Good Morning,

We hope that you will help support the parish youth who will be participating in the Cardboard Charity Campout next weekend by donating blankets, flashlights and personal hygiene items they will be using to simulate being homeless. Toothpaste and toothbrushes are being donated, but travel-size toiletries such as soap, deodorant, shampoo, sunscreen, along with small bottles of water and granola bars would be welcome. Donations can be left in the box outside the Parish Offices - contact Becky Culver if you have any questions or for additional information.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered this Saturday from 3-3:30, with Fr. Jack Caldwell as the celebrant.

Please complete and return your 2017 Stewardship Form - it can be mailed, placed in the collection basket or dropped in the Mail Slot outside the Parish Offices, in the envelope addressed to Fr. Dale marked "Confidential." We thank those of you who have already responded.

The Knights of Columbus invite you to their Fish Dinner this evening from 5-7:00 PM, and to their monthly Chicken Dinner on Sunday from Noon until 2:00PM. Your support is appreciated - proceeds help fund their charitable work.

Parishioner Jan Kehne spoke with Bryce Nall last Friday. He was in good spirits and will be in rehab another 2-4 weeks. Bryce said he has made great progress with his therapy and does have some minor sensation in his legs. The doctors will not say if this will continue to improve and that only time will tell. He asked that we continue to pray for him.

And on the Feast of St. Patrick: May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Latin Mass in New Haven on December 8th

Fr. Matthew Hardesty will be celebrating a Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form (the traditional Latin Mass) on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Thursday evening, December 8th, 2016 at 7pm at Saint Catherine of Alexandria Church in New Haven, KY. (174 N. Main St., New Haven, KY 40051).

Father Hardesty and the choir will be chanting many parts of the Mass. Worship aids with Latin and English will be available. As is our tradition, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is Holy Day of Obligation.

Good Morning,

Plan to attend the annual Holiday Bazaar this Saturday, from 9-3, in the Parish Hall. It features over 20 booths with a variety of hand-crafted items along with baked goods. You can also purchase snacks and a light lunch. This event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, who also invite you to attend their monthly chicken dinner on Sunday.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered on Saturday from 3-3:30 with Fr. Dale Cieslik as the celebrant.

Please keep in your prayers the parish youth and their leader, Laura Zoeller, who will be attending the Quest retreat on Saturday, along with hundreds of other youth from the Archdiocese.

Good Morning,

Those who ordered the 2017 Daily Prayer Book should see me to pick up your copy. The fee of $9.00 can be paid in cash, or by check made payable to the parish.

Liturgical Ministers are asked to indicate your availability for the upcoming Holy Day Masses so the December schedule can be prepared. The sign-up sheet is on the table near the loft stairs and we ask that you fill it out this weekend.

Please join us after Mass on Saturday for appetizers and good company - the inspiring CSA video will be shown.

Please remember in your prayers the family of Mr. Carmine Campanella, who passed away October 30th. His wife, Ruth Ellen, is related to the families of parishioners Ann Lindle Simpson and Nina Lawson. Deacon Gerry Mattingly will be the celebrant at Mr. Campanella's funeral tomorrow at 2:30 PM at Hall Taylor Funeral Home in Taylorsville. Visitation begins at 1PM. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.

Lastly, we pray for blessings on all those who have served our country in the armed forces, on today, Veteran's Day. We ask for, echoing St. John Paul II, an end to wars and the dawning of a new era of peace, as a way to honor all the veterans of past wars.

OBITUARY FOR CARMINE CAMPANELLA

Carmine Campanella, 70, of Taylorsville, died on Sunday, the 30th day of October, 2016, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A native of Francavilla al Mare, Italy, he was the son and the youngest of seven children of the late Franco and Assunta Torelli Campanella. A member of the Catholic Church, he was a former police officer, having retired from the Ponte Milvio Police Department in Rome. He was a resident of Spencer County for over thirteen years, and he enjoyed farming and raising a small herd of cattle. Painting landscapes and other subjects was one of his favorite hobbies.

His survivors include his wife, Ruth Ellen Anglin Campanella of Taylorsville; his son, Matteo "Matt" Campanella, of Richmond, Virginia; his brother, Nicola Campanella of Francavilla al Mare, Italy; his sisters, Liberata Anzellotti, Flavia Anzellotti, and Antonietta Papponetti, all of Francavilla al Mare, Italy.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, the 12th day of November, 2016, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Taylorsville, with Deacon Gerry Mattingly officiating. Interment will be in the Cimitero di Francavilla in Francavilla al Mare, Italy. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M., until 2:30 P.M., Saturday, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Taylorsville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the charity of the donor's choice.

May Carmine enjoy eternal rest and joy in the Kingdom, and peace and comfort for his family and friends.

We pray, Thee O Almighty and Eternal God! Who through Jesus Christ hast revealed Thy glory to all nations, to preserve the works of Thy mercy, that Thy Church, being spread through the whole world, may continue with unchanging faith in the confession of Thy Name.

We pray Thee, who alone art good and holy, to endow with heavenly knowledge, sincere zeal, and sanctity of life, our chief bishop, Pope Francis, the Vicar of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the government of his Church; our own bishop, Joseph E. Kurtz, our own pastor, Father Dale Cieslik, all other bishops, prelates, and pastors of the Church; and especially those who are appointed to exercise amongst us the functions of the holy ministry, and conduct Thy people into the ways of salvation.

We pray Thee O God of might, wisdom, and justice! Through whom authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment decreed, assist with Thy Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to Thy people over whom he presides; by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion; by a faithful execution of the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality. Let the light of Thy divine wisdom direct the deliberations of Congress, and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and government, so that they may tend to the preservation of peace, the promotion of national happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety, and useful knowledge; and may perpetuate to us the blessing of equal liberty.

For your Election Day viewing and listening pleasure, two priests of the Diocese of Rockford, Illinois, and their bishop are the stars of a new video making the rounds on the internet that parodies the “Carpool Karaoke” segments made famous by James Corden’s “The Late Late Show” on CBS.

According to the Rockford Register Star, the video was unveiled a couple of Sunday's ago at an annual youth summit in the diocese attended by 1,700 teens. Father Keith Romke and Father Kyle Manno pretend they’re driving to the summit. Halfway there they pick up their “boss,” Bishop David Malloy, to give him a ride. You gotta see this!

I hope this brings you a few laughs at the end of this Election Season 2016!

Homily 32nd Sunday OT: Are You Prepared For The Journey?

Luke 20:27-38

There's a legend about a master and servant. It seems the servant wasn’t very smart The master would get very exasperated with him. Finally, one day, in a fit of temper, the master said, “You're really the stupidest man I know. Here, I want you to carry this staff wherever you go. And if you ever meet a person stupider than yourself... give them the staff.”

So time went by, the servant would encounter some pretty stupid people. But he never found someone stupid enough to give the staff to. Years later, he returned to his master's home. The master said, “I see you haven’t found anyone stupid to give that staff to”.

After a while the master said, I am very sick “I'm going on a journey soon.” A journey from which I won’t return,” The servant asked, “Have you made all the necessary arrangements?” “No, I guess I haven’t.” “Well, could you have made all the arrangements?” “Oh yes, I've had time. I've had all my life. But I've been busy with other things.” The servant said, “Let me be sure about this. You're going on a journey from which you will never return You've had all your life to make the arrangements, but you haven't.” The master said, “Yes, I guess that's right.” The servant replied, “Master, take this staff. At last, I have truly found a man stupider than myself.”

Maybe that’s just a story, but it reflects the way many people treat death. Everyone knows that it’s going to happen people just don't want to think or talk about it's impact on them personally. Like the man in the story, too many people know they are going on this journey… but don’t prepare for it.

On the other hand, all of us would like to know what happens when we die. Behind all of this interest in death there's a deep down feeling that there is more…something beyond this life. There's curiosity… There's the desire to want to believe that our purpose is more than our years here on earth.

Some people believe that we will be reincarnated… hopefully into a higher living being each time. Others say that everyone's born with an immortal soul, regardless who the person is, that soul will rest in peace forever in paradise. Then there's those, like the Sadducees in today's gospel, who simply say that when you die, that's it... there's nothing else beyond your last breath.

Jesus' reply in today’s gospel affirms beyond all doubt that there is a resurrection and that there is life after death. That we can’t take what we experience in this life and project those experiences into the new life in heaven. Heaven's way beyond anything we experience here. One new day, we will awake to a day beyond all other days by the love of God. All trouble, all doubts, all fears, all pain will be gone. We will become “like angels” by “the God of the living”. We are raised to a joy and peace beyond anything that mortal minds can conceive.

When that happens, the words of this homily will seem trivial, and even the visions of heaven in the Bible will seem an inadequate description of the real thing. Now we see dimly... then we shall see with absolute clarity.

Acts of Mercy: A Drama Mission a dramatic performance over three nights, classic stories of our faith, highlighting the theme of God’s mercy, featuring selections from the Gospel of John, the Gospel of Luke and the Letter of James.

"At times we are called to gaze even more attentively on mercy so that we may become a more effective sign of the Father's action in our lives." -- Pope Francis (Our Sunday Visitor)

As the Year of Mercy closes and we begin our Advent journey, Nazareth Retreat Center, Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral, St. Francis Xavier and St. Gabriel’s invites all to Acts of Mercy: A Drama Mission. Frank Runyeon, of Runyeon Productions, has performed the gospel for hundreds of thousands of people in almost every state in America, earning rave reviews from critics, scholars, and church leaders. He has performed on over 1000 television shows and is a graduate of Princeton University with a degree in Religion, and continued his studies at Yale Divinity School and General Theological Seminary earning a Masters. He workshopped his first productions in cooperation with the faculty of Holy Cross College and the University of Dayton. He is regularly reviewed as “the best speaker we have ever heard” by students and faculty at private and public schools across the nation.

On Sunday, December 4th at 2 p.m., Frank will perform Luke: Stories of Mercy at the St. Vincent DePaul Chapel on the Nazareth Campus in Bardstown. He will enact the famous stories from Luke’s travel narrative interwoven with stories from his own life to help us hear these parables as stories about our lives here and now. The theme is of God’s Mercy found in Jesus through the Prodigal Son and the Good Samaritan. Performing at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown that evening at 7 p.m., Frank will take a humorous but also deeply challenging look at the story we are actually living. The struggles we face daily as Americans to live lives of real joy in the middle of a media-centered culture as he presents Hollywood vs. Faith.

On Monday evening, December 5th at 7 p.m., Mr. Runyeon will perform John: Signs of Mercy at St. Francis Xavier in Mount Washington. This night will proclaim what God has done in the life of Jesus as He has shown mercy to mankind! Signs features scenes from the first 11 chapters of the Gospel of John, ending in the raising of Lazarus. It is a powerful performance by candlelight.

On Tuesday evening December 6th at 7 p.m., James: Works of Mercy will be dramatized at St. Gabriel’s in Fern Creek. This dramatization is set outside Caesarea in an early house-church filled with characters, after the stoning of Stephen. James calls the people of his church to become a People of Mercy who “do the Work of God,” and know the joy of living in God’s love.

Patti Grubb is scheduled for hip replacement surgery tomorrow, Thursday, September 29th at Baptist East Hospital. Please pray for Patti, her family and her surgical team.

We remind you that this is the last weekend to donate single-serving non-perishable food for the Backpack Buddy program - please leave the food in the box provided in the back of church. We are also in need of disposable diapers for the Community Baby Shower to be held next week. Several packages have been donated already, but it appears we are short of what was given last year. Please drop the diapers off in the boxes outside the Parish Offices no later than next Wednesday, October 5th. Your generosity is appreciated.

We are collecting single-serve, non-perishable food to donate to the Spencer County Public Schools' Backpack Buddy program - please consider bringing a donation this weekend and leave it in the collection box in church.
We are also collecting packages of disposable diapers that will be given away at the Community Baby Shower on October 6th. The boxes for diapers are outside the Parish Offices
Sign-ups continue for those who plan to attend the Mother Teresa movie scheduled for October 9th. Food and beverages will be provided by the members of the Respect Life committee. Sign-up sheets are on each table in the back of church.

We ask you to pray for Rosemary Steva, mother of former parishioner Marilyn Stop, who has recently been hospitalized and is being admitted to a facility for rehab. Mrs. Steva moved with the Stop family to North Carolina in May.
