Overview of the Workshop

Growing concerns about increased food safety issues are the driving forces that motivate the food industry in quest of an advanced and effective food product management strategy. Due to its close ties with human health, it is of paramount importance for the food industry to adopt an advanced food product management system to perform up to the standards and minimized safety related issues, delivering foods of highest possible quality. With a good system, the industry can not only satisfy clients, but also gain a sharp edge in the international competition due to the quality assurance.

This course is designed for food production plant managers, production supervisors and quality control managers. The course material provides advanced level food safety technical and operational information on HACCP implementation, foodborne pathogens, global food safety standards, food recall management and equivalency requirements for importing food in the United States.

Attending this course will keep you current on global food safety standards and trends, with a special emphasis on HACCP plan development and implementation. At the end of the course, the attendee shall walk away with a comprehensive understanding of how to effectively operate food product management system within their organization, from food product evaluation, risk management, safety monitor to crisis response.

Facilitator Profile

The course facilitator has over 40 years experience working with all types of food production and retail companies and government regulatory and procurement agencies both within the United States and internationally including the South Carolina Meat-Poultry Inspection Department.

He served over 40 years in food safety internationally with an earlier emphasis in food safety and food defense from the processing plants through storage and distribution to the military consumers. His duty assignments included 7 years at Headquarters, U.S. Army Health Services Command where he was responsible for developing food safety/quality assurance policies and procedures used by 800 food inspectors at 800 military installations and 2000 commercial meat, poultry, water-food and dairy plants and bakeries.

He also served as Chief of the Quality Assurance Division of Headquarters, Defense Personnel Support Center. His division was responsible for developing and implementing food safety and quality assurance standards for over four billion dollars of food processed, stored and distributed annually for the Armed Forces throughout the world.

Prior to joining the HCG, he was with the South Carolina Meat-Poultry Inspection Department for 16 years, the last 8 years as Director. This state inspection program, which is required to maintain standards at least equal to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, was consistently rated as one of the top state programs in the nation. He was responsible for the regulatory control of over 90 livestock and poultry slaughter and processing plants in South Carolina. He is skilled in the interpretation and implementation of USDA requirements including HACCP, SSOP, humane handling and pathogen reduction regulations.

He has been a guest speaker and trainer in many areas including HACCP Systems Development, Food Plant Sanitation and Foodborne Pathogen Control. He is certified as a Lead Instructor by the International HACCP Alliance. He served on the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture’s Advisory Committee for Meat and Poultry Inspection for 6 years.

Media Prima NSTP Appeal for Humanitarian Aid for Flood Victims in Pakistan

PETALING JAYA, 19 August 2010 - In response to the deadly floods in Pakistan, which has resulted in the significant loss of lives and homes, Malaysia's Media Prima Berhad (Media Prima), the New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad (NSTP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) today initiated a joint appeal to raise funds for humanitarian aid.

The Pakistan Disaster Relief Fund was launched by Datuk Johan Jaaffar, Chairman of Media Prima and Tan Sri Mohamed Jawhar, Chairman of NSTP here today. It was witnessed by His Excellency Mr. Khalid Masood, the High Commissioner for Pakistan in Malaysia and His Excellency Mr. Hans Olsen, UNICEF representative to Malaysia & Special Representative to Brunei.

"The emergency situation in Pakistan is massive and the need for disaster relief is urgent and immediate. Media Prima seeks to alleviate the burden of those affected by the ravaging floods with the launching of this fund,” said Datuk Johan Jaaffar, Chairman of Media Prima Berhad.

“Media Prima, working in partnership with NSTP will play its role in providing the public with updates on the crisis and to raise awareness for the fund. We jointly appeal for generous contributions from the Malaysian public and corporate bodies to the fund, to be channeled to the disaster victims through UNICEF,” added Johan.

The death-toll resulting from the flood has reached 1,600 and is increasing as the torrent continues to hit four of the nation's largest provinces- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Balochistan and Sindh. According to the OCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) report, up to 20 million people are affected by the ravaging flood and up to 6 million children have been affected, while 2.7 million children are in urgent need of aid.

More than 700 schools in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were reportedly damaged by the floods and the damage assessments by the OCHA revealed 89 damaged and 52 destroyed health facilities in the areas affected by floods. (*UNICEF Situation Report: Pakistan)

Those affected are in dire need of humanitarian essentials such as shelter, food and drinking water, medical assistance, hygiene kits and other basic necessities. Contributions made by the public will be channeled to Pakistan to bolster existing relief efforts to provide for sustenance and reconstruction of lives at the affected areas.

Swiss Design in Hollywood retraces the work and impact of Swiss artists in the areas of design and digital imagery in international film production as well as in video games.

The cinema industry is one of the most important cultural contributors of the modern era.

Contrary to popular belief, a number of Swiss artists have worked successfully over the years in the conception of films or games, creating characters, fantastic creatures and scenery.

Today, many of these artists are working on some of the most publicly-recognised projects (including animated films) and are leaving an enduring mark on popular culture, although their contribution is largely unknown.

Swiss Design in Hollywood gives an historical perspective on little known or underrated artistic techniques and practices. The exhibition also aims to emphasise the personal influence of particular Swiss designers and illustrators – whether they work independently or for the big special effects studios – on the aesthetics of film and video game production, without overlooking their personal creations.

TCF 2009 @ 1 Utama is expected to attract numerous visitors from around Klang Valley area in this two day event.

It is the perfect platform for your company to recruit jobseekers that will be looking for full time jobs, part time jobs or even internship placement.

Companies are also invited to showcase their latest products and services given that this Trade and Career Fair coincides with the Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival 2009.
