Wait, what? Where the fuck? Why the hell does my leg hurt? Apparently Fireball, Miller High Life, Bud Light and Red Stripe when combined in the bloodstream does not end up well. It seems to make you do awful, dumb stupid things like hit on fat chicks and cane your buddies in the back of the knee with a drumstick like he was Lloyd fucking Christmas. Seriously, I am still dealing with the pain.
What, might you ask, is the cause of all this fuckery? The circumstances surrounding these events can be directly linked to to the arrival of two people: 1) the infamous Brainslice and 2) the whiskey fueled entity known as Prof to the 206. These two being cooped up in separate airports for a day, while those of us here were pounded by Snopocalypse 2112, and then driving that morning from Portland only added fuel to the fire.
I was outside bullshittin with Brainslice for the first couple openers, I mean the dude got off an airplane into a car, drove to Seattle got out of the car and into another car to go to the show. We had some catchin up and drinkin to do so by the time Prof it the stage...it was on. The energy he and DJ Fundo bring to the stage is crazy and had people bouncin and actin a fool. Prof soon spazzed and tongue wagged his way into hearts of the crowd...and then broke it with songs like "Myself" and "Karma". The blues infused "Whiskey" brought the show back to a happy medium. Before finally blowing the roof off with , "Animal", and "Yeah Buddy". Man I tell you, seein Prof was long overdue. I know Catch was PISSED that he didn't get to hear "Anomaly"...boofuckinghoo. Despite all the bullshit that it took to get to the show, the beating that I took during and after the show, and the hangover I had to endure the next morning...it was all worth it! So much so that Brainslice and I decided to head to Mill Creek the next night and catch the show again. I'm definitely glad I did, thanks to Mike (Prof's manager) for getting us on the list. The venue was nice, but the vibe was a bit off ..by "off" I mean I couldn't tell if the people were there for the show, the club, or to sit in the booths at the back and have dinner. No worries though, Grieves, Prof, and Mike provided some great entertainment. These guys separate are funny, put them together...gold. I mean, check out the Stophouse You Tube channel and Prof's twitter beef with John Stamos and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. I will say though that when Prof hit the stage things got turn up with much the same playlist as the night before.

Well not Joe, Joe...what I really meant was Luck-One. After dropping a video for Farewell Luck announced via Twitter, if you didn't get it from the video, that this may be his last year in the "game". Damn, like Barry Sanders in his prime.... By the way, I really hate rap referred to as "the game". I hate it even more that I just used "the game" reference, but oh well. Luck has become one of my favorite from the NW over the past year with the release of his albums "True Theory" and "King Of The Northwest". The dude from Portland can really spit and from what I hear is a real good dude as well. The song is dope and the video is simple and to the point. It's a new year and cats seem to be coming around again and my guy RoQy TyRaiD is another one of them. While standing in the crowd at Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival's Show and Prove Super Bowl he and I started choppin it up about anything and everything. This past summer I had the opportunity to attend the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival and if you read our little spot on the innanets then you may remember me making mention of a group of gentlemen from Detroit that competed in the Show And Prove Super Bowl at BHF. Clear Soul Forces, comprised of Wimpy, J-Roc, E-Fav, and Ilajade, have been hard in the lab working on their debut album "Detroit Revolution(S)" now with a release date of March 13. In the mean time, they will be dropping a few leaks just to keep us thirsting for more...and not that kind of "thirst" either (way hetero). The first is a Dibia$e produced joint, Bubble Space. Damn has it really been that long since we got something up here...maybe we need to make a New Year's resolution. Anyway, while trolling around Twitter this morning and relishing in the fuckery that is not my life (thank you little baby Jesus) I came across some tweets from The Good Sin. He was gettin all philosophical, as he tends to do, about "wifey vs. wife" among other things. Which led him to drop an unreleased joint, 7th Day Breakup, produced by Brainstorm of Dyme Def. It's an older joint, but a nice one.

Two culinary geniuses from their respective fields, joining forces for the greater good; like two ingredients with distinct characteristics, combining to form a new flavor to savor for even the most critical connoisseur. Move over bacon-covered maple bars…here comes Chef Bronson and Chef Selektah.

Let’s see what we’re workin’ with…DAYUM! This menu got more ginger than Southeast Asia! I mean, normally I don’t trust no ginger, but I’ll make an exception (or two) in this case.

Well…these appetizers are…ehhh. It’s like the house jazz band here is trying to wine and dine me, while your fast-talkin’-ass is trying to get me out the door already! I mean, Bad Lieutenant was my joint (word to Harvey Keitel),
and Fame is a legend, but I’m here with some pretty damn high expectations.

Listen, I know you’re relatively new here, so I’ll let it slide. How about you go ahead and bring me that salad, eh? And drown that shit with ranch, son. Don’t let me see ANY gotdamn green showing through on my plate. Oh, and it best not be that store-bought shit, neither! Fuck a Hidden Valley.

Oooh…what’s this? Now THIS is more like it. Silky smooth undertones, laced with a chili flake-infused lyrical heat - leaving me with that lingering bitter beer-face. Plenty of what I’ve come to know and love about the Albanian wonder: vinegar strokes, leafy greens, and laundry lists of the finest ingredients… THIS is the meal I was looking for! “The Leslie Nielsen of the weed and the word…” (“Cocoa Butter”), that’s what I’m talkin’ ‘bout!

Waiter, tell them Nina Sky twins they can come serenade my table (or my nuts) any time they want. And while you’re at it, how about you hook me up with the main dish?

Hell. Muhfuckin. Yes. These two cats are cooking at the top of their game now! Maybe cat was a bad choice of words…no feline in these dishes. But there is “One of the few dogs that pulled through the Mike Vick fiasco…” (“Cirque Du Soleil”) This shit is just pure, uncut…awesome: drums that make your neck move like a knife at a carving station… records scratchin’ like you’re trying to clean up that barbeque sauce you dripped on your shirt before it stains… horns blowin’…lyrics flowin’…this is the meal that death row inmates dream of.

Each bite has me soundin’ more and more like Bob. And these side dishes, what these all about? The aforementioned Nina Sky and Fame (BTW, M.O.P. droppin’ their new dish on 11/22 - the same day as Action & Statik), Ea$y Money, Maffew Regazino, and of course, Meyhem Lauren and AG Da Coroner - Action’s Outdoorsmen brethren - come through in full force. It’s a veritable Brooklyn buffet, and worth every penny of the price per plate.

Daaaaaaaammmmmnnnn….I can feel the ‘itis creepin’. Between my full belly, and a welcome glimpse into the softer side of Bronsonelli (“The RainMaker” and “Love Letter”), I don’t even know if I can do dessert. Sheeeyit….who’m I kidding? You don’t a build a temple like this without a few extra fourth courses!

Bring that shit. And, by the way, this here cup of malted goodness is empty, my good man. Let’s fix that, eh Sparky?

Videos are fast becoming relevent in music again. I don't mind, I'm a very visual person...just ask Catch. Shoot MTV might even have to start playing them again. This, I know, is a crushing conundrum for Brainslice as he is struggling as it is to catch up on 16 And Pregnant with all the new episodes of Beavis and Butthead.

Theoretics ran a successful Kickstarter campaign last month to raise money to fund their video for "Jekyll & Hyde". They dropped it with a show at The Triple Door last week. The video, directed by Garrett Gibbons, is a period piece and an ode to...yep you guessed it Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Check it out.

Seattle's current shining stars, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, dropped is video for "And We Danced". This video is absolutely hilarious and showcases Macklemore's alternate personas. Congratulations to Ziggy Stardust and Sir Raven Bowie on the video which has over 216,000 view in 4 days...schnikeys.

Common dropped a video as well this week for "Blue Sky" off his upcoming LP, The Dreamer/The Believer. The song and video are incredibly dope and got me lookin forward to some new Common Sense.

Damn, I almost forgot, again, about the homey Notion. I don't know why I seem to forget everytime dude hits me up. Notion dropped his first ever video this week for his joint "Zeused UP". I dig the track, the visuals could use some work, but not a bad first effort. Keep it up homey.

The Seattle City Arts Festival 2011 kicked off tonight and features a weekend chalked full of various types of music including hip-hop, rock, folk, and R&B. There are definitely a couple that caught my eye...and my cash. The most intriguing will be Friday night. Members Only has put together an interesting show at Fred's Wildlife Refuge on Capitol Hill. Dubbed "The Factory", the show is a collaborative effort between many of the upcoming artists in the Northwest. Check out what they had to say:

We set out to create a one-of-a-kind event showcasing the talent in Seattle’s hiphop scene by connecting artists in ways that have yet to be established. After gathering our friends and family, who were excited to participate in the event, we dropped their names in a hat and came out with a list of super groups that will each create an original song to be performed October 21st, and perhaps never again.

Sounds dope right? That's what I thought too. I mean check out the groups that came out of all this...

Members Only and State of the Artist are at it again, this time around collaborating with LA based producers Ski Team to bring you Slopes. Parker, TH, and Hyphen8d did it again with this one with nice flows over piano, finger snaps and claps, some light guitar, mild horns, and what sound like Maracas. It is definitely an easy listen...a step down from the boom bap and a move towards jazzy. I can dig it, and it's free. Check it out.

We’re apparently only weeks away from the much-anticipated release of John Crown’s Coffee and Beats…that’s right, just a few sleeps and wake-ups away! Until then, Tha Deacon is tiding us over with a new video for a classic JC joint. I’ll let him explain:

I put this track on a mixtape before I knew John, because I thought it was dope. I didn't honestly even know he was from Tacoma, or lived there. He heard the mixtape at a mutual friends' house, and my buddy got us in touch. Nothing too big... did I think it'd turn into this a year and a half later? Absolutely not. I believe things happen for a reason, and this is a song that still resonates with me, which is why I wanted to shoot a video for it. Not sure if everybody will pick up the style of the video, but where we have so many talented videographers locally doing all kinds of dope videos, I attempted to pay homage to my youth.

Arguably one of my favorite discoveries of the past year, and one of the most played albums on the ol' iPod, is Theoretics. Their debut album, in my humble opinion is incredible. You can read what I thought about it here. Mark, Chimaroke, Birch, Cameron, Arthur, Ben, and Adam teamed up with Garrett Gibbons to shoot the video for their first single Higher. The video turned out dope and they're looking to do it again, but on a grander scale this time and they would like to enlist your help. These fine gentlemen have started a Kickstarter campaign (a la Macklemore and Blue Scholars) to attempt to raise funds to shoot the video which will again be written and directed by Mr. Gibbons. Check out what the homey Mark Hoy, MC/vocalist, had to say about it:

This will not be a music video, not as people know music videos, especially as our region is concerned...This will be a work of art. Much like how we craft our songs and perform them live, with great care and consideration from an artistic perspective. I dont know if that is a viable 'sell point' to our audiences in trying to procure funds for making the video, but it is definitely one of the standout elements that WILL make it popular after people see it.
One of my hopes for the outcome of this video is to help set the Theoretics project apart from its regional hip hop brethren and affiliates... in the sense that it would help distinguish it as a different breed. Less concerned with following footsteps or appeal and more concerned with blessing people with music/videos/performances that reflect a much more refined artsy and well thought out approach to the genre.

That is some pretty deep shit right there, and I can dig it. Apparently the dudes are going overboard with costumes, sets, sci-fi visual effects, and "anachronistic period elements" to bring this thing to fruition. The theatrics of it remind me of another video that happened to be written and directed by Mr. Gibbons for Victor Shade (aka RA Scion)...Soothsayer. I, personally, am curious and would like to see this video made. So here is the low down, there are two ways you can support to the cause. First is hit up their Kickstarter page and donate there. The second, and the one that I personally recommend, is to attend their FREE/no cover (that's right I said FREE bitches) Kickstarter Fundraising Party/Performance at The Triple Door on September 23rd. There will be a laptop set up and open to their Kickstarter page where you can donate right there on site...not to mention have a few drinks, enjoy some great music, AND see Jekyll and Hyde performed live. If you're lucky you might even get a shot or two of Fireball! Now here is the part where you dig into that wallet and support great music...do it...DO IT. Peace.

After premiering the Larue video last week, I found a couple others had dropped some as well that I thought I would share with you. The first is a nice little video from The Good Sin for "Bad About You" a joint off his most recent Late EP.

The second is a dope little animated joint from The Physics. The video is for "Delusions of Grandeur" from their dope new release Love Is A Business. This joint also features the very talented Mario and Malice Sweet on vocals.
