, has been living with Shane in Damascus, where she teaches English and is learning Arabic. She previously taught as part of the Iraqi Student Project, a program which gives Iraqi students living in Damascus the skills to continue their education in US schools. She was on a break from her teaching responsibilities for a week, and she and Shane decided to take a hiking trip with their friends Josh and Shon. Sarah has written articles on travel and social issues reflecting her time in Syria, Ethiopia, Yemen and Mexico. Sarah, who has an older brother and sister, was born in Oak Park, Illinois and grew up in Los Angeles, California. She attended UC Berkeley in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she lived after graduating until moving to Damascus with Shane.
Release of Sarah
Sarah Shourd was detained near Iran's border with Iraq on 31 July 2009, along with two American men, Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal.
The Tehran chief prosecutor said at the weekend that Ms Shourd would be freed when $500,000 (£325,000) bail was paid, and could leave the country. "We have seen the news reports and are urgently seeking further information. We hope and pray that the reports are true and that this signals the end of all three of our children's long and difficult detention.

"Shane, Sarah and Josh are all innocent and we continue to call for their immediate release, so that they can return home together and be reunited with our families."
'Unjust detention'
Their detention has added further strain to the already fractious relationship between Iran and the US, with Iranian leaders repeatedly attempting to link their fate to that of several Iranians being held by US authorities.
Barack Obama, the US president, and Hillary Clinton, the secretary of state, have both called for the release of the hikers over the past year. Obama said the trio were "simply open-minded and adventurous young people who represent the best of America, and of the human spirit".
"I call on the Iranian government to immediately release Sarah, Shane and Josh," he said, adding that their "unjust detention has nothing to do with the issues that continue to divide the United States and the international community from the Iranian government."
Ghanbar Naderi, a journalist for the Iran Daily newspaper, said that the other prisoners would be released shortly. "The female prisoner is going to be released," he said. "I can assure you that the other two will also be released on compassionate grounds."
He insisted that there had been no deal between the US and Iranian governments on the fate of the hikers.
"There is no backroom deal," he said. "Of course the government listens to international

Tony Blair mounted an intense political lobbying campaign to rescue a struggling mobile-phone business owned by a client of the bank that pays him a £2 million annual salary.

The firm, Wataniya, had already built a brand-new network in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian West Bank.

But it almost collapsed before launching its service, jeopardising a £450 million investment, because Israel’s government was refusing to let it use the frequencies it needed to operate.

Acting in his capacity as the international Middle East peace envoy, Mr Blair helped to save the company by spending months putting pressure on Israel’s prime minister and his colleagues in a bid to change their minds.

An investigation by The Mail on Sunday has revealed:

Mr Blair spoke of the need to get Wataniya up and running in order to boost the Palestinian economy. However JP Morgan, the American investment bank that employs him as a consultant, has a financial stake in Wataniya through Wataniya’s owner, the Qatari firm Qtel, which is an important client of JP Morgan.

Financial documents show that back in 2007, JP Morgan had been one of four ‘mandated lead arrangers’ of a $2 billion loan with which Qtel bought Wataniya from its original Kuwaiti owners. Last year, the bank joined a syndicate that lent Qtel a further $500 million, and became a ‘lead arranger’ for a Qtel bond issue which raised yet another $1.5 billion.

In these deals, JP Morgan would have been paid many millions of pounds in fees, and if the loans had gone bad, could have been exposed to substantial losses. ‘Its original exposure was probably around $200 million,’ one Wall Street expert said yesterday.

Last night Mr Blair faced calls to publish full details of the myriad business interests that have netted him a personal fortune estimated to be at least £15 million since he left office.

He is paid not only by JP Morgan but also by the insurance giant Zurich, and his own private consulting firm, Tony Blair Associates, counts among its clients the royal families of Abu Dhabi and Kuwait.

A frequent visitor to Libya, he has used his personal friendship with the dictator Colonel Gaddafi to explore business opportunities there on behalf of JP Morgan.

David Davis, the senior backbench Tory MP, said: ‘There are now clear questions about how he has used his powers as a peace envoy and whether that has benefited his commercial sponsors.

‘He must now put all his financial affairs into the public domain. Only then can we be sure he has behaved in an appropriate manner.’

Mr Blair was appointed an envoy on leaving Downing Street in June 2007. He represents the ‘Quartet’ – the United Nations, the US, the EU and Russia.
His special area of responsibility is the Palestinian economy.

With ten rooms permanently booked at Jerusalem’s most expensive hotel, the American Colony, at an annual cost of £1.1 million, he spends a few days there each month.

As The Mail on Sunday reported last year, many Palestinian businessmen say his achievements have been limited. Projects he has loudly supported – such as an international business park near the holy city of Hebron – have come to nothing.

‘But Wataniya is the great exception,’ one leading West Bank entrepeneur said yesterday. ‘Indeed, until he finally managed to sort it out at the end of last year, it was difficult to get him to engage with anything else.’

When Mr Blair arrived in the Middle East in 2007, there was only one mobile firm, Jawwal, operating in the Palestinian Occupied Territories, Gaza and the West Bank. But Wataniya had already purchased licences for £313 million from Mr Abbas’s Palestinian Authority to provide a competing service.

In July 2008, Mr Blair brokered what Wataniya thought was a cast-iron deal with Israel to make the frequencies it needed available. In order to provide a modern 3G service to include mobile internet, Wataniya had been seeking a bandwidth of 4.8 megahertz.

On the strength of this agreement, it continued to build mobile-phone masts, switching centres and other installations it needed to operate, spending a further £100 million.

It was set to launch in June last year. Meanwhile, amid fierce local controversy, Wataniya managed to secure special additional loans from a US government programme that had been set up to help Palestinian farmers and small businesses – despite the backing it had from Qtel and, indirectly, banks such as JP Morgan.

Launching this programme in 2007, the State Department said it was aimed at ‘an olive grower who wants to expand operations, a young person with a small information technology company, or someone who wants to hire neighbours to produce and export Palestinian embroidery’ – not a £450 million mobile network.

The US loans to Wataniya, though worth a relatively modest £11 million, deprived other enterprises of them.

Critics pointed to the fact that involved with Wataniya were leading members of the Palestinian elite around Mr Abbas. Its Palestine chairman is Mohammad Mustafa – his financial adviser and closest associate, who accompanies him on virtually every foreign trip.

'In the meetings he had with the Prime Minister, he brought it up time and time again, and kept pushing, pushing.'

In the late spring of 2009, Mr Blair’s frequency deal unravelled. Claiming that the Palestinian Authority had failed to fulfil unspecified commitments, Israel refused to release the necessary bandwidth. Wataniya teetered on the brink of collapse as first the June and then a second October launch date, came and went, with the network still inoperative.

Alan Richardson, a Scottish engineer who had already set up a mobile network in Iraq, was Wataniya’s Palestine chief executive until June this year.

‘We invested according to a business plan that was based on false promises,’ he told me last October. ‘We cannot meet our subscriber targets with the frequencies they are offering.’

However, Mr Blair was furiously trying to rescue the company. ‘From day one of this problem, he’s been very proactive through his role as Quartet representative,’ Mr Richardson said.

A senior Israeli official said last week: ‘In the meetings he had with the Prime Minister, he brought it up time and time again, and kept pushing, pushing.’

One reason the Israelis advanced for not releasing the bandwidth was security – claiming it needed the frequencies for military communications. Another Israeli source confirmed that Mr Blair repeatedly raised the matter in meetings with Israel’s defence minister, Ehud Barak.

Mr Blair made several public statements about the Wataniya frequency dispute, and did not mention JP Morgan at all.

‘If we cannot get the proper frequency and it cannot go forward then we don’t have proper competition on mobile telephony and we don’t get the investment and jobs,’ he said after the first launch was cancelled in June 2009.

‘It may seem a small thing in one sense but it’s very important for the Palestinian economy.’

Finally, after Qtel threatened legal action, Mr Blair got his way. Although Israel agreed to release only 3.8 megahertz at first, local sources say it has promised to expand this to 4.8 megahertz once Wataniya has 350,000 customers.

Wataniya launched on November 10, with Mr Blair at the opening ceremony. He said it proved that ‘Palestine is open for business’.

Earlier this year, Mr Blair singled out the affair in a report he wrote on his envoy work to the Commons’ Foreign Affairs Committee.

‘Wataniya’s launch is overdue, but extremely welcome,’ he wrote, ‘[it] means the completion of a key milestone in the economic reform and state building agenda …Wataniya is an example of a flagship project, which has a significant impact on people’s perceptions and hopes for what a lasting peace might bring.’

Yesterday The Mail on Sunday asked Mr Blair’s spokesman Matthew Doyle whether he had declared the bank’s interest in his meetings with the Israelis.

He replied in an email, saying only: ‘Tony Blair raised Wataniya at the request of the Palestinian Authority in his role as Quartet Representative. He has no knowledge of any connection between QTel and JP Morgan and has never discussed the issue with JP Morgan nor have they ever raised it with him. Any suggestion that he raised it for any reason other than the one stated to help the Palestinians or that in some way he has benefited from Wataniya is untrue and defamatory.’

CRONYISM AT HEART OF DEAL WHERE RULING PARTY KEEPS IT IN THE FAMILY

Critics of the Wataniya mobile- phone project backed so strongly by Tony Blair claim it is marred by a longstanding feature of the Palestinian scene – cronyism, in which close associates of the ruling Fatah party leadership somehow manage to derive lucrative benefits.

In the case of Wataniya, the link could hardly be closer – for one big beneficiary of the firm’s investments is none other than Tarek Abbas, the son of the Palestinian Authority president, Mahmoud Abbas.

American-educated Tarek runs Sky, the West Bank’s biggest advertising agency. Last year, it was awarded a contract to be Wataniya’s lead advertising agent, with both a monthly retainer and further payments for individual campaigns.

Palestinian business sources say that its work for Wataniya has been worth approximately £700,000 in the past 12 months – almost certainly, the biggest advertising ‘spend’ in Palestine.

Meanwhile, businessman Firas Nasruddin, a friend of both Tarek and his father, owns Hemaya, a security company staffed by men in sunglasses and black uniforms, some of whom are former fighters against Israel in groups such as the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades. Others are former Palestinian Authority police.

Hemaya has a contract to provide security for Wataniya personnel and installations.

It also serves several other firms that are supported by the Palestine Investment Fund, a large pot of money that is meant to be used to benefit the Palestinian people.

The fund has a 43 per cent stake in Wataniya. President Abbas’s chief adviser Mohammad Mustafa is chairman and CEO of the fund, and chairman of Wataniya.

Wataniya’s spokesman, Mohammad Nassar said last night he could not answer any questions about how the Sky and Hemaya contracts were awarded until next week, while Tarek Abbas’s lawyer – who usually speaks on his behalf – could not be reached.

In an interview last year, Wataniya’s former Palestine chief, Scot Alan Richardson, said there had been ‘a straightforward contract process that went through all the normal procedures’, adding that Sky and Hemaya had been given their deals because they represented ‘best price, best quality’.

Wataniya, he said, operated in a ‘fair and transparent manner’.

Nevertheless, the outcome means that as Tony Blair takes part in the renewed search for a peace deal, both sides will know that his support for Wataniya has produced sizeable benefits for President Abbas’s family and friends.

'Dear Ariel,' Blair began, 'it was a great pleasure to welcome you to London last week. I hope you will agree that the visit was very worthwhile and has marked a new stage in relations between our two countries.'

Yet the rest of his cordial letter said nothing about peace or politics. Instead, it was concerned solely with business - a plea to Sharon to let a British Gas-led consortium start work in a vast natural gas field off the coast of the Palestinian Gaza Strip, a deal worth at least £4billion.

There is no suggestion that Blair has ever derived personal benefits improperly. But a Mail on Sunday investigation reveals that he has been mixing business with Middle East politics since the early years of his premiership and that, since becoming a part-time peace envoy on leaving office in 2007, he has exploited his superb contacts to pursue a multi-million-pound fortune.

Some of the most potentially lucrative of those relationships can be traced back to that BG Gaza gas deal - connections that helped pave the way to the opening up of the Arab world's new Eldorado, the colossal and mostly untapped wealth of Colonel Gaddafi's Libya.

'In Arabic, there is a special word - "eghtina",' said Khadr Musleh, a political analyst in the Palestinian West Bank capital, Ramallah.

'It means "self-enrichment through public office". It doesn't imply anything illegal and in the Middle East it's considered totally normal. Yet it is a little surprising to see a former British Prime Minister and international peace envoy behaving in the same way.'

Blair's Middle East-focused business career has been a triumph. The access to the region's rulers conferred by his position as an ex-PM and peace envoy must have huge attraction for potential clients of Tony Blair Associates, the secretive 'consultancy' that does not publish accounts which he runs with Jonathan Powell, his former Downing Street chief of staff. Its first clients are two of the world's richest families - the royals of Kuwait and Abu Dhabi.

Tony Blair Associates is modelled on Henry Kissinger Associates, an outfit led by President Nixon's former Secretary of State. Fittingly, perhaps, Kissinger was on the jury that awarded Blair the $1million Dan David Prize earlier this year, the 'Israeli Nobel Prize'. Like Blair, Kissinger is employed by American bank JP Morgan. The citation praised Blair's 'exceptional leadership' and 'moral courage'.

Blair has promised to give most of the prize to his Faith Foundation, a charity set up to promote religious understanding. Thanks to his lucrative contract to advise JP Morgan for a salary of £2million a year, he does not need the money.

The Mail on Sunday has confirmed that one of his main roles here is to explore business opportunities in Libya.

Blair has also set up a complex web of private companies known as Windrush and Firerush and their offshoots to channel aid from donors such as Bill Gates of Microsoft to projects in Africa.

However, Blair's record as a Middle East envoy for the 'Quartet' of the US, Russia, the United Nations and EU is patchier.

'I met him four times and I feel sorry for him,' said Zahir Khoury, a Ramallah magnate who owns construction and telecommunications businesses.

'He came here without any real political backing, and he hasn't achieved anything. But he just wants to stay in the limelight, and he has too many money-making ventures to distract him.

'He doesn't understand that this should have been a 24/7, 365-day job. It's not a hobby to bring peace to the Middle East.'

The Palestinian-Israeli peace process is deadlocked. Blair's area of special responsibility is the Palestinian economy but it remains burdened by Israeli restrictions, with movement into and through the West Bank choked by some 600 Israeli army checkpoints.

Blair's official spokesman claimed: 'We have seen a real change as a result of Tony Blair's efforts. The economy is now flourishing. Palestinians are now able to move throughout the West Bank in ways impossible when we started pushing for changes.'

After a week in the area, I had to differ. Twice I had to wait for an hour trying to re-enter Israel from the West Bank and on a third occasion Qalandia, the main checkpoint between Ramallah and Jerusalem, was unexpectedly closed, meaning a lengthy detour.

Meanwhile, a £400million scheme to build a second Palestinian mobile-phone network is struggling - because Blair has failed to persuade Israel to give it the frequencies that would have made it viable.

Opposition MPs said his simultaneous pursuit of business and peace ought to disqualify him from the job he covets - a return to the world political stage as the first EU President.

'No Prime Minister in modern times would have dreamt of exploiting his position in the way Mr Blair appears to have done,' said David Davis, the former Shadow Home Secretary.

Vince Cable, the Lib Dem Shadow Chancellor, said Blair's dual role was 'extremely inappropriate' because the Arab rulers with whom he is doing business all exert influence on the peace process where he is meant to be an honest broker.

Gaza gas deal

The first big deal in which Blair got involved was perhaps the most important for his long-term future - the scheme to exploit the enormous reserves of natural gas that British Gas discovered 20 miles from the Gaza shore in 2000.

To be sure, the deal makes economic and political sense. At the same time, it gave Blair contacts that would prove of lasting benefit after Downing Street.

At its heart was Mohammed Rashid, a Kurdish tycoon and adventurer with extraordinary connections across the Middle East, who was also financial adviser to the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

In the Nineties, Rashid, working with two former Israeli intelligence officers, transferred hundreds of millions of pounds held by Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organisation into secret Swiss bank accounts.

Arafat appointed Rashid head of the Palestinian Investment Fund (PIF), a £1billion company set up to make use of PLO funds. It was in that capacity that he brokered the Gaza gas consortium - composed of BG, which holds 60 per cent of the shares, the PIF (ten per cent) and Consolidated Contractors Corporation (CCC), a huge Palestinian-owned construction multinational with subsidiary firms not only across the Middle East but in Britain and America.

The deal, if Israel were ever to let it proceed, would benefit the Palestinian economy. About half the gas field's revenues would flow through tax to the autonomous Palestinian Authority, so hugely reducing its reliance on overseas aid - a burden on British taxpayers of more than £100million a year.

That may be one reason why Blair tried so hard to persuade Sharon to agree to it. Under the plan, he pointed out in his letter, all the BG equipment would be beneath the surface of the sea, so rendering it immune from possible attack, while a pipeline would come ashore at the Israeli port of Ashkelon, so giving Israel ultimate control of the gas.

Blair said he 'very much hoped' Sharon would make a 'positive decision', saying the project had 'long-term benefits for Israel'.

Yet as the years have gone by, BG has got no nearer to drilling.

At times, Israeli security concerns have blocked progress; at others, Israel's insistence that it become the gas field's main customer - at well below the market price.

In 2007, the takeover of Gaza by the militant Islamist group Hamas became another obstacle. However, a BG insider who has worked on the project said that Hamas has agreed stringent conditions to let the deal proceed and to ensure that revenue is not spent on weapons.

But Blair's spokesman said: 'It is obviously unable to proceed at the current time due to the situation in Gaza. This is not a project we are working on.'

It could be he simply lacks the time. Blair's predecessor as Quartet envoy, former World Bank president James Wolfensohn, spent weeks at a time working on the job full-time. Blair has claimed he spends at least a week each month in his ten-room office suite at East Jerusalem's poshest hotel, the American Colony.

'But often that's an exaggeration,' said one diplomat who deals with him regularly. 'He'll arrive on a Monday evening and leave Thursday morning. In my book, that's not really a week.'

In any event, by the time Blair left office, the gas deal had in one sense served its purpose. It had given him access to Mohammed Rashid, and through him a route to Libya.

There was to be a further curious footnote. Shortly before Blair left office, two of his closest political cronies became paid advisers to one of the deal's partners, CCC.

Stephen Byers, the former Trade and Industry Secretary, and Baroness Symons, the former Foreign Office Minister responsible for the Middle East, are paid undisclosed sums for undisclosed advice. Byers is also chairman of a British CCC subsidiary, AKWA, which builds sewage works. Both refused to comment yesterday.

Rashid, Libya, Blair and JP Morgan

Even as he wrote his 2003 letter to Sharon, Blair must have known that the Gaza deal's broker, Mohammed Rashid, had acquired an altogether greater importance - as the key figure in a secret intelligence 'back channel' through which MI6 was trying to induce Libya to give up its nuclear weapons programme and so cease to be a pariah state.

A worthy political objective in its own right, Blair knew this could have huge commercial side benefits - access to Libya's colossal reserves of oil and gas, as well as huge opportunities for foreign firms to renew its ancient infrastructure.

'Rashid always had good contacts with MI6,' said a Palestinian businessman who has known him for years. 'He met them frequently when he was working with Arafat.'

Libya, he added, was essentially a 'two-man show' - Colonel Gaddafi and his son, Saif al-Islam.

By 2002, Rashid was not only Arafat's but Saif's financial adviser, and spending increasing amounts of time in Tripoli. That autumn, as the WMD storm gathered over Iraq,

Saif asked him to use his British contacts to open talks. 'After further messages had been passed via Rashid, Saif met three MI6 officers in a London hotel,' the businessman said. They were led by Mark Allen - who now works for BP.

Blair's spokesman said 'he has not spoken to or met Mohammed Rashid since leaving office'. Then again, he does not need to. The channel he had opened up allowed Blair to develop his own relationship with both Saif and Gaddafi.

Since leaving No10, Blair has visited Libya numerous times. His spokesman would not state the purpose of his visits.

But a friend of Rashid said: 'If you were JP Morgan, getting Blair involved makes sense. It means you can get close to Saif, and close to his father, and to the heads of the Libyan Investment Authority' - the state-owned body that has some £70billion to invest.

He added: 'Rashid said Gaddafi and all his friends really want Blair to become Europe's President and would do what they can to help him.'

Sources at JP Morgan confirmed that exploring the potential for bank business in Libya is one of Blair's roles. Oliver Miles, Britain's former ambassador to Libya, added: 'He's certainly acting on behalf of JP Morgan but he also has other interests. He's trying to get alongside the investment authority because they have a lot of money to invest.'

Mobile phones for Palestine

Blair's critics in the Middle East say that if his many distractions mean he has made relatively little progress as peace envoy, that may not trouble him.

'For Blair, that's not really the point,' said one diplomat. 'Being envoy has allowed him to remain a player, to attend things like the UN General Assembly, and to look the presidents of Russia and China in the eye.'

One case illustrates his limitations - the setting up of Wataniya, the second Palestinian mobile-phone network. According to his spokesman, 'as a result of Mr Blair's relentless efforts, virtually all of the obstacles have been removed'.

That is not how it looks to Alan Richardson, a Scot who is Wataniya's chief executive. 'I've set up networks in Iraq and Afghanistan,' he said at his office in Ramallah. 'Nothing there was as difficult as this.'

Richardson's problem is that Israel signed an agreement to allow Wataniya to use a 4.8MHz bandwidth - enough to allow it to serve a million subscribers with a high-quality signal. Now, however, citing concerns about 'security', it says it will authorise only 3.8MHz - meaning Wataniya can provide only about half as many lines, and those with a poorer sound quality.

With £400million already invested, Richardson's staff have built 350 transmitters and the rest of the network structure.

'But we just can't meet the subscriber targets with the spectrum provided,' he said. 'We invested in a business plan that was based on false promises.'

Wataniya has been forced to delay its launch several times. Blair, he said, had done his best to help. But to date, there is no sign of progress.

Google Instant: The New Way To Search

Google, which can already feel like an appendage to our brains, is now predicting what people are thinking before they even type. On Wednesday, Google introduced Google Instant, which predicts Internet search queries and shows results as soon as someone begins to type, adjusting the results as each successive letter is typed.

“We want to make Google the third half of your brain,” said Sergey Brin, Google’s co-founder and president of technology, speaking at a Google press event at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Marissa Mayer, Google’s vice president for search products and user experience, added, “There’s even a psychic element to it.”

Google’s new psychic powers result in much faster searches, but the change might affect the many businesses that have been built around placing search ads on Google and helping Web sites figure out how to climb higher in search results to increase revenue.

It is a sign that even as Google expands into other businesses, like display advertising and cellphones, it remains firmly focused on search, its core business and one that accounts for more than 90 percent of its revenue. It has faced competition recently from Microsoft’s Bing search engine.

Google has made its new product the default way to search the Web. Instant works with the most popular modern browsers in the United States and several other countries. It will show up on cellphones and in browser search bars in a few months.

Google Instant, which you can read about on Google’s Web site and also on the company’s blog, is very self-explanatory, except for three issues.

First, as you type, Google delivers the search results for the most likely completion of your search terms. It also pops up a list of five most likely completions for your search. If you want to scroll through the instant results for those alternate completions, don’t click on them with your mouse. Instead, use the arrow keys on your computer’s keyboard to hop down and up through them. If you instead click on one of the alternate completions, Google will make the rest of the list go away and show you the results for that one term.

Second, if you reach Google through a browser toolbar or through the Chrome browser’s omnibar, Google Instant will not yet work for you. To get the Instant results, go to Google.com and use that instead. (It also is not ready for mobile phones yet, the company said.)

Third, if you really hate it, here’s how to turn it off: If your browser has Google Instant enabled, go to the google.com homepage and look to the right of the search box. You should see a link in tiny blue type: “Instant is on.” Click that, and up pops a menu to turn Google Instant on or off, as well as another option to learn more about the feature.

Google Instant uses much less Internet bandwidth than you might think, because its proposed search results are optimized to take up very little data space compared with even a small photo. Also, if you have configured Google to deliver more than 10 search results per page, the Instant feature will set your results count back to 10. If you prefer to read through long lists of results, turn Instant off.

Saudi website for fatwas closes

The popular Islam Today website, run by the Saudi cleric Salman al-Awdah, has closed a section that contains thousands of Islamic religious rulings, or fatwas.

Several websites offering fatwas have recently been blocked, following a decree by King Abdullah.

The decree was seen as an attempt to reduce controversial fatwas issued by minor or ultra-conservative clerics.

Some of these have been a serious embarrassment to the Saudi authorities.

The Saudi newspaper, Arab News, said Islam Today had closed its fatwa pages in order to avoid closure of the website by the authorities.

Restrictions

The decree restricts the right to issue fatwas - usually translated as religious edicts, but sometimes carrying the status merely of advice - to members of an officially approved council of Islamic scholars.

King Abdullah is known to favour reform, but he has faced opposition from conservative clerics and some members of the Saudi ruling family allied with the religious establishment.

Ultra-conservative clerics have sometimes used fatwas to publicly oppose what they see as attempts to Westernise their society.

There have also been a number of controversial fatwas that have embarrassed Saudi reformers.

In one such instance, clerics suggested that the Saudi prohibition on mixing of the sexes could be overcome if a man were symbolically to become a woman's child by sucking on her breast or drinking her breast milk.

'Fatwa chaos'

In other cases, more liberal interpretations of Islam sparked counter-fatwas by conservatives, leading to what some commentators have described as fatwa chaos.

Islam Today gave no explanation for why it had closed its fatwa section. As of 1300 GMT on Thursday, the closure applied only to the website's more popular Arabic-language section and it was still possible to access the smaller fatwa archive in English.

Salman al-Awdah himself was once a controversial figure, a hardline cleric who was imprisoned in the 1990s for inciting opposition to the Saudi government.

He has since reinvented himself as a moderate figure and has become one of Saudi Arabia's most influential religious figures, with a wide following through the media although he has remained outside the government-backed religious establishment.

The ill-fated move by Pastor Terry Jones to get audiences to applaud him has come with such a gust and attracted folks of all walks of life to voice their concerns on what he called “ burn a Quran day” on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, which by the way had nothing to with Islam and Muslims. But did you get to know what he is all craving for? It is such a crystal clear plan set up by some fascists in the realm of Islamophobia under the poorly crafted and poorly painted banner that has duped those that only rely on information from their gatekeepers. Poor them! Linking 9/11 to Muslims. It is all one ill-concieved public relations stunt.

The Dove World Outreach Centre, a 50-member church in the city of Gainesville, was founded in 1986 by Donald Northup.After he died in 1996, the leadership of the church was taken over by Mr Jones, who had been running a sister church in Cologne, Germany.Under the pastor, it has been transformed "from a local church to an apostolic church with a world vision", according to its website.

Terry Jones' claims that he received a lot of encouragement for his protest, with supporters mailing copies of the Islamic holy text to his Gainesville church is baseless and doesn’t ring a bell in a fool’s head. His anti-Islamic philosophy that he wants to inculcate into American citizens is just a mere plan to get more followers for his church that has only 50 followers. He is sure that this is the best chance his church has had to expand its congregation base for the 23 years it has existed. How can I get the figures right? is the question that must have given Terry sleepless nights and he must have decided to cause fracas at a time when building of a mosque at ground zero is causing such a stir, which is actually a clear infringement of the universally-acclaimed freedom of worship.Using such a dull ill-principled banner to do his marketing is, however, going to hit a dead end as that may only serve to alienate him and his Church.

Whatever any Anti-Muslim says or does, Allah's word prevails in the end. Allah says in chapter 9 verse 32 of the holy Quran: "They want to extinguish God's [guiding] light with their utterances: but God will not allow [this to pass], for He has willed to spread His light in all its fullness, however hateful this may be to all who deny the truth". Burning the Quran, a book held in high regard by a billion-plus people all over the world, is a shameless senseless act which will surely result in a backlash.

Is Terrorism a Muslim Monopoly?

This question arises in the minds of the people, during any discussion on religion or world affairs. Muslim stereotypes are perpetuated in every form of the media accompanied by gross misinformation about Islam and Muslims. In fact, such misinformation and false propaganda often leads to discrimination and acts of violence against Muslims.

Oxford Dictionary describes the word terrorism as: 'the use of violent actions in order to achieve political aims or to force a government to act.' The word terrorism was first coined in 1790's during the French Revolution. The years 1793 and 1794 were called as 'The Reign of Terror' or 'Years of Terror.'

During these years Maximilin Robespierre guillotined thousands of innocents. He arrested more than 500,000 out of which he executed 40,000. More than 200,000 were deported and more than 200,000 were starved and tortured to death in the prisons.

Today there is a statement, which is being repeatedly bombarded, especially in the western media and that statement is, 'All Muslims are not Terrorist, but all Terrorist are Muslims.' But here are the historical records on terrorist attacks that speak a different picture:

19th century – We hardly find any terrorist attacks done by Muslims.

1881 – Tsar Alexander was assassinated in a Bomb Blast. He was traveling in a bulletproof carriage in St. Pietersburg Street. The first bomb kills innocent 21 bystanders. The second bomb killed him while he was stepping out of the car. He was killed by Ignacy Hryniewiecki. He was Anarchists.
1886 – Bomb Blast at Haymarket Square, Chicago, during a labour rally. 12 people were killed; one among them was a policeman. Seven policemen were injured and they died in the hospital. The people responsible were 8 Anarchists all of them were non-Muslims.
6 September 1901 – The US President, William McKinley, was shot twice by an Anarchist named Leon Czolgosz. He was a non-Muslim.
1 October 1910 – Bomb blast in Los Angeles at Times newspaper building. 21 were killed. The blast was done by 2 Christians named James and Joseph. They were union leaders.
28 June 1914 – Archduke of Austria and his wife were assassinated which precipitated the World War I. The members of Young Bosnia assassinated them - most of them were Serbs. They were non-Muslims.
16 April 1925 – Bomb Blast in St. Nedelya Church in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. 10,050 were killed and 500 injured. This was the biggest terrorist attack that was done on the soil of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Communist Party did it. They were non-Muslims.
9 October 1934 – King Alexander I of Yugoslavia was assassinated by a gunman by the name of Vlada Georgieff. He was a non-Muslim.
1 May 1961 – First US plane to be hijacked was not done by a Muslim. It was done by Ramierez Ortiz.

In Spain and France ETA conducted 36 terrorist attacks. In Africa there are many terrorist organisations. But the most notorious is the 'Lord's Salvation Army'; a Christian terrorist organisation in Uganda. They train young childrens to commit terrorist attacks.

In Sri Lanka, the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam) is the most notorious. It is the most violent terrorist organisation in the world. They are experts in suicide bombings and they even train children to take part in suicide bombings.

Normally people know Palestinian suicide bombings, Iranian suicide bombing, but they don't know that LITTE are people who have popularized to suicide bombings. The LTTE i.e. Tamil tigers, they are Hindus.

In India majority of the terrorist attacks are talked about the Kashmiri militants. In India there are terrorist organization belonging to almost all different religions. We have Sikh terrorist, the 'Bhindranwala' in Punjab. If you go to South Asian Terrorism portal run by Non-Muslims, and if you see the list of terrorist attacks done by all the people, you will find the Muslims in a minority. But that is never highlighted in the media.

On 5 June, 1984, the Indian Security Forces took over the Golden Temple in which 100 people were killed. In retaliation on 31 October, 1984, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh security guard. In Tripura there are Christian terrorist organizations called ATTF (All Tripura Tiger Force) and NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura). On the 2 October, 44 Hindus were killed by these Christian terrorists.

In Assam we have ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam). ULFA in the 16 years from 1990 to 2006 has conducted successfully 749 confirmed terrorist attacks. The ULFA will put the Kashmiri militants to shame. But in the newspapers we only hear of Kashmiri militant. Why? The ULFA are trained to kill the Muslims, they are Hindus. How many times do we hear about them?

The maximum terrorist attacks, which have been done in India, are done by the Maoists. Only in Nepal, in the past 7 years they have conducted 99 terrorist attacks. According to the Indian Government out of 600 districts in India Maoists are present in 150 districts of India. They have done terrorist attacks in one-third part of India. The Maoists are the biggest dangers to India but yet the Indian Government is afraid of the Muslim terrorist. Why? The reason is George Bush. The Times of India, edition dated 9 September, 2006, reported that 875 rockets and 30 launchers were confiscated by the police. It is the biggest haul in the history of India that the government has confiscated.

From all these things we can surely say that Terrorism is not a Muslim Monopoly. Not a Muslim monopoly, it is not even a specialty of the Muslims. It is not even encouraged by Islam. The Holy Qur'an says in Sura Maidah, chp.5, verse.32, that "If anyone kills any human being, except as a punishment for murder or creating mischief in the land, it will as though he had killed the entire humanity". Most of the religions don't preach that you should kill innocent human being. Terrorism is not the monopoly of any religion.

The human being who has killed the maximum people is Adolf Hitler. Hitler incinerated 6 million Jews. He was Christian. Joseph Stalin (Uncle Joe) killed 20 million human beings; including 14.5 million were starved to death. Mao Tse Tsung of China killed 14 to 20 million human beings. He was Non Muslim. Benito Mussolini of Italy killed 400,000 human beings. Maximilin Robespierre during the French revolution starved and tortured 200,000 people to death and executed 40,000 people. Ashoka in one battle of Kalinga alone killed more than 100,000 people. He was a Hindu. Saddam Hussein killed a few 100 thousands people. But the embargo put by George Bush and the USA alone killed more than half a million Iraqi children. In Indonesia, Muhammad Suharto killed 500,000 people.

This is nothing compared to Hitler or uncle Joe nothing compare to Mao TSE sung each individual will put the Muslims to shame. I am not trying to say that these individual they were religious. If they would have religious then they would not have committed such acts. But yet we find in the international media that the Muslims are called as fundamentalist, extremists and terrorists. The American Revolution took place in the 19th century. According to the British Government the terrorist No. 1 that time was Benjamin Franklin and George Washington.

The Road to the Muslim Holocaust, lets react before it happens

Tolerance is a falsehood often pronounced with difficulty in Western societies. Small countries such as Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, and Norway are leading the pack in the war on Muslims at home, and may be on the road to encouraging a new Holocaust against humanity.

While these countries are part of the US-led coalition, which is responsible for the mass murder of Iraqis and Afghans, they have also introduced discriminate and draconian immigration laws which are specifically directed against Muslims fleeing war and economic hardship. The pretexts are always the phantom of the “War on Terror”.

Historically, Muslims have been at the receiving end of Western-Christian violence for centuries. Following the 9/11 attack on the USA, Western Europe joined the US in its anti-Muslim crusade: “all Americans now” united against Muslims. In this context, 9/11 is used to legitimise a new form of Western-Christian fascism. Media pundits such as Christopher Hitchens and Daniel Pipes, who support the anti-Muslim ideology are springing up like mushrooms all over the Western world. Using the cliché of “free speech”, they are fuelling a vicious and violent war against Muslims around the world.

The recent blasphemous images of Prophet Mohammed are nothing more than a campaign which promotes racism and violence.

Islam is a peaceful religion, and Muslims are not “terrorists”. The insult to Prophet Mohammed, who is revered by over a billion people around the world, has nothing to do with “free speech”. Had the Danish cartoonist shown instead George Bush and Tony Blair slaughtering hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi women and children, he would have lost his job by now and would have been condemned by the same people who are barking about “free speech”. Would any newspaper in Europe dare to discuss Europe’s strict censorship laws of discussing the Holocaust?

In early January 2006, Flemming Rose, the “cultural” editor of Jyllands-Posten (J-P), the Danish newspaper that published the blasphemous cartoons, told Dan Bilefsky of the International Herald Tribune, that, “he would not publish a cartoon of Ariel Sharon strangling a Palestinian baby, since that could be construed as "racist”. In the past, J-P has also refused to run drawings lampooning Jesus Christ submitted in April 2003 by Danish illustrator Christoffer Zieler, because they were “offensive, not funny”. Zieler was also advised by the editor, Jens Kaiser: “I don't think Jyllands-Posten's readers will enjoy the drawings. As a matter of fact, I think that they will provoke an outcry. Therefore, I will not use them”. (The Guardian, 06/02/2006). It is “free speech” only if Westerners agree, otherwise, it is “offensive” or “anti-Semitism”.

The Danish Far Right Party (Dansk Folkeparti), the country’s third biggest party, underpins a hard-line centre-right coalition government and claimed that Muslims are secretly planning to takeover Denmark. Although Muslims make about 2 per cent of the Danish population, one in four Danes have been brainwashed by their opportunist monarchs, politicians and the media to seriously believe that there will one day be “more Muslims” in Denmark than non-Muslims.

The 2005 report of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights (IHF) on ‘Intolerance and Discrimination against Muslims in the EU’ found that attacks on Muslims have markedly increased recently. Muslims in Sweden, Denmark and Austria are encountering difficult barriers. In Sweden, Muslims are advised to change their names to “Swedish- sounding ones” to increase their chance of employment. According to the report, 64 per cent of Muslims interviewed in Britain said that they were “unfairly targeted by counter-terrorism policies”. In Denmark and Austria, the report reveals, Muslim women wearing headscarves are less likely to find work or pursue education. In Sweden, rightwing parties warn of a “Muslim invasion”. Other European countries such as Belgium, Holland, France, Italy and Spain are also contaminated with far right groups and anti-Muslims parties.

In Belgium, the country which has one of the “most vicious and inhuman of all colonial histories”, the far right Party (The Vlaams Blok or Belang) dominates local politics, with an agenda to repatriate all people of colour to their countries of origin. One of its prominent leaders, Filip Dewinter, told the BBC recently; “When I see Muslim culture, I think that our culture is superior. Our values, our way of life are superior and we have to say so. I don't think the way of life of Muslims is compatible with our way of life”

In the “liberal-minded” Netherlands, famous for its brutal and violent colonial history, racism is becoming part of Dutch values. Muslims have become targets of religiously motivated attacks. After the killing of an anti-Muslim fanatic and unknown Dutch film maker, Theo van Gogh, allegedly by a Dutch Muslim of African origin, after making the obscene film about Islam, the Netherlands erupted in anti-Muslim racism. The death of a Muslims-hater is used to justify much uglier crimes. Islamic schools and Mosques were bombed and set on fire. Muslim women were attacked throughout Holland. The right wing Dutch government is embarking on anti-Muslim legislation to crack down on immigration and close-down “suspected” Mosques, and give police powers to arrest people of Muslim faith. Although Muslims make up about one million (6%) of the Dutch population, former EU Commissioner Frits Bolkestein, said recently; “The most common first name registered at birth these days in Amsterdam is Mohammed. This, they say, is the Europe-to-be”.

In France, the situation is not much different. The French can be proud of their well-known hatred for Muslims and Arabs . Former president, Jacques Chirac adopted Jean Marie Le Pen's extremist and anti-Muslims policy, which increased violence against Muslims and denied Muslim women the right to education and employment. According to the IHF report, the French Front National (an offshoot of fascism), stated publicly that France's Muslims “share an allegiance to a wider community of believers that threatens national sovereignty”. Even Muslims, who were born in France, have no standing in the ideals of Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité, and the plague is spreading to neighbouring countries.

The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, compared Islam with the “rise of fascism”. The East German politician who was selected to solve Germany’s unemployment and other social ills seems to find the war on Muslims a much easier issue.

Thousands of Muslims have been arrested and screened by German police only because “their profiles have matched basic criteria, including an affiliation with Islam”, reveals the IHF report. The German state of Baden-Wurttemberg has enacted what is called the “Muslim test”, in which Muslim applicants for citizenship are asked about their views on September 11, gay relationships and whether their teenage daughters are allowed to attend swimming classes. Can you imagine all Germans (in Baden-Wurttemberg) have exactly the same opinion on all three? “I am afraid we have not learned from our history. My main fear is that what we did to the Jews, we may now do to the Muslims. The next holocaust would be against Muslims”, Dr. Wolfram Richter, professor of economics at the University of Dortmund told Ziauddin Sardar of New Statesman magazine in Britain. It has always been easier to use crimes in order to commit even greater ones.

Finally, in Australia, the draconian “anti-terror” laws are designed specifically to victimise Muslims. Indeed, young Muslim men have been thrown in Guantanamo-like prisons not because they committed crimes, but because they are Muslims. Some companies have closed their employment’s doors to Muslim Australians and migrants from Muslim backgrounds. In addition, the army of commentators in the Australian media – one of the most controlled in the world – are accusing the police of “softly” treating Australians of the Middle Eastern backgrounds. This deliberate falsehood is designed not only to discredit the Police, but also to increase injustice and violence against Muslims.

The IHF report’s director, Aaron Rhodes warned that; “these developments threaten to undermine positive efforts at integration and further increase the vulnerability of Muslims to human rights violations and marginalisation”. Hence the IHF report recommends that all EU governments “enhance efforts to prosecute and punish discriminatory and violent acts”. However, the warning may fall on deaf ears. As Sardar writes; “Even among individuals with more relaxed attitudes to interracial relationships, racism is unashamed and upfront”. The governments may be pouring fuel on fire.

To clarify one thing that seemed to be missed by most Westerners; Muslims are not ignorant of Western cultures, or Christianity, which is never part of Western civilisation any way. Jesus wasn’t born in Denmark or Norway. The fact that many Muslims studying in Western and American universities adopted segments of Western popular culture is proof of Muslims acceptability. This misunderstanding of Muslim societies, which suffered greatly under Western imperialism, is embedded in the West's ignorance and imagined superiority, which continues today.

As vassals of U.S. imperialism, these small European nations such as Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands are using their deceptive position of “neutral countries” to commit gross crimes around the world. From Palestine to Iraq and Afghanistan, their armies are complicit in U.S. war crimes against defenceless peoples. In addition, they are participants in the U.S.A's “War on Terror” and “rendition” policy – the policy of kidnapping and covertly delivering an individual or individuals for interrogation and torture in an undisclosed location or country.
In Kenya, the anti-terror police unit only targets Muslims.
For example, Norway is credited with the Oslo “Peace Process”, the “fig-leaf for the ongoing colonization of the West Bank and Gaza Strip”, and the destruction of Palestine. Indeed, the Oslo ”Peace Process” allowed Israel to confiscate over 50 per cent of the West Bank and constructed dozens of Jewish-only colonies for Talmudic extremist fanatics.

The Netherlands, is leading the way in “building democracy” and terrorising the people of Afghanistan. Denmark with 530 soldiers is part of the so-called “coalition of the willing”, the group of vassals that participated in the illegal and criminal invasion of Iraq. Indeed, Dutch soldiers are complicit in the sadistic torture and abuse of Iraqi prisoners and detainees.

Indeed, the whole world is gearing up to a war against Islam and Muslims. A holocaust, this time a true one, may be on the cards. Jews feigned one, this time, it could be real unless something is done soon.

Israelis Plot to Infiltrate Wikipedia

The Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz says “For years now, Wikipedia has been a fierce battleground between the Israeli right and left. One key battle was over the entry for Bil’in and whether the weekly struggle at that village near the security fence should be described as violent. Another battle was over the description of the Ariel University Center. Was it ‘the largest public college in Israel?’ Or should an institution in Ariel not be considered as being in Israel? So a compromise was reached: ‘the largest Israeli public college.’ ”

Ariel is an illegal Jewish settlement in the West Bank, but that isn’t the only Israeli topic to be edited on the Internet. Good luck finding a detailed honest account of the Jenin Massacre, including the Israeli refusal to allow UN inspectors to inspect the rubble of that massacre. If you type in “Jenin Massacre”, you’ll find it renamed the “Battle of Jenin” and the article talks of “rumors” of a mass slaughter of hundreds to thousands of Palestinian civilians. If there were no mass slaughter, why did Israel refuse to allow in UN inspectors?

The attack on the USS Liberty is similarly prone toward censorship even though the captain of the ship says that the Israelis deliberately attacked and mass murdered 34 Americans. If you type in “Attack on the USS Liberty”, it morphs into “The USS Liberty Incident” and the Wikipedia article starts off by noting that the US Government has (under tremendous Jewish pressure) classified the incident as a mistake. The survivors of the attack on the Liberty would have some choice words to say about that bit of dishonesty.

Ha’aretz goes on: “Now the Yesha Council of settlements and another right-wing group, Israel Sheli, are embarking on a Wikipedia battle: Zionist editing on the Web-based encyclopedia. In other words, the Internet is something the Jews do not control and the Jews consider this a problem.

The article notes “The course was designed to teach how to register for, contribute to and edit for Wikipedia. The organizers’ aim was twofold: to affect Israeli public opinion by having people who share their ideological viewpoint take part in writing and editing for the Hebrew version, and to write in English so Israel’s image can be bolstered abroad. The Yesha Council also announced a prize for the ‘Best Zionist Editor’ – the person who over the next four years incorporates the most Zionist changes in the encyclopedia. That lucky encyclopedist will receive a trip in a hot-air balloon over Israel.”

This has always been the problem with Wikipedia: it lends itself to ideological distortion and propaganda on the part of the people who control it. They also control who is allowed to make posts and edits, and who are also allowed the even more important power of deleting the work of others.

One source notes “the (Wikipedia) site was hosted on the servers of Bomis, Inc., a company mostly owned by Jimmy Wales, who currently funds part of the site’s operational costs. With the announcement of the Wikimedia Foundation on June 20, 2003, the ownership of all domain names as well as the technical equipment was transferred to the Foundation. The site is run by the community of Wikipedians guided by the principles articulated by Jimmy Wales, including, for example, an adherence to a neutral point of view.”

Unfortunately a “neutral” point of view can mean perpetuating propaganda that most people grew up with in regards to things like Diversity, racial equality, Israel and the Holocaust. Also, the current proprietor is going to be susceptible to the extreme pressure tactics that the Jews often use. If there are squeals of “antisemitism” whenever a truthful article, which the Jews don’t like is added to Wikipedia, there’s a good chance factual information will be deleted especially if these Israeli-trained editors work their way up the ladder at Wikipedia.

On the plus side, we can also work our way up as editors at Wikipedia to counter the organized effort by the Israelis.
