The Basket Of Survival

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Wed, 13 Sep 2017 16:38:00 +0000

Son carries old parents in a basket on a two weeks trek to escape Myanmar killings.

Just inside Myanmar, where Islam and Buddhism collide, thousands of desperate Muslim families are on the move. About 300,000 Rohingya civilians have fled to Bangladesh since late August. Many people have died trying to get out.

The inhumane treatment of the Rohingyas has tarnished the image of Myanmar’s civilian leader and Nobel peace prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, once a famously unflinching defender of human rights and darling of the West.

She now faces international fury, particularly from Muslim nations, for failing to stand up to armed forces chief General Min Aung Hlaing, whose soldiers are accused of rape, murder, arson, and of ripping Rohingya babies from their mothers’ arms and throwing them into rivers and fire.

Ms Suu Kyi has publicly stuck to the military’s line that the Rohingya are illegally squatting on the Burmese territory, leaving fellow Nobel winner, Malala Yousafzai, aghast and urging her to speak out against the tragedy.

The latest military crackdown, which began on August 25, caused almost 90,000 Rohingyas to flee under fire to squalid, overflowing relief camps across the Bangladeshi border in just two weeks.

Officially close to 400 people had died by early September, but human rights activists claim to have confirmation of at least 1,000 deaths and believe the figure is much higher.

The death toll will inevitably rise after Burma, also known as Myanmar, blocked UN agencies from delivering vital food, water and medicine supplies to 250,000 Rakhine residents desperately in need

Conte vs Diego Costa

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Tue, 15 Aug 2017 13:49:00 +0000

Diego Costa has been ordered by Chelsea to return to training, get match-fit and make himself available for selection.

This is the first hint that Costa could have a future at Stamford Bridge, after manager Antonio Conte informed him via a text message, to look for a new club this summer.

Conte later revealed the decision was made in January, when the Spain striker was pushing for a move to Chinese Super League outfit, Tianjin Quanjian. The incident led to him being dropped, after a clash with fitness coach Julio Tous. The 28-year-old striker has since decided he would rather return to Atletico Madrid, but the clubs are not close to an agreement.

Talks have stalled and Costa’s lawyers want him released on a free transfer, because his contract has been breached by Conte’s message.

Costa, whos is in his home town of Lagarto in Brazil, was dropped for preseason in China and Singapore, after the Blues gave him permission to negotiate a move away.

Chelsea, however, are not prepared to let Costa languish on the other side of the Atlantic when he has two years left on a £180,000-a-week contract and they are short of players.

His return might see tensions heightened within the squad, with Conte already frustrated with the club’s failure to bring in some of his transfer targets.

His reservations about the strength of his squad were compounded by the sale of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United. The Premier League champions also began the new season with a shock 3-2 home loss to Burnley.

Conte’s current deal expires in 2019, but there are fears he might leave the club if he feels his authority is threatened.

He is already the bookmakers’ favourite to be the next manager to leave

Alledge Lopsided Governance In Kogi

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Sat, 12 Aug 2017 02:02:00 +0000

A socio -cultural organisation, Ukomu Igala (Voice of Igala people), Kaduna State chapter has called on the National Assembly to address the alleged injustices being meted to the people of Kogi State, particularly Igala people by the Governor Yahaya Bello -led administration.

Rising from a meeting in Kaduna, the Interim Chairman of the organisation, Dr. Baba Ejiga, lamented the suffering and alleged impoverishment of Kogi people due to the nonpayment of workers’ salaries by the state government.

He stressed the need for the Igala nation to take its rightful place in the scheme of things in Kogi, adding that hope was rising until the unfortunate death of Prince Abubakar Audu, who was poised to win the 2015 governorship election.

He said time had come for the sons and daughters of Igala nation to take their destiny in their hands, instead of accepting “the dictation of a tiny minority in Kogi State”.

To actualise this, he called for unity among the Igalas home and in the Diaspora to forge ahead towards the growth and development of Igala land.

Dr. Ejiga, said the socio- cultural organisation was formed to fill the leadership vacuum in Igalaland, as no individual or group was championing the cause of the people.

Bishop And Others Tell Buhari To Resign

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Sat, 12 Aug 2017 01:54:00 +0000

Some bishops have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign from office because of his ill health. The bishops also reprimanded the Presidency for persistently refusing to disclose Buhari’s health status, saying they were in support of protesters demanding the President’s resignation. Since Monday, the ‘resume or resign’ protesters — backed by a popular artiste, Charles Oputa (also known as Charly Boy) — had accused Buhari’s handlers of holding him captive.

Ogenyi Omani's Move To Blues

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Sat, 12 Aug 2017 01:52:00 +0000

The agent of Super Eagles vice captain Ogenyi Onazi has refused to confirm or deny reports in the Turkish press about his client possible move to English Championship side Birmingham City.

A 4 million pounds transfer fee has been agreed between Birmingham City and Onazi’s Turkish club Trabzonspor and the player is due in England for a medical, according to various reports in England. It’s believed the 24 year old Nigerian worldwide will cost Birmingham City €4.5m.

Onazi has Serie A and Super Lig experience but if his move to Birmingham goes ahead it will be his first stint in England.

But having gone trial with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in 2010, but a deal could not be reached with both teams because of work permit issues.

“You’ve got to see what you can get really”, Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

“I cannot tell you anything this time around, but it’s clear we have been approached by some clubs based in England and outside England”.

Woman Kills Baby And Dumps Body In Refrigerator

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Fri, 04 Aug 2017 18:40:00 +0000

A woman identified by her initials SA, has been arrested by the Indonian police in Tarakan on suspicion that she killed her newborn and left the body in a freezer for several months.

The baby’s remains were found inside a freezer at the car wash she worked.

According to the police Chief, Dearystone Supit, SA claimed to have given birth to the child secretly in her bathroom at home, by herself. She also confessed that the baby was born in May.

North Kalimantan police Chief, Irjen Safaruddin said the motive behind SA’s actions was that the legal status of her marriage was not clear.

“The motive is she didn’t want (the baby), she was ashamed because she had already had her first child who was born without any status, no birth certificate. That was her motive at that time,” East Kalimantan Police Chief said.

The suspect was the fourth wife of the owner of the car wash where she worked, a man identified by police as DO.

Polygamy is rare but allowed in Indonesia. However, the stringent requirements for legal polygamy mean such unions are often done unofficially.

According to the police’s account of her testimony, SA said the baby was stillborn. In panic, she wrapped its body up in black plastic and placed it in the freezer in her home. Police said she was afraid it would be found there and so two days later, she moved it to the freezer located at her husband DO’s car wash, where she worked as a cashier. It was only discovered this week by another employee at the car wash.

Authorities have conducted an autopsy on the body but have not yet revealed if there is any evidence that the baby might have been alive when it was born.

In Kano: Northern Youths Meet With Igbos Over Quit Notice

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Fri, 04 Aug 2017 18:38:00 +0000

Northern youths and Igbos are currently holding a peace meeting in Kano.

The meeting follows the quit notice giving to Igbos in the North by Arewa youths in reactions to the agitation for secession in the South East.

Representatives of Igbos in all northern states are at the meeting along with leaders of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF).

President of the AYCF, Yerima Shettima, blamed the quit notice on the activities of Nnamdi Kanu and his supporters.

He said, “It is on record that we have been at peace with Igbos for decades until when this young man (Kanu) came, demanding war, demanding arms. In the struggle, he is a small boy, but we want peace.”

According to the Igbo leaders, both youths have the right to be angry due to the lack of employment in Nigeria.

They, however, warned that both Igbo and Northern youth should avoid trying to fix the country through violence.

“Anyone championing the division of Nigeria will never go anywhere,” the Eze Ndi Igbo, Kano, Boniface Ibekwe, said.

“We cannot allow someone to divide us, even if you are angry, we must find a way to end this, and the sooner we end it the better it becomes for both of us.”

The meeting had started in a tensed atmosphere but improved as discussions progressed.

Man U Fans Mock Man City Over Sale Of Iheanacho

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Fri, 04 Aug 2017 18:34:00 +0000

Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho has been officially sold by Manchester City to Leicester in a deal worth a reported £25million.

Iheanacho has been regarded as one of European football’s brightest young talents after breaking into the City team under Mauricio Pellegrini, and looked like he had the capability of being the long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero.

With his sale, city rivals Manchester United fans did not waste time in trolling the Sky Blues to the heavens about it on Twitter.

Although City reportedly have a buy-back clause inserted into the deal, but what happened to investing and developing in youth? And what happened to him being better than Rashford?

Considering the stick Jose Mourinho sometimes takes in his youth policy, United supporters are loving this opportunity to have a little dig at Pep and Citeh

Super Eagles Coach Makes Final Decision On Enyema

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Fri, 04 Aug 2017 12:32:00 +0000

Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr has stated that he needs a replacement for Goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme just as he revealed that the erstwhile Super Eagles goalie, Vincent Enyeama, has no place in his team.

In an exclusive telephone chat with Sportinglife, Rohr said the selection of a first choice goalkeeper against Indomitable lions of Cameroon would depend on the recommendation of the new Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer.

Rohr: "I want the best for the eagles and my target is to qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup. Cameroon is a very good side and I want the best for the match. I want a goalkeeper with 100% confidence. A keeper that can take charge and control his defence.
“I am also happy that since I joined the camp in Kano, the players have improve their games. I have told them that their getting a jersey would depend how they perform against Benin Republic in a CHAN qualifier billed for next weekend.

He added: “I speak with, Mikel Obi daily and I am happy that he has returned to full training. I monitor other Nigerian players playing in China”.

Zimbabwe: Prostitutes Offer Free Sex On A Thief's Burial

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Fri, 04 Aug 2017 12:28:00 +0000

Commercial sex workers in Mbare district in Zimbabwe have declared a two-day sex galore at the funeral of a notorious thief identified as Masiyas Mesiyas.

According to Harare Metro newspaper, the prostitutes treated mourners at the funeral to free sex in honour of the deceased whom they described as a sex maniac.

Residents say the late Mesiyas, who succumbed to tuberculosis, loved sex and was popular among casual sex workers in the district.

One of the prostitutes who identified herself as Busisiwe said: “Mesiyas was a well-known thief but one of the things we have known him for as sex workers in Mbare is that he loved sex and was our regular client.

“We had no money to contribute in planning the funeral arrangements, but we offered what we know best and male mourners who came for the funeral could get sex for free,”

Mesiyas’ family spokesperson, Brandon Chikukwa, confirmed that mourners at the funeral were being treated to free sex by hookers.

He said: “I have never seen anything like what I witnessed when my uncle died.

“People were celebrating his life in different ways, as they were having sex in cars and at night. People would just go anywhere private and start having sex.

“The service was being offered by the prostitutes for free to everyone who attended, we just hope they were wearing condoms.

“As a family we do not condone what was happening but there was nothing we could do because he was a people’s person. They were doing what they thought was best to pay their last respects to him.”

Evans The Kidnapper Update

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Fri, 04 Aug 2017 12:22:00 +0000

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has explained the reason behind the continued detention of an alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans.

According to Idris, the Police were yet to charge Evans to court because they were still trying to collate necessary ‘facts’ so the, ‘suspect would be given a fair trial.’

Idris said the ‘police deserved credit for the arrest,’ saying that the best they could offer Nigerians was to fish out all the criminal elements like Evans.

The IG spoke during a courtesy visit to The Punch Place, headquarters of Punch Nigeria Limited on Thursday.

Responding to a question about kidnapping and killings by a notorious cult called Badoo, Idris said the police were working on improving security in the coastal areas between Lagos and Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, by acquiring more gunboats for patrol.

He said, “We are trying to improve and enhance how we deal with criminality in the coastal areas, not only Lagos, but from here to Port Harcourt and one of our strategic plans is to better equip our marine police.

“We are trying to acquire more gunboats so that we can be very effective and visible in these coastal areas — somebody will build a school in an isolated bush.

“That is why we said when you are looking at criminality, you have to also look at some factors and try to address those factors as a whole and not always point at the police.

“There is a limit to what we can do; if you go and build your house in the bush, we are talking of personnel, you cannot put policemen in every school. If we do that, we are going to have a problem in addressing other issues.

“There are some basic utilities that a school requires — closed-circuit television cameras. Put some things there to fortify the school. If the location is bad, make sure you fortify the school. You can have a security department; hire more security men on the ground. But nobody looks at some of these factors.”

The IG also noted that more attention should be paid to dealing with delay in criminal trials in courts and factors that push youths into crime.

On the issue of personnel; Idris noted that in reality, “the Nigeria Police Force has about 298,000 policemen and women and I agree with you. You know, it is (like that) all over the world, you have to protect the leadership of the country.

“Even in the US, up till date, when President Donald Trump is going anywhere, some roads have to be blocked and you need policemen to do that, you have to deploy the assets you have to protect the leadership because you know they are the symbols of the country. So, it is not only in Nigeria that if a president is going somewhere, you just (don’t) allow him to go like that. You know we had a bitter experience in the past, when (former military ruler) Murtala Muhammed was assassinated. He stopped at a traffic light and was killed.

“It is natural for any country to accord the leadership that level of maximum protection because whether we like it or not, I am not in your position, I have so many enemies and not made by me, but through my people.”

Harvard To Replace Neymar

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Fri, 04 Aug 2017 11:12:00 +0000

Chelsea forward, Eden Hazard, has reached out to Barcelona about replacing Neymar.

On Thursday, Neymar completed a world-record €222million to Paris Saint-Germain, breaking up the attacking trio he forged with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Don Balon reports that Hazard is now very keen to replace the Brazilian at the Camp Nou.

Hazard is believed to be one of the players Barca is eyeing.

Liverpool playmaker, Philippe Coutinho is a well-documented target, and the Catalans have seen their first bid rejected.

The Catalan club has identified Tottenham’s Dele Alli as another option.

The La Liga giants will likely spend most of their windfall, to prise any of the three Premier League stars from their clubs.

A 5 year old gets Pregnant

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Sat, 29 Jul 2017 21:37:00 +0000

A 5years old girl getting pregnant is almost like a fairy tale or a scene from one typical Nigerian comedy movie, but believe me guys, this no movie scene. Its real and unimaginable. I was moved to tears when I confirmed this story.

She's only 5 years old living with her parents in a remote village somewhere in Jos. Her parents noticed swells in her breast but thought it was early maturity. Early maturity...at 5? Come on! The man who got her pregnant is still unknown. Investigation into the matter is still underway says the police.

What is your take on this issue? How should this situation be handled? Do you blame the parents or the girl? What will you do if it were your sister, daughter, niece or relative?

Please comment below and share to help our campaign against child abuse. Your comments can make a change and prevent a similar situation from happening in the future.

Fresh Troubles For Nnamdi Kanu

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Thu, 27 Jul 2017 13:24:00 +0000

Nri community in Aniocha Local Government Area of Anambra State has threatened to sue Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), for alleged taboo in Nri culture.

Personal Assistant to Eze Obidiegwu Onyesoh, the traditional ruler of Nri community, Chief Ifeanyi Onyesoh, announced the plan to journalists, in Awka, on Thursday.

He said the people were angry over Kanu’s alleged misconduct.

Onyesoh said Kanu with his wife, Uchechi, and supporters visited the palace of Eze Nri, on July 19, and a shrine against the tradition of the people.

He noted Nri ancient Kingdom is the cradle of Igbo civilisation, whose culture is revered in the five southeast states of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Anambra as well as Igbo communities in Delta and Rivers.

Onyesoh said on July 18, a day before Kanu’s visit, 12 young people came to the palace of Eze Nri requesting for an appointment with the traditional ruler for Kanu.

“I was the person that received them and so I told them to go and come back with a written letter so that they will get official reply from the palace since the delegation looked unusual, in that there was no titled person among them.

“At this point they all left and what we saw the next day was Kanu visiting Nri community with a huge crowd of his supporters.

He (Kanu) went straight to the house of one Chief Shadrack Mbanefo, a subject to the traditional ruler of Nri.

“The feelers we later got was that the said Mbanefo claimed he handed over the `Offo Nri ’, (symbol of royalty) to Kanu, and even allowed Kanu to visit the historic “Ohianwehi forest” revered as “forest of life” by Igbo tradition.

“This forest is believed to be the place the first burnt offering was offered by the Jewish Igbo ancestors when they migrated from Israel more than 2,000 years ago,’’ he said.

Onyesoh said Nri people considered Kanu’s conduct as a taboo because no high profile visitor entered the community without first visiting the traditional ruler let alone a sacred place without the knowledge of the ruler.

He expressed regret that Kanu and his supporters after visiting Mbanefo returned to the entrance gate of the palace and tried to force it open.

“It was this unruly conduct that made the traditional ruler to telephone the security agents who responded promptly and dispersed Kanu and his supporters.’’

Onyesoh said the people regarded Kanu’s action as an affront on their values and so resolved not to sweep the matter under the carpet.

“It is a taboo in Nri and equally against the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council Law for a high profile visitor to visit a community without first paying homage to the traditional ruler.

“The people of Nri and her traditional ruler are not against Nnamdi Kanu and his agitation/aspiration but what we cannot take is for Kanu to come and mess up the Nri culture and tradition under whatever motive.

“The community will drag him to customary court to ensure that nobody else gives such insult to the community and its heritage,’’ he said.

Reminded that Kanu visited Nri to receive `Offo Nri title’ like the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and MASSOB leader Chief Ralph Uwazuruike both Biafra agitators, Onyesoh said “if Kanu wants a title, Eze Nri is not aware of such aspiration.

“If Kanu indeed met with anybody and claimed he was given `Offo Nri’, it means he is seeking the title through the back door and for the title he claimed was given to him by `Adama’ (Mbanefo ), a servant to Eze Nri, is a nullity.

“My advice to Kanu is for him to first step up actions to amend his ways to synchronise with the values and culture of Igbo people which he is stampeding in the name of agitation.

“Nri is the ancestral home of all Igbo people and for him to visit Nri in the manner he did means he has no knowledge of Igbo tradition and culture.

‘’So, he must first study Igbo tradition and culture and properly be advised before he misleads himself.’’

Senate Votes To Remove NYSC From Constitution

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Thu, 27 Jul 2017 13:10:00 +0000

The Senate has voted to remove the compulsory National Youth Service Scheme from the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This is good news for many young Nigerians, however it doesn’t mean that NYSC is now not compulsory for university leavers.

It is a first step in allowing the Nigerian lawmakers to amend the NYSC decree. This development comes as many Nigerian youth who are fed up with the non-productive nature of the scheme have been clamouring for its termination.

An overwhelming majority of eighty eight Senators voted for the removal of the NYSC decree from the Constitution, whilst 3 Senators voted against the amendment vote.

The lawmakers were very busy during their session yesterday, July 26th, as they also voted on 32 other constitutional amendments including voting for the reduction of the age at which a Nigerian can run for President and the removal of the land use act from the constitution.

USA Fires At Iran

noreply@blogger.com (Admin) — Wed, 26 Jul 2017 13:34:00 +0000

US Navy patrol boat fired warning shots Tuesday near an Iranian vessel that

American sailors said came dangerously close to them during a tense encounter in the Persian Gulf, the first such incident to happen under President Donald Trump. Iran’s hard-line Revolutionary Guard later blamed the American ship for provoking the situation.

The encounter involving the USS Thunderbolt, a Cyclone-class patrol ship based in Bahrain as part of the US Navy’s 5th Fleet, is the latest confrontation between Iranian vessels and American warships. It comes as Trump already has threatened to renegotiate the nuclear deal struck by his predecessor and after his administration previously put Iran “on notice” over its ballistic missile tests.

The Thunderbolt was taking part in an exercise with American and other coalition vessels in international waters when the Iranian patrol boat approached it, 5th Fleet spokesman Lt. Ian McConnaughey said. The Iranian ship did not respond to radio calls, flares and horn blasts as it came within 150 yards (137 meters) of the Thunderbolt, forcing the U.S. sailors aboard to fire the warning shots, McConnaughey said.
“After the warning shots were fired, the Iranian vessel halted its unsafe approach,” the lieutenant said in a statement, adding that the Iranian vessel created “a risk for collision.” Large ships can’t stop immediately on the water, meaning getting close to each other risks a collision.

Video released by the Navy included a sailor giving a position off the eastern coast of Kuwait as the Iranian vessel sat directly in front of an American warship’s bow. Another video included images of the Iranian ship off the Thunderbolt as its horn blared. The sound of machine gun fire followed.
Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard instead blamed the Thunderbolt for the incident in a statement, saying the American vessel moved toward one of its patrol boats. It said the Thunderbolt fired into the air “with the intention to provoke and create fear.”
Iran and the US frequently have tense naval encounters in the Persian Gulf, nearly all involving the Revolutionary Guard, a separate force from Iran’s military that answers only to the country’s supreme leader. The last one to involve warning shots happened in January near the end of then-President Barack Obama’s term, when the USS Mahan fired shots toward Iranian fast attack boats as they neared the destroyer in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US Navy recorded 35 instances of what it describes as “unsafe and/or unprofessional” interactions with Iranians forces in 2016, compared to 23 in 2015. Some analysts believe the incidents at sea are meant in part to squeeze moderate President Hassan Rouhani’s administration after the 2015 nuclear deal, like hard-liners’ arrests of dual nationals. Of the incidents at sea last year, the worst involved Iranian forces capturing and holding overnight 10 U.S. sailors who strayed into the Islamic Republic’s territorial waters. It became a propaganda coup for Iran’s hard-liners, as Iranian state television repeatedly aired footage of the Americans on their knees, their hands on their heads.
Iranian forces view the American presence in the Gulf as a provocation by itself. They, in turn, have accused the U.S. Navy of unprofessional behavior, especially in the Strait of Hormuz, the mouth of the Persian Gulf through which a third of all oil trade by sea passes.
Meanwhile Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a sanctions package that imposes mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran’s ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them. The measure would apply terrorism sanctions to the Revolutionary Guards and enforce an arms embargo. Democrats said the new sanctions on Iran don’t conflict with the Iran nuclear deal.
