Having oily skin can be really tricky especially when applying makeup, because makeup smudges off really quickly, especially here in our country, most Filipina women have oily skin. So here some helpful ways how to make makeup last on oily skin!

1. Prep!

After cleansing and toning, I recommend to use pure aloe vera gel as a matte moisturizer, you can use any aloe vera gel, choose ones that are clear and has no other unnecessary ingredients added. Try Jorubi Aloe Vera Gel, you can get this at Watson's.

There's also a ton of aloe vera products at Forever Living Products.

Aloe vera rebalances oily skin, its actually good for all skin types even those with Normal to Dry Skin. Once the aloe is absorbed apply a makeup spray to to hold makeup in place, there is a ton of makeup sprays to choose from, I love using Mac's Fix Plus and Model in a Bottle.

But again that totally depends what your skin is more accustomed in using. Please do not use hairspray, it will irritate the skin leading to more serious acne problems.

2. Prime

Something that most women here don't know about. Primers make your makeup last longer. If you put sunscreen or moisturizer let it sit for about 5 minutes and then apply your primer and then let it sit again for 5 minutes before applying foundation so it would not smear. Choose primers that are mattifying.

For this, I use Tarte Clean Slate Poreless 12-Hour Perfecting Primer. There are a lot of mattifying primers, you just have to choose ones that are mattifying.

3. Go OIL-FREE We have this tendency to put thicker foundations if we want makeup to last the entire day, if you do this, it will only clog up the pores and you will have to deal with acne sooner. Choose foundations that are OIL-FREE actually...choose makeup that is oil-free, read the ingredients if they have oil in them even if they claim to be 'oil-free'.

For this, I use and recommend Laura Mercier Oil Free Supreme Foundation:

4. Powder Up!

Of course! But it might sound crazy, but you have to lessen on the powder...

Why?

Too much powder will make your pores produce more oil, and you will look cakey and fake if you powder on a lot. Never use baby powder, it does not control, it clogs your pores and it looks cakey. You can still apply powder on your face but focus more on areas that tends to get oily fast (e.g. T-ZONE of your face) For this I use my all time favorite Mac's Blot Powder, some other favorites are Tarte Smooth Operator Micronized Clay Finishing Powder or sometimes the Urban Decay De-Slick Mattifying Powder but I have a love-hate relationship with these two. hehe.

5. BLOT

After applying everything on your face, ofcourse you want to go ahead and blot with a blotting paper, I don't necessarily have a go to blotting paper, but what I found out is that the toilet seat covers does the job like a blotting paper would! Sounds crazy, but it works! Also, after blotting I apply powder just to even out the make up because sometimes when I am heavy handed the blotting paper kinda smears away the makeup. 6. Waterproof It!

For the eyes, its hard to take waterproof mascaras and eyeliners but it stays all day, I tend to get oily eyelids and have nasty creases so I use an eye primer underneath, cream eyeshadows tends to smear away a lot faster, but some would say it stays on better, for me still, it has to be in powder form, the eye primer and the powder tends to grab on to each other better. So again, its waterproof mascara, eyeliner and an awesome eyelid primer.

7. Keep it Clean!

Keeping your skin clean helps eliminate and controls the production of oil. Look for a product that will deep clean your skin in order to draw out oil and impurities. Do this once or twice a week and don't take skin care for granted. I honestly can't suggest any products for this because every person has a unique type of skin, what works for me might not work for you, but I will post what I currently use to pamper my skin and keep the oil at bay.

I hope that these tips help in maintaining your makeup in place for hours, just remember that, it doesn't take one product to achieve this, its a routine.

CULT PRODUCT OF THE WEEK #1: NARS BLUSH

You've all seen my Clueless Filipina episodes...and now here's another fun one. It's my CULT PRODUCT of the WEEK! First of all, let me just say that any product that goes into my CULT PRODUCT OF THE WEEK are the ones that have stood the test of time and has never gone out of style. Others that make my cut would probably be the ones that have been the hype or the go to product of most women despite many other brands out there.

I wanted to start this with a bang, and now...the HOLY GRAIL of all that is BLUSH. The Nars Blushes.

I'll just get straight to the point here, NARS ORGASM. The most UNIVERSALLY FLATTERING SHADE for all WOMEN on earth. I used to say that this blush was overhyped, but it really is the BLUSH for all women. I posted NARS BLUSH because there are other blush shades that NARS carry which are also universally flattering, so I am going to show you my swatch on that:

NARS carry 28 blush shades, I just posted this top 8 (aside from it being my only nars blushes) because for me I think, these are probably the ones most talked about.

Other Blush shades: Seduction, Sin, Amour, Desire, Dolce Vita, Douceur, Exhibit, A Gaiety, Gilda, Gina, Liberte, Lovejoy, Madly, Nico, Oasis, Outlaw, Sex Appeal, Silvana, Taos, and Zen.

As you can tell, virtually all of the nars blushes are gorgeous. Orgasm obviously is a nice peach blush with some gold shimmer (not glitter), and Super orgasm is just the same only I could now say has glitter. Deep Throat would probably rank second in my most-flattering-nars-blush-list because again this is a nice peach blush but looks flawless since its sheer. Angelika is just a pretty shade of pink with some hints of silver and not just gold shimmer (not glitter) but I can look a little washed out if you have medium-dark skin (on my opinion). Torrid by fair is my third one, I love coral looking blushes, this one has hints of gold shimmer, Mata Hari is a strong pink color with I guess a little...just a little hint of purple, and Crazed, which is discontinued is a nice raspberry color with some gold shimmer. Luster would probably look awesome as a Bronzer, I'm actually not so sure about this one because its like a cross between a brown and an apricot kind of color, but I like it since its sheer.I would probably get Sin, Amour, Dolce Vita, and Douceur NEXT.

All of the colors are actually flattering but it just depends on the tools you use to apply this or the weight on how you would apply it (e.g. if heavy/light). All in all, NARS blushes still is the cult blush and continues to be a cult blush for women.

HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR VANITY

Hey everyone!

Since last year I have talked about having my room renovated, I wanted a walk-in closet and a makeup area that is functional and I can maintain 'clutter free'. I have also picked up a lot of things from other beauty bloggers how they organize their vanity, and I just wanted to share with you guys tips on how to keep it all tidy and functional. The picture above is my ideal set-up.

#1 DE-CLUTTER

If you already have an existing vanity, and there is just too much products that you don't know where to put things in, the best way is to take everything out, this will help you have a 'fresh start' and that way you can sort it by:

Make up that you use daily
Back-ups
Make up that you need to throw away or put away. - Remember makeup expires too.

#2 RULE OF 6 Vanity table, chair, drawers, mirror, containers, and trash bin. (That's 6) Vanity Table - Make sure that when you buy a vanity table its something that will maximize your space as well as gives you easy accessibility to things that you need. A rule of thumb "EVERYDAY MAKEUP ITEMS ARE STORED IN YOUR VANITY TABLE DRAWER".

Vanity Chair - to choose chairs that are well cushioned and the ones with a back rest as to prevent lower back pain.

Drawers - What ever type of drawer you use, make sure that you categorize it according to their use (e.g. face drawer, eye drawer etc.) For this, I will use the ALEX CHEST DRAWER from IKEA as an example:

1st Drawer: Primers, bases, tinted moisturizers, lotions etc. (anything to prep my skin)
2nd Drawer: Foundations and Concealers
3rd Drawer: Blushes (creams, powders, tints etc.)
4th Drawer: Various powders (bronzers, highighters, MSFs)
5th Drawer: Various SMALL palettes
6th Drawer: Eyeshadow bases, mascaras, eye pencils, paint pots, shade sticks, brow products, gel liners etc.
7th Drawer: Various Lip products: Lipstick, Lipglosses, Lip balms etc.
8th Drawer: Bigger Palettes
9th Drawer: samples, brush belts, makeu tools, false eyelashes etc.

*Additional drawers, you can put bigger items like lotions, hair products, hair tools etc.

Containers, Dividers, Holders etc. - For this one, I mainly get acrylic dividers for my vanity so that I can be able to organize everything inside the drawers. For the containers, I have an acrylic drawer on top of my vanity which I put all of the more expensive ones that I have (e.g. Muji or Clear Cube, but you can find dupes, they are everywhere! I also have with me an acrylic lipstick organizer and brush holder. For the brush holder I prefer the rotating ones unfortunately I was not able to find it, but more popularly, any nice looking coer and you put clear beads in them. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND MISS BELLA, she's on FACEBOOK!

Mirror - In the illustration above, I situated the table right in front of the window, I just wanted more natural light. This is such an interesting topic, because this is one of the "main" makeup mistakes Filipinas fall for. Blush is like the ultimate makeup for girls, and yes, we do need to learn what type of blushes is appropriate for our skin types (especially asian skin) and what colors are most flattering.

CHOOSING YOUR BLUSH TYPE

There are a a lot of different blush types out there, gels, creams, tints/stains, powders etc. Choosing what type of blush is probably the hardest part (for me at least) a girl could face! (well second to choosing a foundation).

1. Powder Blush

Every girls first experience with blush would obviously be a powder blush, its very long wearing and great for all skin types. This type of blush would definitely benefit those with oily skin, since its very thick.
