HTC Explorer With Android Gingerbread Available Now At Clove UK

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Mon, 31 Oct 2011 14:46:00 +0000

Announced last month as HTC's most affordable Android smartphone, the HTC Explorer is now available in UK, where retailer Clove is offering it unlocked.

The Explorer costs $307, and comes with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, Sense UI 3.5, a 3.2 inch HVGA display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, SRS sound enhancement, 3MP camera, 512MB of RAM, 600MHz Qualcomm processor, and MicroSD card support.
You can go here at Clove to buy the HTC Explorer.
The Explorer will also be sold by Vodafone and Three in the UK, obviously for free on select plans (although we do not know when exactly the two networks will launch the smartphone).

Samsung C3330 Champ 2 Coming Soon With Affordable Price

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Sat, 29 Oct 2011 07:10:00 +0000

Samsung is readying a successor to the very affordable Champ, which was the cheapest touchscreen phone in the company's portfolio when it launched last year. The C3330 Champ 2 is probably going to stay true to its predecessor's roots and keep the same main selling points - chief among them, the price.

The Samsung Champ 2 will have to model number C3330 and will come with slightly upgraded specs compared to the original Champ. It will have a 2.4-inch 240x320 touchscreen with stylus support, a 2MP camera, Bluetooth 3.0, a music player, support for IM and Samsung's ChatON group messaging service, an FM radio, a 3.5 mm headset jack, microSD card support, and a 1,000 mAh battery. The Champ 2 will come with Samsung's app store preinstalled.
That's all the information we have for now, but its safe to assume that the Champ 2 will hit the streets (mostly in developing markets) pretty soon for a price similar to that of its predecessor. We will let you know when that happens.

Samsung Focus S And Focus Flash Get A Release Date And Price

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Sat, 29 Oct 2011 07:00:00 +0000

In case you liked the Windows Phone 7.5 running duo of Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash from last week's live shots, we have some good news for you. AT&T announced the upcoming availability and pricing of the two smartphones on its Facebook page today.

As you can see above, the two devices will hit the shelves on November 6. The better equipped Focus S will set you back $199.99, while the entry-level Focus Flash will cost $49.99. Both prices will require a two-year commitment with AT&T.
While the price of the Focus S is hardly a surprise, the Samsung Focus Flash looks like a serious bargain for the fifty bucks you will spend on it. It may not have a Super AMOLED screen or an 8MP camera on board, but the rest of its specs are very much in line with what its bigger brother has to offer.

Motorola RAZR To Join The Galaxy Nexus And HTC Sensation XL On O2 UK In November

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Fri, 28 Oct 2011 17:10:00 +0000

O2 UK is getting ready to introduce two other high end Android smartphones, in addition to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (we already told you that the new Nexus was headed to O2). The other upcoming smartphones are the Motorola RAZR and the HTC Sensation XL.

Unlike the Galaxy Nexus, which will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the Motorola RAZR and HTC Sensation XL are going to be released with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board. However, they should be both updated to ICS after lunch.
There are no exact launch dates given for any of the three new handsets - O2's coming soon webpage just mentions they are all going to be out sometime in November.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich Not Coming To The LG Optimus 2X

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Fri, 28 Oct 2011 17:01:00 +0000

Released back in February with Android 2.2 Froyo on board, the LG Optimus 2X will reportedly not get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. At least that's what LG recently said via its official Facebook account.

As you probably already know, LG did not even manage to update the handset to Android 2.3 Gingerbread in all markets until now, so not offering ICS for it should not come as a big surprise. Its still disappointing, though.
LG did not mention why it would not bring Android 4.0 to the Optimus 2X. I do not think it's a hardware limitation issue, as the smartphone has a dual-core processor, and 521 MB of RAM.
Since the Optimus 2X will not get to taste Ice Cream Sandwich, I assume LG's other older Android models - like the Optimus 3D and Optimus Black - will not get the update either. But that's unconfirmed for now, of course.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Will Available On November 17 In Europe

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Fri, 28 Oct 2011 10:24:00 +0000

Ever since the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was announced last week, we, like you, have been dying to know when exactly it will be in stores and over the past few days, we have heard many different thinks about this, especially with regard to the UK. First it looked like November 16 would be the magic date, but then November 10 became an option too. So its clear that people were confused.

That changes now, since Samsung has thankfully decided to put an end to all the speculation and officially announce that the Galaxy Nexus will become available in Europe (and, specifically, the UK) starting on November 17. Amazon UK has updated its product listing for the Galaxy Nexus to show just that.
So mark that date in your calendar. In case you were wondering, November 17 is exactly three weeks from now. We know waiting will be tough, but hey, its just three weeks. After which you will be able to play with Google's latest pure Android smartphone.
No word yet on when Verizon plans on launching the Galaxy Nexus. Hopefully it will decide to release on phone sooner than its going to go on sale elsewhere in the world, but we will have to wait and see.

Plum HTC Evo 3D Now Available At Amazon For $49.99

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Fri, 28 Oct 2011 10:13:00 +0000

HTC seems to think that plum is the new black. After launching the HTC Rhyme for Verizon in plum, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer has now made a plum version of the HTC Evo 3D for Sprint available.

If you would like your next device not to be white or black like 99.9% of smartphones currently out there, then you should know that Amazon is currently selling the plum Evo 3D.
But that's not all. The retailer was not content with just launching a new color scheme for the superphone, it had to come with a price cut too. So the plum Evo 3D can be yours if you agree to part with just $49.99. Yes, you will need to sign a new two year contract with Sprint, but that's pretty much a given if you need low prices regardless of where you get your gear from.
Expect the color, this is the exact same Evo 3D we all know and love (or think it's gimmicky). If you are interested in adding a bit of color to your life, Amazon is waiting for your order.
The HTC Evo 3D has a 4.3-inch 540x960 3D capacitive touchscreen, a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, a 5 MP camera capable of recording 3D pictures and videos and 1080p HD 2D videos, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage space, microSD card support, 4G WiMax, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 1,730 mAh battery. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Acer Quietly Announces The Windows Phone Running Allegro

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Fri, 28 Oct 2011 10:00:00 +0000

In the quietest fashion, Acer announced the Windows Phone 7.5 running Allegro handset. The company's first device running Microsoft's mobile OS aims (as always) for a piece of the mid range market.

In terms of specs, you get a 1GHz single core Qualcomm CPU and 8GB of built-in storage. The screen is a 3.6" LCD unit with WVGA resolution. A 5MP camera with LED flash can be found on the back of the device. The usual connectivity suite is on board. The Allegro is powered by a 1300 mAh battery. Its measures stand at 116 x 59 x 13mm, and its weight is 126 grams.

The smartphone will hit the shelves in France mid-November in the above shown color schemes. In case you are intested, it will cost you 299 Euro.

Siri Ported To The Original iPad, Does Not Work Properly Just Yet

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Mon, 24 Oct 2011 17:11:00 +0000

After Siri was successfully brought to the iPhone 4, now another talented developer managed to introduce Siri to a larger home, a jailbroken iPad 1.

Unfortunately, just like in the iPhone 4 case, Siri does not feel quite at home on the iPad for now. The voice-guided software launches, but it does not respond back when you talk to it, as it needs to communicate with the Apple's servers to get its lines and that has not been enabled yet.
Still, you can rest assured that hard-working developers are working on it and that usually leads to a happy ending. Or at least for those that have jailbroken iOS devices.

Nokia 5800 And 5530 Get New Features Via Software Update

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Mon, 24 Oct 2011 07:45:00 +0000

Well here's some good news if you own one of two older Symbian^1 devices. The Nokia 5800 and 5530 did not and will not get updated to Symbian Anna (or Belle for that matter), so the situation for these phones can look kind of bleak. Yet it is not entirely so, for Nokia has been working on porting some of the aspects of the Anna update to Symbian^1 and they have now finally made it to the 5800 and 5530.

It's now been almost three years since the Nokia 5800 started shipping, and its great to see Nokia still support this device. Granted, it was probably its best selling touchscreen phone before the N8, but three years is a lot in the mobile world and the manufacturer could have just chosen to forget about the 5800.
But it did not. Therefore software version 60.0.003 is now rolling out for the 5800. the software version on its way to the 5530 is 40.0.003, but these are essentially identical in functionality, so we will only mention the changes they bring once.

Both phones will now have the Symbian Anna browser (version 7.3.1.33), Nokia Maps 3.06, support for international domain names, support for non-ASCII characters such as Arabic or Chinese, and a better overall browsing experience.
As usual, it may take a while for the updates to become available in your region, and that's especially true if your phone came carrier-branded. Like all Nokia updates, these will reach your phone over-the-air, and you do not need to use a computer to install them if you do not want to.

iPhone 4S Pre-Orders Start In 22 More Countries Ahead Of October 28 Release Date

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Sun, 23 Oct 2011 22:14:00 +0000

The iPhone 4S is already available to buy in 7 countries, and its been like that since its official release date of 14 October. These countries are the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, Germany, UK and the France.

And now the iPhone 4S can be pre-ordered in 22 additional territories, where it will be released on 28 October, which is next Friday. These 22 countries are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Norway, Singapore, Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and Sweden.
If you are in one of these countries and it does not have an online Apple store, you should contact your local Apple distributor or your carrier of choice as you may be able to place a pre-order there.
The international Apple online stores all seem to report shipping times of 1 to 2 weeks at the moment, which is not exactly in line with the date when the iPhone 4S will be available in stores. Still, if you do not like (literally) waiting in line, pre-ordering is probably your safest best.

Unlocked Nokia E7 Available At Amazon For Just $404

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Fri, 16 Sep 2011 12:48:00 +0000

The Nokia E7, arguably the company's last Symbian flagship device, has been available in the US since April, although how well it has sold so far is anyone's guess. Ours is that whoever buys one of these in the States is either a die-hard Symbian fan, only buys stuff based on looks, or simply likes to collect novelties.

That said, if you are interested in picking up an unlocked Nokia E7 in the US, listen up. Amazon has just made the device significantly cheaper than it was before. In fact, the E7 launched in the US having a recommended price of $679 and has been sold by Amazon for $649 so far.
Not anymore though. The Nokia E7 can now be yours if you agree to shell out just $404 for the silver version, or (strangely) $404.99 for the blue one. They are both in stock at Amazon, and sold by the retailer itself. Free shipping is also thrown in.
That's clearly a more reasonable price for the Symbian-based smartphone, yet we are still not sure how many people will buy it on the new price per features ratio alone. Still, if you want to get one, go to Amazon and place an order for either the silver or the blue model now.

Samsung Premium Apps Store For Android Devices Launches

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Fri, 16 Sep 2011 12:40:00 +0000

Samsung announced yet another exclusive service for their Android smartphones. The Korean company has launched Premium Samsung Apps, which is the second Samsung app store for Android.

However, unlike the regular Samsung Apps repository, Premium Samsung Apps will also offer paid applications. So far, Samsung Apps only offered a small number of free applications (though admittedly their quality was usually good), but now that Samsung is also offering paid apps things will change and more variety should be available.
At first Samsung plans to only accept credit cards for app purchases, but carrier billing is said to come very soon. Samsung said that the Premium Apps Store will be available in the UK and other countries, but did not provide a list for those countries.
Of course, the need for another App Store on Android is rather questionable - there seem to be too many of those already, but then again, competition usually leads to progress and no one is forcing you to use it, so why not.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Roadmap Talks Of 2.5 GHz Quad-Core CPUs

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Fri, 16 Sep 2011 12:33:00 +0000

Qualcomm has just revealed its Snapdragon roadmap, showing us the chipsets that we should be looking forward this year and things are looking pretty exciting. Apparently, we are just a few months away from mobile chipsets with 2.5GHz quad-core CPUs.

The S4 class of the Snapdragon family, which will be used in next-generation devices, will be using 28nm architecture for much better power-efficiency than the current crop of mobile chipsets. It will offer single-core, dual-core, and quad-core processors clocked all the way up to 2.5GHz plus a new GPU.
So far, Adreno GPUs have not won many battles on the mobile front, but Qualcomm will obviously try and change that. They next Adreno will be using new architecture and will have either two or four cores. So the top model of the next Snapdragon generation should have 8 processing cores - four for the CPU and four for the GPU - amazing right?
Finally, Qualcomm will also make sure that it's not lagging behind in terms of network radios and it will be equipping its next gen chipsets with 3G and LTE antennas. With the LTE network coverage expected to rapidly expand over the next couple of years we can not see anyone being shocked about that.

Sprint Announces The Samsung Transform Ultra For Boost Mobile, Available On 7 October For $229.99

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Fri, 16 Sep 2011 07:23:00 +0000

Sprint's no-contract brand, Boost Mobile, has added a new Android-powered smartphone to its roster today. The Samsung Transform Ultra apparently "complements the existing Samsung Galaxy Prevail", which has, in just four months since its launch, become the best-selling no-contract smartphone in Samsung's history.

Boost Mobile obviously hopes the Transform Ultra will do just as well and judging by its price per features ratio, that does not seem impossible at all.
The Samsung Transform Ultra is a midrange offering that comes with a full physical side-sliding QWERTY keyboard. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 1 GHz processor, a 3 MP camera, a secondary front-facing VGA camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and microSD card support.
The Samsung Transform Ultra will become available on 7 October for $229.99 (excluding taxes) at Boost Mobile Stores, Boost Mobile partners, and online. In fact, a placeholder page is already up on Boost Mobile's website showcasing the Transform Ultra.
Following in Sprint's footsteps, and most notably in those of the Samsung Transform which is probably the predecessor of the Transform Ultra, Boost Mobile will offer 'mobile ID packs' for the Transform Ultra. These include apps, widgets, ringtones, and wallpapers, and can be quickly changes with a few taps.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Now Up For Pre-Order At Best Buy, Priced From $469.99

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Fri, 16 Sep 2011 06:57:00 +0000

Almost six full months after it was announced, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 still is not available to buy anywhere. But it does now feel like there's some progress being made towards this tablet's release. In the US of A, Best Buy has started taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Tab 10.1's smaller sibling.

Unfortunately the retailer does not list any prospective launch date, so it's still anyone's guess if we will see this tablet in stores and in consumers' hands this year or not. By the way things are going, we expect Samsung to announce its successor before the 'original' 8.9 tablet has started shipping. On wait, that already happened.
Anyway, Best Buy was not all unhelpful, for it did give us the first semi-official pricing information for the Galaxy Tab 8.9. So, the 16 GB version is set to retail for $469.99, and the 32 GB tablet will set you back $599.99. These are both Wi-Fi only devices, and there's no word on when (or if) a 3G-enabled variant of the 8.9 will hit the USA.
If 10-inch tablets are just a bit too big for you, then you are probably very anxious for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 to launch already. So you should probably go ahead and head over to Best Buy to pre-order one. Even if, truth be told, you may not have it in your possession in the near future. We will keep you posted.

HTC Bliss To Be Called HTC Rhyme, Press Shots Leak

noreply@blogger.com (Raina) — Thu, 15 Sep 2011 11:02:00 +0000

The HTC Rhyme has leaked through some press images on German site HTCInside. If you are wondering what this HTC Rhyme is then it is none other than the phone that we knew so far as the HTC Bliss. The press shot is likely off the international version due to the Sense showing the weather in Singapore.

Yes, the HTC Bliss, which was expected to be targeted at women, but that may not be the case anymore. It seems HTC may have changed the target demographic of the device at the eleventh hour, with the change of name and a more universal silver and blue color schemes being adopted instead of the sea green on the Bliss. But these changes could just be limited to a particular market.
Again, this could just be an international version and the American version could be the green color we are expecting. This photo also confirms that the device will have HTC Sense 3.5. Something else interesting to note is the 20th September date on the phone, which may indicate a potential launch date for the Bliss.
The 20th September launch date would make sense since HTC is also having a major press event that same day. We will keep you updated on the status of the HTC Bliss or Rhyme as more info becomes available.
