It’s taken me a week to reenter reality and accept that my long-awaited trip of a lifetime is now complete. Being a food allergy parent yourself, I know you understand the desire to show your child that life and adventure don’t need to stop because of food allergies.
I can’t thank you enough for the comfort and confidence you brought to me and my son and continue to bring to so many others whose only wish is to share the joys of life, adventure, travel and well- childhood with their children.
When you think of Disney, you don’t typically associate tears. But let me tell you- I cried, a LOT! I cried tears of joy, relief, thankfulness… because my son who is Top 9 was able to eat like a king. He was accepted, cared for and respected. Everyone at Disney was so careful and detailed with his food.
With your services and knowledge, making a trip like this for my family was stress-free! Food didn’t have to be the forefront of every thought. As a mom, I was able to enjoy our vacation without the anxiety that plagues my every day. My son was able to be a kid and enjoy the simple pleasures of sitting down at a restaurant after a long busy day and just knowing he can eat. He wasn’t made to feel different or special- at last, he was just like any other kid.
We had the most wonderful vacation and it’s all because of you. As Walt said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” Well, Lizzie- thanks for making my dream come true.

We met with Chef Jose to order our daughter’s favorite Mickey Waffles, bacon and breakfast potatoes. He gave us a pager that would buzz when time to meet him when her food was read. Then we updated our mobile order to indicate we were there so they could prepare our food.

It took no time at all for him to prepare her waffles and bacon. He added apple slices and apple juice to the order and then delivered it to us. Then, we stopped at the beverage area, which is closed off and run by Cast Members to place your beverages on your tray.

Once you have your food, you can find a seat inside, all separated by empty booths for social distancing, or one of the ten or so tables outside. Once you sit, you can remove your mask, of course. We took our food to-go and ate in the room. It’s not quite the same experience, but still safe for food allergies.

Once you have mobile order, indicate you have arrived and are notified that your order is ready, they let you into the restaurant.

All of the food stations are closed to the public, with tables spaced apart to retrieve your food.

Drink stations are staffed by Cast Members to prepare your beverages.

After waiting for the lunch crowd to die down, we ventured into this quick service and asked for a food allergy menu from one of the Batuu greeters. After reviewing all the options, trying to determine what might work for multiple food allergies to dairy, peanuts and tree nuts, we asked the cashier if we could speak to a chef or manager. And we were extremely lucky, as the chef who created the Docking Bay 7 menu was working. Chef Blaine asked us, not only about our allergies but what about the kinds of food our daughter liked. Then, he recommended the Felucian Kefta and Hummus Garden Spread and the Takodana Veggie Dippers Youngling Meal, with a slight modification to exclude the nuts.

The Felucian Kefta is plant-based using the Impossible meat product, seasoned a bit, along with hummus and a tomato and cucumber relish, plus pita bread. It was good, but not great. For a “new” out-of-this-world creation, it was not as good as the food created for Satu’li Canteen in Pandora. But it was good, especially if you wanted to stay in Galaxy’s Edge for a while. During the opening, we had a 3-hour time slot to explore the land, so we didn’t want to leave for lunch.

We also had the Takodana Veggie Dippers, which is black bean hummus, carrots, romaine, cucumbers, tomatoes, and green beans. It, too, was good for a snack and was great for our daughter’s food allergies.

We also tried the Endorian Fried Chicken Tip Yip Youngling Meal, though our daughter could not have that. But since we were sampling everything, my husband and I thought it might be another tasty snack, and it was. Not great, but good.

We’re hopeful that more choices come along that are both good for multiple food allergies and also delicious. This was a good start, especially considering it was the opening week. Chef Blaine was extremely helpful although he was extremely busy. And the atmosphere was really fun, too. As mentioned, we had these same options at the opening of Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World. At that time, the menu options were identical, and we had the same result – it was good, but safe, which is the most important element. And, we’ve successfully eaten dairy, peanut and tree nut-free at both edges of the galaxy!

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo: We all have to eat, right? Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs has traveled throughout the galaxy following his longtime gig as the chef at Maz Kanata’s castle on Takodana, surviving the attach of First Order. Now he brings exotic flavors and unusual dishes to his traveling diner “Tuggs’ Grub.”

A sampling of what you will find at Tuggs’ Grub, include the Ithorian Garden Loaf, a plant-based “meatloaf” that comes served with roasted vegetable mash, seasonal vegetables, and mushroom sauce. Another delicious option is the Smoked Kaadu Ribs, similar to country sticky pork ribs. They are accompanied by a unique blueberry corn muffin and cabbage slaw.

Ronto Roasters – This one features a unique twist, as a recycled podracing engine fires up a spit of exotic meats, meticulously turned by a former smelter droid, 8D-J8. Can’t wait to try that one!

Kat Saka’s Kettle – This one is a street market stalls, where the grain vendor sells the ever-popular Outpost Mix, which is a blend of sweet, savory and spicy popcorn.

Milk Stand – Another street market stall to get your farm-fresh blue milk or green milk, direct from Bubo Wamba Family Farms. Mmm, sounds delish. (of course, those with dairy allergies will skip this one entirely, unless the offer some dairy-free choices)

Our favorite is the chicken, rice and bean sauce, which is more of a mildly spicy vinaigrette sauce. It’s delicious and we always ask for extra. This option is straight off the menu and is free of dairy, peanut and tree nut. However, we still specify our allergies when ordering.  They do have an allergy menu, of course. However, after discovering this fantastic combination, we only consult it to make sure nothing has changed. You may notice on the allergy-friendly menu, most of the options are the same across allergen categories, except for fish/shellfish and soy.

As a Disney World Passholder, we have the luxury of entering a park just for a meal. On this last trip to Disney World, we made the trip on the fabulous Disney Transportation System bus all the way to Animal Kingdom just for lunch at Satu’li Canteen. It is that good. Of course, we also stopped at Tamu Tamu for a Dole Whip.

We have eaten here a few times and they do a great job! My daughter is allergic to wheat, dairy, all nuts and shellfish. They prepared a safe meal for her, and even had warm rolls for her to start! We will certainly be there again on our next trip to Disney World!

It was my first time eating GF at Disney. Chef Boone came out and spoke to me personally, letting me know what was safe and what wasn’t. I got my own GF rolls, and a plate of rice, vegetables, and delicious chicken wings. The salad and all the meats were safe. I also got my own dessert of chocolate chip cake and ice cream with fresh berries. Chef Boone and the staff were great, and my meal was excellent! I highly recommend ‘Ohana for GF dinner!

He delivered both meals, while our server, Nicolas, delivered my choice, the Cafe Sandwich. Our daughter’s chicken sandwich was perfect, of course, free of dairy, peanuts and tree nuts. She loved it. But, the night wasn’t over. Chef Ben prepared a special melted Enjoy Life Chocolate fondue, with roasted marshmallows, sliced bananas, and strawberries and Enjoy Life Cookies. And, to top it off, he prepared it for the three of us to share. It, too, was fantastic.

We have eaten here several times, and the nut allergic family member loved that all of it was safe. She particularly enjoys being able to eat dessert. We came here on Christmas Eve 2017 and were given a food allergy guide grid which confirmed that everything was safe. We went straight to the desert part of the buffet and loaded up a plate with desserts. When we got to the table, the chef had come to discuss the food allergies. He told us that two of the desserts were not, in fact, safe. They had added two desserts that week that were not safe for nut allergy. If he had not shown up at that time, I think my daughter would have eaten a bit of the almond flour desserts already. He brought her desserts from the kitchen that had not mingled with the buffet desserts. It was a close call.

Breakfast: They have a dedicated Mickey waffle maker here, just like at Makahiki, with the same waffle mix.  Since that’s my favourite breakfast at Disney, why try anything else?  (Nothing else looked safe or interesting, anyway.)  After the chef brought out photos of the waffle mix ingredients for me to check, and confirmed everything, I had a large plate of waffles, warmed maple syrup, and a side plate of fruit for breakfast.  Yum!  The chef at Makahiki had a better presentation for breakfast, but that is likely due to that particular chef being more creative than the one I had at ‘AMA’AMA that morning.

Dinner: We actually canceled another lunch reservation to eat a second dinner here.  This is a beautiful location to watch the sunset over the beach whilst you dine.  The dress code and atmosphere are a little more refined at dinner time, which we appreciated.  After all, we never eat out at home (due to allergies) and don’t get to dress up often outside of vacation.  They have both a vegetarian and allergy menu at dinner as well.  The chefs again were able to make something from the vegetarian menu safe for me.  One night it was a stir-fried vegetable dish and the other was a quinoa salad.  I loved their salads and papaya seed vinaigrette – which was good on salad, vegetables, and tofu.  The only safe dessert option was fruit, and we usually skipped it for a treat in our room instead.

Special diets: allergic to tree nuts, peanuts, potato, wheat, and sorghum; dairy intolerance; vegan preference

AULANI, in general: The food at Aulani is simple, based mostly on Hawaiian and Japanese cuisine.  There are only two small table service restaurants.  As such, options here can be somewhat limited, depending on your allergies.  For picky eaters and people with long allergy and special diet lists like mine, there aren’t many options, but the chefs are fantastic at coming up with creative menus and new ideas to provide safe and pleasing meals.  The chefs provide the same high-end allergy service you expect from Disney, though they have fewer run the jewels x nike sb dunk low ingredients to work with.  We were very satisfied with the food service, overall.

The chefs circulate between both restaurants, so you will begin to see familiar faces in both places if you go back often. We had one particular (and very good) chef three times: once at Makahiki and twice at ‘AMA’AMA.

The main gift shop sells a small selection of ‘Snacks with Character’, which are allergy-friendly treats, but not all top-10-free.  Some were Enjoy Life treats.  Be sure to check the labels on every item, every time!

The chef we spoke with before our visit told us that the only safe places for me to eat would be Makahiki, ‘AMA’AMA, and the shave ice stand.  The quick service locations and luau wouldn’t be able to accommodate my allergy list.

Studio rooms have a kitchenette that is great for preparing simple meals.  You can also request a rice cooker to use in your room.  For the two of us, this combination of microwave, fridge, and rice cooker, with a heavy dose of creativity, kept us well fed outside of our dining reservations. Villas have a full kitchen with range.  Grocery stores are within a five minute drive to Kapolei: Costco, Walmart, Target, and Down to Earth natural food store (with plenty of allergy-friendly brands) are all there – plus more, I’m sure.

My wife, daughter and I had signed up for the afternoon Wanyama Safari. I specifically registered with Disney and at every restaurant, my daughter’s cashew allergy. Every place was awesome with one absolute MAJOR exception. This was Jiko. Before our trip I called and registered the fact that my daughter had a cashew allergy. I called the morning of our Safari and reminded them of my daughter’s allergy. I was assured that there would be no problem. Because of our other positive experiences with Disney being very good about allergies, I was lulled into a sense of security. As it happened, there was only one other couple that had signed up for the safari. I again, reminded the young lady who greeted us about my daughter’s cashew allergy.

Before the safari they set up a buffet of various finger foods. As is protocol for our family, I went in to the room where the food was presented to check it out. Sure enough there was a bowl of cashews set out. I was shocked by this. I am not exaggerating the redundancy of my checking in with Disney staff about my daughter’s allergy. We had a very near disaster on our hands. We brought this up to the staff and they did nothing. They did not even remove the cashews.

What really surprised me is the fact that I did not receive a response from Disney when I wrote to them about this issue. I do not expect Disney to change everything to suit a person with a cashew allergy. What I have a problem with is assuring me that I would
not have to worry when I did have to worry.

He also discussed the basic process for making reservations 180 days in advance and to note your food allergy on each reservation. You can indicate that you have the top 8, plus corn. They added corn based on feedback from the Special Diets team who receive a lot of requests for corn allergies. If you have other allergies, a complex set of allergies or PKU needs, it is suggested that you call and speak to Special Diets, 14 days prior to your trip.

He stressed that you should discuss your food allergies when you arrive at each restaurant. He wasn’t specific about which Cast Member, but we recommend you tell everyone, starting with the host or hostess, the server and anyone who may handle drinks. He also recommended speaking with the chef if you have any questions, and also stressed that the chefs love to do it. He explained the logistics of the chefs coming out to meet with visitors and that, on some days, they were spending more time on the floor than in the kitchen, especially during peak times. Since this prevents the chef from actually cooking, they instigated the food allergy friendly menus and asked Cast Members to suggest their use. However, he again stressed that the Chef will always come out if you ask, and suggests that you ask if you have any questions or concerns. In fact, the chefs insisted that this be recommended at the top of the food allergy friendly menus.

Additionally, we suggest that you review the online versions before you go. Sometimes the food allergy friendly versions are on the Disney site, but you can also find them here, at the Disney Food Allergy group on Facebook or via Google. While they may change a little by the time you arrive, you will still have a good idea what to expect when you arrive and it can help you with your conversation with the chef.

Chef Gary also discussed the process when you travel on Disney Cruise Line. Essentially, your food allergy requests should be sent to the DCL Special Diets team 14 days before you sail, so they can have everything on the ship. He didn’t mention it, but there is also a Dining Session on embarkation day. See more of our Disney Cruise Line food allergy tips.

Chef Gary also discussed a few disclaimers. This included a discussion of the kitchen and that each one as a special prep area for food allergy meals. They do not have separate kitchens. They do have fryers that are peanut and gluten free, but there are no separate kitchens. In the area designated for food allergy prep, they do have dedicated utensils, and other items used just for food allergy meals. But sometimes the dedicated area has to be cleaned and prepped when you arrive, since it may be used for other purposes.

One of the attendees asked about requesting specific brands of foods. Chef Gary said that they have certain specific brands, but those can change. However, specific food brands cannot be requested except in very rare circumstances. Additionally, the chef always knows which brands he has available. Chef Gary didn’t mention it, but we’ve actually reviewed an ingredient list, cut from the box by a chef when we requested it. They can also discuss and “may contain” labeling the food products on hand may have.

Next, he discussed bringing your own food. You can bring it, but Disney cannot store it, keep it cool and prepare your meals with it.

He also had a quick discussion about fryers. While they don’t use peanut oil, the oil they used is a mix that includes soy. So, the french fries do contain soy. He also said they are constantly looking to change that, including possibly using highly refined oil, which is supposed have the allergens removed. However, since the science is not yet clear on highly refined oil, Disney does not use it.

Next, he discussed a new process that is coming soon for buffets. Currently, a chef may offer to walk you through the buffet to explain what is safe or can be modified for you. Then, the chef gives you the option to pull from the buffet or he or she can prepare it fresh for you. For cross-contamination concerns, we recommend the chef prepare it.

Coming soon are food allergy guides for buffets. He explained some testing they did, using signs on the buffets. But said they ultimately decided it was too problematic. So, they developed the guides that explain all of the items and the allergies for which they are safe. Then, you have the option to visit the buffet or speak to the chef to have it prepared fresh. Chef Gary stressed that they are just guides and do not replace the interaction with the chef.

There was also a discussion about kiosks. There is one in Animal Kingdom that has pre-packaged food allergy friendly snacks. Update: Unfortunately, this location no longer has food allergy snacks. He also discussed the logistics of food kiosks, like those in Epcot at the Food and Wine Festival. The food in these kiosks is prepared in a kitchen far away and transported to the kiosks, where many opportunities exist for cross-contamination. And while there are managers in the various kiosk zones that can answer questions and even possibly have food allergy safe alternatives prepared, it does come with some risk. However, they have made some gluten-free options available at some kiosk locations.

Afterward, Chef Gary stopped by our table. We discussed some of our favorite chefs and that they are almost like aunts and uncles to our daughter and more important the Mickey Mouse to us. He confirmed that they are all very passionate and love the interactions with guests and getting to know them over the years.

Aloha Isle is now located near the Magic Carpets of Aladdin and the Tiki Room. Update 12/2017: Aloha Isle re-introduced the vanilla flavor, which contains casein, in machines with pineapple, for swirling. However, they still have a single machine dedicated to pineapple. If there is any confusion, or to verify since they could change at any time, speak to a manager.

In Animal Kingdom, in Africa at Tamu Tamu Refreshments. Here, you’ll find the classic Dole Whip and two varieties with rum.

Dole Whip at Disney’s Polynesian Resort

At Disney’s Polynesian Resort, at the Pineapple Lanai on the way to the pool. Keep in mind, the Dole Whip served here includes the vanilla flavor, which opens up the possibility for cross-contamination. However, make the Cast Member aware of your allergy and they will take extra caution to avoid cross-contamination. If the Cast Member is unsure, ask for a manager. We found out that some Cast Members haven’t taken the training for food allergies. Those that have, are able to serve it safely, reducing the chances of cross-contamination.

You can also find a Dole Whip dispenser in Captain Cooks, the quick service restaurant. It’s a self service dispenser, so there could be a cross-contamination risk from other patrons.

Also, around the corner at the outdoor Trader Sam’s Tiki Bar, you can find Dole Whips with rum, again.

NEW! Dole Whip at Pop Century

Yes, you can find Dole Whip at Disney’s Pop Century Resort. They’ve made many improvements at Everything Pop and the addition of Dole Whip is one of them. Update 5/4/2018: This is a swirled configuration! For machines that swirl with vanilla, there is a possibility of cross-contamination. We’re going to contact the manager and ask about getting a dedicated machine. Until then, proceed with caution if you’re allergic to dairy or soy, as the vanilla soft serve has both, according to the website.

Dole Whip at Disney Springs

Update! You can now get Dole Whip at Marketplace Snacks. Be aware, the dispenser also has the vanilla soft serve. So, there is a cross-contamination possibility. We spoke to the Cast Member who informed us that they do not follow the same process as the Pinapple Lenai, and sometimes switch the mixers containing 200 Release Date - nike gold air chukka moc high school - SBD - nike gold air yeezy glow in the dark sneakers boys Rattan Obsidian CZ4149 the pineapple and vanilla mixes.  Maybe this will change in the future.

Dole Whip at Epcot

Occasionally, you can find Dole Whip at Epcot during festivals, like the Food and Wine Festival, at a kiosk near Canada.

My wife has celiac disease, we ate here last week.(Feb 2017) she had her burger with a lettuce wrap. The fries and all the dipping sauces are gf. We had a great meal and the food was delicious and the staff very informed and helpful. Would highly recommend.

A quick review is really not sufficient for this venue. My wife has celiac. This is not our first time here but we cannot say enough about our February 2017 visit. My wife was ecstatic to get gluten-free onion rings AND French fries. She got a steak salad that she says was absolutely delicious. Every employee of this restaurant was informed and educated on her needs. Our hostess made sure our waitress Lindsey knew of our needs, she thoroughly went through all of our options. Her manager John also looked in and asked if we wanted a chef to come out. Again not our first time there and knew the chefs are all informed. We give this restaurant 5 chef hats and will go back again. We highly recommend it to anyone.

Oh yeah, the dancers, the musicians, the drinks are all out of this world too!

Thanks for a great night, we are already looking forward to our next visit.

My wife has celiac disease, we ate here last week.(Feb 2017) was rather disappointed with our experience. My wife doesn’t eat fish which makes selections more difficult but the choices for a gluten free diner were really slim (she had the chicken) the staff did not seem to be very educated on our needs and while everything was edible nothing at this restaurant stood out as accommodating. Would not recommend this as a go-to place for dining.

This is our go-to quick service place at Epcot. The food is exceptional and we have had countless meals here. We mention the girls allergies–peanuts, tree nuts and sesame every time and have been assured there are none of these allergens present.

My daughter is a guacamole addict and she loves to chow down on that with some of their homemade corn chips.

We also love the Chicken Cascabel –a tasty naked bowl of sorts with rice, beans and tasty tender chicken and SAUCE!! It’s always a winner.

A trip doesn’t go by without the Barbacoa Tacos. Can you say WOW? They are the best tacos on property in my opinion and you get a side of rice and beans with a trio of them. Quick, easy and super affordable. A favorite of everyone in our family.

We tend to avoid Mexican restaurants due to the presence of Mole (which is made with peanut butter) but there is no mole here–which makes it an excellent choice.

We have also eaten the cheese empanadas and while they are good they don’t hold a candle to the Cascabel or the tacos. Same for Nachos–good and great to share among a group for a snack but I wouldn’t pass over the two mentioned above for them.

The best part: HOMEMADE CHURROS!! As all allergy parents know, finding safe dessert options are HARD. These are not your standard Disney churros –you get a basket of 6 (I think?) circular churros and a bowl of hot caramel sauce to dip . My girls favorite part of the meal!

We can’t recommend this place enough–it’s our favorite!

This was my daughter’s favourite meal all week. Chef Jason spoke directly to her and asked her what she wanted to eat. He prepared a gourmet safe burger with toppings of her choice- sautéed onions, pickles, lettuce and ketchup all on a safe bun served with fries and a glowing Ariel lemonade.

The waiter was also happy to serve both of the kids apple slices (listed as a dessert) as a starter, and they brought out a safe chocolate ice-cream sundae. She loved her meal here. There was one minor hiccup here…for some reason a busser/different waiter delivered a bowl of pickles and mayo to the table where she was sitting. Not sure if that is a standard delivery or was a mistake meant for another table, but in the dark it could have easily been missed or mistaken and accidentally consumed by my daughter if she was younger or less aware.

The darkness in this venue and the way the cars are set up (kids in front, parents in back) may be uncomfortable for some allergy parents, as it makes it more challenging to see and inspect the food being delivered and eaten.

Our flight landed earlier than expected and we were able to get a last minute unplanned walk-in seating at this restaurant for lunch. My initial impression of this place was very good. I spoke with the host about whether they could accommodate my daughter’s egg and dairy allergy and they showed me an allergy menu that had several options for those restrictions. The seater who walked us to our seat even asked if the restaurant crayons and cutlery were safe for my daughter to use. However, on the walk to the table she commented on how sad it is for kids to have allergies and how much they miss out on. While I know she was trying to be kind it was a very negative way to start our trip as one of the reasons we love Disney, is because we don’t feel we miss out on anything.

The waiter and seater were more than happy to get the chef for us to speak to. The chef came out and we discussed how he could safely prepare the kids shrimp skewer meal and substitute fries for the rice. We agreed on a safe dessert option of Tofutti Ice-cream, Enjoy Life Cookies and Hershey’s Syrup. He said he would check the ingredients on the sprinkles to see if they were safe for her. He explained that they had a dedicated fryer to make the fries and the food would be safely prepared on a separate grill. At that point I was confident that she would be taken care of. That’s when things went unfortunately very wrong.

A busser brought my daughter her meal to the table stacked underneath her sisters open cheese burger, this unfortunately transferred cheese residue all over the bottom of the plate. There was no allergy stick on the food. We waited to speak with the waiter who told us that they remove the allergy sticks before the food is served? Before we could even address the cross contamination issue we noticed that the order was incorrect…she had been sent brown rice instead of fries. The plate was sent back to the kitchen and I was told a new one would be prepared. Minutes later the skewer of shrimp returned with extra shrimp added to it and a pile of green beans and we were told we would have to wait for fries to be prepared. Concerned about the food, we inspected it closely and found penne noodles covered in an oily residue buried within the green beans. We decided to allow her to eat the shrimp only, which unfortunately by this time were cold and terribly over salted, and waited for the fries which were brought out 10 minutes later. I probably should have complained more but we were so tired and hungry we figured she could at least eat the dessert the chef had promised.

Once again when dessert arrived it was not what was ordered. She was sent a bowl of Tofutti on a plate with Hershey’s M&M’s, Sprinkles and Syrup. I immediately noticed the M&M’s and pushed the dessert away. At this point the waiter, began adamantly stating that M&M’s were safe for dairy allergies. I literally had to google an ingredient list to show him that they contained milk and were not safe. He took them back to the kitchen and then came back and apologized, bringing me a bottle of brand new unopened Hershey’s syrup. The cookies never arrived. I asked to speak with the chef but was told he was too busy with the rush to speak to me about what happened. Instead the waiter offered free light out Tinkerbells and was very apologetic.

We were very happy to have avoided what could have been a very serious reaction. However, the series of events that occurred during this meal service showed me that there were multiple places were further allergy training was required with the staff on duty at the time. We were very glad that this was our only disappointing experience of the entire trip.

A favourite dining experience for our whole family. My kids thought the whole show was hysterical. We were so excited to see that the “famous” Chef TJ would be looking after my daughter’s meal here and he did not disappoint.

He made her a tower of safe foods including her first ever fried chicken, ribs, baked potatoes, corn and a bucket of fresh delicious salad with a safe specially made Italian dressing.

Dessert was a huge tower of sugary delights, cookies and ice-cream topped off with cotton candy and syrup. It was a magical evening that won’t soon be forgotten or topped.

Before dining at this restaurant I reviewed the menu and found on-line versions of the allergy menu so that I would have a good idea of what might be safe for my daughter ahead of time. It was a good thing I did, because we were told that there were no allergy menus available on that day.

The waiter brought the chef who asked what she would like. He told us many of the proteins could be prepared safely. WE asked if the Tiki Tiki Fishy Fishy on the regular kids menu would be safe and he said it was and he would make sure she got some trainer chopsticks to eat it with! She was also able to have the feature frozen slushy from the menu and a full plate of Enjoy Life cookies.

Our favourite character buffet breakfast on property both from a non food allergy and food allergy standpoint. We loved our breakfast experience so much here, we dropped two other breakfast reservations to revisit this place 3 times during our week stay.

The restaurant atmosphere is more spacious and relaxed than some of the other character breakfast locations and the buffet selection is vast and delicious. Chefs Mace and Christian really looked after my daughter here. She had Mickey Waffles, bacon, sausage and smoked salmon, asparagus, sliced tomatoes, fruit loops, Erin McKenna DONUTS, fruits, hot oatmeal, chocolate and regular soy milk. What a treat!

On one of the days I had concerns about the “look” of the allergy waffles. Chef Mace promptly came back to the table and addressed my concerns, taking the time to explain why they looked a bit different and how they had been safely prepared. We felt very safe letting her eat here.

We had a great experience here. The waitress offered to bring the chef to discuss safe options for my daughter. We ordered the beef off the children’s allergy menu and requested plain rice instead of mashed potatoes. It was delicious. There was also a number of safe starter options from the buffet and the chef offered to bring her a plate of safe things to sample and make a garden salad with a simple oil and vinegar dressing. I thought it was great that he was willing to prepare several foods for her to try just like everyone else. We were surprised to find out that she loved the peppered Mackerel! There were also several safe options for dessert, but we had ordered a cake from Erin McKenna’s, so decided to pass on any other options here.

We had lunch at the Crystal Palace and had a wonderful experience. My daughter has multiple food allergies – and she was only 3 at the time – so finding something for her to eat is never easy. We let the server know about her allergies, and very soon thereafter, the chef came to our table to show me what was safe at the buffet. There were a few options, but of course she wanted something they didn’t have, a hot dog with french fries. The chef immediately told me that was not a problem at all; he would just ask the nearest restaurant with those items to send them over. He said they did that all the time and was happy to do so for us.

We didn’t wait long at all, and she especially didn’t notice the wait because she was hugging all the characters. They brought her two hot dogs and a huge pile of french fries with a side of fruit. She was happy, and we all had a great time.

Hi! last week we took our first trip to Disney as a family. Our 12yr old son has celiac which was a huge concern for us as he is a picky eater as it is.

We had a FANTASTIC experience! The Chef’s at all of the restaurants except for San Angel Inn came out to talk to our son and were willing to make him anything he wanted. The Chef at Crystal Palace walked us around the entire buffet and mentioned what was gluten free and told our son that if he wanted something else he would make it but he did quite well with the turkey, rice and green beans.

We had dinner at Rainforest Cafe in Disney Springs, Crystal Palace, Sci-Fi Diner, San Angel Inn, Shutters at the Caribbean Beach Resort and Raglan Road. San Angel Inn was not very accommodating therefore we did not have a good experience there and felt very rushed by the waiter. Caribbean Beach resort was fantastic including the quick service. Also quick service at Cosmic Rays and Columbia Harbour House were fantastic!

Overall a great gluten free experience.

Miserable experience here tonight. Chef basically said: don’t eat anything but the meat. Said he’d make me a roll and salad. Salad didn’t come until my entire party was done eating. Still haven’t gotten the roll. Couldn’t eat any of the appetizers and he didn’t offer me any substitutions except rice or plain noodles. Now, I like meat as much as the next person, but a dinner it does not make. We’re on the dining plan so I paid the same amount to eat meat that everyone else did for an entire meal. He did come up w an allergy friendly dessert that was pretty much just vanilla ice cream, berries, and chocolate syrup. Not at all original or unique.

As a side note, the service was miserable too. Never asked if we wanted a kid’s meal for the 4 year old in our party or if we wanted any alcoholic drinks.

We attended the character breakfast, which was awesome, and so was the food. The waitress worked with the chef, both checking on us frequently to ensure we got what we needed and were satisfied.

The chef personally delivers all of my safe foods. I could not eat the bread, but I didn’t need it! The waffles, eggs, breakfast sausage, potatoes and fruit were all awesome! I had my own plate and they have the Earth Balance soy free “butter” which I love. Beware of syrup if you have a dairy allergy. All around Disney, they use butter in their syrup. Ask for the pure maple syrup. It’s delicious too!

I was nervous about this one due to the family style dining setup, but was blown away by my wonderful experience. Every step of the way, from check in to the hostess to our waitress to the chef, they confirmed my allergies. The chef indicated that none of the traditional dining that is brought from table to table was safe, but that he would prepare my food separately and bring it out. I expected bland basics, but everything was delicious.

As it is family style, there is a set menu and no choices. Here is what I was brought.
-green salad with vinaigrette
-gluten free rolls with I’m assuming earth balance, but it didn’t look quite right so I skipped it
-ginger chicken wings (no sauce)
-steamed white rice with veggies (onion, baby corn, broccoli, mushroom, water chestnuts)
-grilled chicken, grilled shrimp, steak–all very tender despite no sauce
-enjoy life soft double chocolate chip cookies with fruit (the only mediocre course)

I would highly recommend this experience! I left stuffed and there was more than I could possibly have eaten brought to me. Excellent flavors and very friendly and reassuring staff.

I had an awesome experience here! I went for the quick service lunch, and ordered the carved turkey sandwich. I ensured that the cast member was aware of my allergies, as you should as well, should you dine here, as the food may come out before you meet the server, which is what happened to me.

I also had ordered a masters cupcake. A leader and the server brought out my food, and the only difference in the food from the non allergy food was the cupcake didn’t have the pearl type decorations on top, and the sandwich wasn’t served on the baguette. Instead of the baguette I got two sandwiches on a different bread.

Very good experience!

I was very excited to dine at Be Our Guest, as this restaurant wasn’t open yet when I was last in Disney. Unfortunately, due to my allergies, I was too scared about eating at a QS restaurant so I opted to dine here for dinner early one evening.

The chef came out, per my request, and went over my options. For appetizer, I decided on the onion soup without cheese or croutons (Chef seemed somewhat unsure, so I just opted out). It was very delicious! It reminded me of the onion soup I used to eat back in the day, pre-allergy. For dinner, I opted for the skirt steak with roasted fingerling potatoes. It was very delicious and flavorful!

Unfortunately, my dessert options were limited to sorbet, enjoy life cookies (just the boring chocolate chip ones), and rice dream. I wasn’t too fond of any of the options, so I took the cookies for the go.

Overall, it was a very delicious meal and I most certainly will be back!

Although I am usually very apprehensive with pre-fixe menus given my allergies, I decided to give Hoop-De-Doo Musical Revue a try since it got great reviews. When my waiter got to the table, I immediately informed him of my food allergies and he called over Chef TJ. Chef TJ made me a modified version of the what was served to everyone else (fried chicken, ribs (no sauce), corn, and baked potato). For dessert, chef TJ made me one of his special concoctions. I was literally stuffed from dinner so I didn’t eat much of the dessert. Overall, this was an amazing experience. Disney is truly a magic place, especially for those with food allergies!

We’ve been home for 4 days now and I’m in Disney withdrawal.  It didn’t help that we got a few flakes of snow this afternoon.  Boo!

Anyway, since I still have Disney on the brain, I thought I’d take a few minutes to tell you how our trip went, and our experiences at the different restaurants with our daughter’s milk and egg allergy. Initially, it had been my intention to take proper photos and write some reviews, but I usually food we were so hungry by the time the food came, it always slipped my mind!

Overall, we had a positive experience.  Our daughter did not suffer any allergic reactions, and we were able to find  allergy safe snacks and treats around Disney.  We found the table service restaurants all good at accommodating her allergy, though some offered more selection to her than others, and some chefs stood out more in their willingness to prepare something “special” for her.  We did find the allergy menus were pushed on us, and in two cases the chefs refused to make anything not listed on the children’s allergy safe menu.  (Ill elaborate in more below).  At  character buffets the chefs wanted us to walk the buffet with them, but when I said I didn’t want my daughter to eat off the buffet they always brought food directly from the kitchen without any further issue.  We had multiple minor issues at QS places, which left be feeling frustrated and frankly nervous about trusting the kitchen staff.

This was our worst experience.  The place was jammed packed and noisy.  When I reached the cashier (an older man), I asked if I could see an allergy menu and speak with a manger about my daughters allergy.  There was already another mom looking at an allergy menu.  He asked me which ones, and when I said milk and eggs, he raised a sign in the air and yelled “Allergy.  We got another allergy here.”  Then he motioned for me to stand aside and said, “I cant do anything for more than one allergy.  You have to wait to see a manager.”

The manager asked the age of my daughter and then said she could only have the items from the CHILDREN’S meal that were safe for her.  No hamburger.  I had to wait 20 minutes to see a manager, then an additional 20 minutes for allergy safe hotdog and the rest of the party’s food.  The kid behind the counter kept saying to me (although I never asked him any questions)…”if you gonna order an allergy meal, your gonna have to wait.”  I didn’t mind waiting, I just felt awkward being made to feel like I was the cause of everyone behind me also waiting.

Chef Amber was a standout for us on our vacation.  When she found out that my daughter had never eaten in a restaurant before, due to her allergies, she went out of her way to make our night special.  My daughter saw a hotdog on the kids menu, but was told they did not have a safe hotdog bun or French fries.  However, Chef Amber brought her gluten free buns to make her own mini hotdogs, baked her some fries in the oven and made her green beans.

She also made my daughter her own, make your own sundae bar, with rice dream ice cream, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, Mickey sprinkles, crushed Enjoy Life cookies and Cotton Candy!  She was in heaven and talked about Amber all week!  Amber gave both daughters a lei and told us to email her directly if we were coming back so she could prepare something special for the girls.  She was really a stand out chef on our vacation.

The Chef (Enrico?) took me around the buffet and kept telling me it was fine for her to eat off the buffet.  I insisted that we couldn’t risk cross contamination from eggs and dairy and he seemed a little put out initially.  However, after some effusive graciousness and even a couple of thankful tears from mum, he made her a huge plate of Mickey waffles, brought out smoked salmon roses decorated with fruits and plates of safe meats.

Her also gave her a Mickey cupcake for later.  All in all a great meal (just too bad about the initial buffet pushiness).

Chef Paul made a wonderful meal for daughter of Grilled Fish, Rice Pilaf and Steamed Asparagus.  He also brought out safe breads and Earth Balance butter.  Dessert was an ice cream sundae with Enjoy Life Mickey Ears.  She loved her dinner.

Chef Paul was extremely friendly and nice to us, even thought the restaurant was very busy.  He made me feel like it was no trouble to prepare her something and had no problem switching things around from the allergy menus to make her a meal she would enjoy. My husband and I also loved our meals (we both had a different fish special) at this restaurant.

Just like at Chef Mickey’s, we were encouraged to review the buffet to point out items safe for our food allergies, and again we told the chef it wasn’t worth the risk of cross-contamination. So the chef brought out waffles (bit of a bummer that they were Vans and not Mickey waffles, but oh well), fruit, granola, and bacon.

My husband and I liked the Norwegian fish options here. The only thing I didn’t like at this restaurant was that the table was so small it was hard to fit our family style platter on it that was full of the foods my daughter was allergic to.  I probably would avoid breakfast here again because of that.

After speaking with manager, we were told the only thing safe for my daughter on the children’s menu was the beef stir-fry or the chicken leg meal.  The manager said it had to be served with the listed allergy menu sides and we could not change them since they were safe for her allergy.  She said it was fine for her to have the food from behind the counter that was being dished out by the servers, but when I said I was uncomfortable about cross contamination she said there wouldn’t be any.  But changed her mind when I showed her the server using the same utensil for multiple items.  Actually the manager seemed confused by the whole allergy menu thing and had to keep going to the back to “double check” things with the chefs. She also asked twice for me to confirm which allergens and marked soy instead of egg initially.   It really made me feel uneasy.

So we ended up settling on just green beans and chicken leg and bought our daughter a whole box of Enjoy Life cookies and some other safe labelled packaged items.  Our meals were also disappointing here.  I would not go back.  I had hoped it served fresh/ethnic type dishes, but it seemed more like greasy high school cafeteria.  Big bummer for us.

Great waiter and Great Chef.  I thought at first the chef was a bit grumpy as he just stood there and asked what we wanted, but then he brought out loads of safe foods for our daughter and even gave me some packaged Soy Milks to go.

They also made her a brownie/ice cream dessert since they brought out a birthday cupcake for her sister.  I liked that they were considerate enough to privately ask me whether it was okay to bring out different surprise desserts or if I would want them to be the same.  This was our favourite character breakfast for service and fun for the kids. (Food was better than we expected for us.)

Great job accommodating our daughter’s allergies.  She had a lot of choices and we settled on allergy safe tuna sushi rolls as a starter for the whole table, and she had steak, veg and rice from the children’s meal.  The only disappointment was that they didn’t have a more “exciting” dessert option for her.  She had the fruit kabob minus the yogurt as they said that was the only option.  The waiter kept pushing dessert for me, and I had to explain that I didn’t want to eat a yummy dessert when my daughter could only have 4 pieces of fruit.  Bummer, but we went to Magic Kingdom and got a Dole Whip to make up for it.  Not the end of the world and she didn’t mind having fruit (I was the one disappointed to skip my yummy dessert.  LOL)

Overall another great dinner. My husband and I loved our bison steaks here and our other daughter was excited to have pizza..a rare treat for the sister of a diary allergic kid.

The kids loved this restaurant.  We ordered the allergy safe Naan and three dips including the hummus which our daughter ate with a spoon.  She loved the bread, we were okay with the bread (I personally would have preferred the regular Naan, but we wanted to keep things inclusive for the table.  For allergy free Naan it was delish!  A treat for gluten free folks for sure!

Our daughter really wanted curried lentils but they were not on the allergy kids menu.  No problem at all for her.  The chef was happy to make her the fish and give her sides of lentils and Israeli couscous. Kids were not a fan of the mango sorbet here (too sweet compared to what they are used to at home), but they picked it from a few options..so that was not for lack of choice.

Overall our daughter loved her meal here-she said it was her favourite non character meal.  We had a great window table.

The chef arrived promptly at the table and explained he would make our daughter her own wok with everything but the eggs and her own safe waffles.

The kids loved the characters and their meal, but overall, my husband and I found the food quality at this character buffet the most disappointing.  For our personal tastes, it was too salty and greasy, without many healthier alternatives like we were able to find at the other buffets.

We had a great experience here.  I was really nervous before hand because of all the bad reviews I had read on line, however, we enjoyed our food and the whole experience.

We had a 5 PM reservation and were seated on-time.  The waitress brought out the allergy menus and told me if I ordered directly from the menu with no alterations I would not need to speak with a chef…I told her I preferred to speak with one anyway and she was very obliging.  She even said, she didn’t blame me and she would want to speak with one as well.

I was very impressed with the amount of options available to my daughter on this menu. She had a least 5-6 things she would choose from.  Again I think she chose the fish, rice and broccoli and cookies for dessert. Her sister was in heaven with her first ever macaroni and cheese and I had the lamb chops which were cooked perfectly to medium rare. We were also happy to get a bottle of wine and at a decent price. Service was really prompt and we were able to be out of the restaurant in 75 minutes, waiting only at the end for The Beast to return.  I had expected bad theme park food here, and was pleasantly surprised.  The grey stuff though….not so delicious.  Boo.  Had to try it for myself though.  LOL

This restaurant was another pleasant surprise.  I also expected terrible food, but we thought it was completely decent.  Maybe not 5 star, but better than okay.

The best surprise was allergy safe nuggets on the menu.  Our daughter would have been happy with the other choices too, but she was thrilled to see allergy safe nuggets and I think for a kids restaurant this was really special.  She’s not a “nugget only kid”, but it was a treat for her, that maybe “nugget kids” would take for granted.  I can’t even find allergy safe nuggets at home, unless I make them myself.

Chef Edson, was another top chef!  He made her a great dessert out of the ice cream/cookies they had ( and a safe cupcake I brought for her).  Her dessert actually trumped our other daughter’s birthday cupcake and peanut butter s’more thing she ordered.

I saved this one for last because we ate here for 3 breakfasts, one lunch, one dinner and a packed lunch for our daughter for the journey home.  I have mixed feelings about this place.  In general we were satisfied with the breakfast food quality here, but really did not enjoy the lunch or dinner we had here.

The bbq chicken pizza my husband ordered was goopy and covered in sickly sweet bbq sauce, mayo (?) and mounds of greasy cheese.  I had a grilled steak salad and could barely eat it because it was swimming in dressing and oil.

However, the main issue at this place was the inconsistency between the managers when ordering our daughter’s food.  On our first visit, the manager told me the only safe option on the dinner menu for our daughter was the allergy tenders and fries.  In her words, “they are the only thing I can for sure guarantee”.  So that’s what we ordered. She also gave us a cupcake from Chef Mickey’s.

But then the next manager at lunch told me she had a lot of options and proceeded to pull out the allergy menu.  The tuna sandwich was listed on the egg allergy menu, which I thought was suspicious.  I questioned the manager (young blonde lady) and she kept saying the tuna sandwich was fine because it was on the menu.  She offered to get the ingredients binder which on closer inspection listed :”egg yolk” as I suspected in the mayo.  Then she continued to try and convince me that it was still safe because “egg” was not listed in bold as an allergen despite the clear listing of it in the ingredient.  I lost all confidence and asked if we could just have the allergy tenders again made in the dedicated fryer.  I also asked if we could have a cupcake, and she said no they were for Chef Mickey’s guests only.  She gave me a small pack of Enjoy Life cookies.

Later that evening I went back to Contempo to see if I could get a cupcake for our daughter to take to CRT the next day.  The male manager at the time, got me 2 from Chef Mickeys but as he handed them over, said “you got the last two from Chef Mickey’s, now they don’t even have any.”  This made me feel really bad.  I hope we didn’t ruin the night for another allergy kid.  On our second and third breakfast, Brenda was available to help me order breakfast and a safe lunch for our ride home.  She was fabulous, making our daughter waffles and giving us lots of those little packets of fruit and carrots to have in the parks.   She packed our daughter a goldfish sandwich and gave her some extra treats.  Thank you Brenda!

On our final day at Disney World, we decided to stop into Everything Pop for one more safe meal before hitting the road. Following the same steps to request a chef, we met Chef Heather. This time, after explain her food allergies, she requested grilled chicken and fries. And Chef Heather delivered! Charlotte said it was one of the best meals she had on this trip. Afterwards, she had a few small cupcakes from Erin McKenna’s Bakery, which is also available at Everything Pop!

As mentioned in the news story, Giovanni and his family traveled to Bellingham, Washington, because his father, George Alvarado, wanted to visit as part of his “bucket list” — he has terminal throat cancer. The reaction by Allegiant Airlines and the other passengers soured what was supposed to be a trip of fond memories.

We want to send this boy and his family on a Disney Cruise and we’re turning to our food allergy community to help, since we all know what it’s like to be excluded from activities, including flying on certain other airlines, due to allergies. We feel a cruise, also on George’s bucket list,  would help make up for the mental anguish caused by Allegiant and some of their customers. Plus, Giovanni can meet Pluto on a Disney Cruise, a dog he isn’t allergic to!

We ate three meals a day and tried to walk if off… I’m still dieting to lose the extra pounds!

Disneyland is different than Walt Disney World in the food allergy world. You wouldn’t know the difference unless you visit Disney World often or know where to go see special over the top chefs such as Chef Frank at Hollywood & Vine, Chef Ron at Crystal Palace or Chef TJ at Trails End. However, Disneyland has some very talented chefs as well. You won’t find allergy-free cupcakes, brownies, or ice cream, but you can order an allergy-free cake and have it delivered to your resort room or a restaurant. We did this and we were so glad we did. We took it back to the resort, the Grand Californian, and our daughter ate it all week.

As for the Disneyland park… we loved it!

As for the California Adventures park… we loved it!

It’s like a boutique Disney World. You can walk everywhere!

The chefs were wonderful and we have to say our very best meals were at Plaza Inn for breakfast, Carthay Circle for lunch, Steakhouse 55 for dinner, and Flo’s V8 Cafe for quick service. You have to see Cars Land at night!

Oh… we met Chef Oscar Martinez. He has worked at Disneyland since it opened in 1955! He welcomed us with a hug and shared fond memories of the beginnings of Disneyland. Flash forward to last week, when we asked Chef Randy at Sanaa to sign an apron, he saw Chef Oscar’s name on the apron and said “Oh, I have heard of him… he’s the longest working chef at Disney.” Chef Oscar would have been so thrilled that this incredibly skilled chef at Sanaa knew about him! Chef Oscar shared with us that the window above the Carnation Cafe, where he has worked for years, will have his name added, when he retires… which will probably be quite a while!

We went to 50’s Prime Time specifically for my wife to have the gluten free fried chicken. We followed all of the suggestions online, we listed the allergy when making the reservation. We called Disney dining two hours ahead as suggested, they said there was no need to call ahead. When we got to the restaurant gluten free fried chicken was not an option, our waitress Tiffany said that you need to call the restaurant 24 in advance. This is evidently because they do not keep the dedicated allergen fryer at temperature at all times.

She got chef Frank who said no worries the oil was already at temperature. They got the bartender to customize a wheat free cocktail, and my wife actually cried when she ate fried chicken for the first time in 5 years. The take away is leave nothing to chance, call the restaurant directly the
day before your reservation. The staff was really great, and very accommodating.

The bad news: Unfortunately, the ice cream shops and coffee shop are now contracted out to private companies and no longer offer allergy-friendly options. We were unable to find dairy-free ice cream for Kyle or safe cookies for me.

Tip: Order safe treats delivered to your hotel (the day or two before you arrive) and bring some with you into the parks each day. They sell fresh fruit at many carts throughout both parks – a safe snack. Or, there’s a Walmart close to the park that you can stop at for snacks to bring into the parks with you – we had bananas and apples, mostly because I am unfamiliar with what other snack items would be safe in America.

The good news: We had a reaction-free holiday at Disney! (Except one runny nose incident due to my own error – I didn’t realize a salad came with cheese on top, and didn’t mention the intolerance, so I picked around the cheese and still ended up with a horrible runny nose. We still don’t know if it’s an allergy or not but I avoid it either way.)

Food Allergy Reviews

WestJet (airline) – The travel agent marked my allergies on my ticket when booking our flights. Before boarding, I was paged to the gate to confirm my allergens and they made sure I had my auto injectors on my person. On the plane, the flight attendants asked me again to confirm my allergens, that I had my autoinjectors, and then asked whether I wanted a buffer zone or full plane announcement made. (On the flight home I was only given the option of a full plane announcement.) Announcements were made and all was good.

The Pizza Press (a restaurant just outside Disneyland in the Carousel Inn and Suites, on South Harbor Boulevard) – $10 for a pizza with unlimited toppings. All of their ingredients are fresh and prepared on site. The crusts do not have dairy. The pesto does not have nuts. They do not use any nuts, peanuts, or sesame on site. They change (latex) gloves between each order and will use both fresh toppings and supplies if you mention dairy intolerance. The staff were extremely allergy aware and fantastic! The pizza was pretty good too. (Those with anaphylaxis to dairy should use their own judgement as cross contact in a pizza shop is pretty high.)

Plaza Inn (character breakfast, Disneyland) – The chef came out to take orders for those with allergies. The selection was fairly limited but the chef brought out plates heaped with safe foods: Mickey waffles (contain dairy), bacon, sausage, fruit, potatoes, tomatoes. (Alas, their regular waffles contain dairy and their gluten-free waffles are made with a mix that may contain tree nuts and sesame.) Characters were abundant: Minnie, Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Max, Fairy Godmother, Hook, Rafiki. We had reservations for as soon as the restaurant opened for Early Magic Hour. Our 4-day park hopper included an early magic hour morning but we did not have to use it for this morning as those with breakfast reservations have a special entrance to the park. This let us use our early morning another day. Be sure to use the breakfast entrance if you have reservations! This is a very good option if you wish to visit characters without waiting in queues, as the characters come to you, interact with you, and you can have your photos taken (with your own camera).

PhotoPass+ – Absolutely recommend this!! We had 400+ photos in only 4 days. Order this online ahead of you trip (minimum 14 days before) to receive all of your character meal photos, ride photos, photographer photos, and stock photos on CD for $65 (I think). Best deal ever! If you wait until you get to the park, this same package is $100. Still worth it, but pre-ordering offers HUGE savings. (The character breakfast photos alone were $35, or free when included with the photo package.) We had our character breakfast on the first morning we were in the parks, when the photo shop was closed. The photographer at the restaurant was able to activate our PhotoPass+ package and give us our card to use for our stay. You can also merge PhotoPass cards together onto your PhotoPass+ account, so if your group separates you can still have all your photos together. DEFINITELY get this package, and do so 14+ days ahead of your trip!!

Allergy ingredient binders: Just like WDW, all food locations have binders with ingredients. Quick service locations can call a chef to answer any questions you may have (if one is not already on site.)

Cotton candy and turkey legs were safe for peanut and sesame allergies. (I was too anxious to try the cotton candy so I didn’t ask if it was safe for tree nuts or dairy, and I was assured the only two ingredients were sugar and food dye, but not sure about cross-contact risk.)

River Belle Terrace (Fantasmic! dinner package, Disneyland) – Per usual, the chef came to our table to discuss the menu options that would be safe for allergies. The food was just okay – similar to quick service food quality. The dining room was VERY noisy due to poor acoustics. It was difficult to enjoy a quiet meal there. The FastPass tickets for Fantastic! were well worth it, as the dining package guests have a reserved area front and centre with an amazing amount of room. We stretched out and had plenty of room to watch the show with clear line of sight. The best way to watch Fantastic!, for sure.

Blue Bayou (inside the Pirates of Caribbean ride, Disneyland) – Again, the chef came out to discuss our options. The food quality was excellent. The marinated mushroom with cous cous was safe for all allergens and special diets in our group. The bread was safe for sesame and peanut allergies – a rare treat for my mother!

Wine Country Trattoria (California Adventure) – We mentioned allergies and were immediately given allergy menus, listing the dishes that are safe for various allergens. Chef Sean came out to talk to us and review menu items, including some that weren’t on the safe list but turned out to be safe if the bread was left off (for instance). He spent a long time at our table and mentioned how he and another chef were in charge of menu development and stressed over the allergy menu, wondering whether it would be helpful and insisting that people with allergies talk to the chef, even after reviewing the menu in case something had changed. The chefs make allergy meals themselves and take extra care to prevent cross-contact with allergens. Chef Sean was amazing and the food we had was incredible!

Rancho Del Zocalo (quick service, Disneyland) – Hurray for Mexican food! Upon mentioning food allergies, the greeter went to get the chef for us to discuss safe options and make our meals. She was careful to review all the ingredients in each dish to make sure we were satisfied with what we ordered. The chef made our meals herself, the portions were very large, and the food was very good. I highly recommend this restaurant for guests with special diets – as well as the Mexican quick service restaurant in California Adventure. (We dined there several times on a previous trip.)

Steakhouse 55 (fine dining, table service, Disneyland Hotel) – Breakfast here is very reasonably priced, the portions are satisfying, and the service was impeccable! Once again, the chef came to our table to discuss the many options available. The chef and server came out several times to confirm every ingredient, verify preferences, and customize our order to meet every need and request. I highly recommend dining here for breakfast. We’ll definitely dine here on our next trip – frequently, if time permits.

Tip (not really a tip, but more of a critical instruction to follow to keep your sanity): GET TO THE PARK EARLY!!!! I know that’s a given with any Disney park, but the entrance area at Disneyland is really crowded from opening time until about two hours later. As in extremely crowded parking lot of people. It’s mad really. Just arrive 15-20 minutes before park opening and you’ll walk right in with little to no queue. (Plan to arrive 30 minutes early to get through bag check.) The entrance area is shared between the two parks, so it’s twice the amount of people in one small area that turns into a zoo of really long queues. No thanks.

But this year, we are beyond excited about the food allergy chef demonstrations.

We had a wonderful experience at the Crystal Palace for breakfast with my two year old. By far his favorite meal of the trip, we like to arrive early before the park opens and enjoy breakfast without feeling rushed.

The chef arrived and took me straight to the buffet – Nearly everything was safe for my son. However, he was very clear to point out the items that were not and to tell me why. For instance, most of the baked goods were not and he made a point of telling me about the one that had almond flour – he was very clear and reassuring. He also told me if we needed anything special to let him know. He spent a lot of time making himself available in the dining room and I was very impressed by the service and care.

After eating at Chef Mickey’s the evening before, I had low expectations. Crystal Palace will remain on our dining list for every Disney vacation.

Walt Disney World – November 2014

I’ve only heard of the legendary Chef TJ and the works of edible art he creates. We had a free evening and were able to get some reservations, and were completely blown away. Whilst my husband ate from the buffet, Chef TJ created a six-course meal for me. It was more food than I could eat in two days, yet alone one meal!

To start: a basic salad with some grilled vegetables and a vinaigrette dressing.

Next up… and I thought this was my main course: vegetarian spring rolls with a sweet and sour type sauce on top. They were delicious! I ate them all. Then Chef TJ came out to say my second appetiser was on its way. Second appetiser???

Chef TJ is truly amazing! This was the second appetiser: coconut carrot ginger soup (my new favourite soup), with some nacho toast? I wasn’t really sure what it was, but it was toast with salsa and melted Daiya cheese with a barbecue sauce on top. Pretty good, actually, but I liked the soup better so it disappeared first. I couldn’t finish this course, especially with the thought of an entrée and dessert yet to come…

And there it was, the main event, and it really was an event. Grilled tofu strips with roasted vegetables, barbecued potatoes, and a delicious barbecue sauce. It was like nothing I had tasted before, and it was amazing. Of course, I couldn’t eat half of it (and even that was a challenge), so Chef TJ boxed it up for us to take back to our resort. (We ate it for breakfast the next day…)

And then an epic dessert: a tower of fruit and chocolate with a cupcake, swimming in strawberry sauce. Pretty much the best dessert ever… so I had to find room to eat some of it. (The rest was packed up for breakfast…)

After two hours of eating, because the meal took at least that long (really), we waddled back to the bus stop and back to our hotel room. I would definitely recommend visiting Trail’s End when Chef TJ is working. Just come hungry, and don’t rush. My husband wanted to return to Trail’s End once more during our trip, because of how well I was treated and how happy I was with my meal, but I didn’t think my stomach could handle that much food twice in one holiday. (I never thought I’d say that.)

Port Orleans Riverside
Two words: Mickey Waffles!! Every single morning (except the day we ate leftovers from Trail’s End). Add some fresh strawberries and pure maple syrup and I couldn’t be happier. Pretty much the best breakfast you can get at Walt Disney World – or possibly anywhere. (These were Namaste brand mix made with apple juice.) I wish they made Mickey waffle makers to buy and use at home.

Magic Kingdom – Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
The first thing we noticed about the Christmas Party, by looking at the map, was that they now advertise that they have EpiPens at the first aid stations – kudos to Disney for that. Next, they said there were free cookies and hot chocolate at select locations. Not exactly exciting for people with allergies, but I asked if they had any alternates and was given options – yes, options! – of apple juice, apple slices (prepackaged), and/or Enjoy Life cookies (prepackaged). I was pretty excited to have choices, all of which I liked. We were able to get the same safe snack options both times we went to the Christmas Party, and from different locations within the park.

Animal Kingdom – Allergy Food Kiosk
A food cart dedicated to food for people with special diets, wow! I could only have the Enjoy Life cookies and bananas, but just the whole idea that something like this exists is fantastic! My husband ordered some Tofutti frozen dessert, especting a small scoop in a bowl, and was happily surprised to get a whole TUB of frozen dessert. It was the highlight of his trip, even more than meeting the talking Mickey Mouse. I don’t think he was sad that I couldn’t have any, because he ate the whole tub himself and had a grin on his face for the rest of the day. And we went back another day… and he couldn’t stop smiling the whole day.

Other:
We dined at many other Disney restaurants during our trip: Rose and Crown, Le Cellier Chaussures, sacs et vêtements | Livraison Gratuite, The Wave (twice), California Grill (during the fireworks), Tony’s Town Square, and more… I just didn’t get pictures at them all. (Kyle was only taking photos of my food whenever I was really excited about something, or not so thrilled on Castaway Cay.) The Wave was one of our favourites, definitely, and we’ll go there for lunch every day we are in the Magic Kingdom next trip, I think. Their autumn curry stew was so good I ordered it twice this trip.

Disney Dream – November 2015

Palo

On every one of our four Disney cruises, everyone kept telling us that we had to dine a Palo. With food allergies, intolerances, and preferences, we weren’t sure if we could eat anything there or if it would be worth it. Well, we were wrong, and everyone else was right. We made reservations at Palo for our most recent cruise, and will do so for every future Disney cruise we take.

Per our main dining room server’s recommendation, we went to Palo the evening before our reservation to talk to the restaurant manager, Gonzalo. We were able to sit down with Gonzalo to discuss our restrictions. He reviewed some menu ideas with us and assured us that our meals would be perfectly safe. They would even make dessert!

With excitement (and a little hesitation on my part), we arrived for our reservation. We were treated to a spectacular experience; the best food and service on our entire holiday. They made me fresh bread – bread, just for me! – with artichoke hearts and three types of olives, topped with olive oil and 8 year-old balsamic vinegar. Our salad was arugula with grilled asparagus, tomato, courgette, and shredded carrot, again toped with the delightful olive oil and vinegar and a selection of specialty salts. (Smoked salt is my favourite.) The salad has so many flavours. Being an Italian restaurant, the entrée was penne pasta with olive oil, sun dried tomatoes, arugula, garlic, and fresh basil. The flavours complemented each other perfectly. For dessert they made lemon sorbet, strawberry basil sorbet, and fresh berries. We both loved the strawberry basil sorbet! (I would have had seconds if I wasn’t so full.)

Each step of the way, Gonzalo was checking in, explaining ingredients, and making sure everything was perfect. It was a perfect evening and we are counting down the days until we can check in and make Palo reservations for our next Disney cruise (in June 2015).

Cabanas

We had some pretty good food in the main dining rooms on this cruise. However, our schedule didn’t always align with the main dining room hours. After running the Castaway Cay 5K, you get pretty hungry… so I pre-ordered some pancakes and fruit at Cabanas for after the run. (I actually ordered waffles, but they couldn’t make them for allergies due to cross-contact.) It took about ten minutes for the chef to prepare my order, and then I had more pancakes and fruit than I could eat. Thankfully, my husband was willing to help me out.

Castaway Cay

As usual, I preordered my meal for on the island. This time, I asked for one of my favourite things to eat at home: rice and beans. I think the chefs took it a little too literally, as I had plain rice and plain beans mixed together without any seasonings or vegetables or anything. Not exactly my favourite meal of the trip, but not as bad as the vegetarian chilli I had the day before (also on Castaway Cay, it tasted like ketchup). Thank goodness they had some fresh fruit and plain Lays crisps to munch on. Overall, the food I had on Castaway Cay was less than stellar, but at least it was safe. Next time I’ll be much more specific when I preorder my meal for on the island. (Kyle had some vegetarian options on his plate – much more to choose from, and I was a bit jealous of his mixed rice.)

Lactose Intolerance can be set up on your online check-in by yourself. The menus all have Gluten and Dairy Free options listed now… however you can email SpecialServices@disneycruise.com and they will add GF to your file as well (seems that this is better for serious gluten sensitivity).

For the embarkation lunch, go to the sit down restaurant buffet. Your allergy is attached to your room number so the server will know about you before they even say hi! They will bring over the chef who will walk you through the buffet, but then bring you un-cross-contaminated food from the kitchen (was really quick to do this).

Another option for breakfast and lunch is to pre-order the night before with your server, but take it to go from the main restaurant. That way you can join your party by the pool or in the buffet without having to get food from there (as long as you don’t mind carrying your tray).

At dinner the chef was always making me special desserts (creamy ones with no dairy, they also had chocolate lava cake GF/DF) – lots of choices. Also, they will make you as much as want for any meal – just ask!

No food was allowed off the ship for shore excursions due to local customs officers (so plan shorter excursions).

Overall, I never had to worry, the servers were all right on top of things and took it all quite seriously. Even when I ordered a strawberry daiquiri they took the time to check the ingredients (I just figured its rum, strawberries, and sugar but he took the time to double check when I didn’t even give it a second thought!). Both
servers, plus the head server, took the time to come over at every meal and check up on my satisfaction from the food for the day.

If you have an allergy, this is one place you can just let go and enjoy yourself!

They hope to have them available by the end of November at Disney Parks and by the end of the year on Disney Cruise Lines.

We’re excited to announce that Mylan Inc. has entered into a multi-year strategic alliance agreement with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts to help enhance access to EpiPen® (epinephrine) and EpiPen Jr® (epinephrine) Auto-Injectors and increase awareness of anaphylaxis, a life-threatening (severe) allergic reaction.

Each year, millions of guests visit Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in the U.S. — many of whom are living with and/or managing severe allergies — so for us, this alliance was the perfect fit.

As you know, food allergies are on the rise and continue to be a serious health issue in America. To date, 46 states have passed policies that allow/require schools to maintain undesignated epinephrine auto-injectors for those who may experience anaphylaxis. Our hope is that the positive trend we have seen in the school setting will expand to other public settings.

The corporate alliance between Mylan and Disney will:

The agreement includes updated maps in Disney’s domestic theme parks and on its cruise ships as well as updated signage in the parks that highlight locations with EpiPen® (epinephrine) and EpiPen Jr® (epinephrine) Auto-Injectors. Over time, the companies also will introduce a variety of educational resources designed to increase awareness of and preparedness for severe allergic reactions.

EpiPen® locations will roll out at Disney parks and on cruise ships beginning in late 2014. In addition to emergency medical services (EMS), nurses trained to administer EpiPen Auto-Injectors are available during First Aid station operating hours to assist guests experiencing a severe allergic reaction. To help guests identify EpiPen locations, Disney’s guide maps will now include an EpiPen Auto-Injector symbol and new signage at First Aid stations.

I am writing this review as a reminder that as good as Disney is with food allergies, major mistakes can still be made. I went to the Contempo Cafe for breakfast in May 2014, and after speaking with the manager put in my order for an allergen free Mickey waffle. When the cashier entered our order into the computer, she forgot to mark my meal as an allergy, so a regular waffle was brought to me instead.

Since it was our first day there, I was unaware that a manager always hand delivers allergy friendly meals to the guests who ordered them, so I assumed that the waffle brought to me was the allergy-friendly one and ate it. By the time the manager came to correct the problem, I had eaten the entire waffle full of gluten and whole milk. The manager handled everything very well, making sure I had Benedryl and an epi-pen, and offering to get me medical attention if needed. However, it goes to show that even in a place as food allergy friendly asDisney World, we should always be careful and confirm that the food delivered to us is in fact allergen free.

We went to Be Our Guest on the last night of a 2 week trip, and it was the absolute best food allergy experience I had anywhere on Disney property. I am allergic to dairy, gluten, soy, and tree nuts, and Chef Jerry was beyond accommodating. He started by asking me what I WANTED, rather than what would be easiest to make allergen free. He went on to explain that he himself has a dairy allergy, and the intense amount of food allergy training he continually receives. He knew exactly which items contained allergens off the top of his head (for example, the only product in the entire restaurant that may have come in contact with nuts is the pearls on top of the cupcakes).

Chef Jerry made me gluten free rolls with olive oil, followed by the braised pork with roasted potatoes (the pureed cauliflower contained allergens) and asparagus, and raspberry sorbet for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious, and Jerry checked on me several times throughout the meal.

I would absolutely recommend Be Our Guest to anyone with any kind of food allergy. Thanks Chef Jerry!

It was much more than Charlotte could eat, but she had plenty of choices. We took the leftover doughnuts for a snack later. We love breakfast at Crystal Palace. We typically make a reservation early, so that we can enter the Magic Kingdom before opening, which allows us to get some fantastic photos in front of Cinderella’s Castle without any large crowds in front.

For day three of my recent Disney trip, I convinced jordan luka 3 colorways release dates my companion to try eating at Sanaa at the Animal Kingdom Lodge resort. Given that he doesn’t like Indian food, this one was a challenge for both of us.

First up, I have to give major props to the chef who helped us here. I believe her name was Carroll. She was very sweet and understanding, considering that I was very high maintainance about my food.

One thing that I immediately liked about this restaurant is that they have special menus designed for nut allergy guests, showing what one can eat, while omitting everything else.

Indian food in restaurants scares me, because I know they often use nuts as thickeners, and because some of the ingredients are unfamiliar to me. I went with the safe option – tandoori chicken.

Though I was still armed with a boatload of questions. The chef presented me with a full list of all of the ingredients in the dish, and even checked some bottles to better answer my questions.

One ingredient that I was nervous about was Tanzanian olive oil. I’ve read some stories about olive oil being occasionally diluted with hazelnut nut oil overseas, so I had some worries with that item. The chef was very understanding and ended up making a special version of tandoori chicken for me using the ingredients that I was comfortable with.

The dish was very tasty, and in particular, the rice that came with it was amazing (I want their recipe for basmati rice!)

For dessert, there were three safe options – bamboo rice pudding, margo sorbet, and a fruit kulfi. They were also open to me getting the chai cream as well, though its not on the dessert menu proper (but part of a trio dish).

In the end, I opted to not eat dessert (I was full and didn’t really feel like experimenting any more for one night).

Also of note – my companion was able to get an Indian spice-free meal. He got the steak (minus the chutney it comes with) and potatoes. They
were really great about accommodating his culinary preferences as well.

We had a party of 11 people, ages 4-66, and everyone really loved dinner here! My 4 year old son is allergic to milk, eggs and peanuts. I made our reservation online and indicated we had someone with these food allergies. The host confirmed when we checked in and then the waiter was fully aware when we were seated. The chef came out and walked me through the buffet going over what food would be safe for my son – there were plenty of options, including a pasta bar that my son loved (he had multi-grain rotini pasta w/ marinara sauce). The best part for my son with these allergies was that they had tofutti ice cream and enjoy life cookies they brought out for dessert. My son finally was able to have a special dessert like everyone else. He loved it, and it made my day to see him enjoy a meal at a restaurant as much as he did! Would definitely recommend to anyone!

We did the character breakfast and had a great meal and experience. We had a party of 11 ages 4-66. My 4 year old son is allergic to milk, egg and peanut. The chef came out and explained their food prep and the would make a buckwheat waffle with sides of bacon, sausage and potatoes for him. My son doesn’t like sausage or potatoes so he didn’t eat either but he loved the waffles, bacon, fresh fruit and juice. I taste tested the waffles and they were really good! The character interaction was fun for everyone. I was skeptical because my 4 year old twins weren’t familiar with Lilo and Stitch, but they thought Stitch was funny. They loved meeting Mickey and Pluto. The rest of the family loved the food.
Highly recommend!!

I went to Fairfax Fare with interested hopes, as I had read of someone else having a hot dog, GF hot dog bun, with barbecue pork on top. But when I spoke to the chef, he said I could not have anything but a plain hot dog and GF bun. He had the book out, flipping through it very fast, and mentioned I couldn’t have the barbecue. I think this was in error–the book has the allergens in large letters in little colored blocks, beside each food, and I did NOT see gluten listed as an allergen for barbecue. But the chef was in a large hurry, AND seemed very confident of what he was saying. He also had the attitude of “I’m not giving you anything I don’t think you should have.” So I told him I wouldn’t eat there…and ended up not eating anything, because it was time sit down for Fantasmic.

My husband and I came here for lunch. I indicated my dietary restrictions when making our reservation, and mentioned them to the host when we checked in. We arrived a few minutes early, and were seated right at our reservation time. Our table was right up by the aquarium, which was pretty cool.

Our waitress came out and took our drink order, then told me a chef would come out to speak with me shortly. When the chef came out, I already had an idea of what I wanted, so I asked if the Grilled Mahi Mahi could be done gluten-free. He said it could, and also offered me gluten-free rolls, which I accepted. They came wrapped up in their own little basket, which was marked to keep it from my husband’s non-gluten free rolls. They were warmed, and pretty good.

The mahi mahi was the best entree I had on our trip. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, the fish was flaky and tender, and the sauce was wonderful. Even the garnish on top worked well with the other flavors, rather than just being decorative and superfluous. For dessert, I had the Chocolate Wave, a flourless chocolate cake served with raspberry gelato. It was one of the better flourless chocolate cakes I have eaten. Overall, this was a wonderful dining experience and we will definitely be back.

I was somewhat concerned about Chefs de France, as I had read a review where someone with food allergies had a terrible experience. Fortunately, my fears were unfounded!

My husband and I came here for dinner. I had noted my dietary restrictions when making the reservation, and mentioned them again to the hostess when we checked in. We were seated just a few minutes past our reservation time. Our waitress was very nice. I asked her about seeing a chef, and she told me that nearly everything on the menu except the pasta could be done gluten-free. She said to look through the menu and see what I wanted, and she would go and double-check with the chef.

I ordered the duck breast and leg confit with cherries, sweet potato puree, and patty pan squash. A few minutes later, the chef came out and explained that the sauce the duck usually came with was made with a roux and thus not gluten-free, but that he could substitute another sauce, which I said would be fine. Soon after, my husband was given a demi baguette and I was given a warmed gluten-free roll, which was a little dry but still nice to have. The duck was very good. The sauce was served on the side and was, I think, the sauce that usually goes with the short ribs. It was rich and had pearl onions in it, and went better with the duck and cherries than I would have expected. The sweet potato puree was smooth and velvety, and the patty pan was perfectly cooked and well seasoned.

For dessert, I was offered sorbet, chocolate mousse, or creme brulee. I chose the creme brulee, and it was my favorite dessert of the entire trip. Overall, everything was delicious and I would definitely recommend it.

My husband and I ate here for lunch and liked it so much we came again for lunch two days later. It is very easy to dine here with dietary restrictions. You either order via touchscreen or you place your order with a cast member (we ended up ordering both ways). If you are using a touchscreen, there is a place where you can indicate any allergies, and the menu updates to display what your options are. There were a surprising number of gluten-free options.

If you don’t have a magic band (we did) you are given a rose to place on your table so that the cast members know where to deliver your food. The dining areas of the restaurant are absolutely beautiful. We ate for the first time in the west wing, and the second time in the main ballroom. Both rooms were very detailed in their theming.

The first time we ate here, I ordered the roast beef sandwich. It came on what I’m pretty sure was an Udi’s hot dog bun. The bun was a little dry, but the roast beef was tender and went well with the horseradish sauce and arugula. The french fries were also made in a designated fryer and thus safe to eat.

The second time we ate here, I had the braised pork with green beans and mashed potatoes. It was the best meal I had at any quick-service restaurant, and had the quality of a table-service restaurant. The green beans had a wonderful texture and were well seasoned and cooked with onions and bell peppers, the mashed potatoes were wonderfully creamy and seemed to be made fresh, rather than from mashed potato flakes. The pork was well-seasoned and just melted in your mouth. I will be ordering it every time I eat here in the future.

There is only one gluten-free option for dessert: a lemon-raspberry cream puff. It is very good, with a smooth and tart lemon curd filling, some whipped cream, a fresh raspberry, and a small square of chocolate with “Be our Guest” written on it in gold.

I loved every part of eating here from the ambiance to the food, and we will definitely eat here again.

We had a great experience at Chef de France when we went in November! My daughter has an allergy to gluten and dairy which we noted in our reservation. When we were seated our waiter Leo asked about our allergies, assured us they could work with it and brought the chef to our table. The chef (can’t remember his name) asked my daughter what she liked to eat and when she said chicken, he said that would be easy and took her order for roast chicken, roasted potatoes and steamed broccoli. She was unable to ea he gluten free roll they offer so they gave her sliced cucumbers instead (at her request). It was a wonderful experience and we all enjoyed ourselves!

The buffet at Biergarten gave me plenty of variety and choices. I have celiac disease and cannot have any wheat gluten. The pleasant manager/chef came out and walked me along the buffet and told me what was gluten free and what was not. I was even given a dessert just for me. It was wonderful!

The party is such a blast, with all of the special events and low crowd conditions. We really had a great time two years ago, but there was so much to do that we couldn’t do it all. So, while we probably won’t be stopping for food allergy free treats, it’s so nice to know they are available.

We went for the princess breakfast. It was so good and Chef Jerry was awesome!

After we were seated Chef Jerry came out to talk to my sister-in-law who just found out she had these allergies. He walked her through the buffet and told her what she could and could not have. She figured she would be just eating fruit. Boy was she surprised when he came out with waffles with dairy free butter and he called over to Morocco to get her some turkey sausage! He was great! That was the first time in about a month my sister-in-law was able to actually eat out at a restaurant. She was in heaven!

Chef Jerry was very good and attentive. I would recommend this to anyone with allergies, hands down!

First, thank you so much for your blog, it has been very helpful at navigating around Disney World!

I got very worried as I read that some of the Epcot restaurants were not owned by Disney and therefore the chefs may not be trained the same.

My son, who has a peanut, treenut and egg allergy was very excited about going to Teppan Edo because he loves to cook, he wanted to see the chefs in action.

Normally I would never consider going to a similar restaurant, but in Disney I felt safer.

I decided to call ahead and speak to a manager. He assured me that there are no peanuts/tree nuts on the premises. He mentioned that the noodles have eggs in them, as does their white yum-yum sauce, both are easy to just avoid. They do not make fried rice, so there is no eggs on the grill.

Can’t tell you how thrilled I was that I was able to keep my reservation and let my son be apart of this exciting dining experience.

We are traveling over Thanksgiving, so I’ll be sure to touch base with you again and let you know how our experience was!

My son is allergic to dairy, peanuts and tree nuts, and depending on his mood, Disney princesses. Needless to say, our dinner at Be Our Guest restaurant was more for our two daughters than our son. But in the end, he became a fan of this restaurant.

As usual, the chef came out and discussed our allergies and told us what she could make for our son. He had the grilled steak with brown rice and seasonal vegetables. The chef also gave him a bowl of plain macaroni with marinara sauce on the side. It was so good that he finished everything on his plate and also half of his sister’s (all the kids get the same so there is no arguing).

Be Our Guest delivered on the high standards for food allergies that we now expect with the Disney brand. But it’s the little things that make my son smile. The bread that they serve before dinner is dairy and nut free. But the thing that topped it all was that they had Earth Balance non-dairy butter for him. It may sound trivial, but being able to eat bread with the rest of the family made his day.

“Best restaurant ever!!!”, is what my son said after we had dinner at Hollywood & Vine. The chef came out and walked the buffet line with me. Here are the foods that my son had:

Baked chicken
Seasonal vegetables
Strip loin
Roast Turkey

They also have a pasta bar where we were able to get plain pasta with marinara sauce on the side. They heat the pasta up in hot water right there.

He loved the food but it was the dessert that made his day. The chef put together an ice cream sundae with chocolate toffuti ice cream, Enjoy life chocolate chip cookies, sprinkles, and Hershey’s chocolate sauce. The chef also lined the plate with dairy free caramel popcorn.

I was able to find the dairy free caramel popcorn in Animal Kingdom. I don’t remember the exact location but there is a kiosk that sells foods that are free of the top seven allergens. We were walking from Expedition Everest to Flame Tree BBQ when we discovered it.

We explained how much our daughter loved the Maya Grill and the build-your-own tacos she had there. He basically prepared the same thing for her lunch. My husband and I ate from the “buffet” where, basically, you walk around to each of the “market” booths and select your meal, quick service-like.

The next day, we knew Chef Ricardo was working during breakfast. So, we returned to the Pepper Market and he met us at the table to discuss our daughter’s options. She told Chef Ricardo that she loved the allergen-free Mickey Waffles, eggs and bacon. As a surprise, and big treat, he made Mickey pancakes! It was so exciting for her!

We told him about our Disney cruise and asked if it was possible to get anything “to go” so that we would definitely have safe food for her when we boarded the Disney Dream the next day. When you board the cruise ship, the quick service pool-side restaurants are open, and the pizza and ice-cream are readily available. And, while we could possibly speak to the head chef to prepare something safe, it wasn’t a sure bet. So, Chef Ricardo made us a “to go” version of her favorite build-your-own tacos to take with us when we boarded the cruise ship. It turned out to be the perfect option.

Chef Ricardo showed so much concern and was so happy to help. He gave us his personal contact information for our next visit, any time we need to get our daughter a safe Mexican fix. Of course, not only is he willing to do this for us, he stays in contact with many other families that have visited his restaurant. We love Chef Ricardo!

We started with the salsa, guacamole and chips, though the chips actually came from the Pepper Market, next door. Our fabulous waitress, Michelle, recommended their chips over the Maya Grill’s chips, which were located in a general area and could have been in close proximity to dairy. Next our daughter ordered black beans, rice and flour tortillas, and made her own tacos. The flour tortillas are fresh and tiny — like 2-3 bite tacos!

We now have to eat at the Maya Grill on every trip to Disney World! Really. Not Be Our Guest, not Cinderella’s Royal Table, not the Brown Derby, but the Maya Grill!

Also, we were taken care of by a fabulous waitress, Michelle. She waited on us all three nights we dined there, though once we had to wait for one of her tables, as she is very good and very popular. Unfortunately, she was about to leave to go back to school to become a teacher, like her mother, who, incidentally, met her father at Disney. She’s going to make a great teacher, though we will miss her on our next visit.

And another bonus is a fantastic guitar player named Marcello, who plays a wide range of contemporary and classic 70s and 80s Top 10s, all instrumentally on the guitar. It was a really great time, with excellent Mexican food and wonderful acoustic guitar music. What’s not to love?
