         <title>Computing Services Announces the Technology Workshops for Summer 2008</title>
         <description>For the fourth year, Allegheny College Computing Services is offers workshop on various aspects of technology available at the College.  This year eleven workshops will be offered in June and July thanks to the expertise of many folks around campus that incorporate  technology in creative yet practical ways in their daily work.

         <title>Working on Summer Workshops for College Employees</title>
         <description>After a few really productive brainstorming sessions, the field of possible topics for this year's employee training sessions narrows into an exciting mix of topics that range from desktop publishing to tips on greener computing.

Topics still under consideration are: &lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Facebook More Than A Waste of Time&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Staying Sane - Tips on Organizing Your Digital Life&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Office 2007 Overview&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Informer&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Tabletents, Tri-folds and Flyers - Publisher 2003 &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Publicity 2.0 More than Tabletents, Tri-folds and Flyers&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Get the Picture, Tips For Working with Images&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Green Computing - Computer Habits That are Environment Friendly&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Twitter Me This, Relevant Tools of Web2.0&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Effective Writing Techniques&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Charting Your Way Through Excel&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

We chose the topics based on questions received through User Services, surveys conducted by AAC and general direction that Computing Services and technology are heading.  Over the coming weeks the list of topics will be finalized and a schedule created.

         <title>NITLE Instructional Technology Workshop Registration Deadline</title>
         <description>&lt;strong&gt;Friday, April 4th is the registration deadline for the NITLE workshops on teaching students who grew up in the digital age. &lt;/strong&gt; 

The workshops &lt;strong&gt;&lt;a href="http://training.allegheny.edu/workshops/faculty/facultydescriptions.php?postopicID=109"&gt;Teaching Digital Immigrants&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;&lt;a href="http://training.allegheny.edu/workshops/faculty/facultydescriptions.php?postopicID=110"&gt;Visual Literacy: Tools for Teaching and Learning with Images&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; still have spaces available.  Both  workshops are full-day sessions that will be offered on &lt;strong&gt;May 15 and 16&lt;/strong&gt; respectively.   

Participation in these workshop is open to members of the Allegheny community and faculty, librarians, and technologists from &lt;a href="http://nitle.org/index.php/nitle/about_nitle/colleges"&gt;peer colleges of the NITLE network&lt;/a&gt;.  Visit the &lt;a href="http://training.allegheny.edu/facultyreg.html"&gt;online registration form&lt;/a&gt; &lt;strong&gt;before Friday April 4&lt;/strong&gt;  to reserve your place in these workshops.

         <title>NITLE Workshop on Technologies for Teaching Writing</title>
         <description>I want to bring to your attention an opportunity provided by &lt;a href="http://www.nitle.org"&gt;NITLE&lt;/a&gt; on &lt;a title="Technologies for Teaching Writing / 2008 / Upcoming Events / The Institute / NITLE - NITLE" href="http://www.nitle.org/index.php/nitle/the_institute/upcoming_events/2008/technologies_for_teaching_writing"&gt;Technologies for Teaching Writing&lt;/a&gt;.  The day long workshop will examine the impact digital tools have on the teaching of writing and provide an overview of tools that facilitate: &lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;the draft and and revision writing process;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;faculty and peer review;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;public and private writing;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;and new forms of communication, such as multimedia.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

This workshop is being host by &lt;a href="http://www.southwestern.edu/"&gt;Southwestern University&lt;/a&gt; on May 3, 2008.

         <title>WebCT Lunches Scheduled to Discuss Sakai Migration</title>
         <description>We would like to invite everyone who has used WebCT in the past or is
currently using it to attend a lunch discussion on &lt;strong&gt;EITHER&lt;/strong&gt; Monday,
February 25, 2008 at noon or Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 12:30 pm.
Both sessions will be held in the Campus Center, Room 301/302 and
lunch will be provided. 

The main purpose of this discussion is to tell you more about Sakai,
the new software that will be replacing WebCT beginning Fall 2008,
and to talk about the transition from WebCT to this product.

         <title>Podcasting in Education - A Different Model From Students At UBC</title>

&lt;blockquote&gt;Notes on a presentation about student podcasting from University of British Columbia (UBC), given at the ELI 2008 annual conference.

The Prototype of an Educational Podcasting Initiative (PEPI) project involved multiple UBC offices, including Land and Food Systems, journalism, the library, public relations, and instructional technology. The goal was to support podcasting in a different way than profcasting, which was seen as very often done. A second goal was to move somewhat away from dependence on Apple's iTunes. Pedagogical goals: improving communication skills, engaging academic content in a new way, adding digital fluency, and reaching a larger audience.&lt;/blockquote&gt;

Similar workshops in years past provided an opportunity to investigate new instructional technology and learn how those tools are being utilized by instructors at peer institutions.
