Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort is an uniquely themed resort located right in the heart of Walt Disney World. Both its location and its fun atmosphere make this resort an ideal place to spend some time even if you do not plan on staying there – a fact which this review and video hopes to explore.

[There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.]

The Boardwalk Inn Resort is themed to an early 20th century Atlantic City and includes Coney Island style amusement options to complete the boardwalk atmosphere. This deluxe level resort is located across Crescent Lake from Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

Together, all three can be found between the Epcot and the Hollywood Studios theme parks. In fact, you can easily walk by the resorts as you meander from one park to the next, if you so desire. If not, consider taking the water taxis which operate between the two theme parks and which also make stops at the resorts.

There are three pools located at the resort for the enjoyment of guests. The Luna Park Pool features the 200-foot-long Keister Coaster water slide. For a more relaxing time, consider one of 2 quiet pools.

Also offered for recreation is an arcade, watercraft and bike rentals. Those looking from some exercise options can use the trail for a jog or find the exercise room.

Shopping options include the Screen Door General Store or the Dundy’s Sundries. Both offer merchandise which should pique your interest or fulfill your basic needs.

Dining options are even more aplenty. The Flying Fish Cafe offers signature dining with New American Cuisine. Or try Kouzzina by Cat Cora® for her unique dining experience. There is also Big River Grille & Brewing Works, BoardWalk Bakery, Seashore Sweets, the Pizza Window and let’s not forget the ESPN Club.

Truly, it should not be hard for everyone in your group to find something special to do or eat at the Boardwalk Inn Resort.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort is a unique African-themed deluxe level resort of Walt Disney World. The Animal Kingdom Lodge offers a more intimate encounter with nature than other Disney Resorts and is located near Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.

[There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.]

The Animal Kingdom Lodge opened for operation on April 16, 2001. This was just three years after the associated theme park first started operating nearby.

The proximity of the two are not by chance. Disney Imagineers wanted to create a resort with ties to the theme park and in doing so created both a unique resort as well as unique opportunities for those that stay or visit there.

Perhaps at the top of that list of unique opportunities are the four savannas created adjacent to the lodge. These savannas may host a multitude of exotic creatures. Among them, according to Disney are:

“Ankole Cattle, Bontebok, Eland, Zebra, Greater Kudu, Impala, Okapi, Red River Hog, Nyala, Reticulated Giraffe, Roan Antelope, Sable Antelope, Thompson’s Gazelle, Waterbuck, White-Bearded Wildebeest, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Blue Crane, East African Crowned Crane, Greater Flamingo, Marabou Stork, Ostrich, Pink-Backed Pelican, Spur Winged Geese, Guinea Fowl and Ruppel’s Griffon Vulture.”

These savannas can be viewed from several public locations of the lodge, or even from select room balconies for those that are staying there.

Once you have taken your fill of the animal experiences offered, there is also plenty of other things to do. Consider some time in the community hall or let the kids play on the Hakuna Matata Playground. Take a bike ride, jog on the lush trails or swim in the uniquely themed pools. Or spend some time in the arcade or watching an outdoor movie at night.

You will not go hungry at the Animal Kingdom Lodge either – consider Boma for a buffet-style meal or Sanaa for some of their slow-cooked specialties. Jiko offers signature dining while The Mara offers more casual fare.

Even if you are not staying at the resort, it is worth your time to check out!

Offered below are the Operating Park Hours Schedule for both Disneyland and California Adventure for the month of February 2012. These hours will be useful for anyone planning a trip to Disneyland Resort in February 2012 like those thinking of going during President’s Day weekend.

For a lot of the month, February can be a great time to visit Disneyland Resort owing to the relatively smaller crowd levels. These smaller crowds typically give guests a chance to do more as the wait times on attractions are usually less. Also, things like parades and fireworks are easier to attend as you will not need to queue up as early to get your favorite spots.

There are really only two major downsides to going to the park in February 2012. First, the weather can be a bit cooler because it is still during the winter months. Second, the weekend of President’s Day (February 20th) can get quite busy as California locals take advantage of the three-day weekend.

Recent special offers available at Disneyland Resort can be found by visiting the most recent Special Offers post here on All Things Mouse. There just might be a good deal there that you can’t afford to pass up!

Of special note, the 29th of February offers the extended park hours of opening at 6AM and remaining open until the following 6AM for Disneyland. This is part of the “One More Disney Day” promotion announced on New Year’s Eve.

Morning Magic Hours for Disneyland are offered on the calendar below. Those unfamiliar with Morning Magic Hours may have heard of Disney World’s similar Extra Magic Hours. However, unlike Disney World, the MMH at Disneyland are offered only on select mornings and never in the evening. Additional details of MMH include:

MMH is only offered at Disneyland – California Adventure does not participate in the offering.

MMH only occurs on select days, typically Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

MMH is available with select tickets and packages, but not necessarily tied to a room reservation. For instance, guests buying a 3,4 or 5-day park hopper from the Disneyland website are usually offered one admission to the Morning Magic Hour.

Those staying on-property at one of the Disneyland Resorts (Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian or Paradise Pier) usually get entrance to any MMH just by showing their room card.

Valid park admission for the day is required to utilize the MMH option.

Only certain Disneyland attractions are open for MMH.

for more details – see the Disneyland website.

Special event times can be found on Disneyland’s website or on the park maps available when you enter the park.

If you are interested in the Park Hours for other months or for those of Walt Disney World, we have them available on the All Things Mouse Park Hours page!

The Walt Disney World Resort Operating Park Hours are now available for August 2012. These operating hours for August will help those planning a trip to Disney World this summer.

Shown in the calendar of operating hours below are the times the four theme parks of Disney World will be open for the month. The four theme parks include Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

August can be a great time to visit Walt Disney World. True the weather can provide some very hot days and it is not uncommon for rain to roll through, but as kids start heading back to school the park crowds can become noticeably lighter. This means less time in line waiting for attractions.

While not shown in the calendar below, the hours for the two Disney World water parks are also known for August 2012. Both Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach will operate from 9 AM until 8 PM from August 1, 2012 through August 11, 2012. The hours will then change on the 12th so that both parks will be open from 9 AM until 7 PM through the 18th. Then from the 19th through the 25th, they will be open from 9AM until 6PM. Finally, August 26th through August 31st, they will be operating from 10 AM through 5PM.

The calendar below also offers Extra Magic Hours. EMH are extra hours the parks are open for qualified guests. Typically, these guests are those staying at one of the many resorts of Disney World.

To find Park Hours for other months, see the All Things Mouse Disney Park Hours page. Disneyland Hours are also available there.

Earlier this week, on January 8, 2012, the Disney Fantasy was floated out of its enclosed dock building. The fourth and newest member of the Disney Cruise Lines fleet is now undergoing sea trials before being delivered to Disney Cruise Line officials next month.

[There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.]

The Float Out ceremony was attended by many including Captain Mickey Mouse. Not surprising, Disney added to the event with the inclusion of fireworks to mark the occasion.

Over the last few weeks, last minute touches were being added to the Fantasy. An example of which includes the addition of the stern characters of Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Timothy the Mouse. Disney has different stern characters on all of its cruise ships which not only help to differentiate them but also add to the overall Disney experience.

This flout out for the Fantasy occurred just over a year after the float out of its sister ship, the Disney Dream. The Dream arrived at its home port of Port Canaveral on January 4, 2011 and has since been offering regularly scheduled Bahamian cruises.

After sea trials, the Fantasy will be turned over to the Disney Cruise Lines where a christening ceremony is expected to be held in New York City on February 28th. It will then head to Port Canaveral for its own schedule of passenger cruises.

The Disney Cruise Lines touts the newest cruise ship with this on its website:

“Building on the classic style of her sister ship, the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy™ is the regal fourth cruise liner in the expanding Disney Cruise Line fleet. Featuring 14 towering decks, a ship length of 1,115 feet and a maximum width of 125 feet, the 130,000-ton vessel includes 1,250 staterooms and has the capacity to comfortably accommodate 4,000 passengers—along with the over 1450 Cast and Crew Members who tend to the needs of every cruise Guest each and every day.

Building on the classic style of the previous ships, the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder and the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy is a majestic sailing vessel where early 20th-century design—recalling the golden age of cruising—meets state-of-the-art technology. As can be expected from Disney, the cruise liner was specially designed with families in mind, combining sleek style and convenient facilities with splashes of Disney magic.”

Reservations for a cruise on the Disney Fantasy or any of the other Disney Cruise Line ships may be made via your travel agent of directly with Disney Cruise Lines.

Test Track, the high-speed thrill ride experience located in Epcot of Walt Disney World, will be re-imagineered following a sponsorship renewal announced last week by Disney and General Motors. Plans unveiled along with the sponsorship announcement call for the ride to be centered around the concept of auto design for the GM flagship brand Chevrolet.

[There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.]

Currently, Test Track riders are treated to a multitude of automotive testing displays as they wander through the queue area of the ride. From there, they view a short informational and entertaining video informing them that they will be riding in a test vehicle. Then, it is time to buckle up as guests are led into those test vehicles where they are subjected to several vehicle assessments ranging from handling to environmental factors before heading out on the open track for a loop around the building at up to 65 MPH.

Apparently, the re-imagineered ride will leave the current vehicle ride much as it is. The changes will come in the queue area before the actual ride begins. At the “Chevrolet Design Center at Epcot,”guests will find concept cars and model vehicles and will themselves “become” automotive designers at interactive work stations.

“We are excited to renew our long-term alliance with General Motors,” said George Aguel, Senior Vice President, Corporate Alliances for the Walt Disney Company. “This unique agreement extends collaboration between two of the most recognized brands in the world, a relationship that spans over 30 years. The re-imagined Test Track Presented by Chevrolet will continue our shared goal of providing unique and innovative experiences that engage Disney guests in exciting and interactive ways.” “

“As a global brand, Chevrolet is looking forward to welcoming Guests from around the world to the re-imagined Test Track,” said Joel Ewanick, Global Chief Marketing Officer for General Motors. “The best of Disney and the best of Chevrolet will come together to bring Guests an immersive experience in the design process of the vehicles they see on the road today and will see in the future.”

According to Disney, Test Track will close down in late April for the changes. Current plans call for the new ride to be up and running by the fall of 2012.

Those watching Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest on ABC were the first to officially hear about Disney’s plans to have two parks open for twenty-four hours on Leap Day! Beginning at 6AM on February 29, 2012, both the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World and Disneyland will be open for twenty-four hours straight. Officially, Disney calls the promotional special “One More Disney Day.”

As Leap Day only comes every four years, the additional day provides Disney with an opportunity to try something unique and new. In fact it is touted as the first time both parks will run the twenty-four hour special on the same day.

Along with the “One More Disney Day” offered on Leap Day, both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort have initiated a new special offer. This special offer entitles qualified packages to an extra day (and night) for free.

This special offer must be booked by January 31st and is valid for most arrivals between February 26 and March 10, 2012 at both resorts. Qualified packages must include at least a 3-night hotel stay and 3 day park tickets. To that, Disney will add an extra night of hotel and one more day in the parks at no additional charge.

Finally, Disney is also offering a sweepstakes in association with the One More Disney Day promotion. The One More Disney Day website offers a chance to enter the sweepstakes for one of 60 vacation packages for four to either Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort. You may sign up once per day for the sweepstakes.

Those thinking of a trip during this time will want to check out the complete Disney Park Hours page! It offers the hours for all the theme parks of both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

If you are interested in booking a Disney vacation, contact Disney or your travel agent!
