Our fall class schedule will be up on Mon. 8/8 and if you are a current student or new pre-registered student, your class placement letter will be in the mail around the same time. We are very excited because this is a Nutcracker year! We look forward to seeing you soon! Remember, if you have someone join the studio, you get $20 off tuition. CREATIVE SHOW 2014

We are excited to announce our upcoming creative shows on Sunday, January 12 at Montgomery Performance Space at Allegheny College. Come celebrate the creativity of our dancers!

If you are new to the creative show process, it is easy to explain. During late fall dancers work on the creative process to create their own works under the guidance of their teacher. We believe this is an important part to a dancers education because it teaches them about elements of choreography and self- expression. Both these skills are important to develop the artistic side of a dancer. Dancers will present their pieces during these shows. Each class decides on music, costume, make-up, etc. If you do not know what your child is wearing, or what the hair and make-up are please check in with her/his teacher. We do ask for a donation of $2 to help pay for the technical staff.

If you have been in creative shows before there are a few of new things to cover. First, the show is a week earlier than before. Second, we are back at Montgomery Performance Space (the Academy is booked). If you are wondering why there are 4 shows instead of 2, it is because of new fire code occupancy limits. With a seating capacity of 170, I tried to keep each show to around 50 dancers. Allegheny has requested that we do NOT sit in the aisles. Also, they do not want food in the building, especially since the shows are so short. If your child is in multiple shows, Allegheny has asked that all food and drink be limited to the lobby.

GUIDELINES

1) Arrive early! Find a place to put your belongings under the stage. Do not leave belongings in the performance space. Check order of show which will be posted backstage on both sides. We will have a brief meeting before the show starts.

2) While in the building – No food, candy, gum or drink. If you need to stay between shows, you may eat and drink in the lobby only. ABSOLUTELY NO sitting in the aisles.

3) While backstage –Water only in plastic water bottles. You should be in wings two pieces before your own number. Be quiet, whispering only. Stay out of audience view. You are allowed to watch the show, but only move from backstage to house (house to backstage) between numbers.

4) Because this is your show, and directed by you, you must behave very responsibly! Respect other performers and the space. Know when it is your turn to go on stage.

5) Costumes, props, shoes – you are responsible for your prop(s). Make sure that you bring what you need, and take home all belongings. ABSOLUTELY no street shoes in any of the dance spaces.

6) Cleaning up – You are responsible for cleaning up the backstage and audience areas before you leave. The building must be returned to the condition you found it – clean.

7) General appearance – hair should be pulled back, no jewelry unless part of costume, make-up should be blended.

Recital Guidelines

Costume – Make sure costume doesn’t have hanging threads, is wrinkle free, clean, & properly worn. Jazz pants should be worn at the navel or 2” below. Generally, shoulder straps should be fastened to back of costume not tied around neck. If costume is snug fitting do not wear underwear.

Shoes – Ballet shoestrings should be taped down inside shoe (no bows showing). Pointe shoe ribbons should be glued or taped (strings tucked in) – cut all fraying fabric. Tyette tap ribbons should be replaced with black elastic. Jazz shoes should be double knotted.

Make-up – Make sure make-up is blended, matches the tones of the costume, & the rest of the class.

Hair – Generally, hair should be pulled back in bun for ballet, off of face for other styles with fly away hair sprayed back. No barrettes, scrunchies, beads, etc., unless part of costume.

Miscellaneous – No glasses unless necessary. No jewelry, nail polish, gum or candy on stage. Absolutely no eating or drinking in costume, or in auditorium. If you have questions about your make-up or hair please ask your teacher. Be sure to label all costume parts, shoes, and belongings. Be sure to check the lost and found area in the lobby. All lost and found items are donated to charity when the show is over.

Facility – DANCERS AND FAMILY ARE NOT ALLOWED IN OTHER AREAS OF THE CAMPUS CENTER. We are only allowed in the lobby, auditorium, halls and bathrooms next to the auditorium MAIN LEVEL. DO NOT BRING OR INVITE FRIENDS TO REHEARSALS.

Recital Guidelines

Costume – Make sure costume doesn’t have hanging threads, is wrinkle free, clean, & properly worn. Jazz pants should be worn at the navel or 2” below. Generally, shoulder straps should be fastened to back of costume not tied around neck. If costume is snug fitting do not wear underwear.

Shoes – Ballet shoestrings should be taped down inside shoe (no bows showing). Pointe shoe ribbons should be glued or taped (strings tucked in) – cut all fraying fabric. Tyette tap ribbons should be replaced with black elastic. Jazz shoes should be double knotted.

Make-up – Make sure make-up is blended, matches the tones of the costume, & the rest of the class.

Hair – Generally, hair should be pulled back in bun for ballet, off of face for other styles with fly away hair sprayed back. No barrettes, scrunchies, beads, etc., unless part of costume.

Miscellaneous – No glasses unless necessary. No jewelry, nail polish, gum or candy on stage. Absolutely no eating or drinking in costume, or in auditorium. If you have questions about your make-up or hair please ask your teacher. Be sure to label all costume parts, shoes, and belongings. Be sure to check the lost and found area in the lobby. All lost and found items are donated to charity when the show is over.

Facility – DANCERS AND FAMILY ARE NOT ALLOWED IN OTHER AREAS OF THE CAMPUS CENTER. We are only allowed in the lobby, auditorium, halls and bathrooms next to the auditorium MAIN LEVEL. DO NOT BRING OR INVITE FRIENDS TO REHEARSALS.

Comp Dancers Overcome to Shine at Competition

Once again, we are very proud of our competition team dancers performance on and off the stage. We were all very disappointed in the poor venue, poor floor surface, poor sound system, poor organization, and poor knowledge and experience of the judges. We will not return to this competition in the future. I was very disappointed given the name of the competition and the material presented on their website.

That said...I would like to award my own special "The Show Must Go On" award to all our dancers who overcame these obstacles and did a fabulous job - all with a positive attitude and great team effort. Not only did you learn from the experience, you all pulled together as a team. Thank you for rising to the occassion and acting like champions!

Nutcracker Opens Nov. 26

As legend has it, Drosselmeyer, a magician and maker of mechanical dolls, once cast a spell that chased away all of the mice and rats that lived in the Royal Palace...all but their Rat King. In revenge the Rat King, transformed Drosselmeyer's nephew into a Nutcracker doll. Only by killing the Rat King and being loved by a young girl can his nephew be released from the spell.

So what happens next? To find out come see the show!

The cast includes: Clara (Angeline Pendolino and Abby Mullen), the Nutcracker (Darin Paden), Herr Drosselmeyer (Brian Thummler), the Sugar Plum Fairy (Mary Bajek, Alyssa Beck, Kaitlyn Bontrager), the Cavalier (Jens Petersen), the Snow Queen (Anne Clement and Emily Erdeljac), and the Dew Drop (Hallie Kirdahy and Lauren Mullen).

There will be two special school performances at 9 and 1 on Wednesday, Nov. 24 for PENNCREST and Crawford Central third graders. Public Performances are Friday and Saturday, Nov 26 & 27 at 7, and Saturday and Sunday, Nov 27 & 28 at 1. Dancers Shine at the Fair

Dancers did a knock out job dancing "814 Nightmare" for the Miss Crawford County Fair Pageant. It was awesome to see the tribe together one last time before Carrie and Sam head off to college.

If that weren't enough, dancers performed to Aaron Copeland's "Rodeo" the very next day. The performance can be seen on Channel 23. Word on the street is that you did a knock out job! We'd like to thank "Emil and the Palookas" for the fabulous live music. It was exciting to be part of the first ever local band performance at the fair.

We are so proud of Chris Garvey and her dancers for winning not one but two Entertainment Awards at Onstage New York this past weekend! Each is a $200 gift certificate toward nationals or next year's regional coompetition. If that weren't enough, the team won the Class Act Award for choreographing age appropriate, 'classy', and artistic dance. This also comes with a $200 gift certificate.
