Movie Review - The Love Hypothesis

2026-10-22T13:39:42.728-07:00

4/5

The Love Hypothesis features Lili Reinhart (who also produced it) and Tom Bateman. The two characters are charming and easy for the viewer to fall in love with. This is a very cute rom-com that got me feeling that maybe Rom Coms are back!

The storyline is obvious / formulaic but hey, so is a heros journey and who are we to judge. The pretend - relationship pact is very cute and done well here. I had a great time and the pacing of the build up to the big moment was all very interesting. Lili Reinhart shined in this movie, she's so lovely!

I highly recommend this if you are looking for a easy rom com that is just fun and relaxing to watch.

Tv show review/ recommendation: Take A Hike! on Netflix

2026-10-16T19:49:03.439-07:00

5/5

As an avid reality TV watcher (American dating shows, Korean dating shows, culinary class wars, love is blind, the list goes on), its always refreshing to find a new TV show thats bombtastic and incredibly entertaining.

Take a hike is a naturally funny show based on the team dynamics. There are 4 celebrities involved and they mesh super well. It's also probably because nothing bonds you like the trauma of hiking gruelling hikes. The NA PD who produced this show is famous for a game show called 2D1N if I recall correctly. Anyways, it's a blast, it's positive and charming and I absolutely enjoyed it. It also made me want to go hiking in Korea! The drone shots were stunning. The pace is great and the theme song was stuck in my head so much that when I was hiking recently i was humming the song.

Movie Review - Babygirl

2025-02-24T12:09:00.000-08:00

3/5 one star for Nicole Kidman's outfits, which means in reality this movie got a 2/5.

This was categorized as a "Erotic/Thriller", well, it was not a thriller whatsoever and barely erotic. In my opinion, many of the ideas were half baked and I get the general theme that people in positions of power in one place of their life (being a CEO in her case) may have fantasies of being submissive/ have someone tell them what to do in other places in their life, it wasn't executed in a way that was impactful, to me at least.

In theory, that can be very hot, I think the build up of this movie was just not there. While the acting was great, and both main actors did well, I just expected so much more from the trailer. Also there are scenes from the trailer that did not show up in the movie at all. This is also one of those movies where if you just communicated with your husband, the movie wouldn't really exist. I'm not sure, maybe the target demographic of this movie was a bit older, I just wanted and expected more. More tension! More desire!

TV Show Review - The Bear S1

2023-07-02T23:17:00.001-07:00

5/5

A TV show so damn good I had to come back to my ancient blog and share. I've literally been hearing about this show for what feels like forever. Finally sat down and watched it and ---- why did I wait so long to do this???? It's fantastic from the get go.

The Bear shows resiliency and growth and simply becoming better. It's so friggin satisfying to watch and the storyline/ character development is so incredible in it's depth. I am rooting for Everyone. truly. It's simply a very well written show, no fillers. I LOVE the pace of it and the shots of the food - oh ma god.

I‘ve had a soft spot for Jeremy Allen White since Shameless and his acting is incredible in this show. Ok - I mean the character is not drastically different from Lip, but it's still really, really good. His storyline is so interesting to watch.

The eps are quite short so this is a highly bingeable show. Would recommend. Gosh! So good.

Cheapest and most accessible antigen test for travel in Vancouver!

2021-11-19T12:13:00.004-08:00

I just got my antigen test done and it was such a great experience, on top of it being the lowest price I could find anywhere in Vancouver for only $99 plus tax. Was able to get my results in 15 min which I can use at the airport!

The location is 8171 Ackroyd Road, Unit 6040.

Right next to the Lansdowne Skytrain station. Very clean clinic. Everyone is super friendly and I had a great time! Would recommend. Cheers y'all!

I finished Sex Education Season 3 and now feel empty inside - A tv show review

2021-10-25T10:03:00.001-07:00

5/5

Season 3 was a work of art. The beauty of the show, the poetic-ness and simplicity of it made me cry quite a few times. I love shows where everyone seems so real, and flawed, but still so lovable. Season three stands out to me to be by far my favourite season ever.

The colour gradient for this show has consistently been so gorgeous, always warm tones but also the night shots are super blue and cold, and simply stunning, it feels that every scene was meticulously planned, and looked like paintings. The stories were simply so touching and I also had so many good laughs. Truly a great show, with amazing actors, and story. Highly recommended it. I can NOT believe how good it was, honestly, it was so good.

Cafe review - The Press Room in Olympic Village

2021-09-26T14:52:00.002-07:00

4.5/5

Great ambiance, good service and good music. I liked the almond croissant as well as the flat white. Happy that they offer alternative milks and for here mugs. The espresso shot in the drink wasn't the most fragrant I've ever had, but it was good. Really enjoyed everything about here!

Would definitely revisit for the dirty chai if I were in the area :)

Movie review - A Quiet Place 2

2021-07-08T16:16:00.001-07:00

4/5

First movie inside a real theatre for more than a year!!! I've missed it sooooo much.

It was pretty good, still really suspenseful. The first movie was better but there were a few highlights in this movie. I don't think they need to make this movie into a trilogy to be honest.

Still really good though! Will recommend.

Movie review - MIB: International

2021-05-31T20:54:00.002-07:00

4.25/5

I feel like I haven't properly finished a movie for a long time. Just finished this one after watching sections of it overtime.

It's really entertaining, definitely takes it form from Guardians of the Galaxy. It's fun, and quirky, with aliens and animals. Chris hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are both great.

I realllly wish I could've seen this in theatres, it's a perfect movie to watch while eating popcorn.

Why did no one tell me New Girl is a fantastic show?

2021-04-16T23:28:00.002-07:00

4.5/5

Did I really have to find out New Girl is good by watching it my damn self? Why did no one push me to watch this???

This show is fairly old at this point. However, it's still wholesome af and makes me want to have roommates. There's something beautiful about all the friendships in the show, and I simply LOVE it, it's super cute to watch right now, during the pandemic. For sure.

I feel like in the first few episodes, it wasn't THAT funny, but it really hits it's stride at the latter half of season one and becomes this LAUGH out LOUD show. I love it!!! I LOVE that Jess is unapologetically herself and her friends absolutely accept her for that. I actually basically love everyone in the show. Schmidt is a stand out character for me, he is particularly hilarious.

Anyway, if you are looking for something wholesome to binge and hasn't watched New girl, give it a try.

New Show recommendation - New Amsterdam on Netflix

2021-03-10T18:26:00.005-08:00

4.5/5 Medical show about a new medical director and how he's fresh faced, and trying to change the medical system to be more humane. I like the plot and I like the hopefulness of the show!

There's a LOT going on in this show and I LOVE it. The pace is super fast and refreshing, HOWEVER, I was surprised that Netflix did not have English subtitles ready for the Spanish speaking parts of the show ( there is actually quite a bit of Spanish spoken and in the subs, it just says "speaking Spanish" which is not helpful at all. HOWEVER, if I turn on the Chinese subs, they translated the Spanish into Chinese. So I'm happy that I didn't miss those parts, but I'm definitely irked for people who can't read Chinese or understand spanish. What he said to the Spanish speaking people was important and I hope they add the translated subs in the future.

The pilot had so many plot points it was kind of getting ridiculous at the end --- but you can tell they tried to cover as much plot lines as possible in which they can use in the future, which is a strategy for sure.

I honestly think this show has a lot of soul and is really satisfying to watch. There's tons of situational drama and clearly unlrealistic plotlines, but that's ok, that's hollywood!

Anyways, I think it's super entertaining and I recommend it! At least the first season.

Perchance Tea - Matcha Strawberry Oatmilk Bubble Tea is refreshing and easy on the eye!

2021-02-23T23:01:00.002-08:00

5/5 So cute!

I love that Perchance really cares about every drink they make. It absolutely felt that way to me. However, this place definitely feels more like a coffee shop or a tea shop than a typical bubble tea place -- which I like! The matcha was nice and strong, and I love that they can sub soy milk or oat milk. I also love that I could use my own cup for both of the drinks I got :)

It's so cute that I wish I lived in this neighborhood, I'd be here all the time!

People who work here are super friendly.

Recommended!

Movie Review - My Octopus Teacher

2020-10-18T17:14:00.001-07:00

4.75/5

Wow, what a stunning movie mostly shot in the ocean. I personally love snorkeling so this was the movie for me. My octopus teacher is about the relationship between this man and an octopus he became friends with. I have always loved the unique intelligence of octopi so this movie was eye opening and a joy to watch. So poetic and poignant about our relationship with the earth that surrounds us. I think it's a beautiful movie that anyone would enjoy.

TV show review - Emily in Paris

2020-10-18T17:06:00.004-07:00

3.5/5

Emily in Paris is about an American girl in marketing who ends up in Paris, and how her American culture clashes with French culture!

Did I binge watch this show? Yes. Did I love it? No, but I love to hate on it. There's something fun about rolling your eyes and being slightly annoyed. I can't imagine how unwatchable this show would be if not for Lily Collins being extra charming. She kind of saved the show.

Kind of entertaining, not going to lie, but in a way where I used 1 of my brain cells to watch this, and that brain cell was half asleep. So this is def a show for when you are kind of tired.

It kind of reminded me of gossip girl but a super botched version. I definitely feel like there was a LOT of tokenization going on in the show, which is, you know, always unwelcomed. Also lots of weird " french ppl are sooooo rude" stereotypes. Really disliked that.

Anyways, it's fun to hate on. I have no regrets of binging the whole thing, it has it's place in the world.

Netflix Movie Review - I am thinking of ending things

2020-09-08T08:45:00.002-07:00

2.75/5 [ Psychological Horror]

Man, I was so excited to watch this.... eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is one of my most rewatched movies, and this movie is by the same creator.

This movie is a mood killer, although it really sucks you in in the beginning, the ending leaves you with more questions than answers. I do not feel satisfied. And yeah, it was an artistic choice to do that, but I very much disliked it lol. The cinematic-ness was appreciated and I loved the setting of the mood.

Part Hereditary, part good will hunting, part Always Sunny (Nightman ep) part interstellar. And a little dash of Eternal sunshine. I am confused by this movie and it just felt ...abrupt and very random xD. I think reading the book first would have helped

My opinion of the movie is that it is about the passage of time and how time... is a circle etc, how the choices we make in our life diverge our life from other possibilities, parallel universe. The main girl is really good at acting, although her character is not exactly likable, actually there's no one likable in the entire movie really.

Too abstract for me. I appreciated the mood setting w colours though.

Book review - Educated by Tara Westover (memoir)

2020-08-17T17:22:00.002-07:00

4.75/5

I wouldn't say this is a pleasant read. This is an immersive read that is hard to put down --- the story is so infuriating (because I can't help the protagonist/ the author) but it's an important read.

I have very briefly heard of this book through a few recommendations on the internet and has had a little mental bookmark on it. I was very excited to receive this as one of my VPL picks via a librarian. What a wonderful program.

So I read this book without any knowledge what it's about, I knew it was probably about education? But this book is about growth, and the importance of knowing more, knowing things that are bigger than yourself and previously unknown to you, and how that can make you stronger.

Tara Westover grew up in Iowa, in a doomsday prepping extremist mormon family that thought BYU was too mainstream. Her father, especially, does not believe in the government and is both vibrant but also very toxic. She did not have a birth certificate. Her education, at the beginning, was a few books in the basement that was basically untouched.

Her story is one I have never heard about in the U.S. Apparently, this is more common than I thought -- families move into "homeschool" friendly states where they than further their extreme religions and escape the typical american school system. Is this a form of child neglect? Perhaps. In Tara's case, absolutely.

Her story is also about how our connections save our life/ change our life. Making that first step to change is the hardest, and you always want to go back to familiarity, because it's comfortable.

I thought the story was brutally real, and heartbreaking most of the times. It is a story of resilience but also so much, so much pain.

I loved it, I think this would be a perfect book club book. No wonder Obama recommended this book, it's amazing.

Netflix special review - Eric Andre's Legalize Everything

2020-06-26T11:04:00.002-07:00

4/5

Eric Andre's set is pretty short and sweet, but I think a whole set about drugs can get old fairly quickly. We did laugh a lot because he IS a funny guy. Hmm, I mean it sounds like he is really living his life and having a great time so I like that a lot. Some jokes hit well and some other ones did not. I am a big fan of his normal eric andre show and this is much less chaotic and abstract. Anyways, he talks about legalization & kfc chickens and how messed up everything is but always ends on a joke but I think that's just what comedians have to do man...

It was fun, it was a good time. I would recommend it. His skits are better though.

Netflix Show Review - Space Force Ep 1

2020-05-31T22:31:00.002-07:00

3/5

Space Force is about putting Americans on the moon by 2024. It was not a very memorable pilot what so ever.

Steve Carrel & the maker of The Office co created this show? Of course we had very high hopes. I thought that the pilot was just.... ok, maybe 2 or 3 jokes hit. A lot of jokes had really awkward timing. I didn't find any character very relatable / even remotely fleshed out. Is Steve Carrel still lovable in this show? Yeah, but man, some jokes get old SOOO fast.

I don't know yet, but I will probably watch another ep or 2 to make sure it's all bad. So far it's been very bland!

My Top 5 Teas

2020-04-14T13:10:00.001-07:00

I've always been a tea lover, especially herbal teas. Been using my metal tea strainer recently a lot with loose leaf tea and it's been a delicious time. I want to talk about the teas I love the most and the health benefits!

Currently drinking - Hibiscus tea. From Bulk Barn. Delicious, tart. Great for liver and reduces inflammation. Lovely as a cold drink with a slice of lemon. Lovely as a hot drink as well.

Matcha - Delicious - i LOVE having it with a little bit of non-dairy milk. Great as a hot or cold drink. Looking for a good source of organic matcha right now. Considering Whisk Matcha in Vancouver

Rooibos - some of the most delicious teas I've ever had. Especially vanilla rooibos.

Peppermint - so great for digestion and so refreshing. I looooove peppermint tea at night after dinner.

Raspberry leaf tea - I drink this religiously during my periods. It reduces cramps so much that I don't need to take ibuprofen anymore. Tastes really delicious too! I got a bag of looseleaf at a health store in Revelstoke but I also use traditional medicine's raspberry tea. Both are good!

Jasmine green tea. So fragrant and delicious!

Chai tea - omg is there anything else better than a sweet sweet chai?

Let me know some of your fav teas in the comments below!

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness - Netflix documentary review EP 1

2020-03-25T12:08:00.001-07:00

4/5

This show has been getting a lot of buzz. I juuust watched Grizzly man recently and have been on a animal documentary kick so this was perfect.

The documentary is super well filmed and the story is b - i -z - a- r- r- e. It's almost like corporations fighting for profit through monopoly. Also it's just really sad to see domesticated tigers, but also wow are they simply beautiful animals. This show is a deep dive into the human psyche of what happens when your average cat lady moves on to bigger cats. It's electric. I am loving it and will continue to watch the rest of it.

Lots of moving parts in the story and Im super intrigued.

LOVE IS BLIND review

2020-02-28T13:03:00.001-08:00

4/5

Love is blind is a reality tv show that is - - you know - not the BEST cut show but it is their first rodeo and I was super into watching it regardless. It's entertaining, juicy and what I wanted. I also looooved sleuthing and seeing other people talk about it on Reddit.

I can't believe I just the idea now to make a review/ recommendation of this show. This reality dating show has taken the world by storm and I can see why. It's been a long time since I've been anticipating something on tv for a long time.

Love is blind is the circle + bachelor in paradise + big brother kind of. It's juicy, it's got an intense casting and real love all in one show.

My favourite couple is of course also everyone's fav couple - Lauren and Cameron. They both seem like people that would work through hardships and I loove them together!

Highly recommend it if you like the circle, and or other reality tv shows. It's so good!!! I hope they can recreate this for the next season because that would be awesome!

Movie Review - Dark Waters

2020-02-23T18:06:00.002-08:00

4/5

Mark Buffalo Ruffalo Falafel doing seriously good work. A slow burn of a movie at the beginning but becomes faster paced as time goes on. I thought this true story was terrifying but his character makes me believe that there are good people in the world.

Dark Waters is a movie about Dupont and their cover-up of disease causing problems with teflon. It's actually a good movie and made me gasp a few times. These are real people's lives and that is the part that upsets me. As documentaries go, this is a good one. You can tell by the reviews it's getting, not just from me! Give it a watch, Mark Ruff was great! And so was Tim Robbins!

Oscar winning film Parasite and my thoughts

2020-02-10T14:54:00.002-08:00

4.5/5

I have watched a few movies by Bong Joon Ho and have enjoyed it. This one was super well made and engaging, I loooooooove the mood and cinematography of the movie, there are details that he talks about in interviews that make the movie even more impressive.

The acting is top notch, the movie has so much socio political meaning and yet is so juicy to watch. I highly recommend it.

It IS slightly scary and I still remember being spooked out, and it can feel claustrophobic at times. Impressive impressive work. Would recommend.

Congrats on the oscars!!!!
