Haridwar: Baba Ramdev began Tuesday in a more forgiving state of mind than he has been ever since the government dismantled his camp in Delhi late on Saturday night. The yoga icon, who has been furious over the last two days, struck a more benign note when he said he "forgave" the Prime Minister and his government.

He made clear, however, that the "forgiveness" was at a personal level. "I forgive the PM and government for atrocities and wrongs done to me...but for destroying democracy, the nation will have to decide."

This Wednesday 15 September at 09:00 CET, the Organising Committee officially began sales of individual tickets for all FIFA Women's World Cup 2011™ matches. Individual tickets are available from just 15 euros for first round matches, with the exception of the opening match, and the match for third place. "We're looking forward to what will be an occasion for the whole family. We won't get another World Cup on home turf for another 40 years," said Steffi Jones.

Of the 700,000 available tickets, over 270,000 have already been sold as 'Venue Specific Tickets' and group tickets. Recent riots in China seems to have shaken the Communist government. According to the police, women wearing long, black Islamic robes and head scarves acted as ringleaders in the July 5 ethnic unrest in western Xinjiang, state media reported Monday.

The top legislator from riot-hit Xinjiang has said that authorities would speed up local legislation against separatism in the western region that has a long-running independence movement by minority Uighurs. China already has a national law against secession, though there are no similar regional laws.

China faced its worst unrest in decades this month when tensions between the dominant Han Chinese and the Turkic-speaking, Muslim Uighurs descended into violence in the regional capital of Urumqi. Nearly 200 people died in the unrest.
Witnesses and surveillance footage captured the presence of young women wearing white, black, and brown robes with head scarves, along with young men in blue T-shirts, involved in the riot, with the women inciting the violence while the men carried it out.

According to reports, the violence began when police in Urumqi intervened at a peaceful protest by Uighurs, who went on a rampage, smashing windows, burning cars and beating Han Chinese. Two days later, vigilante groups of Han took to the streets and attacked Uighurs.

The Chinese government has blamed the July 5 riots on "three forces" — extremism, separatism, and terrorism — both at home and abroad.
Meanwhile terrorist group Al Qaeda is also reportedly planning to take revenge for the riots.

EAST LONDON, South Africa — J.P. Duminy hit 52 not out and fast bowler Zaheer Khan took 3-31 Friday to steer the Mumbai Indians to a nine-run win over the last-place Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Duminy smashed four sixes in 37 balls and helped lift Mumbai from 74-4 in the 12th over to 148-6 at Buffalo Park.

"I thought J.P. set it up for us nicely. If he didn't bat through to the end it would have been different," said Mumbai captain Sachin Tendulkar, who hit 34 off 30 balls.

Mumbai then restricted Kolkata to 139-6, with Khan bowling openers Sourav Ganguly and Chris Gayle in the first three overs.

The left-arm India seamer dismissed Ganguly for 0 on the fourth ball of the innings after the opener hit the ball onto his stumps. Gayle then bottom-edged a slower delivery from Khan 10 balls later, and Kolkata was 8-2.

Kolkata recovered after a third-wicket partnership of 89 between Brad Hodge (73) and Morne van Wyk (32). Hodge blasted five fours and three sixes in 60 balls, while Van Wyk hit three boundaries in 35 balls.

Oil prices rebound in post-Christmas trade

SINGAPORE - World oil prices rebounded in Asian trade on Friday after tumbling to four-year lows before the Christmas break, with economic gloom weighing on the market, analysts said.

New York's main contract, light sweet crude for February delivery, rose 93 cents to 36.28 dollars a barrel after closing down 3.63 dollars at 35.35 in US trade on Wednesday.

Brent North Sea crude for February delivery rose 1.04 dollars to 37.65 dollars. In London the contract settled on Wednesday 3.75 dollars lower at 36.61 dollars, its lowest since July 2004.

After taking a one-day trading break for Christmas, oil reopened higher on Friday partly because of technical factors, said Ken Hasegawa, manager of the energy desk at Newedge Japan brokerage.

"After a sharp drop in sentiment on Wednesday, before the holidays, today (there is) a slight technical rebound," he said from Tokyo.

Another factor boosting prices was the US government's latest weekly report on crude stockpiles in the world's largest energy consumer, Hasegawa said.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) report, released Wednesday, showed US crude inventories sank 3.1 million barrels in the week ending December 19. The drop was far heavier than market expectations.

The EIA added that crude reserves were 9.1 percent higher than at the same stage last year.

Analysts said that recent US data showing that the world's biggest economy remains in a recession were likely to keep crude oil prices under pressure in the immediate term.

A sharp global economic downturn that has slashed the world's demand for energy has led the price of crude oil to collapse by about 75 percent since hitting record highs above 147 dollars per barrel in July.

Oil markets are pricing in a continued decline in economic activity despite efforts by governments around the world to stimulate activity, MF Global energy analyst John Kilduff said.

"The energy markets appear as unappreciative of the stimulus efforts as any of the other markets and the pricing in of doom and glooms are producing price levels that transcends reality," he said.

"Obviously we haven't reached the ultimate end point yet."

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which produces about 40 percent of the world's crude, agreed last week to cut output by 2.2 million barrels per day to shore up the market.

Prices have continued to slide despite OPEC's announcement.

World loves Iraqi shoe-thrower

A Pakistani lawyer has praised the actions of the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at US President George W. Bush at a press conference.

Muntadhar al-Zaidi, an al-Baghdadiya TV correspondent, shocked the world by hurling his shoes at President Bush in Baghdad on Sunday.

Mian Muhibullah Kakakhel said that the action showed how much the international community hates the outgoing US president.

Kakakhel, as a senior advocate to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, also said he is ready to safeguard the shoes.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez had earlier hailed the reporter as a role model for courageousness.

"It's a good thing it didn't hit him. I'm not encouraging throwing shoes at anybody, but really, what courage," said Chavez.

A wealthy Saudi Arabian national has offered $10 million to buy just one of the two famous black dress shoes.

Al-Zaidi is reportedly scheduled to appear before the Iraqi Central Criminal Court on Wednesday.

Educators to state: Make money, your mouth meet

When Florida lawmakers say they care about the state’s children, the president of the state school superintendents association has a quick reply:

“You lie.”

That kind of bold talk is needed, said association president Joe Joyner, in a state that pays the least in the country for its students’ education.

He was speaking Thursday at a meeting of school superintendents, school board members and other education leaders from across Florida. The Tampa gathering was called, in part, to come up with ways to deal with budget woes — or at least prevent them from getting worse next school year.

For starters, the educators said, the state needs to relax its mandates. That’s timely, for Florida is scheduled to implement the strictest phase of its class-size reduction law next school year.

Also in the works: a requirement to provide for physical education time for middle school students and the creation of district-run virtual schools -- online classes for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

“The district is at the edge of a cliff,” Broward schools Superintendent Jim Notter said. “Allow me to spend the meager dollars that I have on my needs.”

But it’s going to take more than educators and lobbyists to get the message across to Tallahassee: Parents and businesses are going to be recruited to the cause. Some have already signed up.

Colleen Wood, of St. Johns County in northeast Florida, created a group called 50th No More — refering to Florida’s rank on student spending compared to other states.

‘Angry moms’

“What’s going to change the state of education in Florida is angry moms. Who’s going to say every child doesn’t deserve a quality education?” Wood told a group of people hoping to channel her energy. “My husband calls us the Mommy Mafia.”

She and other education advocates acknowledge that the state’s shrinking budget means there is not likely to be any additional investment in public schools. But it still should be legislators’ top priority this spring.

“They need to recognize education as the paramount priority, whatever size the pie is,” Wood said.

School districts are expecting to lose even more money when legislators reconvene in the spring to write next year’s budget. One budget director said school districts should prepare for budgets that would provide about the same as they received for the 2005-06 school year. Additional cuts could come sooner.

Those cuts will be on top of what they’ve already lost over the last 18 months.

No good option

“To go beyond these cuts will be really tragic and dramatic for Miami-Dade,” Carvalho said.

But compared to districts elsewhere in the state, the decisions so far to save money in South Florida have not had a direct effect on students.

In Polk County, for example, teachers were ordered to teach an additional class a day — and take a pay cut for doing so.

In Orange and Santa Rosa counties, districts rearranged school hours, inconveniencing parents and causing a huge uproar, in order to avoid hiring additional bus drivers and buying buses.

Some districts have closed schools. Several districts are save on energy costs by eliminating work days when school is out, forcing employees to take the time off, even if it means unpaid leave.

“I’m willing to tighten my belt,” Joyner said. But, he said, in a state that pays the least per student of any in the country for education, he’s doing it because legislators are making a conscious choice. Read More from: bradenton.com
