Firstly I'd like to welcome you to our forum, 'our' because it is for all of us. We're are free of sponsorship responsibilities and openly encourage the participation of all brands of tile related products and services.

So as this is the first 'live' post, let me briefly introduce myself and hopefully you'll add your introductions afterwards.

I'm Jeff Nicholls, a retired professional tiler of many many years. I've worked all over the world, but mainly in Spain where i now live and a lot of work in Italy. I've always specialised in geometric flooring and highly detailed mosaics. But as I said, I'm retired but hopefully able to help out fellow fixers.

I'm sure you'll recognise a few of the moderators on here. Look forward to reading your posts!!

i'm going to upgrade my makita radio today to the dab version as i want to be able to get more stations. if anyone wants my old one for £40 let me know. it's only 12 months old, works great and when it's had a clean it will be like new. you'd have to pay postage or i could possibly get it to you in north wales/liverpool.

Not used that much theses days,but any you guys/gals used one lately.....

Just asking,done a few (closes..that's what we call stairways up ere in sunny Glasgow lol..)

Anyway had a few yun ins with me and mate....so thought we would show them,how the older yins used to do it before laser levels came on the scene...p.s.i am still young...I hope...41yrs young lol...

Floorheater-underfloor heating

Has anyone fitted a product from floorheater.co.uk ?

I have been told that the adhesive has been dispatched with the product, the literature on the website states:

"The only tile adhesive that should be used on our systems is Mapei Kerabond with Mapei Isolastic."

It looks the same as the PP system to me, i have a Tiler wanting to know if its same to install ontop of.

I might have to call the tech helpline, anyone used this?

Would be interesting to know what Mapei have to say.

New Sigma 3EM 128cm Review

(Sorry if this is long winded and wordy!)

I’ve long been a
Montolit user. I like Montolit due to the solid no-frills construction
and strength of break. I’ve used Rubis before now (old and new) but
never really got along with them. I do like that using a Rubi you can
see the score line clearly but they’ve always felt – and perhaps more so
now with the bigger versions – a bit “spongey” and delicate. And no
matter what people may argue – I just don’t buy the concept of “needing”
different size cutting wheels. Adjustments in pressure should be done
with the handle surely, not the wheel diameter?

Anyways, I’ve
long been teased about getting a “real” cutter (meaning Sigma
apparently!) So, I find myself fixing more and more meter plus tiles
and I’ve had chance to use a big Sigma 3EK Max.

First observations when it arrived “it’s big!” this is the 128cm version.
Laid on my dining table and I couldn’t get it all in the frame with my head on the ceiling!

1000 visitors per day on tiling forum

Really happy to say we now get a 1000 visitors per day using the tiling forum, mostly coming from google for tile related search terms. So chances are these visitors will also be reading your advice and your signatures; hopefully this will turn into leads and work.

recently got some great advice from you guys, thanks for that but the plan has now changed.
as i previously said i am getting a patio laid, it was originally going to be slate but now looking at porcelain and using bal rapidset ?
have also been told to use bal admix ad1 too.
what,s the verdict on this idea

Derby's very own DIYSOS

Took a call from one of Derbyshire's leading building companies a few weeks back, which has led so far to some great free PR.

Derby County Football Club, under the 'Community Rams' banner, to commit to working with the charitable organisation in work based loosely on the 'DIY-SOS' television programme, to help re-launch a new Community Centre for under privileged youngsters in Derby.

Under the watchful eye of local builder Ian Hodgkinson, who will be project manager for the 2 day project, a whole host of DCFC players, along with many local builders, plumbers and businesses are taking part.

Tile Town are delighted be part of the project, together with our adhesive supplier Weber, who have offered there support along with British Ceramic Tiles the 2 days could be alot of fun.

Derby's leading tiling contractor Derby Tiling Company have also given up there time for this, which is a fantastic gesture.

I will promise to upload some before and after pictures.

Just found out today a camera crew is going to be there, as is Ian Hogkinson's best mate Craig Philips (him off of big brother, DIYSOS)
