Delayed Anaphylaxis

Research carried out at University of Virginia has uncovered a severe delayed allergic reaction, which they call Delayed anaphylactic shock.

It appears to be specific to a meat allergy: beef, pork or lamb. Anaphylaxis can occur 3 to 6 hours after eating these foods for those who are allergic to it.

It is these two gluten-containing ingredients that put most beer off limits for celiacs and those with a gluten allergy (the two main reasons people go on a gluten-free diet).

And what if you are allergic to wheat?

If wheat, rather than gluten is your main problem, then you have more choices. You can probably buy your beer in at your local shop, being careful to read the ingredients to make sure the beer contains no wheat.

Bread is made of a variety of ingredients. If you are "allergic to bread" then you are surely allergic to other foods made up of some of the same ingredients.

Also, consider that bread is made of flour (ignoring the type of flour for now) and realize that by grinding the grain into tiny particles, the food oxidizes, making it rather toxic to your body.

Many on a gluten-free diet wonder if they are safe to eat oats or oatmeal. Some sources say that oats are safe for celiacs, others say stay away. So which one is it? Are oats safe or not?

There are two problems with oatmeal. Even if the first problem can be solved, the second one makes solving the first pretty much irrelevant.

Soy allergy is very common. Soy isn’t a great food anyhow, so even if you’re not allergic to it, you are best to avoid soy.

Soy is used in a wide variety of products, so always take a close look at the ingredients.

If you currently use soy as a mainstay in your diet, replace it with other high-protein foods. Meat, fish and eggs are good sources of protein. For vegetarians, peas, beans (other than soy beans) and lentils are great choices.

Rice is a member of the grass family, and is therefore a grain.

Rice is an ideal food for most people with a gluten allergy or are on a gluten-free diet

It is one of the world's most important staple foods, providing approximately one fifth the total calories consumed world wide. It is the second most highly cultivated grain after maize, but not all maize is directly consumed as food by humans, rice is the top the calorie provider in the world.

Yes, it is important to know what foods contain gluten, otherwise you will poison yourself. The problem is that most people focus on everything they can’t eat at first, leading to depression. In many cases, eating gluten also leads to depression.

Pseudocereals, or pseudograins, are ideal for the gluten-free diet. Pseudograins look like grain, and in many ways you can cook with them as you would with grains.

The difference is that they are not members of the grass family. They are also completely gluten-free. This makes them an excellent choice if you have a gluten allergy or are celiac.

The gluten-free diet is becoming ever more popular, and with good reason. As more and more people discover they have a gluten allergy or are celiac, the idea of completely eliminating gluten from the diet is gaining ground.

Should everyone go gluten-free? This is debatable.

Keratosis pilaris is a skin condition, where the skin on the back and outer sides of the upper arms are rough and bumpy. It can also appear almost anywhere else on the body, especially on the thighs and tops of legs. It does not generally occur on palms or soles of feet.

It can be related to an allergy, including a gluten allergy.

Keratosis pilaris is also called chicken skin because it resembles goose bumps. Many people are unaware they have this condition, confusing it with acne, especially when it appears on the face.

There are several types of keratosis pilaris:

Yeast allergy suffers are forever on the watch for yeast-containing foods to avoid. Many wonder if vinegar is a problem if they are on a yeast-free diet.

There are many types of vinegar. They all have one thing in common: they involve fermentation with yeast. This is bad news if you have a yeast allergy. This is not the whole story on vinegar and yeast so keep reading.

Gluten Allergy and Wheat Lectins

A gluten allergy is the body's immune response to proteins in gluten. Gluten should be harmless to the body, or so one would think. This is not always the case, as I will explain later in this article.

Some people's bodies decide that gluten proteins are a foreign invader and this triggers an immune response, leading to an allergic reaction.

An intolerance to wheat lectin is a different matter, and it is far more common than you might think.

Gluten Free Bread – Home Made #6

Gluten free bread in a bread maker – its tasty, convenient, and eventually cheaper than buying gluten free bread. It really helps reduce the cost of your gluten-free diet.

My home made bread has been very successful so far. The bread is tasty and has a good to great consistency.

<img width=160" alt="Gluten Free Bread | Gluten Free Diet | Gluten Allergy" src="http://www.allergy-details.com/files/Gluten-Free-Bread-06t.jpg">

Here is my challenge:

Make bread within 15 minutes (and let the bread maker do the rest.

Have consistently great consistency

Have it rise properly into a beautifully shaped loaf.

In most cases, this is likely to be:

• Yeast (yeast allergy)
• Barley
• Wheat
• Gluten (gluten allergy)
• Sulphates
• Hop (humulus)
• Other additives

Yeast and sulphates are an intrinsic part of beer. Unlike distilled alcohol, beer, like wine, always contains yeast because it is make by fermenting starches with yeast.
If you have a yeast allergy, then beer is strictly off limits for you.

Allergies and Depression

Depression is one possible symptom of allergies and food intolerances.

There are many types of depression, ranging from a somewhat negative outlook, through to full-blown major depression.

Because different people can experience an allergy to the same trigger in different ways, it is impossible to say that a specific type of depression characterizes an allergy symptom.

It is probably fair to say that allergies do not cause major depression, but may make it worse (this statement subject to change should new information become available).

By following a gluten-free diet, those with a gluten allergy or celiac are reducing the intake of grains that may in fact be harmful to the general population.

According to the book The Gluten Connection the shift in diet when our ancestors switched from hunter-gatherer to farmer did not have a positive effect on our health, even as it boosted the population.

Grain, or cereal, referrers to cultivated members of the grass family used as food.

Grains are staple foods throughout much of the world.

Because different types of grain do better according to the climate and other factors, different cultures use different grains as staples, for entirely practical reasons.

Gluten Allergy on the Rise

Is this a good or bad thing?

Its a mixture of both.

The good news is that those who have been suffering from gluten allergy symptoms for years are finally discovering the cause of the problem, due to an increased awareness of what to look for, and even that something and common as wheat might be a major source of trouble.

It is the third most popular drink after water and tea.

What most people think of as beer is malted barley which is fermented with yeast, and flavored with hops.

Beer is typically between 4% and 6% alcohol, but varieties exist with less than 1% alcohol, others go as high as 20%.

Beer has been brewed since well before recorded history.

Gluten Free Bread – Home Made!

Bread machine recommendation.

Gluten free bread is a wonderful addition to my diet lately. Having a gluten allergy is no longer the huge inconvenience it once was.

Commercial gluten-free bread is now excellent – it gets better every year. Convenient and tasty, it is also expensive.

Home made gluten free bread seems like a great alternative, so I got a bread machine lately and have been enjoying the results.
