After a full day of recovery from the New Year Party on the first of January that ended with a very nice and yummy fondue (cheese, beef and of course Colombian chocolate) Paola (a Colombian friend of mine from the states who is visiting her family in Bogota) and I went on a trip to the old city of Bogota.

We took the standard means of transport in Bogota the Transmilenio which I really like because it is fast, clean and only costs 1500 Pesos no matter how far you go. At time it gets a bit crowded but nothing you wouldn’t see in any other Public transport system.

We first walked by Paola’s old University and just when it started to rain we walked by the Fernando Botero Museum and decided to go in. I really like his sculptures – not so much the pictures and the museum had some other nice art pieces as well.

We then went to the main Square of Bogota where a Palestinian demonstration against the upcoming invasion took place. I just had read the news the night before – not sure why since I managed to stay away from the news for a couple of weeks – and I regretted it immediately since this conflict just makes me feel sick!

And there I am at the other end of the world running into a Palestinian demonstration?!? The whole thing would have been funny (check out the paper F16s) if the reason wouldn’t be so sad and the demonstrators face not filled with so much hate. (I personally think both parties need a lot more blood spilled until they finally realize that this (be it rockets on Israel or F16s over Gaza) is not the way to handle the conflict.)

After taking the obligatory pictures on the square we went to a little museum at the corner of it that houses the vase that started Colombians struggle for independence. We had a nice Columbia dinner followed by desert and went on to one of Paola’s favorite squares where students hang out and had a finial beer before we called it day and started to go home.

On our way back Paola saw a little store with traditional Colombian stuff and art work and the like where Paola bought a music instrument for the Mad-Sweet Pangs and I was ‘forced’ to dress up as a shaman by the shop owner – I’m sure you can guess which picture that is…

Track with pictures – pictures are as well on my pictures page in higher resolution:

First my apologizes that it took me so long to write another post and that I still didn’t upload any pictures of my travels so far!

If been traveling so far for a month and everything is going extremely smooth – almost to smooth and easy…

If done a lot more things than I did expect – one of the many reasons why there are not more posts and still no pictures

After returning back to Cartagena from the sailing trip to Panama I stayed two more nights in Cartagena to take some pictures and get a long overdue hair cut. I traveled with to fellow sailors – Jess from Australia and Lionel from France to Taganga a small fishing town just minutes outside of Santa Marta. I wanted to start my diving course there but I was missing a second diving buddy to get two additional free dives – so I waited and enjoyed the life in that little beautiful beach village…

After four days and still no dive buddy in sight I decided to go on a six day hike through the Colombian jungle to visit the Ciudad Perdida (Lost City) which was amazing – even if it resulted in Christmas in the middle of the jungle with no beer or other alcoholic drinks to be found for miles….

On the trip I met jet another Swiss Guy who became my dive buddy in Taganga where I stayed before I flew out to visit my friend Paolo and her Family in Bogota.

We just had our new years dinner which was very jummy (Turkey and Salad with fruits in it) – it’s 11:45 and I’ll need to hit the publish button – otherwise the last post this year will become the first in the New Year!

All the best to you in your new Year where ever you are and what ever your plans and goals are!

So far I absolutely LOVE Colombia – very great and friendly people (and good looking too) – so far I didn’t get ripped off and everyone is very helpful!

I managed to get my camera tripod repaired for 5000 pesos (2.5$) and it is now even more functional than it was before since I now can disassemble it into 3 pieces.

I spend a night in a hammock on the Playa Blanca – beautiful beach outside of Cartagena – pictures and track to follow.

I’m in a rush because I’m going on a 10+ days sailing trip from Cartagena to Panama with a couple of days at the San Blas Islands – which means that you wont hear from me for 12 days or so. So pleas do NOT panic

All is good here – I’m having the time of my life!

I have no idea why we needed to try it a second time – weather was just fine and not a lot of wind… oh well you get what you pay for – 280$ isn’t that much….

But my new bought Tripod got destroyed during the flight – bummer!!! I’ll see if I can get it fixed again ;(

Cartagena is a beautifull City – everyhting (waether buildings people and smells) remind me a bit of the Domanican Republic.

I´ll go out with the camera and tracker tomorrow – decided to stay on the save side for my first day

I’m finally one my way!

I started Saturday Noon with a 30 minute car ride to Wilmington with two very very good friends of mine.
From there I took famous China Bus (GoToBus.com) to New York City for 20$ which took a bit longer than expected due to the holiday traffic I guess.

Anyhow I arrived in NYC at 4:30 – 5PM and jumped off at Macy’s – got my self a last NYC Hot Dog and Pretzel and took a Subway one stop towards up town to get onto the 7 line till Junction Blvd.

From there I took a bus (Q74 ?) to the La Gurdia Airport where I arrived at 6:30.

I spend my time till my 9 o’clock flight with getting something for dinner and bought a new smaller English – Spanish Dictionary ( Just for my friend Paola – she’s really worried about my ability to communicate with her fellow country men )

The Spirit flight was short as usal for me as I tend to sleep on Airplanes like a little baby – as soon as I’m on board I get tired – and normally fall asleep during take off – which as well happened today.

I’m writing this now from the Fort Lauderdale airport where I’ll spend my night to take a 10 AM flight to Cartagena in Colombia!

Here’s the GPS track – I had it on all the time – not sure why it didn’t work all the way (I guess haveing it in my back in a bus doesn’t make things easier for it – will see if I can get it to work in the plane tomorrow):
