Critic Score Digitally Downloaded Fans of the original King Arthur title from Paradox (and hopefully there are a lot of you out there), rest assured Paradox have done this sequel right. Those who weren’t able to get into the previous game, take a second look at this one – the tweaks are just enough that it’s worth a second chance. Pollution and overpopulation had ravaged the planet, forcing humanity to the stars. Colonies and settlements soon sprung up across the solar system, but man had not left its thirst for war behind. Then, they learned their sun was dying, and everything changed. Only when faced with threat greater than each other did the nations of man finally come together. The United Colonies of SOL (UCS) was born, its first and only mission: to locate a new home for mankind, safely beyond the doomed borders of our solar system. Suit up and take on the role of the Lieutenant Commander, ace fighter pilot and 2nd in command of the UCS Atlas, as you search for a new home, battle a mysterious enemy, and rescue humanity from a fiery end. Critic Score MMGN A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, gamers once flocked to the Space Combat genre is droves. These epic, challenging and complex titles were amongst the highest selling titles of their era, firmly stating their importance during what is often cited as the golden age of PC gaming. Alongside the point and click adventure genre, Space Combat fell by the wayside towards the end of the 90's, and has remained rather dormant over the years. Seamless Entertainment, and indie studio based in Austin, Texas could have just opened up the flood gates with SOL: Exodus - their attempt to bring the Space Combat genre back from the dead. Read Full Review 80/100 BagOfGames Sol Exodus is a diamond in the rough. It doesn’t try to simulate an entire galaxy of barren worlds or force you to learn about things like trade routes or remember the market price of Unobtainium. What it does do is space combat and manages to do it well while including a nice seletion of mechanics that simplifies but also diversifies the experience. Read Full Review 76/100 IncGamers ...aside from The Wreckless, Sol: Exodus is the only game attempting to take us back to the straightforward space-dogfight action of titles like X-Wing, or Wing Commander. Read Full Review 70/100 IGN The look of hope and excitement I saw in the face of the developers of Sol: Exodus was infectious at PAX Prime 2011. Like so many indie games, the demo wasn't impersonal or delivered by a well-coached PR person, but the head of the studio, someone with a deep personal investment in the project. I listened intently as he detailed how he hoped Sol would be the return of the genre in a big way, a chance for a new generation of people to experience the joy of battling in space. The tiny slice of content looked promising, I walked away from the demo ready to play the next big space combat shooter. Unfortunately, I’d be lying though my teeth. The heyday of classics like TIE Fighter and Wing Commander was a little bit before my time. Instead, I had the sad privilege of watching the space combat motif die a slow and painful death at the hands of cigar smokin’ marines and other such more accessible topics. At the beginning of the game, the craft is bombed by a group of fanatical terrorists known as the Malthusians - named after political economist Thomas Malthus who predicted that population growth would one day outpace agricultural production, returning society to a subsistent level of existence. The Malthusians have a plan to murder the vast majority of humans on the planet, so that the survivors wouldn't suffer from the effects of the population explosion. Their slogans, including "Save the World - Kill Yourself", are written on the walls and displayed on computer screens all over the ship. Kate Wilson, the protagonist, is a systems engineer who becomes a reluctant hero when the Malthusians attack and take over the Queen. Critic Score ZTGD It’s not unheard of to see a game ported from one platform to the next, nor is it uncommon to see a period of years pass between platform appearances. What is rare is to see a developer take a game back to the drawing board before allowing the game to be reintroduced. Hydrophobia was originally released during Microsoft’s Game Feast in September 2010, envisioned to be the first chapter in a trilogy. Unfortunately for Dark Energy, Hydrophobia’s developer, the game met with criticisms from critics and average gamers alike. Many remarked at the high quality of the game’s water effects, but griped about unimpressive voice acting, repetitive combat, and floaty controls. ' Read Full Review 78/100 BeefJack '“You need to find a water source,” the helpful voice in your ear tells you in one unintentionally ironic moment of Hydrophobia Prophecy. The previous hour has been spent ankle, knee, waist and neck deep in H2O as protagonist Kate Wilson has waded and swum through the flooded halls and rooms of hijacked ocean liner The Queen of the World.' Read Full Review 62/100 EvilGamerZ The physics on this game are done very well, the water reacts to it’s surroundings and the physics objects are realistically weighted, both of these are good aspects of the game and this is where those good aspects sort of end. The voice acting on this game is dreadful, now I know the developers didn’t have the biggest budget of all time but seriously the voice acting in this game makes you want to beat yourself to death with your keyboard, it really is bad. Read Full Review 60/100 FTG "In what seems like a millennia ago, I spent the majority of my time in a business of antiquated venture called a video rental store. Between helping people with their rentals, I would run across some films of questionable worth as I totaled them out. When you work in any sort of movie retail market you learn that with every big movie release comes a wave of lesser known films trying to cash in on the subject matter." Read Full Review 40/100 Eurogamer "Hydrophobia Prophecy is one of the best terrible games I've played in ages. I mean it. At the bad games awards (imagine a town hall in Croydon, the audience full of sniffling, coughing hopefuls) Hydrophobia would win everything from Most Ambitious Game to Most Impressive Technology That Was Not Used At All. On the one hand, it's kind of a tragedy. On the other hand, it's unforgivable. The developers performed the impressive feat of screwing up almost everything." Playable from both the Axis and Soviet perspective, it strives to recreate the strategy, the forces involved and the general tension of that crucial period in World War II. Experience the highly fluid, enormously large battles of maneuver in a turn-based strategy setting. Take command in this mobile, back-and-forth sort of war where logistics and poor weather are often the decider, and defeat and victory are sometimes just a mile, or a day, apart. Critic Score Digitally Downloaded When niche publishing specialist, Matrix Games, took on the rights to Unity of Command (UoC), it was becoming apparent anybody lucky enough to be involved with this fantastic game had uncovered a diamond in the rough. Read Full Review 100/100 Gamedot It is in this that the games true brilliance is revealed – it is a war game which requires the player keep an eye on the bigger picture at all times; that forces you to use every man at your disposal in order to secure victory, not allowing you to coast on the successes of your most elite units. It manages to create an authentic, challenging game without ever falling back on overwhelming complexity or opaque rules to up the difficulty. Unstoppable Gorg challenges you to defend the solar system from fearsome aliens by sending satellites into orbit. Unlike other tower defense games, in Unstoppable Gorg you can move your towers by rotating the orbits that surround planets, moons and space stations. Unstoppable Gorg is a lovingly crafted homage to vintage sci-fi films from the 1950s. Flying saucers, rubbery aliens, dodgy effects, it's got it all. The game's story scenes were shot on film using models, miniatures and live action actors and then edited together with genuine archive footage to create a classic sci-fi experience that is out of this world. Critic Score Ironhammers Futuremark are mostly known for their benchmarking software. 3DMark has been used for many years as gamers and enthusiasts put their rigs to the test. It left no doubt that they could produce some stunning visuals, so when they put together Futuremark Games Studio and released the zero-gravity shooter back in 2010, Shattered Horizon, I couldn’t wait to see what they did. Read Full Review 80/100 eGamer As an entirely revolution of the genre, well as long as you're defending something with towers it's hardly revolutionary. But as tower defences go, Unstoppable Gorg is a fast paced and thoroughly enjoyable game. It's cinematics are a real treat, you'll enjoy them. Read Full Review 80/100 MEG "Unstoppable Gorgs is a surprisingly satisfying game to play, thanks to its quirky presentation and smart use of satellite placement. While it certainly requires a bit more skill to master than a traditional tower defense game, it has a smooth learning curve and eases into the difficulty by level 6, so you have plenty of time to learn the ropes and which satellites to use. The team have put together an addictive and fun game, and it’s definitely worth a look at." Read Full Review 80/100 HonestGamers "Unstoppable Gorg is a tower defense game with a twist. That’s a claim that any PR person might make about any new offering within the genre. In this case, though, it’s an especially apt description because the twist is this: you twist things." Read Full Review 70/100 Strategy Informer "Did you know that PopCap’s phenomenal tower defence title Plants Vs Zombies was originally going to be titled ‘Lawn of the Dead’? A swift no-no from the Romero estate curtailed that, but I have to wonder if the game would’ve been as popular as it is now if it had that title instead. Plants Vs Zombies is catchy, intriguing, memorable, and makes you want to play it just to find out what it’s about. Futuremark’s Unstoppable Gorg could really have done with a title like that. Even an exclamation mark would’ve made it 80% more tantalizing". (Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion) is a first-person puzzle game that challenges players to navigate each level by manipulating coloured cubes that surround them. There's little to go on as the game begins - the player is dropped into an all-white room with few instructions, and simply has to figure their way out. The tone of game changes as the player finds small and big alterations to their environment, supported by an original score, inviting each player to let their imagination take over as to where they might be. Through experimentation and discovery, players will progress through an ever-evolving series of cube puzzles that will challenge them with logic, physics, platforming. Critic Score IGM The white and clean walls, the first person view, the puzzle rooms; is this not Portal? Toxic Games’ debut environmental puzzler may bear many resemblances to the Aperture Science Labs, but it has its own ideas and atmosphere. That does not shake away the comparison though and so Q.U.B.E. has a lot to live up to. Read Full Review 83/100 GameZebo Let me just get this out of the way since the comparison is inevitable: The first person puzzle game Q.U.B.E. will immediately remind you of Portal. They’re both set in stark environments with ambient sounds and a severe sense of isolation, all while you’re making your way through a facility with a series of tests to challenge your sense of problem solving. While Q.U.B.E. might not be the classic that Portal turned out to be, it still holds its own. Read Full Review 80/100 VelocityGamer Everyone knows of Portal, but Q.U.B.E. is a kind of sidestep to those games. Adopting a similar vein of first person puzzler, it does away with the wormholes for a tamer concept of movement and solution. A low cost downloadable offering, the game is worthy of a purchase by anyone that enjoyed Portal Read Full Review 80/100 Nave360 I’m glad I came across this game, because despite it’s shortness, it definitely gave my brain a great workout. There were some puzzles that had me figuring them out for up to half an hour. If you think Portal was hard, wait until you get a load of Q.U.B.E. I look forward to seeing where Toxic goes next with this game, or indeed some of their next work. It’s good to see more developers creating some rather fascinating games. I also think this game would sell well if it was ported to the Xbox 360 and PS3… here’s hoping Toxic are also working on that too! Read Full Review 80/100 Nowgamer However these niggles are well worth overlooking, as Q.U.B.E is a fine puzzler that deserves to overcome the ‘Portal-clone’ jibes that’ll doubtless be thrown at it. It’s challenging, yet oddly accessible and addictive. You’d be a blockhead to dismiss it. Read Full Review 80/100 Pure, Unadulterated Cognition Q.U.B.E or Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion is a first-person puzzle game that takes a player through an unknown environment where the location is only revealed once the game is completed. Players must solve logic and physics based puzzles utilising their gloves and the environment, which is filled with coloured cubes that must be manipulated to progress through each sector or room. Depending on how high your inductive reasoning aptitude (ability to solve puzzles) is, you could spend anything from 10 to 14 hours to complete the game. Read Full Review 76/100 IGN Q.U.B.E. offers some short-term fun for puzzle fans and not a lot else. With so little emphasis put on story I can’t help but feel that Q.U.B.E. may have benefitted from having no story elements at all, instead of loosely hinting at some bigger picture that goes unseen. A few sloppy physics-based puzzles and a short-lasting gimmick put a small dent in the enjoyment of many other block-puzzles, but a consistent and striking visual style keeps things interesting. See you play again, what is there to discover and then play it as much as you feel like. So hopefully come back and finish it at some point to open the final. The game is an experience that is relaxed and ambient atmosphere that are focused on creating peace instead of intense gameplay. This is like an interactive poetry. A poem that has some edge and allows you to explore different scenarios. It is important that you take the time and let the game feel as you play it. Critic Score GamingBolt Star Sky from swedish developer Mården Jonsson is a strange beast indeed. It isn’t a game as such; there are vitually no challenges so it is more of an “experience”. It stands out amid the crowd of titles available on the AppStore – and for that alone Skar Sky should be praised. It is immensely refreshing to see this sort of experimentation, and in some ways it embodies all that is good about indie games. Critic Score GDN I remember when I was a boy that there was nothing I liked better than going to the arcade. With just a couple dollars worth of quarters in my pocket and a Slim-Jim in my hand, I was set for an afternoon of fun. Walking through the door and hearing all the beeps and boops, I could barely contain my excitement. I immediately sprinted past Mortal Kombat, Primal Rage, and Cruising USA. The first game on my list was always Area 51. There was something about holding the toy gun and blowing the alien scum to bits. It was the first experience that I remember where I wasn’t just controlling a character on a screen, but I was the character. All Zombies Must Die! drops up to four players into the town of Deadhill, where they must blast their way through ranks of brain hungry monsters with a variety of weaponry while completing quests served up by the game's insane storyline. Savvy survivors will utilize a combination of the surrounding environment and improvised weaponry to aid in their fight against an unrelenting army of terrifying, yet funny, zombies. As they progress, players will unlock new weapons, new characters and new arenas as well as the ability to customize both their characters and weapons. Critic Score JPS Zombie games are just as abundant as FPS games in the video game industry these days. Some are very good, while others not so good. Nevertheless, most of them involve you killing lots of zombies in a variety of different ways. All Zombies Must Die! is no different and is a game zombie fans shouldn’t be disappointed with.
