Pentaco 12 - Solo Session

I went into this session thinking: double spinning clipper > spinning symposium twirl ... I put it first, even though it was the last string after an almost hour long solo session. I was stoked to accomplish my goal :)

I don't think I've ever had this much fun playing alone! It was weird.

I apologize for the terrible camera angles and lack of focus. I'm still working out how best to set the camera up when playing solo. I'm going to get better lighting for the spot soon, too.

I started filming this session on the iPhone, but ran out of disk space (I could only get my hands on 16GB model), so I switched over to the Macbook Pro's considerably-lower-quality-but-better-than-nothing camera. The MBP does have the benefit of being having a much wider view, but you just can't argue with 720p.

Here's the first bit of the session (recorded in 720p) where I hit:

22 guiltless; stepping ducking paradox symposium whirl (7 ADDs); I had inspinning symposium twirl off my foot; double spinning osis > stepping far blender > 20 or so contacts.

After the camera switch, I hit a lot of no-plant spinning, including a no-plant double spinning clipper, which was totally fun. Inspinning whirl; fusion - blurrier - paradox torque - etc. at the end, and a couple of classic-me out-of-control catches. The weird looking move after the first blurry dragon fly combo is actual a mixer (double legover). I also used YouTube's AudioSwap feature on this video because the De La were listening to started to annoy me ~~(though at the moment it doesn't appear to have taken)~~.

Things have slowed down rather dramatically since World's; Dylan left, summer ended, Matt's ankle is still borked. I've gotten really busy with work, but have been dealing with some depression sickness. Life can be a challenge.

On a really positive note, Jeremy Kumbruch has been really getting back into it, and we've been playing 2-3 times a week for the past 2 or so. He's getting his cardio back and is really starting to bust out some amazingly smooth strings. I feel really fortunate to still be playing with Jer after all of these 14 years! I've got a bunch of really nice strings from him from this last session yesterday; if we can ever find the time, I'll make him come over and publish something of it.

I've published a few videos to my youtube since my last post here. It's time to get to work, so without further ado:

I was inspired by a hack session earlier in Jonny's backyard, so I decided to try out a barefoot session. It was a lot of fun, and I do think I'll be doing this more often.
Another beautiful summer day ... just a single string here as I was playing myself and not playing well at all.

630 consecutive kicks to warm up tonight; skooled the crap out of blurry blender (stepping out of it); hit blurry whirl > ps whirl > mobius > repeat again; inspinning dragonfly is hard to set out of.

Nucleus Shoes & a Half-Tube of Shoegoo

Of the numerous issues I have with the nucleus, the one I find the most annoying is the instep. It's too rounded off, and it causes me to miss clippers I would have otherwise hit. With my quantum's failing fast, I decided it was time to see if I could address this main issue of mine with some shoe goo :-) I even added a part of a chop stick to one side in an effort to gain a little more stability; we'll see how that works. I'm off to go give these quantum's one last workout, but I'll try out the modded nucleus' tomorrow and report back.

Heading to IFPA World Footbag Championships!

Stoked. We've got most of our travel arrangements taken care of; all I have to do now is to renew my passport and we'll be good to go. This will be my first Worlds since 2002, and my girlfriend Amy and I will be heading back to the Bay Area for it this year, almost 10 years later.

I'm hoping that I'll have my iPhone 4 in time for it, but whether it's HD video or not, I plan on covering Worlds as much in real time as I possibly can, through as many different channels as I can. I'll likely make this blog the hub for everything though, so if you're not subscribed ... get on it :)

3 Stairs - Footbag Tricks Down Stairs

I couldn't get anyone to come out and play with me this evening, so I decided to record myself doing tricks down stairs. I've not attempted a full-out "session" of "footbag trials" in about 4 years (I think), and I definitely feel rusty. I'm basically just warming up here, but it stoked me enough to go out and try again soon.

Christoph Larndorfer was visiting Vancouver and our paths happened to cross. We had a great shred session with Caro B. I noticed that he was still wearing his IFPA World's bracelet from last year, so I grabbed a shot that turned out pretty good :-)
