Election Extravaganza

Hundreds of Alleghenians gathered on Tuesday in the Campus Center
for an "Election Night Extravaganza" that included music, games, prizes,
and, of course, the opportunity to watch election returns. The event
was sponsored by the College Democrats, the College Republicans, and
the Center for Political Participation.

The first snowfall of the season blanketed the Allegheny campus
today, making things just a bit more challenging for pedestrians
and drivers. You can experience the sights and sounds of the first

In his first official ceremony as president of Allegheny College,
James H. Mullen Jr. welcomed 599 new students at the college's
matriculation ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 24. You can watch a
video of the ceremony here.

Watch Out, Chompers

A 14-foot bronze sculpture of an alligator will greet students returning
for the fall semester at Allegheny. The sculpture is located in the
quad area outside of the Campus Center, the Tippie Alumni Center,
Alden Hall, and the new Vukovich Center for Communication Arts.
Allegheny alumni Loyal and Marjorie Moore donated the sculpture.

Cindy Hoesch captured this photograph of a great horned owl perched
on Schultz Hall above the Admissions Office. The owl has also been
spotted in trees near the Rustic Bridge.

Presidential Visit

Former president Bill Clinton visited campus on Saturday, April 19,
for a campaign stop in support of his wife, Democratic presidential
candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. Allegheny College has invited all
of the candidates in the 2008 presidential election to visit campus.

Bail Me Out

Kappa Alpha Theta hosted a Jail 'n' Bail event on April 11 to benefit
Crawford County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Campus
organizations donated $10 to have someone "arrested" and placed in
"jail" in the Campus Center. Pictured above with sisters of Kappa Alpha
Theta are (from left) canine convicts Maggie, a registered therapy dog
from Allegheny's Counseling Center, and Elmo, also known as the
psychology puppy. Both dogs were released after raising the $20 "bail"
required of inmates.

Fooled

Computer science professors at Allegheny found an April Fools' Day
surprise when they entered their Alden Hall offices yesterday: 800
balloons left there by their students. Although more than a bit sleepy
after a night of inflation, the enterprising students seemed to be
quite pleased with the fruits of their labor—especially after the
balloons spilled into Alden's main hallway. Pictured above (from left)

Unexpected Visitor

Although the snow has since (mostly) melted from campus, it wasn't so long
ago that the winter weather attracted an unexpected visitor to Bentley Lawn.

Net Profits

Two basketball teams made up of Allegheny faculty, coaches and staff
took to the court on March 9 for the "Nothing But Nets" fund-raiser,
part of an effort to buy mosquito nets to protect children in Africa.
Each team had a sponsorship bin, and fans came down from the
stands and put money into their favorite team's bin to raise the
